hayward. video shows the man walking around the family's yard. he left and came back and that's when the kids ran to call police. police went into the home and took the prowl are into custody. >> a gas leak shut down the transbay tube this afternoon. oakland firefighters say a construction company hit a natural gas pipeline near the west oakland bart station. bart did shut down the transbay tube for less than an hour but service is back to normal. >> the city of emery is testing out new protective bike lanes in a section of the city. it is clear the lanes are making it safer to bike around the city but they seem to be creating a slew of or problems. jody hernandez is in emeryville where people say the lanes are messing up everything from traffic to even getting their mail. >> reporter: residents say it's not the actual bike lanes they're upset about but these

the brushfire along highway 4 in concord is now fully contained. this is just east of willow pass road. take a look. see the flames there. it started around 2:00 this afternoon and burned about 12 acres. firefighters say it's a good indicator of what's to come with red flag conditions this weekend. >> with fire season now here, a company is giving us a glimpse of fire safety in the future. they've created a fire resistant home, basically built with a lot of metal instead of wood. >> reporter: we set up on a hill to give you this view of a sprawling 6,000 square foot frame. you know, when you look at it, it's hard to believe it's supposed to be just a home with all that metal, but that's the appeal here in wildfire country. metal doesn't burn. the framework is as visually impressive inside as outside.

you could see from our tower in san francisco looking right off towards pacific ocean, not much in way of fog tonight. beautiful colors coming in off that sunset. currently 55 in san francisco. just a little bit of fog will develop once we hit 2 or 3:00 tomorrow morning. as you think about anything you have going on, mostly sunny skies to begin and mix of some 50s and 60s here across the bay area. by the afternoon, it warms up but not too hot, 81 in napa, 82 in santa rosa, back to livermore 78, san jose 76. as you get closer to the bay, you're down to 72 in oakland and san francisco at 66. tomorrow you got to enjoy, got to get outside. we're going to see massive changes this weekend. this huge ridge of high pressure, the strongest one we've seen this year is going to move in and basically create a huge roadblock on the weather pattern.

thousand cars so you don't have to. we looked at more than a thousand of them. we found lots of those cars for sale right here in the bay area have been recalled. they're for sale but they've been recalled and yet they haven't been fixed. if you think that isn't a big deal, let anthony santos tell you about his truck. this charred and blackened mess is all that remains of anthony santos' pickup. he says it blew up while parked in his driveway. >> extremely grateful i wasn't in the car with my granddaughter. >> reporter: a recall noticed warned that pickups like anthony's could catch fire. he said he didn't know to look for the recall while shopping. the used car dealer that sold him the truck didn't disclose it. if they had told you about that recall, wld you have bought that truck? >> absolutely not. >> reporter: the thick ng is, t deal are didn't have to. the national transportation

safety board told us car dealers are prohibited from calling new cars that have recalls but there is no restriction on selling used vehicles with recalls. >> it's recall car roulette. >> she says the law must change. >> deals are should always fix unrepaired safety recalls before they sell a car to a consumer. >> reporter: we wondered how many recalled cars are up for sale so we went shopping, undercover. at dealers around the bay area, our team searched the vehicle identification number on more than a thousand used car for sale. we found lots of known problems, doors that can suddenly fling open, steering wheels that might separate, engines that sometimes shut off mid drive. in all more than a hundred unfixed safety recalls on all types of vehicles, including one truck with three recalls. >> you don't know if the defect

is going to happen that day or maybe sometime down the road. >> reporter: some manufactures fix recalled cars for free. dealers tell us it's not that simple. some recalls, like the takata exploding air bags. they say it could disrupt the used car market. it declined to go on camera but told us it opposes new restrictions. they recommend you search the vin before you buy any car. if you find a recall, don't haggle for a low are price. -- lower price. >> it's what i call the death trap discount. >> reporter: just walk away. >> before you by any new or used car, check to see if it has any active recalls.

on the chase all week long i've been showing you inside the warriors' new home, the chase center arena. today even more progress was made at the 18,000 seat arena. workers will finish the details inside and out as the nearly 30 contracted vendors start moving in. it is complete with shops, a city that has restaurants, office space, retail space and about four years now will also have a hotel. all of the seven-figure, $2 million luxury suites are sold but there is one lower guest suite still available and that's upwards of a million. the golden state warriors will kick off the next season at the chase center in october. tomorrow i'll take you back inside and address some of the long-term issues fans have. their biggest questions, how

in china in 1843. >> the building of america. >> he was one of the hardest workers. >> reporter: carved across raw country, one railroad spike at a time. >> dynamite, laying the rails. >> reporter: her great grandfather was among thousands of chinese immigrants whose blood and sweat went into etching the transcontinental rail line connecting the east and west. >> he used horse and cart. there were 15 to 20,000 of them and they were relentless. >> reporter: these chinese laborers carved track across the nevadas, often taking on the most dangerous jobs. >> they blasted through mountains, 16 tunnels. >> reporter: but when the pacific railroad met in utah in 1869, there were no chinese faces in the photos, no memorial to the estimate d 1,200 chinese workers who died building that

railroad. >> i thought, hey, there was no statue for the people that actually perished. >> reporter: san francisco businessman steven lee was bothered by the lack of a fitting memorial to the chinese laborers, one of the only markers was a plaque at the rest stop on highway 80 near tahoe. so lee launched a fund-raising effort to build a monument and invited 18 artists to submit ideas, which the community voted on. last month as the nation marked the 150th anniversary of the laying of the golden spike, lee unveiled the monument, now temporarily housed in the california railroad museum in sacramento. >> look at the muscle here. this monument shows visually the type of people that they were. >> reporter: the sculpture by the chinese artist depicts the intensity of the laborer. >> he's got the right uniform. >> reporter: lee is now raising funds to install the statue at the gold run rest stop. >> it brings people from around
