monday, may 6th, 2019. >> announcer: from nbc news, this is "today" with savannah guthrie and hoda kotb, live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. hi, everybody. good morning. welcome to "today." 7:00 a.m. on the west coast on a monday morning. craig will join us in a bit. we have breaking news out of england. the waiting game for the newest royal is over. the duke and duchess of sussex announced this morning on instagram that they have a boy. a beaming prince harry walked out of frogmoor cottage to talk about his son's new arrival. international correspondent keir simmons is at windsor castle, where the waiting has paid off in a big way. hi, keir. good morning. >> reporter: hey, savannah. good morning. i don't know if you can hear behind me, but the bells of st. george's chapel where, of course, george and meghan were married, have begun ringing out.

in a statement, syriaflot says the plane was forced to return to the airport for technical reasons. the russian-made passenger jet has a questionable track record since its first flight in 2008. in 2016, russian regulators grounded the fleet after discovering metal fatigue in one of its planes, a problem usually found in older jets. investigators are now trying to determine what caused this deadly moscow crash. >> this morning, russian investigators say they're looking at three possible causes. inexperienced pilots, equipment failure, or possibly a lightning strike. this is the deadliest accident involving a sukhoi aircraft since 2012, when another jet crashed in indonesia. that was during a sales demonstration. everybody on board was killed. >> tom, you obviously are our aviation expert. another story we saw in the headlines, boeing and a new report that has to do with the 737 max. possibly the company knowing something about safety that happened before the lion air crash last october.
