pushing through parts of the east bay, as well as the south bay. i'll keep an eye on a few lingering showers for your commute. mike, you're tracking the roads and you still have road work. . >> we had the rain, sprinkles overnight. still on the roadways, slowing 580 to highway 13, golf links where we have patches that do block a few lanes. paving work in the altamonte pass. we see a little bit of moisture and maybe slicker roadways as well. no major problems. there is some radar activity. a new crash on 680 around mckee. i'm tracking the crash. so far no slowing. water kicking up behind the folks in san hjose. a show of solidarity as the strike in hayward and union city enters the third day. >> this is the first ever strike for new haven school district.

this is ahead of the school board meeting. classes are still going on. but the district says attendance numbers, extremely low. "today in the bay" bob redell will have a live report in the next hour. >> authorities in two cities now investigating two separate crimes targeting elderly women. the first case in san francisco reportedly involves a man set to appear in court today. he is accused of kidnapping and sexual assaulting a 74-year-old woman in his home near john mcclaren park. he held the woman captive for five hours on may 10th. in that time, a dog at the home also aing taed the victim. investigators say he then dumped the woman on the sidewalk, where she was found semi conscious. in the meantime, palo alto looking for two teenagers who broke into an elderly woman's home and took her jewelry. the robbers also stole money and the jewelry worn by the victim and her car. new details on an incident

you may remember. it included shocking video of a woman being dragged by a muni train in san francisco. that woman is now filing a claim against the city. it incident happened last month at the embarcadero station. you can see her getting stuck in the door, the train taking off, dragging her onto the track. she suffered broken ribs, collapsed lung and spinal fractures >> a man was caught by cameras waving a fake gun is set to appear in court. this is sunday at the jamba juice. he claimed to be an undercover police officer, showed the fake gun off at two separate times. the other incident occurred the same day at hillsdale. >> a cal student is due back in court for a plea hearing. investigators say he grabbed, punched and bit two different

women before sexual assaulting them. the first attack happened in 2017. and then the second one just two months ago. both happened on frat row. >> amid the ongoing abortion rights debate, one bay area lawmakers wants to ban city funded travel to the strict new abortion laws. >> and halt any business with it. nbc bay area has the details on that, plus the protests happening coast to coast. >> reporter: hundreds protested in front of the supreme court. >> my body, my choice! >> women should have the right to do with their bodies what they want to do with their bodies. >> reporter: demonstrations demonstrated nationwide, including san francisco on a growing number of cities to restrict abortion rights. performing the procedure in alabama would be a felony at any stage of pregnancy with close to no exceptions. governors in georgia, missouri, mississippi and ohio have approved to ban abortions after

six to eight weeks of pregnancy. >> you have all of these states that are having abortion bans over six weeks. i mean, most women don't even know they're pregnant at six weeks. >> reporter: san francisco supervisor brown is proposing a ban on any city funded travel or business with 20 states that restrict a woman's access to abortion. she will propose it in two weeks. . >> san francisco, we have a huge economy. we do business all over the country. all over the world. if we say no to those kind of practices then, you know, hopefully it will get their attention. los angeles county approved a similar ban yesterday. >> 4:35 right now. if the clogged up commute on san jose streets is getting you down, you have a chance to vent your frustrations don't. city transportation leaders host a special forum at the berryessa

good morning. i'm frank holland at cnbc headquarters. wall street is set to open modestly in the red. yesterday's stocks rose with the dow up 200 points. tech shares led the way after the u.s. government temporarily eased restrictions on huawei allowing companies to keep selling equipment to that company at least for a few more months. that's easing worries over the trade war between the u.s. and china. the minutes from last month's fed meeting, and earnings from lowe's and target. tesla cut the base price for two of its most expensive vehicles. $71,250 for the model s while the model x suv $79,950, 2,000

less than before. they do not include tax credits for electric vehicles. they will not saying whether slowing demand played a role. the company stock has slumped 50% since last summer. the future is here now. ford teamed up with a robotics company to develop a two-legged delivery robot. digit will unfold itself, grab the package and walk right up to your door. it can navigate stairs, uneven train and getting bumped without losing its balance. a lot of people think this is scary, marcus and laura. i know in your mansion you have a robot butler. so it's nothing new to you. >> frank, on behalf of all of us here on "today in the bay", congratulations to you. you just earned your mba. >> thank you. you guys are fantastic.

very good wednesday morning to you. this is a live look at the fremont area. expecting some clearing when it comes to the forecast. hopefully the commute will cooperate as well. we'll check in with mike in just a moment. quarter to 5:00. forget wishing upon a shooting star. some people may have been blinded by a fireball in australia last night. do you see it there? a bright light believed to be a meteor. it was captioned on camera shortly before midnight. there was a piece of space dust about the size of the marble that entered the atmosphere. what an entrance, right? >> i'm here. >> "game of thrones" is over.

>> oh, let's not continue that. >> it is not a dragon, as far as we know. . >> to follow up with the skies, wet stuff. >> yesterday was pretty busy, especially during the afternoon. now we are seeing things quieting down. cool temperatures left behind the storm system that moved through. low 50s in livermore. 55 in oakland and palo alto. 47 in santa rosa. starting in the south bay, we check out high temperatures. up to 70 today in san jose. now that the rain is starting to move out, we will get some clearing and also some warmer air. up to 77 in concord today. and danville reaching also 77 degrees. keeping it cool for half moon bay and daly city reaching 59 degrees. san francisco and the embarcadero, up to 64 degrees for a high. up to 74 today in sonoma. checking out those temperatures that will be feeling much nicer compared to the way we started

this week. so looking at what's happening now, still some showers across the region. as we head to the south bay heading out the door in san jose, hearing the rain right there along 101. it will be soggy heading out the door. as we go down 101, it's lining right up with the highway and seeing the rain for morgan hill and on into san jose. this is the last little batch of rain moving through. for the rest of the bay area, it is starting to clear out. going through the forecast today, expect mostly sunny skies. and then by tomorrow, i'm watching some of the showers, possibly some thunderstorms over the sierra making it into parts of the sacramento valley. and that could start to make its way into parts of the east bay. but it looks like we will keep the rain just off to our east and then going into the weekend, there will be storm systems moving through the sierra. it will bring light rain chances.

overall, it looks pretty dry for us. not expecting a lot here. we will have our temperatures warming up and skies clearing. it's going to be very nice. but notice that it will be cooler. and going into memorial day, a slight chance that some of the rain could make it in. put that in your memorial day plans to make sure you have shelter nearby if you plan on going out and tkpreulg or going out to some of the memorial day ceremonies. >> the blotter only really talking about overnight road work. yes, there was overnight road work even though there was rain. think about the folks working hard even when it's not great weather. great drive getting over to the bay bridge. vasco road. a little bit of rain remains at 580. paving work going on westbound as well. travel through the tri-valley leaving slicker conditions and the road weather index shows you slippery conditions 680 at

mckee. the crash may be sticking out in the fast lane. stay over to your right on 680 past mckee. rain on 101, san martin, morgan hill, san jose, watch the area between there heading towards the south bay. fremont shows a glow. things have dried out on the lens here. smooth drive on the peninsula. we have the crews starting to clear. slowing you down. a traffic break 101 at willow. back to you. thanks, mike. 4:49 right now. how did a new multimillion dollar private school wind up next to a concrete plan we have been looking to the concerns, those health concerns stemming from the concrete plant which is right next door to the school in fremont. the parents tell us it's safe but the parents and kids are safe. she said the business has been there more than 30 years without any problems. >> reporter: what was your

reaction when the school told you it wanted to build just next door. >> i was a little surprised. we're clearly an industrial site. trucks coming in and out, noise, distractions. it wouldn't be my location pick. >> reporter: it didn't make sense to you? >> it didn't make sense to me. >> it makes me nervous. >> reporter: nervous why? >> because it might make me sick. >> two different government agencies were involved in the process to get the school built next door. that decision was made in part on wrong information. let's watch the full investigation. logon to nbcbayarea.com/weinvestigate. have you seen the video of this crazy police chase? it happened last night in southern california. chp says officers tried to stop the rv at 7:20 last night in santa clarita. the chase wound through the san fernando valley. it involved six crashes.

tough to watch the video. a dog appearing to jump out or fall out of the motor home. the good news, the dog is okay. the driver slammed into another car, then took off running with another dog following. officers soon arrested the suspect. at least three people were injured. the suspect has not been identified so far. well, a familiar sight returning to point reyes. yes, it is calling a familiar response from rangers. elephant seals are starting to show up at the beach. that is forcing rangers to close the beach. some visitors say they understand but they're disappointed. >> yeah. we're very disappointed. pause we were here a couple months ago and there were seals there. we thought by now we could take our dogs on the beach. we thought they would be gone, actually. >> the seals took over the beach

and good wednesday morning to you. a live look now out on palo alto. you can see cars on the roads right now getting started with their day. mike inouye will track the commute coming up in just a bit. it's 4:55 for you right now. nbc bay area responds to an east bay woman who says new her dishwasher flooded part of her home. >> she asked consumer investigator chris chmura's team to help clean up the mess with the installers. >> they bought a dishwasher for their castro valley home back in august. they hired a crew from best buy to install it for them. well, a month later the couple found water damage in the kitchen. they say it was coming from the dishwasher because it was leaking. it was soaking the floors, the walls, and the base cabinets.
