just metering lights. back to you. there you see it right there. we are staying to top of this breaking news. another bombing in sri lanka. this one happening just this morning. this is brand-new video of the explosion at st. anthony's church in columbo. this church was already bombed easter sunday. a van parked outside of that church exploded. this comes as secretary of state mike pompeo is expected to deliver remarks regarding the string of attacks on churches and hotels. pompeo is blaming radical terrorist the for the attacks, that left 290 dead and at least 500 injured. several u.s. citizens are believed to have been killed. coming up at 6:30, reaction from

everything except secret grand jury information. attorney general barr testifies next week. lawmakers are asking for mueller by may 23rd. now former white counsel don mcgahn. the white house says none of it is necessary. >> they declined to indict. the president is not going to jail. >> reporter: the president's lawyer said campaign officials seeking damaging information on hillary clinton from a russian lawyer was not illegal. >> there is nothing wrong with taking information from russians. >> reporter: and the president tweets the mueller investigation was the worst and most corrupt political witch-hunt in the history of the united states. so now we will wait to see the response from the justice department. they will respond to the subpoena next week, may 1st. >> they want to see every word

of the document. i don't know if that will ever happen. tracie, thank you. happening today, it's earth day. major events going on across the bay area. sharon katsuda is live for us in san francisco. i know mayor london breed has something planned for us. what is she talking about today? >> reporter: well, that's right, marcus. you can see behind me, it's a beautiful skyline. it's going to be a beautiful day, a perfect day to go out and celebrate these events later today. mayor london breed and city officials are expected to announce plans for renewable energy in san francisco. and there's talk about banning diesel buses in the city. in menlo park at noon, a group plans to hold a demonstration near el camino real and ravenswood avenue. the commission voted to up hold the decision which permits the property owner to cut down the redwood trees to fix a waterproof barrier blocking a parking structure.

they are urging city council to step in and overturn the city's decision. and nate miley is launching a pilot program to find new ways to tackle the widespread illegal dumping of waste on city streets in east oakland. supervisor miley and community volunteers will gather at the corner of 90th and d street at 9:30 a.m. the group is going to illustrate how they can gather so much trash in just two hours in that neighborhood. so that's a quick wrap of what's going on for earth day in the bay area. i'm sharon katsuda, "today in the bay". >> seeing all that waste, sharon, it makes us know why we need a day to think about your planet, our earth, and ways to protect it. >> reporter: more than a day for sure. palo alto is trying to ease traffic congestion by charging higher fees.

the city council is asking for your input at tonight's public meeting. you might remember palo alto is considering charging developers a one-time fee of $8,000 for every new car trip they would generate during evening rush hour. it would apply to developments in every part of the city and would replace the current system. 6:07 right now. new details. a teenager is behind bars this morning after being connected to a shooting at a house party in the north bay. an 18-year-old was shot in the leg, this is early yesterday morning, on snyder lane in rohnert park. he got into a fight with three people, one of them pulling out a gun. the victim is going to be okay. police say the 16-year-old suspect arrested in connection with that shooting is known to be in a gang in the santa rosa area. happening today, thertheran founder is back in court.

she and the president are accused of a multimillion dollar scheme to defraud patients, doctors, and investors. they are expected in court for a case status hearing. all of this centering around the edison device which some he claimed could take medical tests on a single drop of blood. it turns out that device never worked. holmes faces 20 years in prison. the bay area has the highest prices in gas in the country. prices went up 13 cents in the last two weeks and steadily since the start of the year. right now they are 40 cents higher than this time last year. and the reason is crude oil prices are up. production is down because many refineries are going through planned and unplanned repairs. so here's what you can expect if

into wednesday. upper 80s, low 90s as we head towards the evening. thursday things will cool off. we see an approaching system that will drop daytime highs back into the 70s biff as much as 10 degrees. next weekend is looking beautiful but just slightly cooler. all right, mike, what's going on out on the roads? >> vianey, we have these two crashes i'm concerned about. the commute looking lighter than your typical monday. metering lights are on. backup standard over there. south bay moves smoothly. southbound 680. this crash finally got confirmed. confirmation that all vehicles have moved to the right shoulder. you see the build all the way down to highway 84. crash cleared to the shoulder. speeds starting to improve. sending folks to mission boulevard, north and south. the crash on tennyson just moved

what you are seeing right now is the aftermath of a new explosion at st. anthony's church in colombo. information still coming in. but this was actually the earthquake. that happened this morning, which was a 6.1 there. as you can see, a lot of people running out of the buildings this morning as they tried to say the buildings were shaking. we have heard there is no threat of a tsunami in that area. but, again, certainly a very frightening moment as the 6.1 earthquake hit this morning. more breaking news for you. i want you to see this video. this is of another bombing in sri lanka. this one just happening earlier this morning. take a listen. [ explosion ]. >> this is brand new video of an explosion at st. anthony's church in colombo. we are learning this was the

church with a bombing happened easter sunday. a van parked at that church and exploded. so far no injuries have been reported from the recent bombing. and 290 people died from the earlier bombings on easter. 500 were hurt in the attacks. it was the deadliest day of violence since the devastating civil war ended a decade ago. several u.s. citizens are believed to have been killed in the a, ta. police have arrested 24 people in connection. this morning, communities across the bay area are mourning with sri lanka. in the south bay, monks at a temple in santa clara held a special prayer service praying for the victims and their families. they say that this is so disturbing because sri lankans focus on peace. and to have this happen when it did to comprehend what happened there. >> unfortunately this happened

on the very important day for christian people. and we are very, very saddened. >> the congregation is small but has a history of humanitarian work here in the u.s. and sri lanka. they will meet later today to see how they can help the victims. teachers in contra costa county are making similar demands we have seen before. instructors at the mt. diablo school district are following the lead of other bay area school teachers. bob redell is live in mt. diablo. what is it they're asking for? >> reporter: kris, tonight educators and parents are going to rally here in concord to try to pressure the mt. diablo unified school district to give higher pay and better learning conditions for tens of thousands of students who go to school in this area.

the teachers have been working without a contract since july. not yet at an impasse. negotiations just aren't going well. in addition to more money, teachers want lower class sizes, better support for bilingual students. more librarians, counselors and newers. there are only 14 nurses district wide for all 30,000 students. and some libraries are only open one day a week. now, when it comes to pay, east bay times reports teacher compensation is competitive here and the district does spend 90% of its budget on salary and benefits. the school board meeting take place at 7:00. bob redell, "today in the bay". all right. we'll following that. thanks, bob. a lot of questions this morning after an hang glider crashed into the ocean and died.

chp, county rescue and coast guard all searched for the pilot in the ocean. they eventually found him, but they just could not revive him. san mateo county sheriff's office is looking into what might have caused the crash. >> also new this morning, boeing is denying a published report that it threatened the safety of the company's 787 planes. it claims that boeing ignored and sought retribution against employees. those workers also complained that the plant turned a blind eye on problems by the planes. in a letter to employees the sight leader said the "times" distorted the information. okay. so what did you do yesterday? proudly watched sports yesterday. we had the best of seven

it will dry us out and warm us up. it is expected to be tuesday for the coastal area and wednesday near the inland valleys. looking at the temperatures right now, 70s for today. check out tuesday. we are tracking 80s for san mateo. 85, palo alto. tuesday will be the warmest days for the coastal valleys, coastal areas. wednesday, as the high pressure begins to move out of the area, check out danville. 88. but possible 90s in through livermore. if we do end up hitting the 90s, this will be the first time we have seen those temperatures since september of last year. it's been quite a while since we have seen such hot temperatures. 70s for san francisco. high pressure holding on tight. as we head towards next weekend, another system will drop our daytime highs and kick up the winds. 88 wednesday. mike, are you ready for it? >> no. never ready for 88. but thank you for the warning. we have a good deal of sunshine. san francisco into oakland,

unified school board. the group says it can get attention on yon going contract negotiations between teachers and the school district. they are asking for smaller class sizes, more nurses, and of course better pay. it comes weeks after oakland and san ramon unified both reached tentative agreements on higher pay. also, 6:58 now. and new overnight, tesla is investigating an apparent explosion of one of its cars in china. the company says it sent a team to investigate. the video here posted to a chinese website. you see the car there just burst into flames. it is a tesla model s, which is just parked. no one died. we don't believe anybody was hurt. no word yet on why the car exploded >> palo alto is charging developers higher fees. city council is asking for your input at tonight's public meeting. palo alto is considering charging developers a one-time
