"today in the bay" continues right now. a very good morning to you. thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. first, we want to start out with the forecast. meteorologist kari hall has been tracking the storms. they have been coming and going. it was busy yesterday. things are starting to calm down. still a few lingering showers. here's a look at the radar. most of the bay area seeing dry weather. in the south bay, the rain is affecting or may affect your drive to work on highway 101 coming up from south san jose and also south county where

showers are still lingering. >> you have the only activity on the map systems we share. the roadways all green. damp roadways on the bay. 580 does move smoothly. bottom of your screen. a new crash reported somewhere around 101, 85 split. wait until chp gets there to give us detail. rain traveling north san martin to morgan hill. no pros in the santa cruz mountains. 5:01. developing right now in san francisco, neighbors are shocked after a gruesome discovery. a man's dismembered body found inside a home. pete suratos live at the scene in the outer mission. pete, what are you learning about all of this out there this morning? >> reporter: well, marcus, police came out to the outer mission to check up on an

elderly man. in the process, they found human remains inside a home. in fact, we have a -- sfpd is still here in san francisco as we work to get more information on this. but according to sfpd they were called out to dell monty street on monday morning to check on 73-year-old benedict chan. there was a funny smell come willing from the home. at that point they began a criminal investigation. that's when they found human remains inside the home, which were recovered. sources found a body dismembered inside and a bloody saw. that's what sources are telling us. it is still an ongoing investigation. the medical examiner is identifying the remains to determine the cause of death. if you have any information to help with the case, contact sfpd. live in san francisco, pete suratos, "today in the bay".

thank you, pete. on capitol hill, president trump and the nation's top two democrats are trying to set aside their differences. they are meeting to discuss a deal on infrastructure. many expect all the talk about investigations and impeachment to quickly resume after. craig boswell in washington this morning. he joins us with the details. good morning, craig. >> reporter: laura, good morning. good morning, everyone. democrats are talking infrastructure and impeachment. they have issued two new subpoenas for former white house staffers. kraupl belling roads and bridges are the topic for president trump and the nation's top two democrats this morning. it's their second meeting on a $2 trillion infrastructure plan to fix up roads, pour grids and improve broadband internet. but construction talk quickly gives way to robert mueller's russia report. >> witnesses must show up.

our subpoenas are not optional >> reporter: the president ordered ex white house cancel don mcgahn to snub a i meeting wednesday. the president's former communications director hope hicks and donaldson, former chief of staff. the no-show is a breaking point for many democrats frustrated be the president's stonewalling. >> yes. there was an impeachment inquiry, i would support it. >> reporter: there is pressure on nancy pelosi to begin impeachment proceedings. . >> under the constitution one of the purposes would be to see if you want to go down the path of impeachment. there are other purposes as well. . >> yeah. look, you know my view. the case is closed. >> reporter: the president weighing in saying democrats are on a fishing expedition. now about five new tweets this

morning on the russian investigation. speaker pelosi is holding a closed door meeting in an hour. she will get a lot of talk about impeachment. laura, back to you. thank you, craig. 5:04. facial recognition technology is making headlines again. law enforcement officers have been under pressure to answer how to use it. now one of the biggest tech companies in the world is under the spot late. kris sanchez joins us live from san jose with what is happening with amazon's day. kris >> reporter: investors are meeting today. amazon will feel a lot of pressure to stop selling facial recognition technology to law enforcement and other deposit agencies. shareholders proposed they stop sales altogether. and the company study the

effects and then report back. aclu is urging to disclose who buys the software and how it is used. amazon is saying recognition is a powerful tool for business. >> we have almost 2 million people here. we owe them privacy. we need to respect their due process. we can use them in a careful and narrowly crafted way. >> reporter: in case you are keeping score, already san francisco banned the use of facial recognition technology. oakland seems it is headed down the same road. a house committee will talk about facial recognition technology today in washington, d.c. certainly a lot of eyes are watching all of that recognition technology. kris sanchez, "today in the bay". thanks so much for that

update. 5:06. police in danville are hoping you may know who these people are. take a look at your tv screen. all four wanted in connection with a series of recent car break-ins. they targeted cars parked around mcgee ranch park. you are asked to call danville police if you know who they are. >> seeking justice for the wrongfully convicted in contra costa. they will reexamine cases where there are, quote, significant integrity issues. it is the first of its kind. they will review policies to stop wrongful convictions before they ever happen you can weigh in on plans for an east bay parking lot extension. tri-valley transit leaders are consideringunding a and scheduling a plan to extend bart service.

it would use similar cars as the 10. there are proposed stops in greenville in livermore. a public meeting is set for 6:00 tonight at the livermore community center. the recent spring storms have dozened of people looking for a new home this morning. these 35 units at an apartment complex are now deemed unsafe due to damage from rain and hail. one of the units left with a gaping hole. you see it in the roof. several people are allowed to move into undamaged units. >> we thought we were one of the lucky ones that didn't have to move. out of nowhere, we have to move. . >>er they are trying to bring more resources to help. a shelter is being set up to help the people displaced. that's a tough one. kari, storms in our area causing damage as well. >> we had a lot of rain and hail recently. so everything is looking much

mike traffic tease good wednesday morning. right now at 5:13, we are starting to see weather clearing out. it will be a beautiful day. make plans to get outside. in concord, a cool start. low 50s as you walk out the door. but then upper 60s at noon. and we will see the highs reaching into the 70s today. doesn't get any better than that. we'll take a look at our holiday weekend forecast coming up in less than five minutes. and the peninsula looks great. picking up a little volume. looks like a lot of activity. really the bright lights on the overcrossing there at willow, but not a major problem. we'll show you how things shape up at the bridges coming up.

good morning. frank holland at cnbc headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. wall street set to open up in the red yesterday. tech shares led the way after the u.s. government eased restrictions on chinese giant huaw huawei. allowing companies to keep selling equipment to that company at least for a few more months. that's easing worries over the trade war between the u.s. and china. the minutes from last month's fed meeting, and earnings from lowe's and target. tesla cut the base price for two of its most expensive vehicles. $71,250 for the model s while the model x suv $79,950, 2,000 less than before. they do not include tax credits for electric vehicles. tesla made the cuts on monday but they will not saying whether slowing demand played a role. the company stock has slumped 50% since last summer.

for a little while, a little while. we have some sunshine coming up. that he wants a look live from san bruno mountain camera as we start to get our sun rising on this wednesday morning. a beautiful day. getting you out the door in brentwood. morning drive, 52 degrees. i had to turn on the heater for a little while inside the car and then going throughout the day. it will be nice. rolling the windows down. sunglasses on. temperatures warm to the upper 60s. i am so congested this morning. i'm like, what is going on. it is mostly tree pollen. now we are seeing a moderate amount of mold. if you are allergic to those things, as well as grass pollen, it is still really bad out there in terms of the allergy season. our temperatures today heading into the low 70s, morgan hill, 73 for the high. a high of 75 in walnut creek. hayward today reaching 69 degrees. we will see upper 50s at half moon bay. san mateo reaching 69 degrees.

and some mid-60s in san francisco and the mission district and the embarcadero. north bay up to 76 in santa rosa and napa today. this storm system moving out of here. it was so windy. then we had the scattered showers in and out of the bay area yesterday. it is still raining. alum rock, down highway 101 near evergreen. we are seeing showers moving through. san martin and morgan hill. so this will be the last little push of that moisture moving through. and our skies clear throughout the day. there will still be storm systems nearby. going into the central valley and sierra, still rain chances moving through for the rest of today as well as tomorrow. some rain and even some snow in the sierra continues in the forecast. for us, we will be on the out e

fringes. we will see things clearing out. for the most part, the holiday weekend is looking pretty good. i'll have more updates on that. mike, you were hearing about a crash on the peninsula. >> there is a minor one. i wanted to give you a shoutout on yard duty over there saying i know you do traffic. when is it going to stop being so windy? i said watch kari. there was paving work. it should be picking up now. peninsula, the crash sounds like a minor crash. but someone had minor injuries and were taken away from the scene 101 at mount holly. the car went off into the ditch. it is not a cliff. just a slope in the roadway off to the edge. over here, goings across the high rise. san mateo bridge looks good. maybe slick roadways. saw recent rain in the south bay. bay bridge, all of these routes, travel times are great.

news making headlines around the nation and the well, here's a look at some of the headlines making news around the nation and the world. protests over presidential results have turned deadly in indonesia. jakarta post reports one person died after protesters tried to break into election offices. critics are claiming fraud. the alaska air service tied to two deadly float plane crashes has suspended all operations. the anchorage daily news said it was operated by the same company involved in the crash of two

sight-seeing planes last week. the crash killed five cruise passengers and the pilot. the seattle times headline may be misleading. lawmakers in washington state legalized human composting. it is actually a greener alternative and involves a slower organic process. 5:24 for you right now. investigators say that human error is behind a deadly amtrak derailment outside seattle. >> the ntsb just now wrapping up its investigation. three people died, dozens injured as train cars hurled onto the interstate there. this is when they were trying to clean up. it happened in december of 2017 during the train line's debut run. they cite human error saying the train was going more than double the speed limit. and heavier train cars may have prevented three passenger deaths. 'tis the season when it comes to graduation photos.

sunday. parents will join teachers for a rally and march onto the headquarters behind me here in union city to demand more pay for the people who are educating their kids. the union that represents the 600 teachers here in the district, they started striking this past monday. classes are still on at the 12 or so schools. the district relying on substitute teachers and admin staff to fill the teachers who are striking. really only one in five kids are going to class. contract negotiations have stalled. new haven teacher's association is demanding a 10% raise this year and next. they originally asked for 20% but have come down. the teachers current offer would cost $20 million. more than that, the district is offering 3% raise this year and 1% raise next year. the union argues that the district could use a $26 million

reserve to meet teachers demands. they point out the teachers are the highest paid in the county. there will be a rally at 4:00 today. and 5:30 and the parents plan to rally at the school board 6:30. thanks for the latest there, bob. it is 5:33 now. new, authorities in two cities now investigating two separate crimes targeting elderly woman. in the first case in san francisco, it involves a man set to appear in court today. he is accused of kidnapping and sexual assaulting a 74-year-old woman in his home near john mcclaren park. the "chronicle" reports he held the woman captive five hours on may 10th. at that time a dog at the home also attacked the victim. investigators say he then dumped the woman on a sidewalk where

she was found semi conscious. in the meantime, palo alto police are looking for two teenagers who broke into an elderly woman's home and took her jewelry on colorado avenue. investigators say the robbers stole money, the jewelry she was wearing, and her car new details on an incident you may remember and it included shocking video of a woman being dragged by a muni train in san francisco. the woman is filing a claim against the city. the incident, as we see right here, last month at the embarcadero station. the woman's hand gets stuck in the door. the train takes off, dragging her onto the tracks. the woman suffered broken ribs, a collapsed lung and spinal fractures 5:34. new, one south bay gun supporter is taking a legal stand against a recently approved ordinance. one resident is now teaming up with the california rifle and

pistol association to file a lawsuit. according to the morgan hill times, they say it contradicts state law allowing five days to report such thefts. they're asking for a judge to declare morgan hill's new rule in valid. an update. the dmv is working to help customers who received their real i.d.s prematurely. earlier this year u.s. homeland security said the dmv issued millions of cars without second proof of residency. the agency says those impacted will just have to check a box on the letter confirming their address and mail it back. the return letter will serve as a second residency document meeting federal guidelines 5:35 right now. happening today, engineers and still experts are gathering to decide when to reopen the troubled transbay center. cracks were found in the steel support beams. our investigative unit reported

we will see the sun coming out at 10:00. a nice warmup today. we will have warmer temperatures and also looking drier. that is coming up in less than five minutes. kari said there is some of that gray here. gray sky for palo alto, green for the speed sensors. tail lights north to willow. i'll show you the update for the east bay. almost quarter to 6:00. dramatic dash camera video of a passing car shows the moment an f-16 pilot ejected before that fighter jet crashed in southern california. a bust of flames there on your screen. the video was captured from a nearby highway. the pilot landed in a nearby airfield. he was okay. the jet, however, crashed into a warehouse. amazingly, none of the

workers -- there were workers inside at the time, but none were hurt. the pilot declared an emergency before ejecting. however, the cause of the crash is still under investigation. well, did you see this video of a crazy police chase? this happened last night in southern california. officers tried to stop this stolen rv around 7:20 last night in santa clarita. the chase wound through the san fernando valley and involved at least six crashes along the way. at one point, some tough video to watch there showing a dog appearing to fall or jump out of the motor home. we should tell you that the dog is said to be okay. they slammed into another car and took off running with another dog following. they rest rad her. three people were injured. the suspect has not been identified. gosh, you wonder what the motive was behind all that, too. >> no idea. not worth it. 5:45.

taking a stand for roe versus wade. one bay area lawmakers to the growing number of states passing new strict laws. >> they want to halt any business with them. thousands of people protested the new abortion laws yesterday from coast to coast, including in san francisco. brown said it is aimed at 20 states that restrict a woman's access to abortion. a follow-up to a food fight at the airport. some of the airport's most popular restaurants moving out. both restaurants have been at sjc for 10 years. the changes are part of an overall push to shake up the menu and give new options. san pedro square market, jim

stumps tack room and mac and cheese company the president said he doesn't want more and his administration is ratcheting down the tough talk. >> on hold is what he said. pat trach shanahan and other officials briefed members of congress tuesday. while america remains concerned about iran's actions in iraq, yemen, and throughout the middle east, we are hearing a lessening of tensions. shanahan made that on hold comment at the pentagon. the washington post says there's been an all-out argument at the white house over whether to attack iran with one of the architects of the iraq war, john bolton pushing for war. speaking of iraq, iraq has offered to help us find peace with iran through mediation. rather extraordinary when you think about it. we fought a war with iraq, and iraq fought a war with iran. back here in the u.s., a busy day for speaker nancy pelosi.
