so we send it right back to you. >> new for you this morning, vandals targeting an uber office on the peninsula overnight. "today in the bay" pete suratos joins us in daly city to show us some of the damage. what can you tell us, pete? >> reporter: good morning, laura. the information is a lot a minimum this morning. i reached out to daly city police to get some information from them at some point this morning. you can see the scene from overnight. daly city fire and police are on the scene. as i mentioned, the information is really at a minimum, guys. we did have a camera crew that spoke to an individual that claims they saw the whole incident unfold overnight at this uber office in daly city. here's what he had to say. >> an individual put something down and ran away. a few seconds later, flames went up in the air. i called 911. by the time they got it, it got on basically.

>> reporter: no word if anyone is in custody. if we get any updates we will bring it to you in the newsroom. live in daly city, pete suratos for "today in the bay". thank you, pete. now to the latest on the controversy over the mueller report. the attorney general is threatening to not show up for his testimony this week and could face a subpoena. to find out why, we turned to "today in the bay" tracie potts live on capitol hill. tracie, what's going on here? >> reporter: well, it's more tension between the administration and democrats in congress. in this case the justice department thinks the rules of this testimony are changing. >> i'm committed to -- >> reporter: attorney general william barr is set to testify before the senate judiciary committee wednesday. that's still on. but his appearance before the house judiciary committee thursday may not happen. democrats want to go behind closed doors to ask questions about what was blacked out of

the mueller report on russian election interference. they want to lengthen questioning to 30 minutes per lawmaker and allow lawyers to grill mr. par. a justice spokesperson said only lawmakers should. republicans call the democrats' demands illogical and abusive. >> we want to find out why, one, his summary or cliffnotes version was so different from the facts and, two, why won't he just release the unredacted report. >> reporter: if barr doesn't show up, they will issue a subpoena and use whatever means necessary to enforce it. democrats also want to hear from special counsel robert mueller. republicans are fed up. >> i'm not going to relitigate it. i don't know how clear i can be, margaret. it's over for me. >> reporter: mueller left it to congress to determine if president trump obstructed justice. the attorney general decided to drop it but now may not return

reports that the shooter's gun jammed preventing a far worse tragedy. one survivor believes he may have played a role in halting the rampage. >> i have a very loud voice when i need to be loud. and i yelled at him. and he looked at me. i must have scared him because he dropped his weapon. and he turned and he ran away. >> officers later arrested 19-year-old suspect john t. ernest. three other people including the congregation's ran buy. all are expected to recover. >> happening tonight, a free concert in san francisco to commemorate paris notre dame cathedral, the national landmark is being rebuilt after the devastating fire. grace cathedral will kick off the free event at 6:00 tonight. the building was designed in the same style as notre dame. the symphony as well as opera will perform. that show will feature a special guest, the notre dame organist.

very happy monday. nasdaq opens this morning at an all-time record. alphabet, parent company of google and youtube, reports profits today. new accusations against youtube this morning. an analyst who used to work for youtube said users interested in learning about the mueller report, are being pointed towards video to the kremlin-funded tv. favorable to president trump. and transparency said they recognized it as a authoritative source. youtube said the analysts are not correct and said it could not duplicate the group's results. president trump's candidate for fed governor has apologized for things he has written about women in the past. stephen moore spoke on sunday

up to 65 in san mateo. 58 in engel side. temperatures coming back down as we get a stronger ocean breeze. that will make it feel a little bit more like spring after we had a little bit of summer. a storm system passing just to the south of us. that is where it will stay. you can see how much rain it's bringing and also lightning. as we go into the next several days, this will bring in a chance of rain for the see air ra. we will see another system moving in that will bring in some sierra snow and rain. really crazy to see that on the map as we go into tomorrow, as well as wednesday. if you're planning to go to the sierra, heads-up. you will need to watch out for weather conditions there. here it is just going to stay beautiful. our highs for the inland valleys reaching the low 70s. and then mid-70s for the end of the week. and then going into the weekend, it cools off. we will see a slight chance of rain on sunday. and in san francisco, also

warming up mid week. just a few more depress. up to 70 on wednesday. i'll be watching the sunshine in the forecast. mike, you're getting busier than last week. >> definitely. we can tell, kari, not necessarily because of the number of cars i see, although it is bumping up right now. but the number of incidents reported. fewer cars on the road, fewer people to report issues. we have a number of smaller issues around the bay. and the crash west 80, cutting boulevard, it's over on the shoulder. out of lanes. a little distraction, a little slowing westbound through el cerrito. northbound 238, we see the slowdown as we have the disabled vehicle that's jamming up. it sounds like the slow lane is blocked as you travel off the castro y. critical point in the east bay. south 8830 and davis. another fender-bender reported there. no detail from chp. they're trying to get out. chp definitely busy. west 84, another incident.

5:21. we're learning more this morning about the deadly crane collapse over the weekend in seattle. a college student is among those dead. two iron workers and another person also died when the crane crashed into a busy street. a driver's dashcam caught the collapse. you can see the crane on the upper right-hand side of the screen start to fall. look at it right there. it was being used to help build a new google campus in downtown seattle. meanwhile, cleanup is under way this morning. investigators say it could be months before they determine exactly what went wrong.

all six men rescued from a virginia cave will be okay. they are recovering from hypothermia and exhaustion. a lengthy effort to retrieve them. they all became trapped after they entered on friday with the intention of exploring it over the weekend. heavy rains had them trapped without enough food or water. >> new hurdles on migration. hundreds of refugees in mexico. up to 2,000 migrants. some as far from africa and bangladesh are stuck in mexico near the tkpwaud mal lan border. >> the former attorney of adult star stormy daniels will be arraigned on multiple charges. he's accused of cheating on his taxes and lying to

investigators. avenatti represented daniels after she went public about her alleged affair with the president. meanwhile, federal prosecutors in new york accuse avenatti of trying to ex extort money from nike. the ncaa women's basketball champion baylor bears ditching the traditional green for white as in white house. president trump welcomes the team after its recent victory over notre dame to win the title. this is the third time they have visited the white house since 2005. we have two teams on championship quests right now. a live look at oracle and the shark tank. >> warriors and rockets back tomorrow for game two of the series at oracle. yesterday the warriors found a way not to lose the game one to houston. neither team was really in top form. but k.d. did drop 35 points to lead the dubs 104-100 victory.

roughly 50 miles east of mendocino. we are checking with authorities and watching social media on this one. so far no reports of any damage. >> no question san jose is growing at a furious pace. now leaders want to hear how to improve downtown. >> "today in the bay" bob redell is live in san pedro square. bob, what is the city trying to do here? >> reporter: well, marcus and laura, the city of san jose wants to make the downtown area more vibrant, by creating more space to you to dine and shop. the city wants to change the ordnance that says what kind of businesses should go on the first floor of a building. take this building that you are looking at, putting offices on the second floor and above and putting restaurants and boutiquing on the ground floor where they could give more people more reason to walk around downtown. >> and what we are doing right now is we are expanding the uses

study group when he plowed into peoples walking through a sunnyvale parking lot on tuesday. he attends renewal church which operates at a senior center about a mile away. the church pastor said he is deeply shocked and saddened. in the time that we have known him he's always been very quiet and gentle. our hearts are broken for all those affected by this unspeakable tragedy. >> friend helping to launch a new go fund me to cover medical costs for the youngest victim. this is a photo on the lower right side, a 13-year-old girl. she suffered the worst injuries in the attack. doctors sadly say she is still in a coma. her father and brother were also injured, but her brother is now back at school. a follow-up this morning on the controversy surrounding

santa rosa native jussie smollett. the actor's legal drama is taking yet another turn. according to the chicago sun times, a judge is pushing for a special prosecutor to look into how the case was handled. smollett was accused of a raping a hate crime while posing as the victim. his charges were dropped. a new examiner report suggests city leaders may be considering a big revamp for muni leadership. muni has been taking big publicity hits. supervisors apparently are looking at a lot of possibilities up to and including ousting mta leaders. the changes may also be structural to allow for improved oversig oversight. so far the ideas are only in the talking stages. and there's no timetable for concrete action. in the city, a supervisor and community member plan to fight for more housing for seniors in san francisco today.

earlier crash. that's why folks are slowing down the flashing lights. as you enter off city streets it caused some flowing. how there is a distraction for the main line of the freeway, north 101. that is slow from university. the other side of the bay, things are pretty good as far as the altamonte. big slowdown is north 238. castro valley y. things are moving better as far as the speed sensors go. chp has not had a chance to update the situation. they have cleared one, maybe both of them. i think it was a fender-bender, but no injuries were reported. and the metering lights are on. happy monday. coming off a great weekend, which means looking forward to the next one. >> so we have a nice week ahead. i'm just going to be tracking a chance of rain in the forecast toward the end of the weekend. a look at sunday's forecast. it will be cooler. look how nice and comfortable

our weather will be for the inland areas the next seven days. for san francisco, we have some mid to upper '60s. even hitting 70 degrees by wednesday. starting to come down as we track a storm system moving nearby the region. as we look at squaw valley, going to the sierra this weekend, heads-up that there will be rain moving in especially on saturday and sunday. friday is the dry day of the weekend. if you're going to be in the tri-valley, expect upper 70s on friday. cooling down as we get closer to sunday. and more clouds moving in. once again i will be tracking the chance of rain. for napa, highs in the upper 70s on friday. by saturday, we're reaching 74. i think that's the pick of the weekend. it will be cool on sunday with some upper '60s there and a mix of sun and clouds. if you are planning to go to carmel valley, low 70s on friday. nice weather here. but if you are traveling across

we missed out on our chance of rain. i was hoping we could get at least a little bit of this storm system. it is now moving away and producing some rain. even some thunderstorms just north of l.a. and we're going to see this was moving towards the south and east. another storm system for the sierra bringing in rain and snow tuesday, wednesday. it starts to clear out. we are not looking at any rain here in the bay area. low 70s for the inland valleys. mid-70s mid week. i'll keep you up to date on whether we can squeeze rain drops out of the clouds. >> looking over here. continuing to show you this spot from university avenue.
