shocking video of a woman getting pulled under by a muni train last month. something similar happened again this week. sharon katsuda live for us where muni inspectors are trying to figure out what's going on here. sharon? well, marcus, yes. muni is looking into another mishap where they say a passenger's hand got caught in the door while she was trying to get off the train. you'll recall another mishap last month was caught on video where the passenger's hand was caught in the door and she was dragged onto the tracks at the embarcadero. in this past week's incident uncovered by the investigative unit, the train operator realized the passenger's hand was caught in the door and opened the door about a block later. last month prompted the agency to order new sensors be installed. the problem this past week was caused by a crack in the rubber

tubing. that is the focus in the older fleets now. muni says there have been problems with the sensors on the doors since last october. now it is inspecting what's going on with the older fleets. reporting live in san francisco, sharon katsuda, "today in the bay". scary. this morning president trump's international trade war is taking on a new battle front much closer to home. . >> today in the bay tracie potts live in washington with news that he is now going after mexico. tracie? >> reporter: good morning. yeah, the president wants to impose tariffs, taxes on everything that crosses the southern border. and we're getting reaction this morning from mexico's trade representative saying that would be disastrous. but they are also skeptical that the president will follow through on these tariffs that he originally tweeted about.

now, the white house has put out some details. what they are saying is that this would start june 10th. so in a couple of weeks. and it would start with 5%, 5% every month until it goes up to 25eu% permanent te 25% tariff. taxing is not the way to deal with immigration. president trump said the tariffs will continue until mexico, to his satisfaction, does something about the flow of immigrants coming across the border. however, at this point they haven't really decided or said publicly what that would be. in other words, what would satisfy them to stop these tariffs. critics, democrats already tweeting this morning that this is not a good idea, that the president doesn't understand the

basics of economics and immigration. it is supposed to start in just a couple of weeks. >> tracie potts reporting in washington. thank you, tracie. 5:05. for a second straight week, school will end with no khrz for thousands of students in union city and hayward. they are expected to be back on the picket lines this morning. now state school superintendent tony thurman is getting involved, calling for both sides to figure out their differences. he issued a statement saying in part this has gone on long enough. >> happening today, fda regularities are looking at the cannabis industry. the big question is whether companies should be allowed to use cbd oil in food, drinks, and subpoenaments. ali wolf is at meta san jose airport.

a grandmother got arrested for carrying some. >> reporter: that's right a lot of people fused on the national level and state level. the tsa changed its marijuana policies. now certain cbd products will be allowed to be taken onto planes with you. here is where it gets tricky. they do not allow cbd to be used in products. that doesn't mean it is not happening. you have heard of these on the market already. they are easily available. they are being used in supplements, gummies and pet treats. it is set to be a $20 billion business in the next year. it does not have thc. it won't get you high. a lot of people relying on these for pain relief like argumearth.

they will hear from experts, retailers and farmers a it sorts through scientific data. one woman was taken into custody at disney world after being caught carrying cbd oil. another was jailed for having it in her bag at the airport in dallas. as of now, there is just one fda approved cbd product, it is an epilepsy drug. you can take that through airport security. still a lot of confusion. a lot of people trying to push to get the fda to allow cbd in products to get it regulated. a lot of big companies want to start using it. this hearing is lasting all day. and then after today the public can submit their comments online through july 2nd. reporting live in san jose, ali wolf for "today in the bay". we definitely know a lot of folks are watching to see the guidance on this one. >> police are naming the woman they say was behind the wheel in wednesday's chaotic hit and run.

25-year-old cherry neil is accused of striking two people and several cars with a stolen suv. police say she was doing all of this while evading officers over several blocks. neil this morning facing nearly two dozen charges, including driving under the influence and four counts of felony hit and run. happening now, a search in palo alto for a man who assaulted a woman out for a run. it happened wednesday morning on the bike path behind terman park. a woman was jogging when a man ran past her and smacked her backside. relief is on the way for one of the bay areas so-called food deserts. the owner says there hasn't been a full-service grocery store in the area since 1970s.

we will talk more as we talk politics in a half an hour. as you watch them go into place, it is about way more than avocados. they are an easy thing for the media to point to. you notice the price at the grocery store. mexico's big exports to us are oil and cars and machinery and medical goods. fruits and vegetables are important. but how does ford handle a 25% tariff on cars? how do hospitals handle a 25% tariff on x-ray plates? those are the questions that may have to be answered in the coming months. remember, we pay the tariffs, not mexico. other news, uber found its first financial report since becoming a public company, and it was pretty terrible. so the biggest losses ever experienced by an american company. uber will slow down subsidies on its rides, meaning your prices will go up. venture capital is helping to pay for your ride. that can't last forever.

the trump administration said it will allow gas stations to sell ethanol-blended fuel year-round. it was prohibited in the summer because it contributes to greenhouse gas and smog. the president wants to send more support to mid-western farmers. here's what he said about ethanol last year. >> all i know is you've got a lot of farmers, right? and my administration is protecting ethanol, all right? that's what you want to here. >> it would help corn farmers in iowa but soybean farmers are having the toughest time because of the chinese tariffs and the swine flu as hogs eat soy beans. soybean farmers will still struggle. on top of it all, they have dealt with the floods that even today are continuing.

the mid-70s. concord will be one of our warmer spots. today expect it to top out into the 80s. we want to show you how by about 10:00 a.m., concord will be in the 70s. it will be one of those california days where you start and say it's cool. and it gets hot fast. it will be quick to warm. pay attention to the satellite and radar. we have a couple of changes. a little bit of lightning popping up. well, that's the same system that started showing a good amount of activity over the sacramento area. we have lightning firing up through there. traveling to southern california, in through today or tomorrow, keep that in mind. you may encounter thunderstorm activity. microclimate highs in the 80s. the next seven days, we will clear out by the weekend. it will be comfortable in the 80s. we have 90s, which mike's favorite day is tuesday. >> tuesday or wednesday. from what you showed, above the clouds.

here's a look at some of the news making headlines around the nation and the world. one climber died, two others injured last night in a rockfall near the summit of mt. ranier. tacoma news tribune said climbers were flown off the mountain along with the body of the climber who died. south korea's leader leading newspaper there claims kim jong-un executed his top negotiator after the trump meeting. four others were also purged. the paper only cites one anonymous source. nbc has been unable to verify any of it.

that's the only issue. highway 4, railroad, a car fire. no real problems. speed sensors green all over the bay. thanks, mike. california school superintendent is in the bay area to sit in on negotiations between new haven school district and teachers. thurmond is meeting with both sides today. yesterday negotiations ran into 11:00. today is day 9 of the strike. it is affected thousands of students in union city and hayward. teachers will be back on the ticket lines this morning. your trips on uber and lyft could get more pricey. it isn't a price hike, though. bob redell is live in san ramon. this is something the cupc is proposing? >> reporter: correct. this is on top of an existing law. coming july 1st, a new law will go in effect. they will charge people who use

lyft and uber an extra five cents a ride to help with people in wheelchairs who have been left on the side of the curb so to speak. senator hill of san ma tay co raurb authored this new law in goes into effect july 1st. the california public utilities commission, cupc, wants to double it from 5 cents to 10 cents per trip. disability advocates are saying they want it to increase to 50 cents per trip. cupc not expected to make a decision until june. bob redell, "today in the bay".

>> we are always watching. thank you very much, bob. >> new, a concord boy is in custody accused of stabbing his friends that were playing video games. this happened yesterday afternoon at an apartment on bel-air drive. two brothers and their friend were playing video games when one of the brothers stabbed the friend several times. the teenage victim was airlifted to the hospital. his condition unknown. the suspect ran from the apartment afterwards but later called police and turned himself in. well, a woman is in custody after police say she admitted to mugging a 93-year-old man. this happened on tuesday at the 7-eleven in san leandro. security cameras showing frank walking with his attacker following behind. she grabs his wallet from him, dragging him to the ground. carla ashford later confessed. the victim suffered minor injuries. he said he's confused by her

stolen. two brothers, 5 years old and 10 years old, died in the crash. their infant brother did survive but was seriously injured. wilson faces 40 years in prison. 5:34. happening today in san francisco, the democratic convention kicks off this morning. it includes senator kamala harris, eric swalwell and front-runner so far joe biden will not be attending. speaker pelosi, governor newsom and mayor london breed are among the speakers. more details now senator elizabeth warren is scheduled to speak at a convention today. it is a call to break up big tech companies. facebook, google and apple just have too much power. continuing coverage now.

stanford's proposed expansion is still in the planning stages. it is drawing a lot of interest. the university wants to build more academic buildings and 3,000 units of housing. but there is a lot that has to happen before that. for starters, santa cra county has to okay the plans. last night's meeting was the first of six public feedback sessions. raptors won game 1 of the nba finals. it was just game, so we will just calm down. it was tough to watch either at oracle or at home. fans who went to the watch party say it wasn't exactly what they were expecting. >> at the end they just couldn't make any shots. i felt the raptors kept on getting shots that were not supposed to go in. but luck was on their side. >> we are thoroughly impressed

don't have a specific goal. the timing of the president's announcement was strange because the mexican senate was working at the new nafta, u.s./mexico trade agreement. a treaty we want mexico to sign. at the same time vice president pence was in canadian trying to get them to ratify the new tariff. the president continues to lash out at special counsel robert mueller tweeting he came into the oval office seeking to be named the director of the fbi. i told him no. the next day he was named special counsel counsel a total conflict of interest. nice.
