they move the crews from the area. the crash is southbound 280 right behind this mark. the exit there. we have one of two lanes blocked. tracking south past 380. meanwhile, a smooth drive for contra costa county to the maze. bay bridge toll plaza. one more cash lane will open up. thanks, mike. 5:01. breaking news in solano county. a shooting at a gas station overnight. there are reports it may have been deadly. >> sharon cat takatsuda is livee scene. >> you can see behind me that police are still here. this whole gas station is still closed off with yellow tape. and just beyond the gas pump over there is a dead body.

>> he is someone who is not accountable. >> reporter: officials say they expect a smaller group supporting the president to march as well. both sides promising to be present and vocal during his three days in the united kingdom. jay gray, nbc news, london. at 5:04, back in the states, a plan to help struggling taxi drivers at sfo is gaining success. taxi drivers who pay $250,000 for permits called medallions get to jump ahead in the pickup line. those who paid are making more money. revenues rose 41% this year. drivers picked up 56,000 passengers in february alone. not everyone is on board with the plan. many see it as an effort to address a pending lawsuit.

city college of san francisco reportedly weighing options when it comes to a possible bond measure. the examiner reports school leaders identified 450 million dollars in rebuilding costs. a recent poll found voters may approve a measure doubling that amount. it would need approval by early august to get on this november's ballot. santa clara is holding an lgbtq flag raising. the event kicks off at 10:00 outside city hall. at today's event, tomorrow leaders will consider a policy to provide guidance for the display of flags at city hall and city buildings. following discussion, they will hold a special meeting over flying the rainbow flag in honor of pride month at city hall.

dozens met on saturday to protest the decision. the sierra snowpack even bigger than first thought. the amount of snow blanketing the area deeper than 2017 that pulled the state out of the five-year drought. this year 33 times more than 2018. squaw valley has seen so much snow it plans to stay open until at least july 7th. in may alone, squaw reported 37 inches of snow. so there you go. skiing on the fourth of july. we are still seeing activity there with thunderstorms developing each day. there may be a chance of a few more storms all quiet and clear here. hot temperatures for today. it starts out at 58 degrees in martinez. then reaching the upper 70s

going into the mid-70s already by noon. you may want to grab that and head back to air-conditioning at the office. it will reach 83 in san jose. 82, milpitas. there will be a light wind but not as brisk as it has been. so it is going to feel hotter in antioch. the high reaches 87 degrees. 84 today in martinez. and for the peninsula, half moon bay keeps the natural air-conditioning at 65. we'll be in the upper 60s in san francisco while the north bay will be hotter reaching 91 in ukiah. napa up to 84 dress. >>. our high pressure is building that's going to make it hotter as we will see a northerly wind. it moves off towards the east. there will be showers across the pacific northwest. some of that cool air will move in and give us a little bit of a break towards thursday and

friday. but then it gets hot again for the weekend. we can see that reflected in the seven-day forecast. it will be windy once we see that system moving to our north. by thursday and friday, it is still going to be dry but feeling much better. and going toward saturday and sunday, planning for a hot and sunny weekend around the bay area. mike, you just saw a crash off the san mateo bridge. >> folks, if you're traveling east bound, just past our camera, overland fall we are looking at a crash. the car went off the roadway. the person fell asleep. they are off the roadway. i think they might have hit a pole or light pole. we are checking the damage to the pole and the person. traffic is able to smoothly flow off the bridge itself. westbound san mateo and dumbarton bridges just fine.

in the case of a missing mother of connecticut. police are searching round the clock for jennifer dulos who disappeared may 24th. they arrested her estranged husband and his girlfriend saturday night. they are charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and hindering the prosecution in the first degree. happening now, severe storms are hitting the northeast, mid atlantic, and slicing through the mid-western states. all of thiss flooding is hittin the areas devastated by recent downpours. record waters are forcing people in three different states to evacuate including iowa, missouri and arkansas. in arkansas, one river has crept up to the rooftops. it is not expected to crest in days. it is forcing new evacuations in missouri east of kansas city. a sense of helplessness is

overwhelming. >> you are at the mercy of the lord. i want to get back in there and see what the damage is, what was lost. >> many communities are expect to go deal with the record flooding well into next week. >> new video shows a sandy encounter here. an al gator taking to the beach in north carolina. it was seen walking through the ocean water saturday afternoon. visitors of the beach watched from a distance as the reptile lounged in the sand and surf. finding alligators on the beach is rare but not unheard of. >> the baseball world may be buzzing about this video from yesterday. this sparked an unusual delay at the padres game. a big swarm of bees invaded the park. they considered forming a hive on a microphone off the backstop. efforts were denied as a trained bee expert got them.

you can hear them doing the play-by-play. >> what was on the microphone that made it attract the bees? that is crazy. a buzzing show as well. >> 5:25. now a rescue of a rare albino fawn here in california. >> it was almost hit by traffic. the truck driver saw a vehicle narrowly avoid hitting the white object while he was on the road. he drive by the area a second time to investigate and thought it might be a lamb because the animal's snow white coat. the driver reached out to a local rescue group. after getting a photo of the little fellow you see right there, they actually picked up the fawn. he is believed to be about three weeks old. he has been named spirit. it looks like it might have earned that name. beautiful. >> i have never seen an albino fawn. >> beautiful there.

a good monday morning to you. taking a live look at the bay bridge. foggy but certainly looks nice outside. start with the jacket on, of course. good morning to you. thank you for starting your morning with us. i'm marcus washington. . >> i'm laura garcia. but you know what? >> what's that? >> you have to ditch the jacket. >> we start out with cool temperatures this morning and clouds and fog near the coast. but we are going to see all of that clearing out. a live look at palo alto. our temperatures go from the upper 50s. once the skies clear, a lot of sunshine with low 70s. here's a look the a our highs for today reaching the upper 80s inland. get ready for that. we'll talk about how hot it gets this week. and you're tracking a truck fire. >> a fire truck. we followed it all the way from the berkeley curve past the toll

plaza. this is the metering lights. that is where the fire truck ended up. whatever was on fire, a smoking vehicle, it looks like it was taken off the approach to the bay bridge toll plaza. again, that's good news. we have the backup. we showed that to you as well, marcus and laura, the backup at the toll plaza with the metering lights on. everything else is moving smoothly. folks heading in for the commute. a little slowing for highway 13. crew on the move for the freeway. the rest of the bay moving nicely. disabled vehicle looks like it cleared from the roadway. crash activity on the shoulder. a crash for 280. we'll talk about that next, laura. but right now, back to you. one man is dead and police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened in walnut creek. bob redell joins us live from that area. bob? >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. walnut creek police tell us they shot and killed a 23-year-old man threatening his family and who came at their officers with

a long metal pry bar. neighbors we spoke with say that the family had been dealing with his mental health issues for quite some time. according to police, yesterday 4:40 the grandmother called to say he threatened her. the dispatcher could hear yelling in the background. a few minutes later there was a possible gunshot. then the man's mother called saying he was being violent, broke a sliding glass window with a sharp metal pole. she said he had mental health issues and. when police arrived they ordered the man to drop the pry bar. he refused, ran at officers. one officer shot at him with nonlethal bean bags. that didn't stop him. two officers shot with handguns.

they performed cpr until paramedics arrived. he died later at the hospital. >> he's amazing. >> he's in miss young 20s. grew up in the neighborhood. >> known him since he was 4. he's got a heart of gold and just an amazing kid. >> as you can tell, the man was very well known not neighbors. he sent out emails to the neighborhood to let them know about his mental health. any loss of life is tragic. the five officers will be placed on paid administrative leave while the d.a. and police department investigate. reporting live in walnut creek, bob redell, "today in the bay". >> 5:32. happening today, a push for more prepared california. governor newsom will hold an emergency management summit in downtown san francisco. leaders will come together to discuss how prepared the state is for a big disaster.

it comes before another potentially devastating wildfire season. they hope that the state can be one step ahead of the next big fire or emergency. several communities are prepared to deal with a new pg&e prevention plan. the press democrat reports sonoma county emergency management believe it could leave 100,000 people without power indefinitely. the outrage could affect 5 million pg&e customers. in total across northern california. >> teachers in one east bay school district are now entering day 10 of picketing. new movement that may help bring an end to the strike. kris sanchez joins us live in union city with the latest developments. kris? >> reporter: hi there, laura. teachers expect to be on the picket lanes at james logan

behind me at 8:30 and other campuses around the new haven school district at 7:30 this morning. while it seems that the teachers union has made some concession, the district says it's not a concession that they consider a legal offer. i want to show you what the latest is here on this story. according to the union, they lowered their ask to just a 3% pay increase, less than they had been asking before. the district said that would cost the district more than the union's last offer, which violates state bargaining law. on wednesday, it is supposed to be the last day of school. logan high school's graduation is scheduled for june 15th. the superintendent says that is going to happen as scheduled regardless of what the strike situation is. this is day 10 of the teachers strike impacting 11 different schools. 600 teachers are in the district. they have been at an impasse with the district primarily overpay.

focus will be on an unfamiliar venue. a former sex discrimination lawsuit begins in napa county. the one time french laundry worker claims she was denied to a transfer to new york city and let go because she was pregnant. she is seeking $5 million in damages. so far keller's company has not issued a statement about the lawsuit. >> 5:36. bart leaders are putting new pressure on washington to green light funding that would increase train capacity. bart says more than $1 billion is being paid tied up by the transit administration. they are requesting the money and say it would increase train frequency through the bay tube by more than 30%. the letter cites last week's deadly bay bridge crash and spike in ridership is one reason why the money is needed. san francisco's skip is pulling its dockless scooters from the city streets. skip is one of the two companies

licensed to operate in san francisco. it also operates in washington, d.c. here's the reason why skip is suspending service. one of the scooters caught fire last week in washington, d.c. luckily, no one was injured here. they are sidelining scooters in both cities out of abundance of caution. >> 5:37. fans packed oracle for last night's game two watch party and came away celebrating. >> the dubs did what they needed to do some in toronto and they're coming back with home court advantage. the game was still in doubt in the third quarter with five seconds left when iguodala came up with the clutch three-pointer. warriors won it 109-104 to even the series at one apiece. none other than former president barack obama. you can see him clapping there, standing with nba commissioner adam silver. even though the warriors got the last laugh, drake seemed like he

the first bit of slowing eases up. i'll show you how things pan out for the south bay coming up. new this morning, fire crews on the scene of a small grass fire near northbound 280 south of bird. it is on the shoulder of the freeway. at one point one lane of traffic impacted. no structures were threatened. a follow-up to a mountain lion attack that hurt a little boy in san diego. he was on a hike over the memorial day weekend when the animal attacked. we know the animal died. the department of fish and wildlife says the dna analysis conclusively proves a mountain lion was shot and killed by wildlife officials this week. it was that same animal who hurt

the boy. the boy had nonlife-threatening injuries. pride events are usually about unity and inclusion. . >> new division within the city's police department. one veteran police officer is disappointed. >> i want to express who i am as a police officer for my city. and i would like to be able to continue that. >> there is a lot of youth experiencing homelessness, they don't feel safe in the presence of an officer's uniform. >> the officers will participate in civilian clothing. pride festivities take place next weekend.

the measure that would give california public health officials instead of local doctors the authority to decide which children can skip their shots before going to school. newsom supports immunization but is concerned with giving government officials that much power now to decision 2020 and the presidential race. kamala harris is proposing a new housing plan to try to help with skyrocketing rents. heirs's rent relief act would create a monthly refundable bill. nationally 21 million americans pay more than 30% on rent and utilities. >> president trump is in england with the queen. >> a lot of protests. >> this is the president's second visit to england as president. his second with the queen. but the first full state visit with all the pageantry therein. video just in with the president

5:56. have you seen this yet? incredible video out of italy. this cruise ship ran into a dock in venice on sunday. you can even hear the boat as it impacted the dock. you can see people running away from the ship. the owner said the ship was about to dock when there was a mechanical problem. the ship unable to slow its momentum, blairing its horn as we heard right there as it plows into a much smaller boat and dock. this one from on board the ship. at least five people were hurt. the "today" show is live in italy with more on this coming up for you at 7:00.
