"today in the bay" continues right now. and a good morning to you. thank you so much for starting your morning with "today in the bay." i'm marcus walk. >> i'm laura garcia. we're going to get to weather in a bit, a cooling trends. but there has been a problem on pleasanton over on 680. >> we have a traffic alert in the tri-valley. we will take you to the big map to show you overall traffic is moving nicely. if you drive in pleasanton, this is a problem. 680 is jammed at 84 with the arrow. >> that is a typical cut for folks coming down through livermore. >> that is just fine. it gets you past the scene of this crash. southbound 680 has problems off the dublin interchange you are back to solid down here for brunell where the exit is closed. stone ridge, you can stay on these city streets through pleasanton. likely, a lot of folks are doing that we are looking at a slower drive there after you get past

brune brunell, you can get on the 680 south. then everything is clear. i had hoped to tell you everything is opened. but bob redell is still at the scene, what do you have? >> reporter: mike, i just spoke to the chp officer keeping an eye on the big rig that stalled southbound 680. unfortunately he said the tow truck will be another 20 minutes. he hopes to be here another 20 minutes, this is why this tow truck is stuck in the same backup that other people are experiencing as they come past this disabled big rig. now the driver of this big rig was heading southbound 680 around 4:00 when he hit something that punctured his gas tank. he says he was spilling fuel and pulled over here. he did have to have a little i livermore pleasanton fire department come out here. they fixed the gas tank, wrapped

it up. they estimate there was 10 to 20 gallons of fuel spilled out here. it's a matter of getting the big rig out of way. they don't want to be thriving with a gas tank that only has a patch on it. until the tow truck gets here, chp in another 20 minutes, will you have this shut down at the lane. in pleasanton, bob redem, "today in the bay". >> not a fun morning commute through there. >> not at all. 6:03 for right now. we want to get a look at that weather. kari, something to be happy about. a cool down is coming our way. >> our natural air condition secretary coming back. we have a foggy start there. drizzling. it is clear inland. we are going to also feel that breeze picking up and much cooler temperatures. low 70s today. we'll talk more about that. and also what's ahead in the weekend forecast coming up in about five minutes.

>> thanks, so much, kari. we have that breaking news for you. >> "today in the bay" ali wolf got on the scene of a deadly shooting we know you arrived. what do you have so far? >> reporter: the crime seen is behind me in a residential neighborhood. we do know that just after midnight, officers patrolling this area, heard shots fired. they found a man dead. as of right now. they don't have suspects. we have video overnight after this happened. this is in the alum rock neighborhood. this is a residential neighborhood near thomas p ryan elementary. we are gathering the information. we just got on scene, families here in this neighborhood are starting to wake up as the sun is coming up. they are seeing this crime

scene. we have been talking to some neighbors. some of them didn't hear anything. we are hoping to gather more information about what happened. again what we know is one man is dead and a homicide investigation is under way. reporting live this morning in san jose, ali wolf for ""today in the bay." request itself. >> thanks for the latest, ali. 6:05 for you right now. today we remember the heroism of d-day. 75 years later, world leaders overnight, including president trump, gathered in normandy for a solemn ceremony to honor the brave soldiers' service and sacrifice. earlier, hundreds of people from around the world gathered at omaha beach to watch the sun rise, ceremonies are taking place at the zer cemeteries. coming up for you at 6:45, we have a live report from norm andy france with president trump's message to the world overnight. we will show you the contra costa county d-day veteran in france for his emotional return. >> you will certainly want to

"today in the bay" tom jensen joins us live at the warriors store in walnut creek. this fan, i wonder if they will be allowed to be back on friday. >> reporter: you have to wonder. a lot of people are talking about this. good morning, we have not seen whether or not the warriors are going to do anything. i have been looking at their twitter feed, checking the website to see if there is an official statement yet about this fan. but they have not yet made that statement. we don't yet even know the identity. but we did see a warrior staff member escort that fan from the court right after the incident.

this is a play about ten minutes left in the game. a block shot towards the seats. raptors point guard kyle lowrie jumps into the crowd trying to save the ball. look at the fan to the right of lowrie. he reachs into the seat next to him and shoves the raptors player and allegedly was swearing that's him. there is no doubt whether lowrie wants the fan to return. >> he had no reason to reach over two seats and say as a result far language to me. no place for people like that in our leak. hopefully, he never comes back to an nba game. >> we don't know if the fan is a season tick holder, but he was court side and those seats costs thousands of dollars per game. he was sitting close to the warrior's owner and lots of people talking about this last night and again this morning on twitter, some of them saying fans should never be allowed back to a warriors' game.

fire if d.c. the fire department records show a scooter caught fire in december at the san francisco warehouse as well, according to examiner. transit officials say they were not want informed and they find the new report troubling. the company tells the paper, in part, accidents are known to occur in maintenance and repair facilitys and warehouses and it is begining a repair and maintenance team. the new haven teachers strike is stretching into the 13th day, exactly one week since the last day of school. now parents are hoping to recall several school board members. they claim they're not making students and teachers a priority. the proposal will only be put on a ballot if proponents gather nearly 8,000 signatures. union leaders are now asking for a 6% raise. >> 6:09 right now. this is a fascinating story. a swarm of lady bugs leads to

antioch, napa 80 degrees. san francisco reaching 60 for today. here's my main concern in solano county as well as parts of the sacramento and san joakim valleys. the winds will pick up. this will create a higher fire danger. there will be a weather watch in effect starting tomorrow. it makes it up to 35 miles per hour. we will start to feel those winds picking up today at about 25-to-even possibly near 30 miles per hour. especially later on this evening and the winds stay gusty overnight and continue into the next couple of days. that's also transporting some cooler air, especially for today and tomorrow, but then by the rest of the weekend, it turns very hot and dry and we're going to see those temperatures going way up. inland areas in the upper 70s today and tomorrow and then upper 80s, 90s, even upper 90s in the forecast. so it is really about the says him and i know we are all

more 6:25 for you right now. the president is slapping more tariffs on foreign countries. this morning we are getting a sense of the impact the coin trade war will have on school supplies. >> tracie potts is live, mexican negotiators will be back at the white house today? >> reporter: actually we just got word they'll be at the state department today. the vice president is traveling. the president is out of town. so they will continue these talks to try to come one some way of convincing the trump administration. his cabinet, that mexico is trying to slow down illegal immigration into our country. according to a senior administration official, they have discussed putting more troops at the border on the mexico side as well as tracking down on drugs. but the white house has said that's not enough. they want faster ways of deporting people to their home countries and they want to make sure that all detainees.

not just some of them we see now stay on the other side of the border. that's what they're pushing for. the president speaking overseas says today they're making progress, they're just fought there yet. of course, if they don't come up with something that 5% tariff on mexican goods kicks in on monday. >> exactly. so this can affect so many people as well, kids are getting out of school, tracie, maybe we should think about their school supplies already for the fall? >> right. and how it's related to trade. think about it. when you buy notebook, pencil cases, pencil sharp inners, flip them over. how many of them say made in carolina? a lot of them, right? now experts are saying that the prices of the school supplies you will be buying in the next few months will likely skyrocket if the u.s. can't work out its trade deal with china. remember the president wants to put 25% tariffs on their goods as well.

to be in the 70s. we talk about the weekend forecast, that's coming up in about five minutes. >> thanks we have braking into u.s. to tell you about this morning in san jose's alum rock neighborhood. >> "today in the bay" is on the scene of a deadly shooting close to thomas p. ryan elementary. any new information about 30 minutes ago? >> well, lawyer remarks marcus, we know a man was found shot and dead here in a car on scene. i can tell you we do see two vehicles police seem to be focusing their attention on. it looks like it has its windshield shattered. another has been crashed or burned on the other side of the road. we are waiting to find out what actually happened here. we do know an officer heard shots fired overnight around 12:20. they say they found a man dead in a car with at least one

gunshot wound and did not find any suspects, so they are still investigating, a very active scene out here, still, about six hours later. again this is on mcgen is avenue near elementary school, neighbors waking up. we did some checking here. there have been 13 homicides this year in san jose so far compared to seven at the same time last year. you guys mentioned there is an elementary school out here. this neighborhood is residential. we're just seeing a lot of cars. people waking up, helding to work. what they are seeing is seeing crime scene tape and an active crime scene here. we are trying to piece together the turn of events. we see a situation with one car crashed on the side of the road. investigators looking at another car as well. for now we are live in san jose, ali wolf for today in the bay. >> thanks for the latest live from the scene there.

6:34. we have more breaking news. this is out of new york. we are getting our first look of pictures in a crash in west point. this is involving at least 20 cadets. a 5 ton cargo truck is unfolding at a training site called camp natural bridge. at least one cadet was air lifted to the hospitals, said to have serious injuries. another four-to-five people also hospitalized. we will keep an eye on the story as it continues to develop and our sky ranger there continues to head to the scene to see if we can get a better look of what is happening there on the ground. well, 6:35. we have a developing story. a 10-year-old boy is one of three people shot after gunfire erupted at a youth soccer field. >> a lot of people out there. at jacobs park.

a 20-year-old victim was critically injured. police say the boy and a 40-year-old man will survive. there is no further injury. multiple soccer games were going on at the time. it sent hundreds running for cover. a leak representative says one coach was shot. >> what i heard from the coach who just got shot, it was that they were there waiting for them. there was a car that drove by. one of -- two of the people waiting there started saying some stuff. the car comes around the guy gets out the car and starts shooting. >> police say the shooting is gang related. they are looking for a dark colored suv. we will continue to track this story as well. mike is tracking that situation on 680. mike, what have you been able to find out? >> we are taking you to live pictures. we are showing you what looks the same. notice chp moved over. i did see an officer where bob

where you want to head, anywhere cool. you make mae make your weekend plans, i will be in the low 70s for the coast. the bay reaching 80. 89 in the inland areas. it's going to be even hotter, especially in the valleys on sunday reaching 94 degrees. it does say comfortable for the coast. in san jose, it's going to be warm as we celebrate portugal as this happens in history park on saturday starting at 10:00 in the morning. we go from the mid-70s to the upper 80s throughout the day. you might want to get there early. we can find cooler temperatures in alameda. they're having the sand sculpture contest. it's going to be fun. upper 50s, a few clouds, warming up nicely. if you are going to the sierras, still some snow on the mountain peaks, look how warm it will be, going from 63 degrees tomorrow to the mid-70s by the end of the weekend and i think a lot of the

. good thursday morning. it is 6:42. it's a clear start inland. we do have clouds and fog near the coast. if you are on the way out the door to the pleasant hill bart station, it's going to be a really nice day. much more comfortable, we will reach into the 70s. we will talk about the brake from the heat and when that heat comes back in less than five minutes. chp officer, whoa that smoke is not related to this traffic alert. chp officers are getting back in the car shuffling supplies. they will be there a while. we'll give you the latest update. if you hope this will clear, it's not bad. we have continuing coverage of a power outage of some flights in the l.a. area.

>> reporter: marcus, it's great to talk to you. the ceremony has ended here. thousands who have gathered have left some remain in what was a battlefield now just a sacred burial site. a tribute to so many the men who fought here as well as the 4,000 americans under 20-years-old when they died during the d-day invasion here. look, it was a special ceremony. there were moments of emotion during the event and obviously a lot of gratitude, especially from president trump. let's hear what he had to say. >> you are among the very greatest americans who will ever live. you are the pride of our nation. are you the glory of our republic. and we thank you from the bottom of our heart.

>> reporter: the french president macron laying a wreath and being talked to by the coordinator of this site. a little talk about the strategy of that day and about how things unfolded. it's really been an important day in so many -- >> it looks like we lost his microphone there. of course, the president and melania as well, the french president, it has been a historic day to remember d-day, 75 years ago. you can imagine how moving it is, there are actually some survivors that stormed the beaches there were there. include d.c. bay area veteran. he attended today's very moving ceremony. >> no hug for you. yes. a hug for you. >> we all want a hug from mr. jake larsen, 96-years-old.

he is the only living survivor he was awarded bronze medal for his service larsen stopped in to visit the normandy ceremony, he paid tributes to his fallen comrades. he says this is a trip he never thought he'd take. >> this is unbelievable. unbelievable. the smiles i get from here and the handshakes. >> you don't know what this means to an old man. >> oh. can you imagine? >> just a beautiful moment for him to experience. now, let's not forget, a lot of you helped him to to france, more than $10,000 was raised online. this was days before it aired on "today in the bay." you can watch larsen's full journey coming occupy on the

because this is not everywhere. it's a shallow layer of fog at about 1,000 feet extending across the golden gate bridge and the bay and parts of the city that will cool everyone off, even the inland areas as we start out clear, looking live in san jose. we head over to evergreen, we will be in the upper 50s. we'll be at 66 degrees at 10:00, reaching the mid-70s by 1:00 today. we will stay below our normal high temperature. reaching 75 in san jose. 78 in livermore, low 80s in concard and antioch. there is so much better than the mid-90s yesterday. even as our temperatures cool off, we have another thing we will be watching for. a fire weather watch for solano county extending towards the sacramento and san joakim rallies, the wind will be picking up. it will be dry, humidity down to 10 to 20%. the starts tomorrow, continues throughout the weekend. we are going to see those winds picking up today.
