information on who might be her replaceme replacement. president trump and nancy pelosi are getting more and more personal after the president refuses to work with democrats while they investigate him. more on that in just a moment. first we want to bring in craig boswell live in washington. craig, good morning to you. before we get to that, all the drama in the would you sahite h want to talk about theresa may. >> reporter: good morning. good morning, everyone. nothing from the white house about this. the prime minister said she will still be in office june 3rd when president trump is expecting to make his state visit there. now, there is more harsh rhetoric and harsh words between president trump and house speaker nancy pelosi. and there's also news of robert mueller's testimony. we could hear from the author of the russia report. special counsel robert mueller wants to testify behind closed doo doors.

riders. the number in 2018 is 120 million riders. this is huge because ridership makes up two-thirds of operating costs according to parking lot. they are considering the fare increase over a six-year period. it is about a 16% increase over the six-year time period. parking lot is losing millions of dollars, costing $25 million annually.

connected with a dismembered body in a san francisco home. police found the remains earlier this week at this home in the crawford amazon neighborhood. they have arrested cning's daughter and son-in-law. to be clear, officers have not identified the remains but presume it is ching who has been moving. today will mark day 5 of the teachers strike in union city and south hayward. teachers are calling for higher pay. attendance grass dropped drastically. a community building a mosque in south santa lara county. they want to replace the current worship center in san martin.

bottom of the screen shows rain by the end of the weekend, but not today. in fact, our temperatures matching exactly where we should be for the end of may. 74 in livermore. 75, san jose. santa rosa reaching 71. and san francisco up to 64 degrees. we have been tracking all the storms across the midwest avoiding the bay area. this next storm system as it moves in will arrive on sunday bringing in scattered showers. it doesn't look like a significant storm but will bring in wet weather at a time we don't need it at this point. we are usually drying out. but we have scattered rain in the forecast starting out on sunday morning, continuing throughout the day with some off and on rain. and a chance on memorial day.

won't officially leave until new leadership is in place. but as for who that might be, that's still up in the air. a shocking crime in the south bay. police believe they have found the person responsible for vandalizing a war memorial in san jose bob redell is live in san jose for us. bob, it looks like the memorial has been restored. it looks good. >> reporter: correct. just in time for memorial day, the san jose veterans memorial on park avenue. it has been restored to its original condition. it is no longer covered with black tkpwgraffiti. this is the man they say is responsible for defacing the memorial. martin vivanco. he leaves here in san jose. a follow-up investigation by the street crimes unit led them to very can viivanc vivanco. officers obtained a warrant, took him into custody without

incident. he faces charges of felony vandalism and possession of vandalism tools. vivanco allegedly spray painted black wording across the memorial early monday, may 6th, 12:20 in the morning. police say he signed his illegal work with the moniker snip. you'll recall last year, august, someone used some sort of paint marker to write on the monument known as the sons of san jose, which is dedicated to the 142 servicemen who were killed during the war in vietnam. as far as we know, san jose police have not yet made any arrests in that case. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay". >> all right. bob, thank you. 6:33 right now. the attack of a 74-year-old woman in san francisco says he's not guilty. manuel alma door stood with his attorney and translator. investigators say he grabbed the

woman walking near mclaren park and dragged her into the home where she was aing taed by a pitbull, beaten, and raped for five hours. he confessed but his attorneys want to look at the confession pointing out he has no prior convictions. and a fire caught on surveillance in a home in san jose. the homeless man is now in police custody. firefighters say the sofa he was sitting on faced on the porch by the renters is where the fire started. shortly after the fire, the tenants spotted him walking nearby. neighbors surrounded him to make sure he stayed put until police came. >> it's pretty amazing. they say a lot of times people return to the scene of the crime, the arson to see what happened, and he did. >> the owners have put the tenants in a hotel for a couple of weeks. san francisco police need your help finding two women in this surveillance video.

these women they say are wanted in connection to an alleged assault. they attacked another woman, stole her purse. and the victim was seriously hurt. it happened near union square about two months ago. investigators are now just releasing video of the suspects. they're hoping someone can identify them. police in the east bay are talking about a dramatic grab and dash robbery caught on camera and how good timing helped nab the suspects. this is security video from wednesday night at the dick's sporting goods store in pleasant hill. a group of young people were headed out the door with their arms full of merchandise. but right at that same moment, a police officer was walking through the same door. after noticing suspiciously parked car. >> they were running straight toward where that car was. yeah, they dumped all the merchandise they had in their arms and ran back toward the store. >> officers arrested four juveniles and an 18-year-old

suspects. they are trying to determine if the same crew pulled off a similar heist also caught in video in fairfield 6:35. today graduating ccsf students displayed with a commencement ceremony at davies hall. some may be celebrating already after yesterday they extended the free city college program, allowing free tuition for students who live in san francisco. the mayor's office said the new funding coughs the next decade at the cost of $15 million per year. the pilot program had been set to expire next month. speaking of graduations in the south bay, san jose state ceremonies will continue today. it is the last day of graduations for the university. the colleges of social sciences and engineering will hold their commencement at avaya. if you're looking for sweet tunes, the bottlerock music festival starts. thousands are expected to head

midday, late morning, that's when everybody is starting to hit the roads. >> sunshine at least for today. >> today, tomorrow looks good. sunday, that's when things get a little bit iffy. as we check out the weekend forecast, you want to hit up some of the festivals, upper 50s for the coast. low '60s for the bay. inland, upper 60s. there will be off and on rain on sunday. make sure you download the nbc bay area app if you're outside and rain is approaching your location. it will send you an alert if you can have a way to get inside and start to make some plans ahead of time. maybe you're going to the carnival and parade happening all over san francisco. of course we have the parade on sunday. it's going to be in the upper 50s to low 6 0s. kind of cool. at least we get sun on saturday. there's also the stone soul festival happening throughout the weekend. sunday will be the day to watch out for the rain. it may be hit or miss throughout the morning, into the afternoon. and we'll see the temperatures

santa clara. they have been tracking a crash. i'll show you what's going on and tell you about it. 6:42. don't get too comfortable with the cost to ride bart. another fare increase may be on the horizon. bart board members are debating an increase that would fake effect in 2022. they would go up over a six-year period. it could rise 16%. this is all just the discussion phase. >> bart has not been known for being on time skpeupbgt the fan fare is too high. they need to improve the surface. >> bart said revenues need to go up because they are combatting declining ridership. they want to fund new efforts to fight the fare jumpers as well.

a new bill would tighten the standard for deadly force. smokesman say they won't fight the measure. if passed, the measure would bar police from using lethal force unless it is necessary. that's a change from the current reasonable fear standard. that bill is set for a key vote next week. the dmv is now in full compliance with federal real i.d. rules. applicants initially had to provide one proof of residency and then homeland security decided they wanted two. if you only submitted one proof of residency for a real i.d., you will get an address verification letter that must be

he is facing felony charges. two people in jail after a dismembered body was found in a san francisco home. as we have been previously reporting, police found the remains earlier this week at the home of benedict ching in the crocker-amazon neighborhood. police are saying they have arrested ching's daughter and son-in-law. to be clear, they have not identified the remains but they presume that it is ching, who has been missing. another day of protests in the east bay. today will mark day 5 of the teacher's strike in union city and south hayward. teachers with the new haven unified school district are calling for higher pay. negotiations pick back up again. attendance has dropped dramatically due to the ongoing strike. new for you, navigating san francisco streets in your car may soon get a little more tricky there. that is because all in the name of safety here. so the examiner reports that
