rideshare drivers are set to strike in the bay area, along with other cities in the country. pete suratos is live for us in san francisco. pete, what are they asking for? >> reporter: yeah, marcus, on that growing list of demands, probably the top demand is calling for better wages. you will see drivers taking part in the strike. the rally will begin in front of uber headquarters where we are standing. i will get into details how the strike will affect drivers. they will log off for 12 hours starting at 12:00 p.m. that's around the time of the rally taking place here. it will end at 12:00 a.m. other drivers with raideshare apps such as list will join in. it could happen at different times lawsuit tthroughout the d. more than 10 cities are taking part, including l.a., which is

holding a 24-hour strike. and new york, drivers are actually striking probably right now. we know those hours will be between 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. during the morning commute hours on the east coast. now, the strike is being planned today for a purpose in the lead-up to uber's initial public offering on friday. it is set for friday. the company is expected to raise $9 billion from investors and to be valued just above $90 billion. here's what i want to show you what drivers are saying. we have a few posts from facebook. calling on drivers to join today's strike. here's what other drivers we spoke to are saying about the current conditions driving for uber. >> they're going to make millions. trillions, even. and here we are, we're trying to survive. that's it. so what better time to go on strike than a time when they are going public. >> well, it's in solidarity for the rest of the drivers in the country. i have enjoyed it. but the rates have constantly

yesterday fell really hard. why? because u.s. trade representative robert light highser said the tariffs were coming for real. the president doesn't always follow-up on his threats. but light highser made it real. also in washington today, members of the ftc will go before the house energy and commerce committee ahead of the big fines headed facebook's concerns. there is concern $5 billion is too small and doesn't sanction zuckerberg personally. and the median pay for all the major tech companies in silicon valley. you would think apple would be up there. $55,426. keep in mind apple is a huge company and employs a lot of people at apple stores. electronic arts, for instance, has a median pay of 96,000.

after that, it starts to warm up quickly at noon, 70 degrees. it looks beautiful outside. we have the blooming trees and the grass, creating a moderate pollen count right now on the scale. looking at our high temperatures today, heading up to 76 degrees. it will be a little bit warmer than it was yesterday. but i still think we can leave the air-conditioning off. antioch today reaching 78 degrees. 69 will be the high in oakland. 77 today in napa with half moon bay staying cool and 58. we have seen a lot of coastal clouds and the marine layer hanging tough, keeping it cool along the coast. tomorrow showers developing over the sierra pushing some of that energy, possibly rain. maybe even a few thunderstorms late thursday night, early friday morning. there still may be lingering showers as we wake up on friday. but then clearing out for the

"the new york post" reports that a one time nxivm slave case. according to the guardian, hopes of a brexit before the eu election are fading. if britain take place in the eu elections it would come at a cost of $150 million. people who live in and around houston, texas are bracing for another day of heavy rain. >> in some cases inches of rain fell in less than an hour's time. a massive sinkhole formed in kingwood, north of houston. students at a nearby school had to sleep on campus overnight due to the conditions. a lot of schools in the area will be closed today. >> it's 5:25. new this morning, amanda knox is returning to italy for the first time since being convicted and later acquitted in the murder of her roommate.

we even see flashing lights heading past the toll plaza. that was just because the light was interrupted by the rigs. the approach to the maze, no slowing and no problems reported. i'll follow-up with any other reports from chp. mild slowing in through pittsburg and bay point. also it looks like recovery. 238 northbound, approaching 880, we saw a good amount of slowing. the crash off on the right shoulder. so it looks like initial activity has calmed down. be careful. that is a distraction at a critical time. heading into hayward. it is counter commute north 680 approaching the cut to livermore, highway 84. i'll again check the area. sometimes we have crews that cleared south of there that may be a bigger issue. unexpectedly slow. a little bit of a counter commute. crews did all clear from palo alto. things moving nicely. we can continue on. the peninsula without any problems.

no delays reported for the systems. note with all the activity at the oakland coliseum and the arena tonight, a's and warriors take bart as an option. in the south bay, remember the sharks are playing, too. so much activity. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. it is 5:31 right now. this is so sad. another attack at another school. this time outside of denver. just moments ago we found out more about yesterday's mass shooting. a news conference just wrapped up with investigators. we know that one of the suspected shooters is a female student. originally they believed both shooters were male. the two suspects were not taken into custody together. pistols were used. gunfire was not exchanged with the suspects. police are not releasing a motive behind the attack in which one student was killed. we know three of the injured victims still remain in intensive care this morning. the other five victims are out of the hospital.

in the meantime, classes at that school remain canceled this morning. police say 18-year-old devon ericsson and a female student walked into the school and shot their classmates in two separate locations. also new this morning, we are hearing from a witness who is inside one of those classrooms. the family members identify the student at kendrick castillo. >> the next thing i know he's pulling a gun and telling nobody to move. and that's when kendrick lunged at him, and he shot kendrick, giving all of us enough time to get underneath our desks to get ourselves safe and to run across the room to escape. >> imagine their horror. deputies arrived, managed to stop the shooting within minutes.

city leaders have approved a massive pothole repair plan. while two self-pro claimed pothole vigilantes may not get the attention pp stkpwhrr oakland is known to have some of the worst roads in the country. now there is a three-year plan to fix a lot of roadways and perhaps cost drivers a lot less mon money. they can be expensive when you hit them with their car. it will be fixes by the so-called pothole vigilantes who have been filling gaping roadways. mayor libby shafchaff's budget. 75% of funds 20 repairs.

that video shows the shooting of ronell foster 15 months ago by a vallejo police officer. police say the confrontation started when the officer tried to stop foster on his bike .. and quickly escalated. the officer only activated his body-camera after shooting tried to stop foster on his bike and quickly escalated. he only activated body or camera video after foster was shot and claimed foster grabbed his flashlight. that's just one of the issues leaving foster's family outraged. they as well as their attorney plan to talk about that video later this morning. they also plan to talk about the officer who shot foster who they believe was also involved in the controversial deadly police shooting of a man earlier this year at a fast food drive-through. 5:38. one city taking a big step to recognize the lgbtq community. walnut creek voted unanimously to raise the rainbow flag for

fighting a massive fire in chino. the flames are three stories high and cover the size of a football field. they are trying to protect livestock and surrounding buildings. the fire is so big, crews plan to let it burn out. that could take several days.
