high temperatures. a live look at san jose. campbell, 60 degrees at 8:00. and our record high today, 92 degrees. we may set a new record in the south bay as we see the high temperatures reaching into the low 90s in a few spots. we'll get a look at microclimates coming up. you are tracking a carr fire. >> we don't need it any hotter. freeways are moving nicely. myron, south of discovery bay, the carr fire off highway 4 over there. pretty remote area south of this waterway right there. it should be out of lanes. no injuries reported. that is the big issue in this area for some commuters heading toward 580. 880, slowing at the construction zone around 23rd.

cash lanes a little backup. >> streets in sunnyvale are still shut down after a terrifying crash yesterday. >> the driver slamming into a crowd of people. now there are questions on why the driver didn't stop. bob redell is live at the scene. bob? >> chris and marcus, you can see the intersection behind me el camino real and sunnyvale avenues. we are still trying to figure out, as you mentioned, who was the driver and why did he, according to police, intentionally run people over at this intersection? the man behind the wheel of a black sedan ran into eight people. two on bicycles. the remaining six on foot. they were either in the sidewalk or waiting or to cross. belongings strewn all over the place. the youngest being 13 years old. they were all taken to the

hospital. some of the injuries are serious. the driver crashed into a nearby tree, was arrested. police have questioned him to determine his motive, which is still a big question mark for us. >> we have a preliminary witness statement that the car was accelerating. and based on scene, it looks like he didn't try to brake at all. >> reporter: police have indicated to us they will update us with a news conference sometime later today. some lanes remain closed. enough are still open that you can drive down el camino and get through this intersection. all lanes will reopen after law enforcement finishes this part of their investigation. bob redell, "today in the bay". . thank you, bob. and you heard bob say there is a press conference that might happen a little later today. we are outside sunnyvale public safety, which is the police department and the fire

appealed to the board of supervisors. if neither happens, they could break ground on the navigation center in june. 4:35 right now. a contra costa elementary school plans to install new security cameras by the next school year. this follows vandalism at buena vista in walnut creek. two playgrounds were littered with glass, pellet guns and clothing from the lost and found the past few weeks. driving through the mission in san francisco will be a little less green. you'll notice that as the city is going to cut down 51 ficus trees along 24th street. it originally planned to cut down 76 but scaled it back after a heated public hearing. the public works department say the 50-year-old trees are a safety hazard. >> we have seen them come down, hit cars, block lanes of traffic, and in a couple of instances, injure people. >> they will be replaced with red maple or other trees that

headquarters. stocks are looking like they will open pretty flat this morning as investors gear up for another busy earnings day on wall street. big names including at&t and boeing. after the bell, results from facebook, chipotle and tesla. jack dorsey meeting with one of his most high-profile users, president trump. they sat down for a closed door meeting a few hours after he accused twitter of being discriminatory against republicans. they discussed the 2020 election. efforts to stop opioid abuse, and reportedly the president's concerns over his account. kohl's and amazon expanding their partnership. all stores across the u.s. will begin accepting amazon returns at no additional cost to customers. the ceo says this is part of the retailers' overall efforts to drive more traffic to kohl's stores. over to you.

morning with some upper 50s around the bay area. even low to mid-60s in some of your warmer spots like palo alto now at 64. and also 65 in antioch. we head over toward martinez. we'll be in the low six. it's going to stay there. this is the time to get anything done around the house, going out for a jog, get the yard work done. get that done early this morning. at 9:00, 70 degrees. each hour we see the temperatures jumping about 5 degrees. it's going to heat up fast. we're going to see the temperatures at noon up to the low 80s. we won't stop there. so we are heading into the upper 80s in san jose. 87, milpitas. walnut creek, 90 degrees. 88 martinez. half moon bay reaching 70. staying comfortable there. you see the temperatures reaching the upper 80s.

sunset at 69. and some low 90s for parts of the north bay. i think in santa rosa we will set another record this afternoon. we're trying to do something to stay cool. make it a pool day, wear shorts if you're not headed to work today. we will see the high pressure still holding strong here. it's keeping any clouds or rain chances away. there will be a few minor changes to help cool us off. late sunday, early monday, we could see rain close to the bay area. what it will do is help to bring down our temperatures, change our winds, shifting more onshore. that will bring us a nice ocean breeze. that does not happen until early next week. we're in for hot temperatures the next few days.

>> they're working of course northbound. this is willow. north of there is the construction we see during monday through thursday work there. so there is a little more slowing. keep that in mind. other spots like oakland as well. they're working on the striping for the northbound direction around 23rd. that should be cleared in time for the bulk of your morning commute. 6 right there the tubes, that's marked for overnight maintenance work. that is scheduled. use park street bridge. smooth from the contra costa interchange. all moving very nicely.

the mayor are paid. the commission proposed a $58,000 salary increase. but the mayor says the raise is just too much money. right now he makes about $130,000 for reference. he said in the future, raises should never go above 3%. >> good news for south bay commuters. you can get a free ride on vta and light rain tomorrow. this is part of get on board day. they are encouraging businesses to get on board. companies that still work for public transit will be featured on buses and light rail trains that roll out tomorrow. a milestone for one shelter. they expect to perform its 10,000th spay/neuter procedure. a free gift bag and their loving
