"today in the bay" starts right now. i almost said spiking the fuel. that is not right. thanks so much for joining us. i'm kris sanchez in for laura. >> i'm marcus washington. first, we want to get to the weather. vianey, you said it's going to be a really nice one. >> i think people will like this week, especially if you're a fan of a summer preview. 48 degrees in san francisco. not concerned about breezy conditions today. san jose, 50 degrees. not concerned about the wind speeds. however, we are going to be monitoring the temperatures. the high pressure is really going to begin to dominate. by 11:00 a.m., in the 60s. by 1:00, 70s. by the afternoon, 80s. upper 80s in the interior valleys. this is only going to get warmer into the workweek. i'll send things over to mike.

dead and 500 injured. some u.s. citizens are said to have been killed in the attack. coming up at 5:30, we will have reaction from here in the bay area. it is earth day. there are a lot of major events going on all across the bay area. sharon ckatsuda is live in san francisco. the mayor is talking about something big. tell us about it. >> reporter: good morning, kris. it will be a beautiful and sunny day, a perfect day for all of these events to take place later today. in san francisco, mayor london breed and city officials are expected to announce plans for renewable energy in san francisco and banning some diesel buses in the city. menlo park at noon, a group will hold a demonstration at el camino real and ravens wood avenue. the decision permits the property owner at the location to cut down the redwood trees to fix a waterproof barrier

protecting a parking structure. residents are asking to step in and overturn the decision. and nate miley is launching a pilot program to find new ways to tackle the widespread illegal dumping of waste on city streets in east oakland. supervisor miley and community volunteers will gather at the corner of 90th and d street at 9:30 a.m. the group is going to illustrate how they can gather so much trash in just two hours in that neighborhood. so these are just some of the events that are coming up in the bay area later today. reporting live, i'm sharon katsuda. back to you. thank you very much, sharon. palo alto is trying to ease traffic congestion by charging developers higher fees. the city council is asking for your input at tonight's public meeting. you might remember palo alto is considering charging developers a one-time fee of $8,000 for every new car trip they would

produce during the evening rush hour. it would apply to developments in every part of the city and would replace the current system. >> oakland police department is working to crack down on sideshows to stop a repeat of what happened less than two weeks ago. it ended in gun violence and a truck and bus being set on fire. police are saying it's common for sideshows to start ticking up during the warm spring weekends. and sideshows have gotten bigger, more dangerous since they started in the 80s. here's captain randy winngate of the oakland police department. >> it was more of a younger high school crowd of kids, playing music, interacting with each other. it was more of a social scene. this is complete lawlessness. >> oakland p.d. will make arrests when warranted and impound cars. as of now, none have been made. therenos founder is expected

to court in san francisco. she and the president are accused of a multimillion dollar scheme to defraud patients, doctors, and investors. they are expected in court for a case status hearing. all of this centering around the edison device which some he claimed could take medical tests with a single drop of blood. a teenager is behind bars in connection with a shooting in the north bay. an 18-year-old was shot in the leg early yesterday morning on sidney -- or snyder lane in reason effort park. he got into a fight with three people, and one of them pulled out a gun. the victim is going to be okay. police say a 16-year-old suspect arrested in connection to that shooting is a known santa rosa gang member. you probably already know this, but gas prices are

continuing to climb. and as no surprise, the bay area has the highest prices in the entire country. prices increased by 13 cents a gallon just in the last two weeks. in fact, prices have been going up steadily since the start of 2019. right now they are more than 40 cents higher than the same time last year. 40 cents. the reason is crude oil prices are up and production is down because many refineries are going through both planned and unplanned repairs. so here's what you can expect if you are headed out this monday morning. a gallon of regular, $4.04 in oakland. $4.05 in san francisco and $4.09 in san francisco, the highest in the country. >> firefighters in alameda county find some adorable creatures that needed some rescuing. we're talking ducklings. the department posted on twitter for us. firefighters rescued 10

this morning the company says it is monitoring the situation after video appeared on chinese media showing a tesla model s exploding in shanghai. it is our understanding nobody was hurt. bad timing for the company. it is due to hold an event here in northern california showing off the self-driving abilities of its relatively low-cost model 3. the company reports profits this week. it's hard not to see the event today showing off new technology is maybe the sugar before some possible bitter medicine on wednesday. more calls for the breakup of some of silicon valley's biggest companies. cory booker tweeted we need to use every anti-trust remedy, including breaking up firms, to protect consumers, competition, and our democracy. elizabeth warren has said much the same thing, targeting google and facebook. warren isn't just looking forward. she would like to undo previous deals.

of about 72 degrees. that's pretty warm for the city. napa, 84. 73 for oakland. the warmest temperature in through antioch at 86. but this is only setting us up for a warming trend. let's take a look at the long range outlook. it is bringing us gorgeous sunshine. it will dry us out. it builds in. our warmest days are expected to be tuesday into wednesday. we're talking 70s and 80s near the coast and the bay. 90s inland valley. looking at the hour by hour outlook, on tuesday, coastal temperatures are expected to be the warmest. 76 for san francisco. 80 for san mateo. the interior valleys, fremont, 84, 85. but as the high pressure begins to move east, as we head in towards wednesday, interior valleys are expected to be the warmest. we'll be talking upper 80s and low 90s. as far as any heat associated with this, right now looking

on display. a story we have been covering for days on nbc bay area. saturday morning at the zoo in topeka, the tiger is tacked the zookeeper in front of visitors. zoo officials say they are not blaming the tiger. >> with a human in his space, he did what a tiger would do. he will not be euthanized. he is out in his outdoor habitat today. >> the zookeeper was scratched and badly bitten but is going to be okay. they are reviewing procedures to make sure an attack doesn't happen again. >> george zimmerman is being banned from the app tinder. he was acquitted in the shooting death of trayvon martin. there are reports zimmerman used a fake name to get on the dating app.

video from manila. people are evacuating the buildings, rushing the streets. witness report several buildings were swaying in the capital city. people were still at work or even leaving. so far there's no reports of deaths. we are going to stay on this breaking story and bring you the updates as they come in. we are staying on top of breaking news out of sri lanka. new video of another bombing there that happened earlier this morning. take a look. that's brand-new video of the explosion at st. anthony's church in colombo. what we know is this church of course was already bombed easter sunday. this morning, though, a van parked near the church slowed, as you saw in the video. so far no injuries have been reported from the recent bombing. but 290 people were killed. at least 500 others were hurt in sunday's attacks.

it was sri lanka's deadliest day of violence since the civil war ended a decade ago. several u.s. citizens are believed to have been killed in these attacks. police arrested 24 people in connection. 5:33 right now. this morning communities across the bay area are mourning in sri lanka. >> the south bay monks in santa clara held a special prayer service yesterday, praying for the victims and their families. they say this is so disturbing because sri lanka's focus is on peace. to have this happen when it did is simply hard to understand. >> unfortunately this happened on a very important day for christian people. and we are very, very saddened. >> the congregation is small but has a history of social and humanitarian work here, the u.s. and sri lanka.

they will meet to see what they can do to help the victims. teach tphers contra costa county are making similar demands that we have seen before. today in the bay bob redell joins us. bob? >> reporter: tonight educators and parents will be rallying here in concord to try to pressure the mount diablo unified school district to give higher pay for tens of thousands who attend school in this area. the teachers have been working without a contract since july. they are not yet at an impasse in contract talks. they have not authorized a strike. but negotiations just aren't going well. teachers want lower class size, better support for bilingual students. and more teachers, counselors, and nurses. there are only 14 districtwide for all 30,000 students.

talking about next weekend. >> things are going to get cooler compared to this week. your saturday forecast, the high pressure is going to begin to fall apart by thursday night. and then by friday, as the high pressure leaves the area, a system will approach nearby. it will cool us off significantly for the coast. abouting into the 60s. so this is actually a little more seasonable for the time of the year. this week we'll be above seasonable. by the weekend, the bay about 72. inland areas in the upper 70s at 78 degrees. then things are only going to get cooler into sunday. again, because of that passing system. now right now the models are conflicting in terms of the possibility of seeing showers into sunday. as we inch closer in towards the weekend, the tiling of potential

okay. the suspect was also shot, but we don't know how they're doing this morning. new this morning, thousands of people are moving out of los angeles county. expert say just like here in the bay area the cost of rent is the driving force. according to the census statistics, more than 13,000 people left the county last year. l.a. residents spent more than $40 billion in rent in 2018. the studies also show half of residents pay more than 30% of their income in housing. venice has the highest average rent anywhere in los angeles. the cost over $3,000 a month for a one bedroom apartment. >> that is not what we paid when we lived down there for sure. >> prices going up. a bay area woman who caused a national uproar after screaming at a man with a maga hat is missing. >> we told you about the confrontation she had earlier this month.

86 degrees. palo alto, 79. san jose, topping out in the 80s. i want to show you the long range outlook. the reason we are already an already warming trend is good old high pressure. we have this strong ridge of high pressure that's building into the bay area. it's going to settle right over the bay area. as you know, when high pressure begins to build in, it dries us out. our temperatures are expected to climb into tuesday for the coast and inland areas. we are expecting our warmest days tuesday. temperatures inching in the 80s, san mateo, palo alto. 80s into livermore, concord. and on wednesday, we are expecting that ridge of high pressure to start making its move out of the area. so that means that the interior valleys will see the warmest days on wednesday. that's where we are expecting 90s in livermore. as far as any heat risks

associated with this, moderate heat risks from it. again, in san francisco, the warmest day is expected to be tuesday. the high pressure will settle over the coastal areas. it will drop degrees down by wednesday. sunshine my thursday. friday, we get a system approaching nearby. that will cool us off and kick up the winds. as far as your inland temperatures go, well, the high pressure will settle into tuesday night and wednesday. and as that high pressure moves further into the east bay, wednesday is expected to be the hottest day in inland areas. upper 80s, low 90s. we will keep a close eye on it. we haven't seen 90s since last september. that will be big news for us. the system approaches into friday and saturday. again, breezy winds will kick up into the weekend and cool us off. at least we're not tracking any rain.
