a banquet this evening in a palace ballroom. polls show as many as two-thirds of londoners are opposed to the visit, including the city's mayor. >> there were so many things about president donald trump's policies that are the antithesis of our values in london, plus our values as a country. >> reporter: during a working trip last year, hundreds of thousands of protesters filled the streets. this time police are preparing for a million or more. >> the most powerful bully in the world. it's that simple really. he is unaccountable really through the normal means. >> reporter: officials expect a smaller group to march as well. both promising to be present and focal during his three days in the knighted kingdom.

united kingdom. he has been outspoken against the president and his administration, calling him 20th century fascist a while back. before he even stepped off air force one upon landing here in london he posted on twitter saying khan is nasty and stone cold loser, also making fun of the mayor's height. in oauspicious start. >> thanks, jay. 6:04. breaking news in solano county. police in fairfield investigating a shooting at a gas station overnight. there are reports it may have been deadly >> sharon katsuda live at the scene. sharon >> reporter: laura and marcus, more and more investigators are showing up this morning. you can see this whole gas station has been closed off by yellow tape. and just beyond the gas pump there and the gray card there is a dead body.

who pay are making more money. it rose by roughly 41%. not everyone is on board with the plan. many critics see it as an effort to address a pending lawsuit. city college weighing options when it comes to a possible bond measure to renovate the performing arts center and other buildings. examiner reports school leaders have identified about $450 million in rebuilding of cos. a recent poll found voters may approve a measure providing nearly double that amount. it would need approval by early august to get on this year's november ballot. santa clara is holding a flag raising ceremony in recognition of pride month at 10:00 outside city hall. it comes as debates over the

rainbow flag in dublin continue this week. leaders will consider a policy to provide guidance for the display of flags. following discussions they will hold a special meeting at city hall in honor of pride month. last month the council voted that idea down. it did not sit well with members of the community. dozens met on saturday to protest the decision. >> the a lot of snow blanketing even deeper than the snowpack that pulled the state out of the five-year drought. this year's snowfall is 33 times more than 2018. in the tahoe basin squaw valley ski resort has seen so much snow it will stay open until july 7th. they reported 37 inches of snow in may alone. >> getting in on the snow. i went to tahoe for the first time this year.

>> the beekeeper came and sprayed stuff on them. spray stuff on them! that's the training. >> had to be covered. >> an expert. speaking of experts, meteorologist kari hall has been tracking what we can experience this week throughout the day. >> it's going to be all about where you are across the bay area, which is usually the case. we're going to have the clouds and the fog near the coast. and clearing inland. we will start to see a few clouds over walnut creek right now. that's a live look. here's a look at our temperature trend for today. it will be in the upper 50s at 7:00. nice, cool start. it's going to heat up fast. so if you leave the air-conditioning off at home and you come back home, it is going to be warm inside the house. now, we're in the last week of school for san jose unified. so we are enjoying those, all the parties and everything going on in schools. we will be in the upper 50s as you start to school this morning. in the upper 70s by the time that last school bell rings today.

it will reach 86 in morgan hill. a light wind. not as breezy as yesterday. that's going to make it feel hotter in concord. palo alto reaches 81 degrees. for san francisco, mostly some upper 60s today. north bay anywhere from 67 in point reyes to 9 1 in ukiah today. all clear and dry as we look at what's happening across the region. high pressure is here. that's what keeps us from seeing many clouds and can also heat up our temperatures. we will see the winds around that high pressure giving us a hot and dry wind. by the end of the week, we will see this area of low pressure moving in bringing in a chance of showers for the pacific northwest.

by the weekend, it gets hot once again as the high pressure builds out in the pacific. this is the way our temperatures go. we'll be in the mid-80s inland in some of our were whatter spots. even hotter tomorrow. a cooldown under way by the weekend. check that out. thursday and friday, the best days to get some yard work done or whatever errands you have to run. it will heat up this weekend. we will see a little bit warmer temperatures in san francisco. mike, you're checking in on the bay bridge. >> i am. a few factors, kari. low clouds and the fog. the visibility across the span is fine unless you're just looking at the city. then you can't see that across the span. but it's there. you know it's there. a smooth drive. we're talking about what's there around the yorba buena tunnel. there will be slowing. a bridge crew is going out to help out. no major problems. left lane as you pass through the tunnel may be a factor. stay to your right.

checks. >> we will never protect everybody against everybody who is deranged, insane. >> they are still trying to figure out the shooter's motives but say he was in good standing with his department. in the case of a missing mother of connecticut. police are searching round the clock for jennifer dulos who disappeared may 24th. they arrested her estranged husband and his girlfriend saturday night. they are charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and hindering the prosecution in the first degree. happening now, severe storms are hitting the northeast, mid atlantic, and slicing through the mid-western states. all of this flooding is hitting the areas devastated by recent downpours. record waters are forcing people in three different states to evacuate including iowa, missouri and arkansas. in arkansas, one river has crept up to the rooftops. it is not expected to crest in days.

>> it was almost hit by traffic. the truck driver saw a vehicle narrowly avoid hitting the white object while he was on the road. he drive by the area a second time to investigate and thought it might be a lamb because the animal's snow white coat. the driver reached out to a local rescue group. after getting a photo of the little fellow you see right there, they actually picked up the fawn. he is believed to be about three weeks old. he has been named spirit. it looks like it might have earned that name. >> it does look like a little lamb. 6:26. a school strike continues in the east bay. negotiations are advancing. the concession teachers are making as they return to the picket lines off the streets. riders in san francisco may be in for a rude start after a scooter fire out east. we'll explain. but first, a police shooting in contra costa shooting turned deadly overnight. what people in the neighborhood are saying. right now at 6:30--

build. more slowing for walnut creek and for highway 4 into concord. those are the areas we see a lot more traffic on a usual monday. summertime meaning the summer schedules. kari has an eye on the seasons. we'll talk about more of what we see in the south bay coming up. 6:31. developing story out of contra costa county. overnight, one man was confirmed dead after a police shooting in walnut creek. a story we started following last night. it has been evolving ever since. bob redell live at the scene. bob, what can you tell us this morning? >> reporter: he ran at them with a long metal pry bar. they have not yet publicly identified this man.

walnut creek police tell us they shot and killed a 23-year-old man threatening his family and who came at their officers with a long metal pry bar. neighbors we spoke with say that the family had been dealing with his mental health issues for quite some time. according to police, yesterday 4:40 the grandmother called to say he threatened her. the dispatcher could hear yelling in the background. a neighbor called. a few minutes later there was a possible gunshot. then the man's mother called saying he was being violent, broke a sliding glass window with a sharp metal pole. she also warned police her son had mental health issues and would be aggressive towards officers. there was another caller. he said a man was pounding on his front door with a pry bar. when police arrived they ordered the man to drop the pry bar. he refused, ran at officers. one officer shot at him with nonlethal bean bags. that didn't stop him. two officers shot with handguns. they performed cpr until paramedics arrived. you fortunately he died later at the hospital.

>> he's amazing. >> he's in miss young 20s. grew up in the neighborhood. >> known him since he was 4. he's got a heart of gold and just an amazing kid. >> as you can hear, this man was very well known to the neighbors. he sent out emails to the neighborhood to let them know about his mental health. the department said they are deeply saddened. any loss of life is tragic. the five officers will be placed on paid administrative leave while the d.a. and police department investigate. reporting live in walnut creek, bob redell, "today in the bay". certainly a difficult time for all involved, bob. 6:33. teachers are now entering day 10 of picketing. but there's new movement this morning that may help bring an end to the strike. chrkris sanchez joins us live w those developments. kris? >> reporter: hi there. it seems that the new haven teachers association made an

offer to the district which doesn't seem to be a legal offer based on state bargaining law. that could be some movement here. we know there will be movement out of here at several other campuses at 7:30 this morning. here is the very latest as it stands this morning. according to the union, they lowered their ask to a 3% pay increase next year. the district said that would cost the district more than the union's last offer, which violates state bargaining law. on wednesday, it is supposed to be the last day of school. logan high school's graduation is scheduled for june 15th. the superintendent says that is going to happen as scheduled regardless of what the strike situation is. this is day 10 of the teachers strike impacting 11 different schools. 600 teachers are in the district. they have been at an impasse with the district primarily over pay for the last 10 days.

the superintendent of schools tony thurmond joined the session last week. >> the strike plan is still in place. we will be back on the strike lines tomorrow unless something very much needs to happen. we have to give credence to ending the strike. at this point now it is still on for tomorrow. >> reporter: all right. that's where it stands with the teachers and the district. this is a tough time for a strike for families, especially families with seniors who are graduating. the school district is working with seniors to make sure that they can get their final grades even if they can't take the final exams. they're also working to make sure they get their transcripts in case they are still applying for colleges. according to the district, they did check in with csu and uc systems. this situation will be taken into consideration with those applications. in union city, chrkris sanchez,

"today in the bay". thanks so much, kris. 6:35. happening today, a push for a more prepared california. governor newsom will hold an emergency management summit in downtown sacramento. the meeting comes after another potentially devastating wildfire season. the governor hopes the state can be one step ahead of the next big fire or emergency. several communities are preparing to deal with a new pg&e prevention plan. the utility companies is planning to turn off power in high-risk areas during red flag warnings. sonoma county's emergency management believes certain conditions could leave 100,000 people without power indefinitely. outages could affect 5 million pg&e customers across california. 6:36. san francisco's skip is removing

jose: fire crews battled a small grass fire near northbound 280 just south of bird ave. 6:43. new in san jose, firerews battle a small grass fire 280 south of bird avenue. it was off the shoulder of the freeway there. this was from 4:30 in the morning just after the fire started. crews were able to g a good handle on the fire to prevent it from spreading. all lanes of course are open now. no structures were threatened. wine country chef thomas keller's focus will be on an unfamiliar venue. of course there at french laundry in yountville. a sex discrimination lawsuit begins in napa county. the one time french laundry worker said she was denied to

new york city and let go because she was pregnant. she is seeking $5 million in damages. this morning governor newsom is expressing concern about implementing tougher rules when it comes to children's vaccinations. it would give doctors the authority to decide which children can skip their shots. this is before going to school. he supports immunization but is concerned with giving government officials that much power. backlash for kim kardashian after a visit to san quentin last week. she is studying with with a bay area organization to become a lawyer. her focus is criminal justice reform. he was convicted of killing a couple and their two children in chino hills in the 1980s. he was sentenced to death but always maintained his innocence, insisting he was framed.

the "today" show will report at 7:00 this morning. >> bart leaders putting new pressure to increase train capacity. more than $1 billion in grant money is being tied by the federal transit administration. the general manager is requesting the money. she said it would fund a program to increase train frequency by 30%. the spike in ridership is one reason why the money is needed. president trump is meeting with the queen. >> a lot of protests, scott mcgrew. >> this is the second visit to england. his second visit with the queen in fact. the first full state visit with all the pageantry therein. this is video just into our newsroom of the president with her majesty the queen. earlier he reviewed troops with prince charles. now, normally this would be the

video we would stick to, show you some of the pageantry or what they are seeing here. president trump's words once again are causing him trouble. as he landed in the uk, he tweeted that the mayor of london is a stone cold loser and used the word nasty to describe him. and the other controversy that he called meghan, prince harry's wife, nasty. in a tweet he denies that. the sun, the newspaper that ran the article, has audio of him saying that. they have posted that online. the president did go on to say he's sure meghan will be a good royal. he will travel to two other countries, france, norman day and shannon, ireland, before traveling to one of his golf courses there. the other big news, secretary of state mike pompeo may be right when pompeo said that the white house's new middle east peace

the tree pollen, pine, oak, and olive trees. if you're on your way out the door to the pleasant hill bart station, it's going to be in the upper 50s. you can see that it will be about 71 degrees at lunchtime 75. mostly sunny skies. eventually reaching the upper 80s. so, yeah, it's going to be hotter than it was yesterday. reaching 73 in oakland. 83 today in san jose. we can see that it's all clear out there right now. no storms headed our way. no clouds. high pressure building across the region. and that's going to make it feel hotter. that usually gives us all clear skies. we will see that moving out of the way, allowing for a storm system to roll across the pacific northwest. we're not going to get any rain, but we will get a little bit of cooler air moving in on thursday and friday. and then it heats up again for the weekend. we'll be seeing the highs in the mid-80s and low 90s. our temperatures starting up and

welcome back. before you head out the door, it is 6:56. here are the top stories on "today in the bay" breaking news in fairfield where at least one person is dead after a shooting at an arco gas station. it happened about midnight on north texas street. so far no update from fairfield police, but investigators are still on the scene and authorities have not yet removed the body. our crew also saw a gray mustang still connected to the gas pump. you see it there.

no word on the person who died or if there are any victims in walnut creek, neighbors are stunned after police officers shot and killed a man on sandra court. the shooting happened a little before 5:00 p.m. last night. police say officers were called about a 23-year-old man who threatened his family and went after them with a metal crowbar. someone called to report a possible gunshot. the man grew up at the home and was dealing with mental health issues. . there is a stalemate but still no deal. a live look outside the school district in union city. teachers have grade to decrease demands to a 3% raise next year. seniors are supposed to take most of their finals last week. instead, they may have i to accept grades earned earlier in the quart er. the last day of school for
