bay area early tomorrow. so more on the timeline coming up. and fog may affect some of the drivers. >> a great note, kari. it shows up on the road weather index on the north bay, up in nova novato, north of 37. that may be a factor for the early morning commute. right now everything else registering as a clear drive. down to 580 is just fine. 580 itself sees slowing in both directions. it is starting to clear out of the altamonte. a peek at our crew over here across willow. and then maybe traffic breaks as they start to clear the next half hour. back to you. >> all right. thanks, mike. happening now, hundreds of east bay teachers locked in a bitter labor dispute are walking off the job. this is leaving parents and students concerned about the education of those children. just as the school year is about to wrap up. >> bob redell joins us live in union city to tell us what we can expect in just a couple of

hours. bob? >> reporter: well, laura and marcus, classes will go on here at logan high school and other schools here in the new haven unified school district. but their teachers won't be there as they will be going on strike at 7:00 a.m. the union that represents the roughly 600 teachers in this district announced earlier this month they would take to the picket lines even in spite of efforts yesterday about both sides to come to an agreement on a new contract that clearly failed. the district's 12 schools will remain open by using substitute teachers and admin staff to teach. it will be enrichment based day, not the typical lesson plan. the stumbling blocks on agreement is teacher pay>> we are confident that the money is there to have the package that we described. but the biggest changes that these administrators must know is to change their priorities>> the district did move. we did add some language that

gives the teachers an ongoing raise if some money from the state comes through. my understanding is that the nhta did not move. >> reporter: they are demanding a 10% raise this year and the next. they initially asked for 20%, but they came down. the current offer would cost more than $20 million. the district is offering 3% this year and 1% next year. you heard the spokesman say an additional ongoing raise based on state funding. the district did tell us they are proud. its teachers are the highest paid here in the county. no word on how long the strike will last. but the district says they hope they can get teachers back in the classroom before the end of the kwraol skier, around mid-june. reporting live in union city, bob redell, "today in the bay". and the end of the school year coming quickly.

thank you, bob. graduations are already in full swing. but this weekend's weather did not mix well with plans. cal state east bay graduates had to adjust from 10:00 in the morning to 5:00 last night. because of that, they didn't see the loved ones in the stand. that includes this student's biggest supporter, her father, who had to work>> its su. >> the rain held off and graduates took to the stage to finally bask in the glow of their achievements. the bay area has a chance to dry out today. this is after the late storm in may caused spinouts, crass, and a lot of dangerous conditions for drivers. >> we report on the problems from san francisco to lake tahoe. >> reporter: this system dumped snow in the sierra, making plenty of work for crews in squaw valley, so much the resort

will stay open until july. the storm triggered one funnel cloud spotted near discovery bay. and of course the persistent rain made for what seemed like an obstacle course for drivers. no injuries in this crash. rohnertpark, landed in a pond. >> the woman said because of the darkness and the rain she missed the opening to the pond on the street she was driving on as the next street. >> reporter: the woman had two children with her. she said police arrived minutes later. >> the cops jumped in and got the kids. one of the neighbors in the neighborhood was taking his shoes off and helping to get them out. >> reporter: it was an unexpected rescue effort in a pond that's five feet deep. >> the kids had to jump out of the car, get into the water. and then the cops asked them to

weather and traffic in just a moment. some people may be waking up sore this morning. especially if they did a personal best in bay to breakers. it brought out tens of thousands of people. runners and walkers took off from the e ponchos were more adventurous. we see fairies, dinosaurs and some in shorts and t-shirts. >> tyrannosaurus. >> it's a race? >> we are in between the rain right now. it has been really busy here for it to be the middle to end of may. we are still talking about rains, storms, and sierra snow. a live look at palo alto. it will be nice to get a little

bit of sunshine today. and we'll see that peeking out as we go late morning, throughout the day. temperatures will stay on the cool side. reaching into the mid-70s. today we will mostly stay in the 60s. high temperatures in antioch reaching 67 degrees. 67 also in san jose. 65 will be the high in napa and in san francisco reaching 60 degrees.ing throughout that for it will be a cooler day. and it's going to start out very chilly. feels like winter outside. so wear a nice warm coat to start out today. breezy winds. but with the sun it will be nice to break out the sunglasses. as we check out what's happening now, nice and quiet on satellite and radar. once again, a dry start. we are also looking ahead to our next storm. it has been developing and continues to move fairly quickly toward the bay area. we could start to see the rain as early as late tonight for the north bay. here we are at 8:30. we see scattered showers moving

pack in and off and on rain by 1:00 in the morning. we are seeing some of the rain making it into parts of the east bay, the peninsula. and it will be approaching the south bay. going into tomorrow, it's just off and on with the rain and even the potential of some thunderstorms once again because it has been so cold in the upper parts of the atmosphere. that makes it very unsettled. we could also out. all the rain pushing to the south. by wednesday, mostly dry. but there still will be rain chances in the forecast. this next round of rain won't be as heavy as we've seen, but bringing anywhere from a tenth to a quarter inch, up to a half inch in the north bay and spots like ukiah. and it's going to be off and on with the rain. look at this. pretty much every other day there will be a chance of rain in the forecast. at least it will warm up going into the weekend. rain chances will be lower. we will have to watch for the nearby storm systems that could

bring us rain chances. going into saturday, yes, there will be a chance of rain once again. i'll keep you up to date on that. mike, now you're tracking a new crash. >> i am, kari. clear sensors. fog registering in the north ine that. a couple spots north santa cruz. toward lexington hills, a report of a crash blocking the slow lane, the right lane. stay over toward the center divide, move smoothly through the area. so far the freeway is open and southbound away from us. heading toward the bay bridge, no delays. no problem for any travel times through the maze, east shore freeway. backup very mild for a couple of cash lanes. folks approaching on the right approach also slowing. either side still has one lane that has to open for the morning. we should see that. fog on the north bay. it's not showing up in san
