decade in the making ever since scientists determined during a major earthquake there is a better than a one in four chance that the dam here would fail. and that would basically make that 2017 flooding that we were just talking about look like a puddle comparatively. the danger is very real here because the dam sits on two large fault lines. the dam and the lake. and studies show wide areas of the land around the dam could liquefy. the flooding two years ago was some of the worst on coyote creek and in the san jose area in decades. but if the dam fails, flooding would be catastrophic, threatening to sweep away people and their homes. scientists just began evaluating this site in spring to finally start construction design work. people have criticized the water district for not starting construction sooner. the design work is expected to be completed by the end of the year. but actual construction still

san jose. the city deciding to devote 45% of affordable housing. according to the mercury news, that money heading towards people at the highest risk of becoming homeless. the income required to qualify for the assistance varies. in san francisco, a housing development is being blocked. city supervisors voted against the 60-unit project to protect the nearby park. it would have been located near folsom street. it would have shadowed the northeastern section of the park for eight months of the year. san bruno police are showing off an unusual haul. more than $1,000 worth of what they say are stolen victoria's secret items. officers responded to a call about a man in a parked car on el camino real. the man had a warrant and

the company has been pioneering new technology. just make sure my cart will get through. jetblue may be gearing up to announce transatlantic service at jfk. they could add flights to london from new york and boston hubs. if you have kids, you've probably experienced something like this before. a 3-year-old boy tried to unlock his family's ipad this weekend but ended up disabling it for nearly 50 years. the kid's dad took to twitter asking for help sharing this device message which announced it would be liked for 25 million minutes. other users suggested just waiting it out until 2067 when the toddler would be in his 50s. don't worry much we have learned the dad managed to restore the device after following tips he gained from other users on twitter.

"today in the bay" pete suratos joining us live from one of the uc ucsf campuses and details on why they are striking. pete? >> reporter: yeah. good morning to you, marcus. in fact, they are starting to do a sound check behind me for the ucsf one-day strike here at the p parnassas campus. this revolves around workplace retaliation. i want to talk about the charges

that the union has filed against the uc system. now, the union representing the workers filed unfair labor practice charge alleging illegal conduct by the university. the charge specifically cites unlawful interference by the uc system ranging from workplace retaliation, threats of police citation for picketing. in general, workers are concerned over the outsourcing of jobs and income inequality, something they feel is being silenced by the uc. i want to read a portion of the statement they sent us regarding today's strike. we can pull that up. uc believes that the union, afscme labor practice charge is nothing more than a blatant attempt to justify another strike. for the fourth time in under a year, union leaders will try and again failed to extract bargaining concessions from the university through economic pressure at the continued ex pens of patients, students and communities statewide.

arrested an undocumented immigrant for killing a woman inside her own home. the county board of supervisors voted to consolidate two proposals into one. both proposals would allow the county to contact i.c.e. when an undocumented immigrant convicted of a violent felony is about to be set free. it is being recommended to staff for a final decision. now to a follow-up. city supervisors are standing e behind the needle exchange program. a seven-year contract extension with the aids foundation. it costs $26 million. just last week, the department of health officials acknowledged a needle litter increase. for the first time since a cracked steel beam was found at the salesforce transit city, workers will be getting a paycheck. pelle will be paid $5 million by
