>> reporter: yeah. good morning to you. very strange when it comes to this incident. two officers suffered minor injuries as a result of this sraoeupbt struggle. they say this man, who was naked, was running around this church parking lot and eventually into the chapel. they arrested him at the holy rosary church in antioch. police were called out 2:00 p.m. where they saw this man. 28-year-old pedro maris. he appeared to be under the influence of drugs. it took three officers to arrest him. he showed extreme strength at the time. two officers suffered minor injuries. they are still asking the public for more information when it comes to this case. note the suspect was taken to a local hospital. he is eventually going to be booked it of county jail later today. live in antioch, pete suratos for "today in the bay". >> thanks for the latest, pete. this morning a school greeter is being called a

greeter after helping save 45 preschool students and a dozen staff members in east oakland. it started after this crash you see right there. police say a crazed father carjacked and hijacked the school. >> the school greeter jumped into action and kept that man away from students. >> police are standing by outside the highland children's day care center at 86th avenue and a streets in east oakland hours after a man rammed a car into the building. >> i told everybody get to the back. just get to the back. >> tracy johnson greets parents and children daily. she said she knew there was going to be trouble when she refused to let the father here into the building. >> i seen him coming with that car. i told everybody, run. just run. >> it all started with a rj and some guy said jibberish to her she didn't understand. and he jumped on the car. >> reporter: the suspect kicked

the windshield in. >> he was leaning towards her and telling her get out the car, get out the car. >> she ran for her life. >> it was just so scary. >> reporter: rita ortega was stunned as she watched him ram the car into the building. >> he backed up, rammed into the gate. he was stuck for a second. then he came back and rammed straight through the day care. >> reporter: 45 children were ushered into the back of the building. the suspect was tackled by a staff member. police came quickly and arrested him. cheryl hurd, "today in the bay". >> 4:34 right now. also in oakland, a police officer recovery this morning after he was stand to the neck by a woman. it happened as he was what ugg to his car in plainclothes not far from police headquarters. >> they were on their way to their vehicle when a person armed with a knife approached

nice. temperatures have dropped. and we are going to still start out with 50s around the bay area. a live look at 580, dublin. everything is all clear. now, our temperatures in the upper 40s, low 50s to start the day. we will see it heating up again this afternoon. at least we have the early hours. while it is still mild by 11:00. brentwo brentwood, low 70s. so that is perfect. but of course it continues to heat up even more. so we are going to reach up to 82 in east san jose and morgan hill. just keep in mind that normal is about 70 to 71 degrees. so we're stillwell above where we should be. kind of skipping past april. but as you can see at the bottom of the screen, we're going to head back to where we should be for this time of spring. and we're going to reach 86 in concord. 86 also in danville. oakland, 73. san mateo, 74 will be the high today. san francisco keeping it cool with the fog and the clouds near the coast.

and some 60s there with upper 80s and upper 70s and low 80s in much of the north bay. so as we look at the satellite imagery, everything is mostly clear. and we're going to see mostly sunny skies throughout today. but there will be a few more clouds in the mix. we can see that there will be more clouds rolling in, heading into tomorrow. the marine layer will be back. if you're making beach plans, it will be cool and cloudy along the bay area coast all throughout the weekend. so then as we go into next week, it looks like we will see a few clouds. a weak disturbance passing by. overall, we stay dry. heading to the petaluma butter and egg days, tomorrow low 60s to start. low 70s throughout the afternoon. inland areas reach into the low 80s again tomorrow. sunday, a few more clouds, upper 70s. but looking really next week with highs in the mid-70s in san francisco, staying in the 60s. mike, you're giving us an da cr. >>t's ght.

i-80, upper east shore freeway. the rest of the bay shows you the green sensors as you expect much of the early commute. but we are looking at red. slowing as you get over here. a little more slowing building off the carquinas bridge, passing highway 4, pinol valley road. we had a web camera from caltrans available. see if it's still online. there we go. this is a still picture from the camera, backup approaching the crash. blocking the right three lanes. back to the maps. the backup right through the area. the tow truck is held up in that backup i just showed you. it is taking a little longer to get any progress or any new updates there. the toll plaza is moving smoothly. clear right now. a few cars in the cash lanes on the left side. that's about it right now. we will track that of course on a friday. we expect later metering lights on. san mateo moving smoothly. no delays on 101 or 280. back to you. thanks so much, mike.

4:50 right now. coming up on "today in the bay". controversy at the golden gate bridge. why some say this sign is offensive. classes canceled at louisiana tech university today after a tornado ripped through campus. the strong storm brought down power lines, busted out windows. it also damaged the baseball field. no students were seriously hurt. there were reports of students being scratched by flying glass. the university says its main challenge is just to try to clean up the debris. classes were4:50ight now.

4:53 on this friday morning. a live look at walnut creek. you can see people already on the road. mike will have a look at the commute coming up in just a bit. new details on the worst california coastal oil spill in nearly 25 years. >> the company behind planes all american pipeline is facing a fine of more than $3.3 million. it's a story we have been covering for years on "today in the bay". you might recall back in 2015, a pipeline sent 140,000 gallons of crude oil gushing onto a beach wildlife and hurt tourism and fishing. plain all american estimated costs of $300 million apologized and paid for the cleanup. a follow-up to car thefts on the rise. bart is unleashing new crime fighting tool -- before we get to that. i want to tell you about ucla. they are under quarantine orders due to measles exposure. this is impacting 127 students and faculty members. orders are being carried out at

cal state l.a. that quarantine could last up to a week. it is not just a growing problem in southern california. nationwide measles cases have hit the highest mark in 25 years. the majority are adults who were never vaccinated and exposed while traveling abroad. the bay area has 10 confirmed cases so far this year. back to that follow-up for you on those car thefts on the rise. bart is unleashing a new crim crime-fighting tool. >> police will use automated license plate readers to help catch criminals. it was voted on during will install four license plate readers as part of a new pilot program. not everyone is happy with the recent decision. privacy agents could use the data to target undocumented immigrants > well, are these signs
