>> i agree. it's been so hot the past couple of days and we're finally notice aggradual cooling, and look at this gorgeous shot in san francisco. we've got fog but also some high clouds rolling through. the reason for that is because there's a system just south of us so that gradual cooling is going to be thanks to that system. as we head in towards the 10:00, 11:00 a.m. hour temperatures will climb into the upper 60s. and really we're going to be keeping this cloud cover around but by about 1:00, 2:00 it'll get a little cloudier and temperatures will top out in the upper 70s. some of the warmer spots will be in through concord and even concord will be topping out in the low 80s today. >> i love that it's only the low 80s. all right, we'll see you soon. thanks. well, this morning the manhunt is over for the man

police believe went on a shooting rampage across the bay yesterday. the san francisco police department tweeted stefon jefferson was taken in while he was on the run. sources say shots were fired while he was taken into custody. jefferson was injured but we're told will survive. police say his shooting rampage started in oakland around 10:00 yesterday morning when he allegedly shot and killed his own family member named marcus jackson. and then about three hours later across the bay police believe jefferson also shot and killed a second person around 1:30 in the afternoon in san francisco's bay view district. back in oakland neighbors told us about marcus jackson, the first alleged victim of jefferson. >> marcus was a good man. that's all he did was try and help his family. >> he was a friend. he would give the shirt off his back. he pretty much was a good person. >> there was a third deadly

shooting at peoples park in berkeley just after 2:30 yesterday afternoon. uc berkeley police believe that shooting was targeted. they are not ruling out the possibility that jefferson could be possible for that killing as well. people in the east bay were shaken from their slumber early this morning. a 3.5 magnitude quake struck at 2:36 this morning. it was centered about a mile away from concord. we have not received any reports of injuries. however, we did get several calls into our newsroom from people in that area. now to the story that's getting more and more complex. isaiah peoples, an army veteran made his first court appearance yesterday. he's the man accused of deliberately driving into a crowd of people. peebles stood quietly in a san jose courtroom.

his attorney says they'll lay out their defense in their next hearing, that peebles suffers from ptsd. >> absolutely we are disputing this was an intentional act. this act clearly was the product of some mental disorder or mental defect that caused this to happen. >> a new twist minutes later when we caught the police chief speaking outside the courthouse. >> based on our investigation new evidence shows that the defendant intentionally targeted the victims based on their race and his belief that they were of the muslim faith. >> there is no hate crime allegation charged at this point in time for one reason only, the matter is still being investigated. >> the executive director of the counsel on american islamic relations in the bay area says if there is indeed evidence there should be a hate crime investigation. peebles, by the way, is being

held without bail. four of the eight people hit remain in the hospital. one of them is just 13 years old, a girl still in a coma with injuries described as life threatening. a woman was hit by a car as she was crossing a busy street in santa clara. it happened around 6:00 last night at el camino rael and flora vista. the driver hit the woman and the car then jumped the curb running over bushes. it finally came to a stop about 75 yards away in a parking lot. the victim is in critical but stable condition we're told. police believe she was in the crosswalk when she was hit. they say the driver stayed at the scene and did cooperate. drugs and alcohol were not factors. a mother and her toddler are recovering in the hospital after they were hit by a car as they crossed the street near their san francisco apartment. it happened yesterday morning at a ucsf housing complex near twin peeks. police say the driver of a red cross van was turning into the parking lot but clipped an on

coming car in the process. the driver of that on coming car tells us he's a firefighter in training. he steered his car around the mother and child as best he could. >> the main thing i'm worried about is the baby. to see that stroller come with me, i was so worried that the baby didn't get caught either under my car or anything of that sort. >> he ended up smashing into a bench. witnesses say his quick maneuvering likely saved the lives of both the mother and child. a follow-up now to that massive muny shutdown yesterday morning. service is up and running as of early yesterday morning when an over head power line detached in the downtown subway tunnel. this happened between powell street and civic center stations. riders were stuck finding another way to get around. this is just one in a series of mishaps with muny this week.

a driver shortage also has been causing system wide delays all week long. after 18 hours of searching, investigators stopped looking for the driver who possibly drove off of a cliff and into the ocean. it happened thursday night in san mateo county. according to the sheriff's office a witness saw a red car drive off of highway 1. investigators were able to locate parts of a toyota camry during their search but no body. police say that a 52-year-old named michael of san jose also was reported missing around that same time and he also drives a red toyota camry. well, the verdict is in for a dui crash that happened two years ago in concord. just yesterday a jury found him guilty of two counts of murder. you may recall in 2017 wilson was driving when he crashed into a family car killing two young boys inside.

the alameda county fire department is now taking some heat for a racially insensitive postcard that a fire crew made to commemorate chinese new year. it shows firefighters in chinese rice paddy hats and highlights chinese stereotypes. we now have answers from the chief himself. jody hernandez has this exclusive story. >> it is racially offensive to the entire asian community. >> reporter: that's how members of the asian community are reacting after seeing a chinese lunar postcard made and sent out by an alameda county fire crew. the card shows firefighters wearing rice paddy hats and appears to highlight common asian stereotypes including being too short to reach a ladder and incompetent driving abilities. >> there are many, many things that are extremely offensive and which we feel are not

sharks on another. 53 degrees in san jose. wind speeds about 14 miles per hour, and take a look at the coastal fog. this is that marine layer i was mentioning. fog enthrough half moon bay, santa cruz and even in to parts of hayward which means limited visibility. now today's forecast will be a hot cooler in some spots and in other spots just a few degrees. oakland, 73. san jose topping out in the upper 70s. and in through the interior valley, we'll still get a couple of low 80s, but this is nice change from the 90s we saw last week. 82 degrees in concord, santa rosa at 78. if you're going to be hanging out around san francisco and half moon bay it'll still be party cloudy and a little cool. again, we've got an approaching system just to the south of us. and what that's going to do for the bay area is increase our

cloud cover. we'll get a filtered sunshine appeal today, which means some areas will really notice the increase in cloud cover but we'll still get some sun peeking through. if i fast forward this time line to sunday evening we may get a couple of showers mainly to the far south monterey area. not really concerned about the rain hitting us at least, not even the south bay. but we are seeing that increased cloud cover. as we head towards monday temperatures in the 60s. notice we remain dry and thursday we get a chance of seeing showers make a return thanks to a system bringing some rain not just for san francisco but also inland areas. and notice the cooling trend. again, already under way. today we'll see low 80s, by tomorrow top out in the upper

were shaken from their slumber overnight. that's thank tuesday a 3.5 magnitude quake that hit around 2:30 this morning. we haven't received any reports of injuries or damage, but we did get several phone calls into our newsroom from people in that area. an hours long standoff, s.w.a.t. team standoff in fremont and our sky ranger was overhead yesterday as one of the suspects surrendered. four people are in custody. it all played out at a local hotel. >> reporter: from sky ranger you can see two men coming out at the patio of room 121 at mission peak lodge. the fremont s.w.a.t. team brought this hours long standoff to an end. they did it by attaching a ram device. >> we used a ram to break out

one of the slicing glass windows to force entry into the room. at that point the two subjects inside surrendered peacefully. >> reporter: from outside we could hear police using their loud speakers to talk to the men inside. all of it over a stolen car. patrol officers spotted it in a motel parking lot. they interview one men in the car, he tossed a backpack with a gun inside so they arrested him. and a woman was arrested after officers learned she had a felony warrant. when two men didn't come out or talk to officers they called for backup. >> we believed there may be more farms in the room so we initiated a s.w.a.t. call out. >> reporter: in the end three men and one woman were taken into custody. for guests at the motel it was an hours long spectacle. >> scary. it's like you're seeing something happening in a city

that always has shooting and stuff and, you know, it never happens here. >> reporter: fremont police have not said what charges the four people are facing. he had a vendetta against police. that's how fremont police are describing a man who officers shot and killed last week in front of washington hospital. in fact, the police chief now says they got a warning months ago that the suspect was threatening to kill the first cop he saw. just yesterday police released this dash cam video from the april 18th police shooting that killed michael allen felch. the officer turned around and shot back, hitting felch. a second camera then shows him on the ground wounded. as police ordered him to put his hands up he lunges towards his gun and points at officers. that's when they say they were forced to fire again, killing

him. >> this is a case where our officers were victims of an armed suspect who intentionally tried to ambush them and kill them. >> policesy they received a warning that felch was threatening to kill police. we also spoke with his girlfriend. a san francisco based health startup got raided by the fbi. just yesterday the feds showed up at ubiome, a bio tech company. they broke down the door and asked employees to hand over their computers. the fbi is investigating how the bills health insurers for its special gap health tests. a new report is fanning the flames of controversy after the fire in southern california near thousand oaks in calabasas. efforts to put out last year's fires were hampered by politicians asking firefighters to check on certain homes.

that's the conclusion of an after action review. the report did not name names of the politicians nor expand on the matter. the woolsey fire destroyed nearly 1600 homes and killed four people. now to the number of college students under quarantine as orders continue to grow in southern california. new details on the measles outbreak we first told you about on thursday. health officials ordered more than 800 people at two l.a. universities to be quarantined due to the possible measles exposure. at ucla students and staff were quarantined after an infected student attended class. most of those people have since been released. but over at cal state l.a. hundreds of students were ordered to stay home after possible exposure. >> the activity rate is extremely high for measles. the chance you will get measles in a room with someone who has

measles is somewhere near 90%. >> the cdc says close to 700 measles cases have been reported nationwide this year. the cdc recommends anyone who doesn't know if they've been vaccinated should get vaccinated immediately. turning now to decision 2020. joe biden's first fund-raising numbers are in. the former vice president says he raised $6.3 million in the first day of his campaign. that's the most of any 2020 democratic presidential kanld dt. biden's campaign say the donations came from early from nearly 97,000 people across all 50 states including 65,000 who were not solicited by biden's e-mails. to compare beto o'rourke raised $6.1 million on his first day. bernie sanders raised just under $6 million. and joe biden was one of many topics the president addressed yesterday. president trump touted now numbers showing the economy is surging. the gdp grew at a rate of 3.2%

the allergies have been pretty bad and trees, moderate. grass is very, very high. that's typically what bugs me the most. so take your medication, and you're going to be spending a lot of time-out doors because definitely expect to see that high pollen count. we've got a system just off to the south, and that's bringing that increase in cloud cover. notice around 9:30 we get cloud cover moving up from the south. and even into tomorrow morning we'll keep a lot of that cloud cover. and then you'll notice a couple of areas with pop up showers. we could see a chance of a couple of showers mainly for monterey, though. the southern most areas and mountain areas. if you're going to be driving down southern california you might be catching a couple of showers. now, your microclimate for the next seven days outlook, it's looking good.

i hope your dog isn't watching. she would be so offended. she's adorable. she's 1-year-old and you think just about full-grown? >> yeah, definitely full-grown. >> just 10 pounds, so a perfect little buddy to have. >> she gets along with other dogs. she seems to like kids. she's super friendly. she was following me around out in the offices there. >> i'm giggling because she's like perfectly looking into the camera. >> she knows. >> she's photoogenic. can you keep the flower, i always have to ask. >> yeah, she can. >> so you think just really any home? >> i think any home. she has two other female roommates so she gets along with other dogs. she's a terrier so they're known to have energy, but i think she can do well within an apartment, a house. >> anywhere.

well, for people who maybe aren't ready to adopt just yet, you do have an option of a summer camp. it starts june 10th. so just about a month and some change from now, and it's nine weeks of camps. so parents can put their kids in for four days at a time or more. and it kind of gives the kids an opportunity to be with kids all day without having to take them home. >> and the palo alto camp this year it's our first year, and they have a bay lab. so they're learning about the birds and plants and fish and everything in the bay labs. >> all the kind of ecosystem. because you have your shelter in red wood city and you just took over in palo alto. >> too different campuses they can choose or they can do both. >> and it's $300 per child per session. there's also funding. people can apply for low income family. find about all of it on
