peninsula overnight. pete suratos joins under the circumstances us live to show us some of the damage. >> reporter: tkorpgood morning you, laura. we are hoping to get more information from daly city since this information is really at a minimum when it comes to this incident. i want to show you the scene from overnight. daly city police and daly city fire on the scene. as i mentioned, we don't have much info. but we do know this is apparently an uber green light hub building. drivers can activate their account, get help with the yon boarding process and even dealing with car inspections. as we wait to get more information, i want to play sound from a witness calling 911 explaining what he saw the suspect do. here's what he had to say.

>> an individual put something down and ran away. a few seconds later, flames went up in the air. i called 911. by the time they got it, it got on basically. >> reporter: no word if anyone is in custody. if we get any updates we will bring it to you in the newsroom. live in daly city, pete suratos for "today in the bay". thank you, pete. now to the latest on the controversy over the mueller report. the attorney general is threatening to not show up for his testimony this week and could face a subpoena. to find out why, we turned to "today in the bay" tracie potts live on capitol hill. tracie? >> reporter: hi, marcus. good morning, everyone. the justice department reportedly thinks democrats are changing the rules for this testimony. according to a senior democratic aide, the attorney general won't show up. he will be a no-show for this testimony if they try to change the game right in the middle at this point making new demands for that hearing.

>> i'm committed to -- >> reporter: attorney general william barr is set to testify before the senate judiciary committee wednesday. that's still on. but his appearance before the house judiciary committee thursday may not happen. democrats want to go behind closed doors to ask questions about what was blacked out of the mueller report on russian election interference. they want to lengthen questioning to 30 minutes per lawmaker and allow lawyers to grill mr. barr. a justice spokesperson said only lawmakers should. republicans call the democrats' demands illogical and abusive. >> the best person we can hear from is attorney general barr to find out, one, why his summary or cliffnotes version was so different from the facts and, two, why won't he just release the unredacted report. >> reporter: the judiciary chair told cnn, if barr doesn't show up, he will issue a subpoena for the attorney general and use whatever means necessary to enforce it.

democrats also want to hear from special counsel robert mueller. republicans are fed up. >> i'm not going to relitigate it. i don't know how clear i can be, margaret. it's over for me. >> reporter: mueller left it to congress to determine if president trump obstructed justice. the attorney general decided to drop it but now may not return to capitol hill to explain why. of course he is invited to capitol hill to answer questions about the mueller report. the president in a new interview says the only question barr should be answering is how that investigation, the russian investigation got started in the first place. marcus? >> that will be interesting to see how this turns out. tracie, thank you. >> 6:05. in the east bay, an alleged sexual assault at cal. the attack happening on channing way. that victim is a cal student. investigators are not saying exactly where the attack happened.

we will bring you more information when we get it. >> it is 6:05 right now. an outpouring of emotion in southern california following saturday's deadly shooting at a synagogue. ♪ people gathered last night in poway for a vigil honor the people shot during saturday's passover celebration. one woman died, three others injured. authorities looking into witness reports that the shooter's gun jammed preventing a far worse tragedy. nbc spoke with one survivor believes he may have played a role in halting the rampage. >> i have a very loud voice when i need to be loud. and i yelled at him. and he looked at me. i must have scared him because he dropped his weapon. and he turned and he ran away. >> officers later arrested 19-year-old suspect john t. ernest. three other people including the

good morning. right now at 6: 13, we are seeing just a few clouds here and there across the bay area. as you get ready to head out the door in martinez, a nice cool start and a very comfortable day. expect more sunshine in our forecast for the afternoon. we'll talk about what's ahead for the rest of the week in less than five minutes. zoom in here north 101. only one lane at most squeezing by the crash at willow. you see the sign at the bottom of the screen. flashing lights just arrived. that he wants a new tow truck. i hope that's enough to take the second of two cars involved from the scene. no word on any serious injuries. we'll talk about that coming up. the nasdaq opens this morning at an all-time record.

alphabet, parent company of google and youtube, report profits today. and new accusations against youtube this morning. analyst who used to work at youtube said users who are interested in learning more about the mueller report, are being pointed towards this video from rt. that's the kremlin-funded tv channel and its take on the mueller report. rt's take is very favorable to president trump. the watch dog group all go transparency says youtube recommended rt as the thor taeufb source hundreds of thousands of times. youtube said the analyst is not correct and they could not duplicate the rufbg. elon musk and the sec has reached a deal over his tweeting. you may remember he got into trouble for a false tweet about taking the company private. then got in trouble again after agreeing not to tweet financial information. well, the two sides have come up

with a list of things musk should not do without checking with a lawyer first. including don't reveal production or delivery schedules ahead of time. potential mergers and takeover, new product lines that haven't been announced and anything else nonpublic. every investors has the right to get information about a company at the same time. it ought to come from the company not in a 1:00 a.m. tweet to give someone an advantage. this list is pretty obvious. it's a list that every ceo would have in his or her head. you don't generally need to write it down. but in this case they did. president trump's candidate for fed governor has apologized for things he has written in the

the sunrise this morning. it is beautiful across the bay area as we start out on this monday morning. it's chilly as you step out the door. a look at our current temperatures. most live in the low 50s. we have dropped down to 48 in ukiah. it is 56 in oakland. that's the warmest spot in the bay area. on your way out the door, heading to the pleasant hill bart station, 53 degrees. we will have a few clouds in the mix the next couple of hours. but clearing out today. we are in for some sunshine and some nice, comfortable temperatures. early afternoon we will be in the upper 60s. the seven-day forecast is already up at the bottom of the screen. as we take a look at our high temperatures for the south bay. east san jose, expect a high of 72 degrees. 71 in cupertino. up to 74 in danville today. martinez reaching 69. and 65 in hayward today. cool in half moon bay. we'll keep the clouds there. reaching 59 degrees. 68 degrees in redwood city.

and in san francisco looking at the embarcadero reaching 64 degrees. and reaching 71 in novato today. if you're going to the giants game, first pitch 6:45. it will be chilly out there. highs still in the upper 50s. and then cooling down into the mid-50s tonight. so wear your hoodie. if you're on your way out the door and you haven't taken your allergy medication, hraoeere's reminder. we have a moderate amount of tree pollen and high amount of grass pollen. this system spins across southern california. we are seeing that moving away. we will see just partly cloudy skies today and mostly sunny skies for the afternoon. the return of the marine layer, and the coastal fog keeps us cool going into the middle of the week. but check that out. there is going to be some rain

and even high elevation snow tomorrow, early wednesday. if you're going in that direction, heads-up about that. there may be some tricky travel going through the sierra. here we are looking at nice quiet, calm weather. temperatures reaching into the low 70s. mid-70s mid week. and look at the weekend. it's going to be cooling off into the upper six. mike, you are still tracking the crews in menlo park. >> menlo park, east palo alto. jammed up northbound 101. right here there's one fire truck. the lighting has changed and we see that. the tow truck arriving back into the area. hopefully hook up and clear the second of two vehicles involved there. the fire truck is there. no word on any injuries. there must be at least minor injuries. a lot of damage to the two vehicles there. again, this is north 101. a sign for the willow off-ramp. they are exiting the freeway at

test. morning about the deadly ce collapse over the weekend in seattle. a college student is among the dead. two iron workers and another person also died when the crane crashed onto a busy street a driver )s dash cam caught the collapse. you can see the crane on the upper right hand side of the screen start to niece are the corners that the certify will focus on. there's five of them. basically in the san pedro, santa clara, the downtown part of san jose. so there is a meeting tonight if you want this proposed ordnance changed. 6:30 at the mlk library. this is just one of several meetings. by the way, we did ask does this proposed change have anything to do with the proposed google development downtown. the answer is no. reporting live in san jose, bob redell "today in the bay". 6:32 right now. we are learning this morning about the deadly crane collapse over the weekend in seattle. a college student is among the

dead. two ironworkers and another person died when the crane crashed into the street. you can see the crane on the upper right-hand side of the screen there start to follow. look at it right there. this is being used to help build a new google campus. cleanup is under way in seattle right now this morning. investigators say it could be months before they are able to determine exactly what went wrong. a follow-up on the controversy surrounding santa rosa native jussie smollett. the actor's legal drama taking another turn. a retired appellate court judge is pushing for a special prosecutor to investigate how smollett's case was handled. he was accused of arranging a fake hate crime while posings a victim. charges against him were dropped. the judge is asking for the attorney who represented him and smollett appear in court.

speaking out about the man at the center of a suspected hate crime that injured eight people. isaiah peoples was headed to his bible study group when he plowed into people walking through a crosswalk tuesday. he attends renewal church that operates at a senior center a mile from the spot. investigators believe he did it because he believed the people were muslim. the pastor says he is deeply shocked and saddened. he said isaiah peoples first came to our church roughly one year ago. in the time that we've known him, he's always been very quiet and gentle. our hearts are broken for all of those affected by this unspeakable tragedy. 6:35. city leaders may be considering a big revamp for muni leadership. they have been taking big hits, including a massive outage from i that left many commuters stranded. supervisors are looking at a lot of possibilities up to and

what sounds like the fast lane of the on-ramp. the yellow barrels that attenuate speed so people don't get injured in the crashes, it caused a mess. it's over on the right side. it is causing four miles of backup for north 101. in the grand context of things, that's the big spot to watch on 101. 280 is fine. middle field should be all right. it's getting more crowded, as well as the bay bridge toll plaza. >> is this finally everybody is back at school from all these spring breaks in. >> i think so. but we will have graduation for colleges. actually, we have some right now. >> that's coming up. always looking towards the weekend. >> it will be a nice weekend. cooler than this past weekend. inland areas will reach into the upper 60s and a chance of rain by sunday. i'll be watching that for you. meantime in san francisco, a little bit of a warmup as we go into mid week. and upper 60s for saturday.

that the measure is the latest science of a so-called state. a total ban would hurt small businesses the most. supervisors have said they care more about the health of young people than profit margins. they are supposed to vote sometime in the next few weeks. one of the largest hotel chains has a new strategy for taking on part-time rentals. marriott will launch its own version of airbnb who say a recent trial run in europe worked well and will serve as their model. marriott would be the first company to create a home rental platform. 6:44. vallejo police department is under fire and the city is making a new push for community relations. all of this in the wake of a recent string of controversial incidents, including a deadly police shooting in february that can killed a local rap artist. the city manager is inviting the

dodge community relations team to help turn things around. so far the police department has not issued a response. >> 6:44. will the president's attorney general talk to congress? >> and what happens if he doesn't? big questions this week, scott mcgrew. >> attorney general bill barr is scheduled to testify before the house and senate later this week. they want to ask had him why the summary he gave americans about the mueller report in some instances didn't match what mueller wrote or, in the very least, left out incredibly important details. they'll want to know why he did that and why there was such a large gap of time between his original summary and the final release of the redacted report. now, barr now has indicated he may not show up at all. he has issues with the length of time each lawmaker will have to ask him questions and has issues with the plan to allow outside lawyers who aren't members of congress to ask him questions.

here are the top stories on today in the bay-- we begin with a live look at downtown san jose-- happening today-- the city plans to discuss a change aimed at creating more space for you to dine and shop. the proposal would mean high-traffic businesses like restaurants and boutiques would go on the first floor of a building in certain parts of downtown. office space would be pushed up to the second floor and above. these are the corners of the city they )re focusing on. a first meeting to discuss the proposal is at 6-30 tonight at the martin luther king library. a gathering last night in southern california .. for the victims in saturday )s deadly shooting at a poway synagogue. they honored the 4 people who were shot during saturday )s passover celebratio. one woman died. 3 others were injured. officers later arrested 19 year old suspect "john t- earnest." authorities are now looking into reports the shooter )s gun jammd .. preventing a far worse tragedy.

at 7am on the today show: new details about the victims and heroes. more on the emotional vigil last night. and new updates on the investigation. happening tonight-- a free concert in san francisco to commemorate paris ) notre dame cathedral. the national landmark is being rebuilt following a devastating fire. san francisco )s grace cathedral will kick off the free event at six tonight. the building was designed in the same style of notre dame. the city )s symphony and opera will perform. the show will also feature a special guest-- notre dame )s organist "johann vexo." this morning-- investigators are trying to get to the bottom of a gruesome discovery along the coast. deputies found a man )s body floating in the water off half moon bay. this happened sunday near the ritz carlton hotel. right now-- san mateo county sheriff )s deputies are withholding his name until the family is notified. there have been a number of searches for missing persons along the coast recently.

we )ve reported on a popular hih school senior drowning while boogie boarding-- and a san jose man )s car was seen going over a cliff. boeing )s ceo will face shareholders for the first time today since the two crashes that led to the grounding of the 737 max worldwide. the crashes also triggered a number of investigations and lawsuits, and a drop in boeing )s stock. the company is holding its annual meeting in chicago this morning. boeing is under pressure to deliver a software fix and new pilot training for the anti-stall system on the 737 max, to convince regulators and the public the aircraft is safe to fly again. we all know monday morningscan be tough. so - )nbc bay area ) is teaming up with peet )s coffee to help make your mornings a little easier. kris sanchez is live in campbell here to tell you all about it.
