good to be with you this monday morning. i'm frances rivera >> and i'm marlie hall rain across the southern u.s. has been relentless in recent weeks. the severe weather caused flooding across mississippi and has brought record-breaking rainfall to louisiana, texas, and alabama. major cities across the south have been impacted by flash flooding, tornadoes, and other dangerous conditions for more on this we go to nbc's tammy leitner. >> reporter: this latest storm system pounding the south. >> look at that. >> reporter: from tornadoes to unrelenting rain the system already wreaking havoc across six states, with more than a foot of rain from texas up to kansas and down to louisia louisiana, bringing record-breaking rainfall to the state in the month of may and dangerous flooding louisiana declaring a state of emergency. dramatic rescues in a neighborhood in mississippi.

court. she's agreed to plead guilty for her part in the college admissions scandal the "desperate housewives" star admitted to paying $15,000 for a proctor to change her daughter's answers on the s.a.t.s, improving the girl's score in a statement she wrote, "i accept full responsibility for my actions and will accept the consequences that stem from those actions. legal experts say her swift apology may work to her advantage. >> felicity huffman is like many white-collar defendants who are in trouble for the first time. she's racing to court to plead guilty, cooperate with the government, get the lowest sentence possible, and just move on with her life >> reporter: she's among the dozens of prominent parents charged with paying big bucks, in some cases hundreds of thousands of dollars, to get their kids into selective schools. while some parents have agreed to plead guilty, actress lori loughlin and her fashion designer husband are not among them >> this is government prosecution 101.

leading the news, a police officer in savannah, georgia has died in an officer-involved shooting 50-year-old sergeant kelvin ansari was shot on saturday night. he and another officer were responding to a follow-up on a previous robbery call. police say when officers approached the suspect shots were fired both officers and the suspect were injured sergeant ansari and the suspect both died at the hospital. the other officer was treated and released ansari was a ten-year veteran of the police department and a father of four city leaders say the community lost a great man an american airlines pilot was dragged off a plane m kentucky and arrested. 51-year-old christian martin was charged in connection with the cold-blooded triple homicide of his former neighbors the bodies of pamela phillips and edward dancero were found in a charred car left behind in a corn field calvin phillips was found shot
