blocked through the area. i want to take you out there. 280 just off of 87. as folks are heading out of downtown, any travel north on 280 is where you see one lane blocked. as you saw on the live shot. there is not really a problem as far as the speed sensors are concerned. note it is about here north of 280 and past 87. slowing on the map. el camino real. we have seen that the last week. a slowing of that portion overnight. meanwhile, the rest of the bay shows an easy drive. a couple crashes on the peninsula. i want to talk about 280 and larkspur coming up. back to you. thank you very much, mike. 4:44 right now. this morning there is movement in the new haven school district stalemate. still no deal. teachers decreased demands to a 3% raise next year. students were supposed to take

hospital. >> the family involved has been trying to manage the mental health issues of their son for some time. they send out males talking about the situation. he is very well known to residents. >> he's amazing. he's in miss young 20s. grew up in the neighborhood. >> it's still not clear what led ar of gold and just an to the shooting and howy amazing kid. the ongoing investigation means people have not been able to use their cars because the street is closed. well, coming up for you here on "today in the bay", kari hall is tracking what we can expect with that weather today. starting out a monday hopeful live on a good note, kari.

here we go. monday morning. 4:48. beginning of the workweek. nice weather? >> yeah. we'll have a hot week to start, and then it will cool off. we have a lot of changes, so let's get to it. a look at the clouds to start in san jose. we will start to see the clouds roll out late morning. campbell, we go from the upper 50s to the mid-70s by early arch. temperatures a few more degrees were whatter than that. as you get ready to head out the door in antioch, grab a jacket. we will have a cool start and a few clouds. but then see skies clearing. by 11:00, we're at 73 degrees. heading down to the south bay, checking out our highs.

reaching 83 in downtown san jose. and a high of 85 in east san jose. east bay, we're up to 85 in danville with oakland reaching 73 degrees. and low 70s in san mateo with palo alto reaching 80 today. upper 60s in san francisco. north bay reaching 87 in santa rosa. it will be much hotter as we see very dry conditions all across the region. it is because we are seeing some high pressure. but still storms will be developing over the sierra each day during the afternoon. so if you're going to be going over there, heads-up that there will be daily storms. high pressure moves in. and it keeps it hot as we go into the next three days. and you can already see that at the bottom of the screen. but there will be cooling as this area of low pressure brings rain to the pacific northwest. we'll get a little bit more of that cooling. and then by the weekend, it heats up once again. as we look at our seven-day forecast, we start out with mild but slightly warmer than it was

yesterday. some mild temperatures and then it heats up for tomorrow. that will be the peek of the temperatures for the week. but you can see by sunday, we are hot once again. up to 90 degrees after a brief cooldown for thursday and friday. heading over to mike, how is it looking at the bay bridge? >> better than i like. i don't like those temperatures. at the bay bridge, traffic is building up. we still have cash lanes not yet open. in the next nine minutes they should be open for business. they should release all the traffic flowing. and it will build 5:20, 5:30. the cash takers are not yet all in operation. a smooth, easy drive-through contra costa county. over toward 580, that's a clear drive. peninsula, south bay moving nicely. 280 north of 87 past the bird exit, we have a fire with the

crew blocking one lane for a road side fire. there's a look here at the area around the altamonte pass. 280, north of 87, no slowing on the sensors. back to you. >> thanks, mike. 4:51ignow. happening today, a push for a more prepared california. governor newsom will hold a summit in downtown sacramento. local responders and local leaders will come together to discuss how to prepare for the state being ready for a big disaster. the meeting comes before another potentially devastating wildfire season. governor newsom hopes they can be ahead of the next wildfire. several communities are dealing with the new pg&e prevention plan. they are planning to turn off fire in high-risk fire areas during red flag warnings. the emergency management believes certain conditions can hrao leave 100,000 people

indefinitely. it could affect 5 million pg&e customers in total across california. coming up "today in the her furniture protection plan wasn't offering the protection it promised. i'm consumertigator chris chmura. nbc bay area responds to this furniture fuss next. >> and happening now, cleanup in parts of maryland after severe weather rolled through parts of the state on sunday. powerful winds toppled trees in a neighborhood in bethesda. the national weather service will send in experts to figure out if there was, in fact, a tornado. a few homes and vehicles were damaged. a person in prince william county was hit by lightning and suffered serious injuries. 4:53.

4:5 right now. two nbc bay area responds to a san francisco women whose sofa wasn't quite sitting right. >> she asked chris chmura and his team if they could furnish a solution. >> she bought a custom couch from basset and paid extra nor a five-year protection plan. a little more than a year later, sunny noticed fabric on the sofa that didn't look like. she shared these pictures with us right here. it is tough to see. but she sees the problem here. and she wanted help. so she turned to basset asking for repairs but got the run around. she said no one came to her home to look at the problem she says she sees right here. we got a hold of bassett corporate. they diagnosed the issue.
