"today in the bay" continues right now. a very good now wednesday morning to you. thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. mike will have a look at the commute in just a bit. but first we want to start out with the weather. i'm excited. it's going to be a nice day. >> it will feel like spring across the bay area. we will start out cool and a lot of sunshine. we do really have really nice weather headed our way. upper 60s as we go into late morning in palo alto, eventually reaching the low 70s. upper 70s in a few spots like concord and antioch today. 76 in napa. we will talk about even warmer air in the forecast for tomorrow. that's coming up in a few minutes. mike, you have an update on the crash in san francisco. >> that's right, kari. first the location. chp. it may be the same crash. the vehicle is over here. westbound 80 off ninth. the crash cleared the reports. it may be back again.

there is not anybody responding with the vehicle itself. no major problems. it is there. of course the bay bridge toll plaza with the metering lights slowing you down from the east bay. not a lot slowing you down around most of the bay. it is a smooth drive. san neyeo bridge, an earlier sweeper truck. they might be moving more pieces of equipment. back to you. thanks so much, mike. 6:01. just 21 hours away from when the mueller report is set to be released. tracie potts joins us live in washington where reports indicate a lot of growing angst about what this report may actually reveal. good morning, tracie. >> reporter: good morning, laura. because people who worked and still work in the white house had to go talk to the mueller team. now they're wondering if what they said to mueller's lawyers behind closed doors will be revealed in this report. and if their identities will be protected.

there's growing fear at the white house. >> i mean one person described it to us as breakdown level anxiety. >> reporter: more than a dozen current and former white house staffers say they are worried it will read like a tell-all novel. >> we never did anything wrong. >> reporter: exposing testimony from white house insiders on what the president said and did behind white house doors. >> even if he doesn't call out names it won't take sherlock holmes to figure out if there is a one-on-one exchange with the president who it was that cooperated with bob mueller. >> reporter: and testimony from confidantes like don mcgahn. >> don mcgahn was inter viewed for hours and hours. >> special counsel robert mueller found no collusion with russia. the attorney general decided not to prosecute the president on obstruction of justice. >> if he can't indict, maybe he will try to embarrass and

harass. but that will never equal collusion. >> reporter: the witness's attorneys have been asking the justice department if they will be identified. the department won't say. as of this morning, we are also learning about the president's legal team and their response. they have met every day this week. they prepare to own the counter report. they may release it. they may not. or they may release parts of it depending on what comes out. >> we will have a lot of reading to do with all of these reports coming out. very interesting. thanks so much. 6:03. a man faces charges for allegedly threatening a school shooting in san francisco. according to the "examiner" the man made the threat monday night on campus. he is described as a, quote, outsi outsider.

6:303. the district believed it would get funding from a tax measure. last fall voters had a new parcel test. it is being challenged because they received a little less than two-thirds support. yesterday council members approved or agreed to allocate more than $1 million to save services at risk of being cut. they will not start collecting the parcel tax until the appeal is sorted out in the courts. after months of meetings at the marin county school district finally deciding to change names. but there's still plenty of work ahead. pete suratos live with what's next. pete? >> reporter: yeah. good morning to you, marcus. yeah, plenty of work ahead as in trying to figure out what the new name will be for the dixie school board. the new name still to be determined. a long meeting took place

yesterday. we'll show you footage of that meeting. after months of debate, there were several hours of public comment regarding this name change in san rafael. the board ultimately voted to change the dixie name on a 3-1 vote by the school board. the controversy dates all the way back to the late 1990s, guys. some residents called the name racist. the name synonymous with the confederacy. folks who wanted to keep the name say it was named after an indian woman named dixie who knew the man who donated the land back in the 1800s. the committee will be formed to determine the next name. the cost to change the name, how about this, around $40,000. that's the ballpark number that the school board came up with last night. one woman speaking at last night's meeting about the importance of changing the name. >> you have the choice tonight to be the ones who goes down in

history books as doing the right thing or wait another few years. and this is going to come back again and another school board will vote to change the name. >> reporter: now, no district funds will be used for this name change. as i mentioned, it could cost roughly $40,000 to do so. the name will officially be changed august 22nd. live here in san rafael, pete suratos for "today in the bay". >> we will be watching for that. pete, thank you. 6:06. bowing to pressure. san francisco health leaders signing off on a new billing protection for patients at zuckerberg "general hospital". the new plan approved by the health department means patients will no longer have to cover the gap between what is covered by insurers. and how much they have to pay out of pocket based on income. just in, nancy pelosi is

agreesing "time" magazine. one of six honorees included on the covers for the thyme's 100 most influential people of 2019. others include mow ham second sala, taylor swift, gayle king, sandra oh and dwayne johnson. blasey ford is not on the cover but did make the list. senator harris writing an article about ford in thyme magazine. it says in part, quote, through her courage she forced the country to reckon with an issue that has too often been ignored and kept in the dark. 6:07. new details this morning on plans to shuttle thousands of warriors fans to the chase center. according to the chronicle, san francisco officials hope to open a temporary ferry terminal at mission rock. if approved, the goal is to have it ready by the team's first

chips. apple was scrambling to get chips. 5g is coming. your current phone won't receive a signal. the guy who builds your i phones is terry gau. he said he wants to be president of taiwan and will run in that country's next election. looking less and less likely, herman cain will join the federal reserve. he hasn't gotten the votes he needs in the senate. yesterday the white house pretty much hinted he should take his name out of consideration. we expect san francisco's pinterest to price and sell shares for the first time tonight in its initial public offering, then start selling those shares to regular people tomorrow. there's been a lot of talk about ipo millionaires in the bay area. but they to the floor to be from household names.

start but not so much this afternoon. upper 40s to the low 70s by 1:00 today. with we continue to climb up a few more degrees from there. livermore, san jose reaching 74 degrees. up to 75 in santa rosa. it's fairly quiet out there in the pacific. an area of low pressure. the last frame of the satellite cuts it off. but we will see that staying to the north of us. so quiet weather continues here over the next few days. it will change our wind direction and will bring in much more of an ocean breeze into the weekend. today inland, up to 75 degrees. 83 on thursday. and then look at our our temperatures cool down just a bit. even though we keep the clear skies, we will see changes in our temperatures bringing it back to closer to normal this time of year. easter weekend looks beautiful. highs in the low sifts inland. and san francisco with low 60s. mike, you have been tracking the crash in san francisco.

>> we have a smoother drive, except for near the crash. a lighter flow of traffic. metering lights on the oakland side of the toll plaza. zooming in, coming up the peninsula, 101 past the 280 interchange. hit the brakes. however you know that area. that's where there is a crash blocking one lane right now. this is the second or third incident reported in this area. but the one coming off the bay bridge has cleared. slowing you down northbound, 101. if you have an option, maybe you are off between 101, 280. take the extension over to oracle park. i almost said at&t. it will be clear right now. the rest of the flow of traffic are moving very smoothly as well. you see a little slowing south 880, west 92. you expect that. slowing eastbound across the san mateo, clear the sensors. it looks like there may have been another traffic break.

a police manhunt is underway - for a woman believed to be armed .. who authorities say threatened numerous denver area schools. authorities say the 18 year old woman traveled from her home in florida to colorado on monday. she )s made threats they call credible - but not specific. leaders at many schools locked out yesterday .. decided instead to cancel their classes today the threats cover some 20 schools .. including colombine high school. in classes canceled in the denver metro area, including columbine high school. the suspect is fixated on the columbine shooting, which reaches its 20th anniversary saturday. well, day two of jury selection in the high-profile "ghost ship" fire trial. attorneys are working to pick 12

jurors and 6 alternates. derrick almena and max harris face 36 counts for involuntary manslaughter. opening statements are scheduled for next month. no concrete timetable on when grounded boeing 737 max jets will return to the skies. boeing is now getting at least a preliminary green light from federal aviation leaders. the faa panel has released an initial review of the software. updates to pogue's mcas automated flight system. the update is called operationally suitable. but the report also recommends additional training for pilots. again, the grounding has ended. but the max 8 flights would be canceled through at least mid-august. 6:23 for you right now. nbc bay area responds to a palo alto couple's long haul with with a canceled flight.

>> consumer investigator chris chmura is here with how they got the gears churning towards a refund. >> kerry falla and his wife were ticketed to go from los angeles to india. >> i called customer service. and after an hour and a half, they were able to book me out of los angeles. >> okay. los angeles. so that means flying from l.a. all the way to london. great. but what about getting to l.a.? that bit right there? kerry said the phone agent told him to buy one-way tickets on another airline and later file for reimbursement. but that's what he did. british airways denied his $374 claim. so kerry contacted us. we reached out and it paid in full within two days. we did not get an explanation for why that hop from sfo to lax wasn't just added into kerry's reservation. contact us just like kerry did

the weekend forecast in seven minutes. there is a crash in san francisco? >> yeah. kari, we are working with caltrans to show you this crash. northbound 101, the split over towards eastbound 80. there's a tow truck, fire crew, ambulance. no injuries reported. this is causing a big delay from 280 to the scene. we had a smooth drive into the city up until that point where you hit northbound 101 near vermont street. that is a distraction for folks off the skyway. a smooth drive. the bay bridge metering lights are on. back to you. thanks, mike. a deal between stanford and palo alto school district is following apart. kris sanchez is live with what's next. so, kris, what's going to happen now? >> reporter: well, this is what we're trying to figure out, marcus. this deal, though, the whole

proposed development here at stanford, 4,000 acres seems to be on hold indefinitely. you might recall this. this is really a massive deal. 4,000 acres in all. 2 million square feet of academic space. 2,600 beds for students. 550 housing units for faculty and staff. and $138 million for palo alto unified school district. it is that part of the deal that seems to have fallen apart and derailed the whole thing because the supervisor put it it wasn't a good-faith negotiating effort. the county wanted to be the primary negotiator. in theory, all the concerns could be addressed. open space protection and such. that's the back tore. the story today is the county is shutting down all negotiations because stanford went around the county and to the school

district directly. they said we are surprised by such a decision because the supervisor and the county had actively encouraged us to engage with palo alto unified as part of the negotiations and we believe this is discussion is not in violation of the grouped rules for the development agreement process. this has been going on more than a year at this point. it will continue beyond that. we have reached out to the office and stanford and palo alto unified school district. we haven't heard back just yet. when we do, i will post it online. the back story is in my twitter feed. kris sanchez, "today in the bay". thanks so much, kris. 6:32 right now. turning to notre dame cathedral in paris where the focus is now squarely on rebuilding. france this morning announcing an international contest in fact, to design a new spire. even as some fear rebuilding

could take decades, church leaders estimating a six-year closure. donations started pouring in even before the last flames were out. nearly $1 billion has already been raised. the spire and roof both collapsed. many relics and trrbeasures hav been saved. craig melvin said engineers are trying to assess the risk of collapse. >> right now they are trying to identify if there is a risk of stones falling or part of the walls falling. they want to be sure that they test everything in the structure of the building. >> investigators are still in the preliminary stages of determining the cause of the fire. so far it is being tied toen vacation wo renovation works crews were doing. sean spicer speaks tonight at berkeley. more of that coming up in a live report. bob redell is there now. we will have that coming up

later in the show. a follow-up for you now. san jose's plan to change its schedule for electing a new mayor hasn't received the minute numb number of votes needed. they were changing it to years a president was electriced instead of the governor's elected years. supporters argued the move would increase voter turnout. but yesterday the measure failed. they fear it might allow national politics to overshadow the mayor's race. grab your calendar and make your eye black. the nfl is set to release its full 2019 football schedule today. the league will release 256 game skeplgs. and at 5:00 our time today, well, we already know it take place thursday, september 5th when chicago hosts green bay. football usually means traffic in santa clara, oakland. but nothing like that right now.

easter sunday, more of the same. mostly sunny. looking at comfortable air across the bay area. going out of town, coachella, it's going to be very hot there this weekend. looking at triple digit temperatures especially for the middle of the day. be prepared for that extreme heat. and extreme cool temperatures during the early hours. keeping it here at home, a lot of cleanups and creek cleanup events as well as trying to clean up some of our waterways and parks. it's going to be nice. make sure you're there early before the temperatures warm up. it will also be sunny. bring your water bottles, sunscreen and comfortable shoes. sunday, the big cherry blossom festival sunday in japantown. nice and clear. staying comfortable and cool throughout the day. pause it is earth day and we're celebrating john muir.

holiday season with its strongest lineup of products and services ever. thousands of people lost money because that was not true. apple has not responded. if you live in the north bay, your commute could be a little cheaper. smart is considering fare reduction plans after several passengers complained about costs. right now is $3.50 to right smart one way and $11.50 for the full length. you can buy unlimited passes for $200 a month. some of the riders we actually spoke with say they would like to see a change happen, while others don't mind the current prices. >> i think the fares are good. i pay $200 a month for 31 days of travel. i think that's a fair rate. >> i think it's a little high, but beats sitting in traffic. >> smart is considering a pilot program that would provide a discount for low income passengers. another proposal would allow

kids to ride free with the purchase of an adult ticket. smart board will discuss the proposal at its afternoon meeting. traffic is flowing again on highway 37 in novato following a deadly wrong-way crash near the 101 interchange. it happened 9:30 last night and closed both transition ramps from 101. chp said the woman died when her car struck another car head-on. we are learning she was the one heading the wrong way. she swerved to avoid two responding chp officers before she plowed into another yon coming car. the driver in the other car suffered only minor injuries. . documents show prosecutors in chicago were concerned that jussie smollett was being overcharged. this comes ahead of all charges being dropped. nbc news obtained hundreds of internal texts and males related to the smollett investigation showing state attorney kim foxx believed that smollett was

overcharged, especially compared to the case of r&b singer r. kelly. back in january, smollett, a santa rosa native, told chicago police he was a victim of a hate crime. police later determined that smollett was not a i victim and believed, instead, had staged the attack. well, there are roughly 24 hours until the release of the mueller report. scott mcdrew, a day from now america will be busy reading. >> we know the full report is hundreds of pages. it still will be with redactions. nobody knows what to expect. now, a summary from bill bar said mueller found to evidence that the president knowingly conspired with the russians but mueller did not rule whether the president obstructed justice. mueller specifically saying the report did not exonerate the president nor don dem him. president trump has issued his second veto of his presidency, reversing a resolution passed by
