degrees in campbell. normally, 78 degrees. we will not make it there today. actually a little bit cooler than we should be. it is going the heat up this weekend. we'll talk about that in a few minutes. mike, you're tracking a crash in san jose. >> better news here. southbound 85 as you approach the expressway. now just the slow lane blocked. no major injuries. there are some. a few flashing lights. generally northbound, it would be a commute in the south but we don't. a new crash toward san mateo. >> a peninsula police officer on the wrong side of the law.

he is facing accusations of trying to arrange an intimate encounter with a woman he thought was 16 years old. that's right. we are used underaged girls to catch predators. but police say the posing in this case was done by a concerned citizen tipster. "today in the bay" roz plater has more on how they managed to arrest him. >> reporter: this is san mateo police officer robert edward davies last month honored by his department for completing leadership training. but this is quite a different picture, a mug shot. the 40-year-old officer was arrested and is accused of trying to set up sex online with an underaged girl. investigators say it all started with a tipster who first set up a tape account on the tinder app claiming to be 19. say the tips chatting with davies. then switched to kik and told him she was only 16. investigators said davies asked

her to switch to snapchat. that's when the two talked about sex. >> they talked about engaging in sexual activity. they also learned, the tipster also learned that the suspect was a bay area police officer. >> this person knows exactly what he is doing. he covered his trail. >> reporter: there may have been a reason the officer wanted to switch to snapchat. >> what communication you have, pictures, story, video will disappear after a few seconds. >> reporter: but he may have calculated wrong. >> reporter: what's on the internet, it is stored on the servers. >> reporter: the police chief had this to say, this alleged conduct, if true, is in no way a reflection of all that we stand for as a department. roz plater, nbc bay area news. these crimes may be more common than you think.

1 out of 12 kids hav exchanged messages online. public safety vehicles in san francisco are set to get a new piece of technology. they will now be outfitted with tracking devices. according to the examiner, they have until june 2020 to make the changes. this started after a city supervisor noticed several payouts related to city vehicles. red flag conditions this weekend. a vegetation fire was contained in concord. you can see the video of the flames right there. it burned up to 12 acres east of willow pass road. they are urging everybody to be extremely careful outdoors. this could be the beginning of a very long wait -- or the end of a long way. this is after two decades.

today is also one of the best days of the week. yesterday was nice. today we are just matching that. reaching 77 in east san jose and gilroy. in the east bay, lower 80s with pittsburg reaching 81 degrees. hayward up to 71 degrees. and we're going to see upper 50s in half moon bay. low 60s in daly city. san francisco and the marina district, 59. mission district, 69. novato, up to 80. going to the giants game, first pitch 7:15. if you get there earlier you may get free ice cream from our treat truck. look for us all there. it is breezy. winds from thor and northwest. going into tonight, our winds will start to pick up once again. . we will have a breezy start to our saturday morning. then our temperatures heat up. today we go from the upper 70s to upper 80s to the mid-90s. really hot next week.

the flames scorched almost half a million acres. 300 structures were destroyed. sadly, one firefighter died and three others were hurt. so far there are no criminal charges. a fire drill is set to put people and technology to the test. the redwood city fire department will send out emergency evacuation alerts for people who signed up for it. emergency planners are not telling people the evacuation route or the meeting place beforehand because they say they want to test the alert system and the response. >> can't count on any particular road to be opened. so they will get their directions and use those directions and then thellend. >> feedback on what works and doesn't work will be used improve planning. the drill is happening in crestview in san carlos. firefighters say that's hig fi d area native is taking a san francisco company to court.
