and looking at the richmond to san rafael approach. not so bad today. it may be lighter here because of a problem. and good morning. i'm rahel solomon at cnbc headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. the unemployment rate remains unchanged at 3.6%, a 50-year low. job creation, though, slowed quite a bit. up by 75,000. we have been expecting more along the lines of 180,000. it adds to concerns that economic growth is slowing. ahead of opening bell, wall street reacting positively. here's why. toyota aims to have half its global sales to electric vehicles by 2025, five years

81 in pittsburg. pleasanton reaches 79. we'll be up to 71 in san mateo today. cool along the coast and bay area beaches with the mission district reaching 69. and 76 in mill valley today. and napa reaching 81. we're catching a break across the pacific northwest. you can see the clouds dipping into the north bay. much more of an ocean breeze picking up as a result of that. but once that subsides, we are going to have a fire weather watch in effect for all of these areas shaded in orange. that includes solano county and central valley with the winds kick willing up, especially tonight. light wind 15 to 20 miles per hour. winds increase tonight and continue throughout the day tomorrow. as it heats up, we go from 79 today to 89 tomorrow. and 96 on sunday. our inland valleys are really going to be hot. a spike in temperatures peaking

over here, southbound 680. a new crash. one vehicle was in the lane. hopefully cleared by the time we get back and hit refresh. we'll track that. i see a little slowing as folks merge from 84, pleasanton, livermore and dublin. good for the rest of the south bay drive. northbound routes, no problem. live camera north 101 at 680 and 280. back to you. >> thanks, mike. breaking news we have been following all morning here on "today in the bay". a brushfire breaking outovernight in south san jose. >> near the coyote creek golf course. khom, we hear you have good news for us right now. >> reporter: well, the good news is they got this out quickly. the grasses here are very dry. it looks like what happened the car was clipping along santa teresa boulevard going

northbound and hit this power pole, undercut it. the pole went down and the wires hit the dry grasses and it started burning up the hillside east of highway 101 and power lines just to the east of us. and it did burn about an acre of grasses. good thing it didn't get into the deeper brush just above that because it really could have taken off. san jose firefighters and cal firefighters got on this pretty quickly. they were able to contain it to about an acre. however, we did notice coming in today there is a local power outage. we don't know how widespread it is. there were no streetlights coming in. there were pg&e crews on hand. they just left a minute ago after they got the power to this down pole shut down. we do not know when it will be back on or how many people were affected. santa teresa is back open and cars are clipping along at highway speeds. it's no wonder so much damage

was done when the car hit the power pole. it looks like people go 55 to 60 down this road. good news, they got this out quickly. firefighters are going to be busy this weekend making sure little brush fires don't take off because we do have red flag conditions forecast for this weekend. live in south san jose. thom jensen, "today in the bay". thank you, thom. good work by firefighters. they are calling it a milestone. damian trujillo joins us. >> reporter: they were running phase one. now it's on bart putting the finishing touches on that extension. let me show you what this means. right now the bart in fremont. the new 10-mile extension will have a station in milpitas and another at berryessa in san

jose. this does not happen overnight. we have been talking about this since 1984 when the early studies took place. since then, this has been vta's project. bart now has control of phase one of this extension. it means now the agency can integrate the project with its main system. bart will now conduct test runs and perform their own safety checks. and perhaps most importantly for riders, bart will set the fares. it will now take you one hour to get to san francisco from the milpitas station. you can add five minutes when you take off from berryessa. then comes phase two. that will take bart through downtown san jose, santa clara. phase two is still in the engineering and preconductistru phase. so it is still years away.

his death happened a decade ago. but family, friends and the oakland community will come together to remember oscar grant. he was shot by a police officer 10 years ago at fruitvale station. his death sparked rioting and led to reforms in parking lot's police department. the family will present new street signs. san mateo police officer is on paid administrative leave this morning. he's accused of trying to meet a girl he thought was 16 for sex. a san jose police arrested robert davies yesterday in morgan hill. the alleged sexual conversation happened online in early may first on tinder, then kik and tick-tock.

and then on snapchat. the person chatting with the officer said she was 19, then 16. then they discovered he was a police officer. >> engaging in sexual activity. they also learned the tipster also learned that the suspect was a bay area police officer. >> this person knows exactly what he is doing. and he tried to cover his trail. >> police are just calling the woman a concerned internet tipster, nothing else. it does not reflect the values of the police department said the chief. according to the silicon valley internet crimes against children task force, one out of 12 kids have exchanged messages online with sexual predators. 1 in 20 have arranged meeting with someone they met online. and 3 out of 10 parents allow their kids to use the internet without any restrictions. new for you this morning, public safety vehicles in san francisco are set to get a new piece of technology. they will now be outfitted with tracking devices. according to the examiner, the departments have until the end

of june of next year to comply with the changes. a supervisor noticed a large amount of payouts directly related to lawsuits involving city vehicles. the data conducted will be sent to those departments. we now know what caused a large fire in california. the largest one in california's history. investigators say a spark from a hammer that landed in dry brush sparked what we know as the ranch fire. officials say it was driving a stake into the ground at the time. the ranch fire burned through three counties. flames covered almost half a million acres. 300 structures were destroyed. sadly, one firefighter died. and there were three other injuries. so far no charges have been filed. a fire drill on the peninsula is said to put people and technology to the test tomorrow morning. redwood city fire department will send out emergency evacuation alerts to people who signed up for it.

emergency planners aren't telling people the evacuation route beforehand. they want to test the alert system and response. >> you can't count on any particular road to be open. they will get their directions and then they will use those directions and they will tie in with them at the end. >> feedback on what works and what does not will be used to improve planning. the drill is happening in the crestview neighborhood in san carlos. firefighters say that's a high fire danger area. new this morning, a bike theft crackdown. cal train said it will add four more seats to each bicycle car in its new electrified fleet. the idea here is that the thefts will decrease with more people on board. 75 bikes were stolen last year. that's down from the last two years. it is set to debut in 2022. from cal train to driving on the freeways, mike, how is it looking on the freeway, mike?

new overnight, three people are hurt, two teenagers. one who was arrested. this is after a rollover crash in milpitas around 11:15 in the neighborhood near ed levin county park. police tell us the two teens in the vehicle were turning, clipped a jeep and crashed into a mini van and rolled over. we see the surveillance video here. if you look closely, you can see the headlights come to a crashing halt. here's a man who lives in the neighborhood. he actually heard what happened. >> a loud bang from inside the house. >> a person sitting in a parked car was also hurt. they found a liquor bottle next to the teen who was speaking to police. this time a hit and run in south san jose. this was just before midnight. a car hit a pickup truck at

almaden and redmond. the driver sped off but left a bumper behind, you see right there. two people went to the hospital with moderate areas. a big change in the $213 billion proposed budget for goof in newsom. he wants to spend more on his staff than governor brown did. specifically, he wants to use it to pay for more senior individuadvisers for things like wildfires. his office is not commenting on what the positions would be. organizers of a pride parade are reversing course on a controversial decision.

it does look like we could see fog rolling in within the next couple hours and lingering throughout the day. that is going to keep the city a little bit cooler. as we get a look at los gatos and our temperature trend for the day, a nice walk out the door. early activities are looking good. even as we go into the afternoon with most live sunny skies. it's just going to be a little bit more on the breezy side with our temperatures in the low 70s there by early afternoon. we're up to 77 for the high in east san jose, as well as gilroy. for the east bay, up to 81 in pittsburg, 80 in antioch. in san mateo, expect a high of 71 there. and some upper 60s in san francisco. this is the reason why we are getting cooling. an area of low pressure. we can see the rain and some of those showers across the pacific northwest. clouds dipping into the bay area. more of an ocean breeze.

onshore wind flow keeps it cool. once that ends, the fire weather will be an issue. there will be a fire weather watch in effect for solano county and extending into sacramento and the san joaquin valleys. as the winds pick up to 35 miles per hour. that's all throughout the weekend. it's going to be gusty and very dry. as we look at our wind speeds for today, most live a north westerly wind at 10 to 15 miles per hour. going into tonight, the winds will be picking up. it's going to be really breezy starting out tomorrow as our temperatures rise. upper 80s for the inland valleys. up to 98 monday. gradual cooling with mostly sunny skies all across the bay area.
