it ourselves if we want to go through the 400 pages. i know you have, tracie. 6:04. a suspect is now in custody following a standoff with police in the north bay. and we're learning this morning that he is the same suspect responsible for shutting down the bay area bridge just two weeks ago. pete suratos joining us live from the benecia martinez bridge. pete? >> reporter: yeah. good morning to you, marcus. the suspect was out on bail following an incident less than two weeks ago. and then overnight he is involved in this police standoff. i want to show you video from overnight. the man we are talking about is 54-year-old rodney brickerhoff. he was arrested near the 300 block of east 8th street in benecia. he called 3:00 p.m. claiming he had a firearm, threatening a relative that lived with him. they were able to negotiate on the phone and got him to peacefully surrender just past

11:00 p.m. police located multiple loaded and unloaded firearms. this happened two weeks after a previous incident on the benecia martinez bridge with this suspect april 5th. chp had to close down the bridge for hours due to a bomb and suicide threat involving the suspect. no bombs were located by officials. there were no injuries in both incidents. as for the confiscated firearms, no word if they were registered to the suspect. thank you, pete. 6:06. an alert if your morning commute takes you through contra costa county. brentwood are cracking down on distracted drivers. they will look for drivers working their phones from behind the wheel. this is one of several agencies doing the same thing statewide.

if you are caught as a first-time offender you face a $162 fine. >> a live look at sfo. long-term parking there is about to get a whole lot cheaper. yes, you heard me. something in the bay area getting cheaper. >> how is that possible? >> it is. the costs are going down from the current $25 per day to $18 per day effective may 1st. this week the airport announcing new rates to coincide with the opening of its new six-story parking garage that will more than double long-term capacity to nearly 7,000 spaces. and with this weekend's big holiday passover, good friday and easter, a lot of folks may be traveling. and researchers at baylor are reminding you to be very careful on your trip, specifically at airports and hotels. this is because one study found that airport security bins can carry more germs than a toilet if you buy food at one of those airport grab and go stands, check the labels to make sure

the food isn't expired. when you get to your seat, wipe it down. those tray tables as well before you start eating on them on the plane. at hotels, use those anti wipes on the controls, phones, and light switches. it is also a good idea to wash out the glasses left in the bathroom. in the gym, clean off the weights and machines before and after you use them. all good advice there. >> i'm glad you told me after i went on vacation. yuck. the port of san francisco released this new video of what a potentially catastrophic earthquake might look like. it is a simulation of a magnitude 8 quake and also a warning that first responders might not be able to get to you if the embarcadero seawall fails. the simulation is based on engineering studies.

we've got an onshore flow that is bringing the cloud cover. we have a building marine layer. you can see it is starting to hug the coastline in through san francisco and half moon bay as well. we're also going to notice cooler daytime highs today. i think we will enjoy it. temperatures will still be comfortable, above seasonable. but not as warms as the last few days we have seen. concord, though, still in the 80-degree mark. so is antioch. morgan hill, 79. in through napa, 78. and heading into the city in san francisco, 64 degrees. so let's talk about your pollen report. if you are like me and you suffer from allergies, keep in mind that today grass is very high. trees are moderate. weeds and mold, not so much. take the allergy medication with you because it will be such a sunny weekend that we will definitely see a lot of people outside. as we head into tomorrow, we have a quick-moving system that

will kick up our winds and keep our daytime highs cooler. the majority of the showers will be staying off to the north and east of us. heading out to lake tahoe, get some showers. yosemite area as well. coastal mountains, including santa cruz area, might see drizzle. models are still popping up drizzle in through tomorrow afternoon. it clears out rather quickly. by easter sunday, skies mostly clear. temperatures will begin to warm back up. not in the upper 60s but low 70s. so that building high pressure will kind of stick around into monday and tuesday. and notice by tuesday, our temperatures begin to warm up into the mid-80s. by wednesday, we could see spots in the 80s. maybe even low 90s for the interior areas. we'll cooldown and warm right back up. mike, how is everything on the roads? >> first of all, i don't like the low 90s. not so excited. the green is what i'm excited

about. this light friday commute continues to contra costa county. rio vista moving smoothly. also out of the north bay. it will back up early this afternoon. probably about 1:00. heading to sacramento, the sierra. there is a lot of snow still here. eastbound 580, over toward tracy. keep that in mind. the only areas that pronounced red and orange, the richmond-san rafael bridge and the bay bridge. this is the volume that has built. notice the cash lane here. it is not open for business. it shows the backup as you approach. normally this would be fine for this time of morning. but really it's the only backup. slowing on the berkeley curve. at the toll plaza, look how clear that is. a low cloud cover that vianey is talking about. not presenting a problem for our commute. fog at the golden gate bridge.

bob, the police saying it was one of their officers who was ambushed first. >> reporter: right. and the fremont police officer is making a point to say this was an am about issue that took place 10:50 last night. they happened to be driving past washington hospital. you can see all the squad cars are parked out front. as this officer passed by washington hospital, a man who was by a bus stop across the street -- >> all right. it looks like we're having some issue with bob's mic. we want to go to a sound bite. we heard from one of the officers who was explaining what happened. let's listen. >> the suspect crawled towards the firearm, actually grabbed onto the firearm, pointed it at our officers. and both of our officers fired at the suspect. >> and as you heard there, the

officer-involved shooting outside of washington hospital. of course this investigation is yon going. they're not releasing the identity of the suspect. police will continue to update the media within a few days. 6:32. coast guard crews are assessing whether or not they can go back to the waters off half moon bay to look for a teenager who was swept out to sea. at this point, they are already calling this a recovery effort, no the a rescue. the 18-year-old hayward high school student disappeared yesterday afternoon while he was out boogie boarding with friends. the grandson tried to help but was quickly overwhelmed. as soon as it hit, you have maybe a second or two to breathe, and it would come rolling in again. there just wasn't time to really get a breath. >> friends onshore called 911. crews launched two boats and two helicopters with infrared cameras to pick up the heat off the 18-year-old's body. but the helicopters had to be

turned away. if you're looking at your screen, you know the reason why. the weather was just not cooperating. it was too foggy. authorities so far are not identifying the 18-year-old. one man is behind bars accused of beating a man to death at an east bay park. it unfolded sunday at anuda park in bay point. the suspect and the victim knew one another and got into a fight. when police officers arrived, he was near death. later they found the suspect, 27-year-old joshua johnson. so far he has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon. san francisco leaders are reportedly being advised to reject a bolted plan that would restore fort scott in the presidio. developers want to transform 22 buildings into a campus devoted to social and environmental change. the presidio says it does not meet certain obligations. the trust manages most of the

1,500 acre park. >> such beautiful buildings. a project to bring 135 new affordable housing units to downtown san jose. crews will break ground on north san pedro studios, to basset and tremaine, not far from guadalupe river park. we are told you will have to make between $25,000 and $40,000 in order to qualify. and why we did digging overnight, we could not find out how much the units are going to be listed for at this point. but we do know wait list will open in the fall of next year. if you're getting ready for what is hopeful live a light friday morning commute for you, you probably already know this. bay area bumper to bumper traffic is all too common. but new this morning, many of you are willing to open your wallets to fix the problem.

according to a new numbers published in the mercury news, 73% of voters would backs a one-cent sales tax to upgrade roads. when it comes to high cost of housing, only 43% would support a new plan to build more homes through zoning and capping what renters pay. a lot going on for that. heads-up if you're planning to take 60 this weekend. it will close in both directions sheridan road and sunol. it will happen sunday morning from 12:30 to 8:30 in the morning this is so crews can demolish the sheridan avenue overpass to meet new seismic and height standards. caltrans also says it will help with adding express plains to the busy corridor. >> we all know the bay area is a very busy place. so this will make it more convenient but also safer for everyone. >> all right. we checked with mike inouye. he said your best bet is take 880 instead of 680. >> that is certainly the easiest route as an option. it will affect you, though. if you have an easter service

i can't talk. this is 580. it's moving nicely. it's great. it's friday. the opposite commute coming up. a new twist in a police standoff that ended late last night in benecia. police say it is the same man responsible for shutting down a bay area bridge two weeks ago. police arrested 54-year-old rodney brinkerhoff. he called 911 claiming to have a gun and threatening to harm a relative. he surrendered peacefully. the suspect was out on bail from another incident on the benecia bridge. april 5th the police shut down the bridge for hours due to a bomb and suicide threat. no explosives were ever found. new trouble for people in paradi paradise. many have not even started to rebuild their lives after last fall's firestorm. they are fiending toxics

contamination in their tap water. the carrin general benzene is present because of plastic water pipes and gases triggered by a massive draw of water. in paradise, it could take two years and hundreds of millions of dollars. as you might remember, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. but the fbi is testing pg&e equipment near the point of origin very soon. >> investigators are trying to determine what caused a fiery small plane crash that killed the pilot. no one else was on board. it went down last night at fullerton airport. the twin engine craft caught fire during takeoff. the pilot has not been identified. 6:44. happening today, pg&e protesters will gather in san francisco demanding to take over the now bankrupt utility. organizers are concerned the recent bankruptcy may heighten future wildfire dangers.

they are upset about what they believe is inadequate compensation to wildfire victims and placing the burden on taxpayers. this afternoon they plan to gather at embarcadero plaza and march to pg&e headquarters. 6:45. and the president said he's exonerated but the mueller report specifically says he is not. >> all kinds of politicians finding all kinds of ways to interpret the report. >> it is really astonishing, marcus. not just difference of opinion but differences of fact. or as the white house once called it, alternative facts. it should have been redacted. it condemns the president. we need more hearings. it exonerates the president. what you need to do is read the report itself. instead of relying on other people, you'll know what actually happened. or put another way, why rely on sarah sanders and what she says

about the mueller report if in the mueller report she knits to lying to the american public. bill barr was careful not to quote the whole thing. here's what he said back when he was the only one with access to the report. the investigation did not establish that members of the trump campaign conspired with the russian government in its election interference activities. but this is a sentence fragment from the report. here's what he didn't read. although the investigation established the russian government perceived it would benefit from a trump presidency and worked to secure that outcome, and the campaign expected it would benefit from information stolen and released from russian efforts, and then the rest of that sentence. the report lists instances where trump's words encouraged russian interference. there's an entire section on obstruction, which mueller lists 10 instances the president attempted to disrupt the investigation. he doesn't charge the president,

it's everything a small business owner needs. comcast business. beyond fast. welcome back. before you head out the door, the top stories on "today in the bay". >> we begin with breaking news. shots fired outside a hospital in fremont. this is washington hospital. it involved a man and police officer, only involved in this. the suspect is now dead. you can see live footage where police officers still have the area outside the hospital blocked off there. this did not involve anything in the hospital but happened on the sidewalk and street outside the

emergency. >> fremont police are saying this is an ambush-style attack. they say an officer was driving by the bus stop in front of the hospital headed back on patrol when the suspect allegedly fired at the officer in his car. the officer then returned fire. the suspect fell to the ground but was still reaching for a gun. that's when two other officers fired back at him and the suspect was killed there on the spot. fremont police say they will have more details but they are not going to release them until about 24 to 48 hours, i believe they said. they want to make sure they have everything in order as they release and want to make sure the suspect's family is properly notified. >> the daily problems continue for facebook. we told you about this yesterday. the mistake facebook made with male contacts. the federal trade commission is looking into sanctioning not facebook but mark zuckerberg specifically.
