this morning. a magnitude 6.1 earthquake shaking parts of central philippines. according to the usgs it was not strong enough to trigger a tsunami. but witnesses say buildings swayed in manila. people evacuated the building as the earthquake hit. there are no reports of deaths. we will bring you updates as they come in. another breaking story for you. a reported bombing in sri lanka an hour ago. >> let's take a live look at st. anthony's church in colombo. it was bombed easter sunday. a van parked near the church and exploded. so far no injuries were reported

from the recent bombing. but 290 people died. at least 500 hurt in sunday's attacks. it was the deadliest day of violence since the civil war ended a decade ago. several u.s. citizens are believed to have been killed in the attacks. police arrested 24 people in connection with this. many people in the bay area are gathering to honor the victims. >> reporter: at the temple, their hearts are heavy. they offer prayers for the bay area for the dead and wounded in sri lanka after an unimaginable easter sunday attack. >> unfortunately this happened on the very important day for christian people. and we are very, very sad. >> reporter: sri lanka was hit

by bombs. in the aftermath, 200 dead, including several americans. hundreds more are injured and being treated in hospitals. the images are devastating. in the midst of the chaos, this man, his wife, infant daughter narrowly escaped. >> i could see a lot of people with glass in their body. >> reporter: president trump tweeted condolences writing, we stand ready to help. sri lanka police have arrested seven. they are promising a full investigation. meanwhile, back in santa clara, prayers continue to go up. and this congregation stands ready to help with humanitarian aid. >> we do what we can do from here. we are definitely going to do that. >> reporter: roz plater, nbc bay

area news. another easter service became alarming. we are learning new details about it all. a woman walked into a church auditorium carrying a baby and gun. police say the 32-year-old threatened to blow up the church while waving the gun around. >> we have information that the child was in her arms and the gun was pointed at her child at one point. again, the statements made by her, we are looking into that. some of the stuff that is being relayed to us is not making a lot of sense to us. there is a religious element to it. >> she was tackled from before she could pull the trigger. 4:35. a hang glider crashed into the ocean and died. it happened south of pacifica.

they all searched for the pilot in the ocean and eventually found him, but incident was just too late and they could not revive him. the san mateo county sheriff's office is looking into what caused the crash. teachers and parents are going to rally outside the mount diablo school board tonight. educators are asking for more nurses, and more pay, smaller classes. coming up at 5:30, bob redell will have a live report on the yon going negotiations. and this morning we're learning more about a violent attack at parking lot's mcarthur station in oakland. a passenger was punched and left bloody during an attempted robbery. this happened 10:00 p.m. saturday.

a group of teens walked up to the man, punched him in the face. they tried to steal the phone but were not able to get it. police detained five teenagers eyes in the skies helped to catch a dirt bike theft yesterday. they were riding way too fast on a sidewalk. the helicopter pilot tipped off officers on the ground. hopefully whoever it belongs to is getting it back. >> what a fun day for bay area sports fans. it was hard to focus on other stuff. >> aside from the easter egg hunting. a large crowd for warriors and clippers. leading the series two games to one. at the half, k.d. with an impressive three-pointer 30 feet out. plus getting a foul.

the dow rose 26559. nasdaq at 7998. today investors can expect data on existing home sales and earnings results from kimberly clark and whirlpool. gas prices surging 13 cents a gallon to $2.91. increasing crude oil is contributing pushing average gas prices as high as 4:04 in the bay area. and domestic box office saw its slowest easter weekend in a decade. led by horror film the curse. the lowest showing since 2005, according to com score. hollywood have been holding off on the biggest titles that will be released on friday.

i saw so many people at the pool yesterday. it's going to get even hotter. although the temperatures feel warm now, we are talking 80s and 90s expected ahead. current temperature is 48 degrees. for the most part we are seeing clearing skies. low clouds on the coast, the north bay. temperature is 51 degrees. temperatures are cool to start. they will be very, very fast to warm. doppler radar showing the clear conditions. high pressure is dominating our forecast. 10 degrees or interior valleys and 5 on the coast compared to yesterday. yesterday we were low 70s and 80s. today south bay 81. 82 for morgan hill. east bay, 72 for oakland. concord, 84. pittsburg, 85. peninsu peninsula, 72. upper 70s through redwood city. and in san francisco, we're

tracking 70s for the embarcadero. 73 for mission. up through the north bay, 85 for santa rosa. 84 for novato. incoming changes. again, the strong ridge of high pressure is already building in, settling over the bay area. as we head in towards tuesday and thursday. tuesday, weapons, thursday, we are expecting those days to be the warmest. 70s along the coast and bay. 80s, near 90 in inland valley into tuesday and wednesday. just looking way out ahead. once that system moves out, with he get the possibility of seeing a low pressure system that moves in, cools us down. the models are showing a couple of traces of showers here and there. the big story, again, will be the warmup. san francisco, tuesday is going to be the warmest day for coastal valleys. we're talking upper 70s. 78 degrees. warm temperatures will linger into wednesday and thursday. then on wednesday it is expected to be the hottest day for interior valleys, especially the

for bart. back to you. thanks, mike. in sacramento, a police chase ended with a shooting. it happened late saturday night. officers say someone called 911 to report an armed man breaking into a trailer. shortly after officers arrived, the chase started leading to the shooting. both officers were shot in the lower leg. they are both expected to be okay. the suspect was also shot, but we don't know what their condition is at this point. new this morning, thousands are moving out of los angeles county. experts say just like the bay area, the cost of rent is really driving force there. according to the statistics, more than 13,000 people left the county last year. l.a. residents spent $40 billion in rent in 2018. studies show half of residents pay more than 30% of their income on housing. venice has the highest average of rent anywhere in the city of los angeles.

it cost over $3,000 a month for a one bedroom apartment. >> well, a bay area woman who caused a national uproar after screaming at a man with a maga hat is pheumissing. >> it happened at a coffee shop in palo alto. she lost her job at a music store and also got death threats. she was reported missing friday morning as she was supposed top head home to palo alto after visiting a friend in lake county but didn't make it. investigators believe she went off the grid to avoid any more negative attention. they are concerned because she did spark so much outrage. 4:51. turning to decision 2020 and the presidential race, massachusetts representative moulton is launching a democratic bid. he released this campaign overnight. he focuses on gun control and national security.
