90s. things are going to get warmer into the afternoon. i'll give you a complete look how long this high pressure is dominating and will warm us up. i'm telling the truth about the commute as well. metering lights are on at the bay bridge. better than your typical tuesday because we don't have slam packed traffic. it will build once again. a little bit of a break. here at the top, upper east shore freeway. build toward the richmond-san rafael toll plaza. highway 580 without any problems. highway 4 early slowing which kind of stuck through bay point. the rest of the build south bay has no problem. it is eastbound 580. a concern as folks head to i-5 distracted by smoke and by fire. the big story, guys. back to you. all right. thanks so much, mike.

breaking news for you right now. this massive fire burning at a pallet company in stockton. take a look at the flames right there. we have been telling you about this six-alarm fire right now. it may even go to a seven-alarm fire. they say the crews on the scene as we see right there are walking through, trying to check things out, get it under control. a number of alarms have been going up since we went on air at 4:30. this fire started at a business called california pallet manufacturing. we're also just finding out numerous businesses may be ablaze right now as well. also new for you, a fire official was just quoted as saying acres and acres of stacks of wood and other wood products are on fire. this could fuel those flames there. a heads-up if you leave in east contra costa county. some of the viewers there, in the discovery bay area as well as brentwood, may see a glow from a far or smell the smoke, because of this huge intense fire there.

this is not far from where another fire was happening last night. that one a three-alarm fire also at port of stockton. smoke could be seen as far as pittsburg and antioch. we checked with vianey. she was telling us that the winds right now are low out of the south. so a lot of the smoke may not make it into the bay area. of course we will continue to track this breaking news story throughout the morning. 6:03 now. a story making national headlines. a woman is accusing former golden state warriors coach of sexual assault. luke walton left in 2016. and the alleged incident happened before that. "today in the bay" bob redell is live outside oracle arena. luke walton is issuing a statement. what is he saying? >> reporter: kris, luke walton, former assistant coach for the golden state warriors, say these allegations are baseless and his accuser will be proven wrong in

the court of law approximately his accuser is a sports reporter. she is suing walton. walton, who also used to be the head coach for the l.a. lakers, and who just got head coaching job for sacramento kings. she claims while he was assistant coach for the warriors he sexual assaulted her in a room at casa del mar while the warriors were in town to play the lakers. she said walton asked her to come meet him in his room to help discuss writing part of her upcoming book. when she arrived, the suit claims, he forced himself on her. she allegedly screamed for him to stop and try to get away. according to the suit, he eventually let her leave the room. sports fans say they want to know more before jumping to their own conclusions. >> i think it's wrong. but i want the truth. and i don't want to accuse anybody until the truth is out. >> you've got to give him the benefit of the doubt.

county and contra costa are preparing for the changes on the census by holding special meetings to residents. now to capitol hill. democrats are divided over whether to try to impeach president trump for obstruction into the investigation into russia and interfering in our presidential election. senator kamala harris says he should be removed from office harris, who is making a 2020 bid, spoke at a townhall moderated by cnn. >> i think we have very good reason to believe there is an investigation that has been conducted which has produced evidence that this president and his administration engaged in obstruction of justice. i believe congress should take the steps towards impeachment. >> and over the weekend elizabeth warren, who is also running for president, said similar statements. tracie potts has more reaction from washington. >> reporter: it's a house divided. some democrats think there is already enough evidence to

new details this morning you could be paying more for your electric bill. pg&e is asking for another increase in rates. so the company says this is needed for wildfire safety and to attract investment as the utility goes through bankruptcy. pg&e is facing several lawsuits following the deadly wildfires of 2017 and 2018. as the "sacramento bee" reports, the request and the previous one could cause prices to raise $22 a month. mark tony is calling this new request outrageous. back here in the bay area, student loan debt is soaring, as you may know from personal experience. new numbers show the amount owed has tripled in the last 15 years. about 735,000 people in the bay area owe nearly $27 billion in student debt as of last year, according to the new study. the research finds bay area borrowers are having more

trouble making loan payments. this report comes just one day after 2020 presidential candidate elizabeth warren unveiled a new education plan aimed at reducing student loan debt. all right. we also have an update on the elephant seal that was molting on the beach of san francisco. he unexpectedly showed up at aquatic park last week. they decided to move him to an animal hospital in sausalito because there were so many people showing up to take pictures. and it was stressing that giant little guy out. so he's now safe and sound. hopefully he can molt in peace. it is molten out there. >> very hot. there will be a lot more people out there because temperatures are going to be hot today. our forecasted highs for the bay area throughout, we will have a good spread of microclimates. south bay, upper 80s. morgan hill, 89. south bay, san jose, 86 degrees.

could determine the navigation center's future. there has been a push back on all sides. pete suratos is joining us live with more of those details. pete? >> reporter: yeah. good morning to you, marcus. as far as the details go, it would be a homeless shelter built along the embarcadero, a very popular part of san francisco. it has become an issue that mayor london breed has been forced to defend. >> do you want me to talk or not? >> reporter: san francisco mayor london breed trying to calm down residents at a community meeting earlier this month on this issue in san francisco. san francisco port commission is going to vote on the future of this homeless -- or this navigation center later today incident to give viewers a quick breakdown how the site will look. a safe navigation center built at the seawall lot, 300 on the embarcadero, not far from oracle park. it would eventually serve 200

clients. when it opens, the number will be around 130. it falls in love with the mayor's plan to open 1,000 shelter beds in the city of san francisco by the end of 2020. the debate has been heated with both sides creating go fund me accounts for their arguments. those living in rincon hill claim they are getting death threats when it comes to their position. here's what both sides had to say about this contentious issue at that meeting. >> housing is the answer. navigation center is halfway between a shelter and housing. >> in my frustration is today was a sales pitch. it was not a community meeting. as evidenced by them focused on colors, lighting and the center look and feel of the facility not what's happening to the people on the other side. >> reporter: the san francisco port commission owns that lot. they will have to approve any agreement as it goes forward.

the vote will take place later today 3:15 p.m. live in san francisco, pete suratos, "today in the bay". pete, thank you. thanks, pete. new, san francisco sheriff vicky hennessey is calling on the fbi of allegations of a deputy beating an inmate at the county jail. the deputy allegedly punched him in the head last thursday after he refused to go back to his cell. the inmate needed treatment for head injuries. according to a sheriff's spokesperson, the deputy is now being transferred out of the jail. well, this morning a man is being charged with secretly filming up a little girl's skirt at the walnut creek apple store. jacques bloxom taeuptd a camera to his shoe, and the girl's father spotted him putting it under her skirt. when the father confronted the man, he took off running. but a woman chased him into a parking garage,.ed him out to

refund. 6:45. happening today, governor gavin newsom is coming to the east bay. the deadly fire was in that same area. 4,000 homes were destroyed. 25 people died because of that fire. at the state capital, approving homes in high fire risk areas is moving forward. it would require developers to increase fire protections and also to plan for evacuations. lawmakers say the measure is needed after last year's deadly campfire in butte county. today is the deadline day for president trump's taxes. irs has to reveal the taxes. >> that's what the law says.

in an undercount of the immigrant population and less money for communities. santa clara and contra costa counties are preparing for the changes on the census by holding special meetings to hold residents. new details your power bill could be going up. the company is saying that this is needed for wildfire safety and to attract investment as a utility goes through bankruptcy. pg&e is facing several lawsuits, including those deadly wildfires from 2017 and 2018. this request and the previous one could result in the average pg&e bill rising by more than $22 a month. utility consumer advocates are calling this outrageous. two google employees say the company retaliated pause they organized worldwide protests in november. this is video from the walkouts. they protested because of the
