coming in late morning, early afternoon. as we get a look at storm ranger, we are starting out with light showers. you can see a more widespread batch of rain to the west of us. light rain through marin county as you get ready to head out the door. the rain at 8:00 a.m. we will track that for you. mike, you're showing some police activi activity. we'll take you not to the south bay but the north bay. leaving the area, police activity has your right lanes blocked between tennessee and redwood parkway. a short section towards vavaville out of vallejo. a crash overnight. that's all we have on this map. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. happening today, president trump traveling to the southern california border with mexico

after delivering an ultimatum. he is promising to levy tariffs and close down the border spiral. jay gray live this morning along the border in mexico where the president is expected in just a few hours. it could be a big day there today, jay. >> reporter: yeah. it really is, laura. behind us is the border crossing. you can see the 30-foot metal spires here as well as the razor water, part of the president's barrier project. he will get an update. he will sit down, talk with officials about what could happen next. >> if the drugs don't stop, mexico can stop them if they want, we're going to tariff the cars. the cars are very big. if that doesn't work, we will close the border. >> reporter: yeah. in talking about the tariffs, he

says cars will be tariffed 25%. so would goods and products. remember mexico is our third largest trade partner. and along the border, business -- cross-border business equals $2 billion each day. so there's been a lot of pushback to the president not only from business leaders but politicians about closing this border down. that we mantle is why he walked things back a bit. but, again, still threatening mexican authorities if they don't change the situation along the border. >> jay, i understand the president is also making a second stop in california. >> reporter: yeah. he'll hraoleave the border here travel to a fund-raising dinner. tickets range from $15,000 to $150,000 and that just to get a picture with the president will run you about $50,000, laura.

>> all right. those fund-raisers are always big for whatever side of the political party you're on. thank you very much, jay. 5:03. demands to see robert mueller's report meantime are intensifying not only in congress but cities across the nation, including here in the bay area. activists last night held rallies in several cities, including san francisco. nbc news learned some of mueller's investigations believe the evidence president trump stroubgted justi obstructed justice is stronger than william barr suggested. the search is on for the person who stabbed a man to death in a parking lot of a busy discount store. this happened before sunset on the capital expressway and berryessa road. kris sanchez is live with us. kris, do we know what happened here? >> reporter: we know that person was stabbed here in the parking lot of this busy dollar tree store.

we know that that person died. we don't know who stabbed him. and we don't know why. but this was the scene just after -- right around 7:00 when that stabbing was reported. san jose police tell us the man was stand at least one time and was rushed to a hospital. but at that point it was too late to save him. his identity will not be released until the coroner properly notifies his family. as for the suspect, police are not giving us a description if they have one yet. but a woman who works apt a different store in the shopping center reported seeing several people chasing that victim before he was attacked. now, overall the crime incomes dropped by 4.5% or so in the first two months of last year compared to the year before. but violent crime went up 2.6% in the same period. police report a 5.5% decrease in overall property crime in january and february of this compared to the same time last

year. the man who died here is the 11th homicide victim of the year here in san jose. if you have any information, you can report it to police. homicide investigators would like to hear from you. if you want to report any information anonymously about this crime or any other crime, you can go through crime stoppers. kris sanchez, "today in the bay". useful numbers there, kris. hopeful live they find who is behind this. >> a man accused of a brutal stabbing of a woman will enter a plea today. first, a judge will have to decide whether he is competent to stand trial. he faces murder and attempted murder at the macarthur bart station. she died in the attack and her sister was seriously injured. 6. it is 5:06. target workers will enough get $13. it is set to take effect in june for all new and current

employees. the federal minimum wage is $7.25. sacramento is making a push to bring major league soccer to the city. officials are proposing a $33 million damage of fee waivers, tax rebates, advertising rights and infrastructure financing. they hope to boost a soccer investment for downtown stadium. it is expected to be presented to sacramento city council. the mls board will discuss adding a 28-team to the league. giants fans are pumped for today's home opener. this season giants home games, fans will commemorate an unforgettable moment in giants' history. >> paoelt surete suratos joins . good morning, pete. >> reporter: good morning, guys. we are in the vault.

they do something different every single year. this year they are commemorating the earthquake game, the world series game in 1989, game three. all kaoeuplinds of neat artifac. these are two seats from candle stick park where the game took place. the bat used biy matt williams. the first bat he used after the earthquake. this took place 30 years ago. i remember being in richmond when the earthquake took place. the tickets here for people to really take in the experience during ball games in season. a chance to do it two hours before game time and up until the fifth inning. we got a chance to talk to the director of archives who helped to put together this exhibit. she told me what the main goal is what they want fans to get when they show up during the season. >> hopeful live what our goals

if you're getting ready to head to the sierra, squaw valley will get another round of snow today. at the base we have 234 inches. the earlier you can get on the road the better. our high temperature 34 degrees. it ends tomorrow. we're looking dry on sunday. the rain moving through the bay area. that's coming up in less than five minutes. right now the san mateo bridge looks crowded but really it's not. it's moving at speed. westbound with the tail lights. we'll show you what else is moving at speed. and i have a spot that's not. and good morning. very happy jobs friday to you. we get the numbers from the labor department. about 15 minutes from now. last months were awful. 20,000 jobs added to the american economy in the month of february. that's not enough to cover the 18-year-olds coming into the workforce every month. the south bay roku saw shares

fall. amazon would pour millions more into its video services. tesla fell huge after it fell short in the number of cars delivered. it cost elon musk a billion dollars. imagine losing a billion on paper in a single day. musk was in court. in his dispute with the securities and exchange commission. the sec accuses musk of telling untruths about the company on twitter, and they dragged him to court. the judge in the case told both sides, musk and the sec, to put on their reasonable -- let me try that again. reasonableness pants. first time i really have ever said that. gave them two weeks to work out a settlement. the september had already made a settlement with musk over inaccurate tweets. the sec said they violated the first settlement. roku, the company is offering hbo without the need for cable

it is still drizzling in san francisco. this is what vianey was talking about. the pluck of the rain still off the coast. that will be moving in the rest of the day. as this storm system moves in, it will be a quick quarter inch of rain for parts of the north bay. the rain getting started at 7:00, 8:00. into the city at 9:00 to 10:00. the rest of the bay area seeing rain by early afternoon. by the evening commute, we are starting to see things clearing out and the sun peeking out. another quick burst of rain moving in for your saturday morning. we are once again looking at very light rainfall totals as we go throughout the day. as this rain moves out, we will warm up. early next week is looking good. the highs and low 70s on sunday for the inland valleys. mike, you're still tracking one slow spot. >> one unexpected slow spot.

house lawmakers are passing an updated version of the violence against woman act. (157 republicans, and one >> on capitol hill, house makers passing the violence against women act. the act was originally enacted in 1994. funding lapsed at the end of last year. it criminalizes physical abuse against women at the federal level, while providing funding for victims services. it includes protection for transgender. more than a dozen cases of measles have been reported in california this year. at least two cases here in the bay area. so we're also learning at uc davis children's hospital, they are sending out a letter to 200 people warning them they may have been exposed during a visit to the emergency room last month. doctors say a child from

we are the bobcat belles. we are a drill team from hallsville, texas. i'm the marketing director at the chick-fil-a in longview, texas. every year we do a novelty routine last year we were inflatable cows. some lady posted it online - got so many views. that made the video, the cow suits. the morning we were leaving for our nationals competition we surprised them and sent them off with a chick-fil-a cow. we were star-struck. we just wanted to let them know we love them.

ranger, most of the rain still off the coast. mike, you are seeing changes on interstate 80. >> not as dramatic as we usually see. we have a pause to pay, but no metering lights. chp lets me know. that is registering this crash in the north bay. eastbound 80. one lane blocked for activity from tennessee up towards red waoltd pa redwood parkway. into the area is fine from the c car carquinas to the south bay. more than 100 people are out of their homes after a wall of flames and smoke severely damaged a santa rosa apartment complex. >> bob redell joins us. bob, we are hearing some of

those people managed to escape. >> reporter: laura and marcus, reports of one woman on her balcony who jumped from her railing down to the arms of firefighters. fellow residents were down here below. some used fire department ladders to get down. you can see the remains here. others scrambled to the top of their carports. it is remarkable no one got hurt or killed. this is just off 101 in santa rosa. the fire department responded in less than four minutes. when they arrived, there were two apartment unitsen tkphru en. ladders assisted in the evacuations. they had the fire contained in 40 minutes. the second floor sustained major

damage. minor smoke damage to the first floor. this unit did not have sprinklers because it was built in 1965 before the requirement. there were alarms that alerted residents to what was going on and obviously helped them get out of this situation. it displaced 140 people, some of whom lived in a second building here on the property. it was not damaged by the fire. red cross helped 20 of those people find temporary shelter. live in santa rosa, bob redell, "today in the bay". >> is sounds dramatic. in calistoga, an overnight fire maintenance facility at napa cal fire headquarters. one of the appartatuses went up in flames. it is a maintenance facility. we're told there were a few fire trucks and other equipment inside that is likely a total loss. this is very bad news for

emergency crews who fend on that equipment to get a handle on wildfires. authorities in the north bay investigating what turned into a deadly outing. their car plunged down a hill in marin. this is the second time in two weeks someone has been killed driving in mt. tam state park. it plummeted off ridge crest boulevard yesterday. the unidentified father was pronounced dead. his 13-year-old son is in critical condition. about 11 days ago on the same street, a similar accident happened sadly killing the drive. in a few hours, an assistant admissions deputy is due in court. he is charged with attempted murder and domestic violence in what investigators are calling a drug-fueled attack. it's a story we first told you about last month. he allegedly stabbed a woman repeatedly while experimenting with lsd. he and the victim were at a home

in san francisco's potrero hill. right now the city of chicago is drawing up a civil complaint against santa rosa native jussie smollett after the actor missed yesterday's deadline to reimburse the city's police department for costs of investigating the hate crime he was said to be a victim of. the city ordered smollett to pay $130,000. since the deadline passed, the city is now threatening to sue smollett. last week prosecutors dropped all charges against the actor weeks after he was indicted for making a false report that he was attacked by two men. new this morning, a first hurdle cleared to mark election day a statewide holiday. that bill passed this week by committee vote. now it heads to the assembly's appropriation committee. if passed, it would establish a state holiday on the first tuesday of november. supporters believe it would enable more people to get to the

also, this is three and a half times bigger than the one they had in the previous season. if you notice, it is pretty big there. also, it's 4k quality. that is very high quality is what i'm being told. we did get a chance to talk to the chief operating officer about the quality of this, how much different it will be this season for fans. here's what he had to say. >> it is just like at home. when you go from hd to 4k you notice it with the content. it is high regs illusion and three and a half times as big. if you would a tv that was 20 inches, now you are going to a 75-inch tv. so it is that much bigger. >> have if i had a tv like that at home, i would be in very good shape. this will be at the ballpark, the new scoreboard at oracle park. they will have all kinds of cool video, content, as well as analytics for all of you baseball fans that keep track of stats. more surprises through the season. we will see what they have in

so important, kira. so important indeed. good morning to you. a new lawsuit is taking aim at the trump administration which recently changed the standards for school launches. california is one of six states, plus the district of columbia sawi suing the department of agriculture. it is asking the court to overturn changes in standards regarding sodium and whole grains. recently the trump administration scaled back school lunch standards implemented under president obama's administration. that includes one requiring that less sodium and only whole grains be served. usda school lunch program provides low-cost or free lunches in public schools. last year it served an estimated 30 million children. as new york's attorney general points out for many kids, their school lunch is the most nutritional meal of the day. in a statement california attorney general writes, a

them grab him by the genitals. he faces sexual misconduct accusations from 19 women, including from his first wife. the point here being inappropriate touching would be a tough issue for trump to run for re-election if he faced biden. health care is another issue where polls show republicans would probably lose but over and over this week the president insisted on talking about health care. on monday, doubling down on an attack against obamacare in the courts. he said he had a replacement plan. then he said he would sign republicans to make a plan on it and vote before the 2020 election. by the wind of this week, the vote would come after next year's election. one of mr. trump supporters says they are trying to lose the election. >> too much nastiness. it wouldn't be a crazy
