gas emissions. they are looking to partner up with a new scooter company after lime opted out of its agreement. some are waking up to a dez str desperate situation. a dozen tornados touched down from texas to missouri. thiss what folks had to deal with there. the tornado threat remains active today. yesterday many homes had windows blown out, roofs ripped off, and floors flooded in parts of oklahoma. the storms left thousands without power. since last friday, more than 80 tornados have touched down in the southern plains. >> that was actually the storm we had on sunday. now that it has moved off to the east, it has picked up a lot more energy and still producing the tornado threat we can see in parts of oklahoma and near dallas right now. we have a new storm moving in that is producing some light

spotty rain for you this morning as you get ready to head out the do door. for the most part, most of the bay area not seeing any rain right now. you want to be prepared for that. at any point today, we could see showers and thunderstorms later today. the roads are still wet in the peninsula. south bay, even parts of the east bay. we have seen rain moving through. i will keep an eye on that. we will talk about the day ahead in a few minutes. there is a steady build at the bay bridge. >> that's right. lighter rain, drizzle, trickle. the roadways may be damp. over here we have more than a trickle. a steady stream building at the bay bridge. damp roadways with the sheen and the movement in the lanes starting to slow down. we see that getting ready for the metering lights. crash west 80 at howell has not proven to be a problem. no slowing at the berkeley curve. at most just distraction.

"the wall street journal" looked at immigration numbers and said the number of chinese engineers hired for high-tech jobs here in america has fallen significantly. the slowdown is due to new rules and new restrictions from washington. the government's concern not limited to chinese as the foreign workers learn a lot about how we make technology, and the feds treat jobs the same way they treat industrial secrets. a new study from deutsche bank said san francisco has the highest salaries in the world. the average brings in $6,500 a month. san francisco replaces zurich, switzerland as the top story. san francisco, which the report insists on calling san fran for some reason, works to 80,000 a years. third is new york city, average salary $4,600. boston, chicago, and then sydney, australia the top

the snow coming down steadily in the sierra. if you're traveling, heads-up. you want to check the road conditions. there may be chain controls going up. as we bring it back home, get a closer look, we had rain that was heavy for a few minutes that moved through san jose. so everything is still wet. a little bit of a soggy start for some. we haven't seen as much of that rain in the north bay. we can see there are some showers just to the north of you. we will be watching that moving in over the next several hours. our hour-by-hour outlook shows

at 8:30, scattered rain moving through, very hit or miss. for the east bay, it starts to move in a little bit later this morning. and we may all take a break during the early afternoon hours. but then that is also when some of the showers that do develop may produce thunderstorms. we'll be watching out for that. and then going into tonight, still showers over the santa cruz mountains, parts of the south bay. even the north bay will have a slight chance of rain later tonight. as dry air sweeps north to south, we see things drying out. it will be another slight chance on thursday. our overall rainfall totals will be very light. you may pairly get anything like we're seeing in martinez. while you head up to ukiah, a half inch of rain. a quarter inch for the south bay. so it's just where some of the heavier showers tend to move through. as we check out the sierra, more light snow falling between now and the weekend. we get a couple more disturbances moving through.

the anti-abortion bans in other straits are certainly making the biggest headlines. but there are local impacts we could see here, including a loss of federal funding because of some trump administration policies. santa clara county supervisor cindy chavez said the county could lose federal family planning grant money because of the new rule banning clinics from performing abortions in the same place. the county will get an update on the local impact at 9:00 this morning. then at noon. all of these so-called stop the bans rallies in the bay area will join in with a nationwide movement. in san jose, folks will gather at city hall and also at win chester and stevens creek. at noon, a gathering at san francisco city hall, oakland's grand lake theater. at the same time, folks will gather at the embarcadero and el camino real. santa rosa, the rally is tonight.

the fbi is investigating another school. four threats were reported the last three weeks at cal high. campus leaders now plan to install more surveillance cameras. for a second time in four days, a race horse has died at southern california's santa anita racetrack. this marks the 25th horse death since december. some say the heavy rains may have played a role. one track owner brought in experts to test the soil. but no problems were found. 5:46. . the white house has blocked the testimony of one of its attorneys. there is growing push, laura, to use impeachment to strengthen congress's hand in investigating what's going on at the white house. remember, president trump has vowed to fight every subpoena, especially subpoenas that have

not yet been issued. former white house counsel don mcgahn will not talk to congress. mcgahn was the prime witness in the mueller investigation. he's already shared details from inside the oval office. after the mcgahn decision, nbc has learned a late night meeting among democrats with nancy pelosi pushing for impeachment. the idea being less about pushing the president out, more about strengthening the ability to show up and testify. the democrats in favor of impeachment are really making this subtle point here. remember impeachment by the house doesn't throw you it out of office. the democrats are saying let's impeach to investigate. we don't have to send the case to the senate. speaker pelosi so far has resisted those calls to begin

a shower moving across parts of the east bay. we can see the direction of the rain moving from the northwest to the southeast. so we get a closer look to see what of the rain that just moved through hayward, fremont, and about to approach some of the hills. as we go throughout the day, some rain will be passing. but there may be a few breaks. at noon, most live cloudy skies. just a couple of spotty showers. going throughout the rest of the day, slight thunderstorm chances. we start to see a little bit more energy working up across the bay area. and then by tonight we still have some off and on rain moving through. but then that will start to taper off tonight. rain totals are going to be very low compared to the rain we have had recently. this is about what we normally see out of storm systems, especially this late in may. we may get up to a half inch in uki ukiah. santa rosa barely measuring anything. it will be where the scattered showers pass through and produce

cancer before a radiologist. scientists from northwestern and google train their computer system to assess long nodules without human involvement. this form of artificial intelligence was a to identify cancer with 94% accuracy. in fact, the model was often more accurate than experts. researchers say the findings need to be confirmed, however, with larger studies. >> an update out of the north bay. people flying into santa rosa can now use uber once they arrive. drivers have always been allowed to make dropoffs. up until this week the ride-sharing service was forbidden to picking up passengers due to no formal deal between the drivers and the airport. nbc bay area responds to a san jose family saddled with a huge medical bill. >> the problem they say insurance wasn't paying as promised. here's chris chmura. good morning.

when mavis and james shirley were told their son needed surgery that would cost $30,000, they got their ducks in a row. >> we did obtain a preapproval letter from aetna prior to the surgery. we were expecting aetna to pay us their portion. >> but after the approved surgery, aetna only paid about $3,600 of the $30,000 surgery. the shirleys fought with aetna nine months and then turned to us. they got a check for $26,335. aetna told us, we apologize to the shirley family for improperly processing their claim and any in convenience this may have caused. the error affected our error. you can't always plan out major medical procedures. but when you can, like a scheduled surgery, we suggest you contact your insurance company first. get preapproval in writing. then check back with your doctor and hospital to make sure
