good morning to you. it is monday, june 10th. and it is going to be another hot one. it is heating up. triple digits over parts of the bay area. high temperatures, we'll be talking about that as well as the fire concerns throughout the bay area. we'll get to that? just a little bit. thank you so much for starting your morning here with us. i'm marcus washington. >> is i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. we want to talk about the weather. it is dangerous heat. >> dangerous heat today.

we have our first heat advisory in effect for the season. it was issued yesterday. that continues into today. and we're looking at highs reaching 100 degrees in downtown san jose. morgan hill reaches 103. for the inland parts of the east bay, up to 105 degrees this afternoon. even in observe land, reaching 92 degrees today. we're going to be in the low 80s at half moon bay with mid to upper 90s for parts of the peninsu peninsula. palo alto under a heat advisory. san francisco, in the 80s. novato reaching 99. we'll talk more about the temperatures and the smoke drifting in from a nearby wildfire. you're tracking a crash. >> still going on for the north bay. anywhere south of the golden gate and best of my knowledge bridges moving smoothly without any problem. we have a couple issues on the span. two disabled vehicles. one on the bay bridge, and one

approaching the golden gate. i want to make sure we lead off with this one. southbound 101, deadly crash cordero. lane closures for all three right lanes. traffic is so light right now. the coroner has been out since 3:00 in the morning. they are calling for another tow truck to get this vehicle out of the roadway. a couple of weeks in the area. tracking that south of the richmond-san rafael bridge. two disabled vehicles around the golden gate and bay bridge coming up. back to you. well, this morning the bay area fire danger is far from over with another hot day ahead. fire crews were kept extremely busy over the weekend. here's a map showing where brush fires broke out. hundreds of acres keeping firefighters busy working around the clock in the heat. this comes as the fire season gets under way. >> it is now official.

a grass fire in south san jose. malech fire. crews had it at about 70% contained. firefighters, though, still are on the scene right now. if you smell smoke in san jose, that is why. >> "today in the bay" pete suratos is live in concord where it's going to be topping the triple digits, pete. a hot one today? >> reporter: yeah. good morning to you, marcus. yeah, i won't have a need for the coat when the temperatures rise to the triple digits, as you mentioned. that will be the case across the bay area. concord and antioch and here in contra costa county. as a result, pg&e is taking precautionary measures as a result of the heat. the utility company cut out power over the weekend for about 1,000 customers in the area of the panoramic highway. it did the same thing in napa

county, cutting out power due to red flag warnings, affecting 1700 customers around the lake berryessa area. this could become the new normal, shutting off power when it comes to customers in those parts. >> we understand the need to take it off to prevent further fires, especially with the wind we have been having. >> we try to make sure we fill up the gas cans for the generator, that we have food, that we can eat without power, without a microwave, without a stove. >> reporter: when it comes to power being shut off, pg&e say it must meet criteria. it has to be a red flag warning, low humidity left. and live vegetation. pg&e does not have any planned shutoffs. we'll have more on the fires

from over the weekend in the next hour. live in concord, pete suratos for "today in the bay". >> thank you, pete. the sand fire is still burning in yolo county, but it is moving away from homes. it was 20% contained with 2,200 acres burned. the fire started near rusee, east of berryessa. some folks did head back to the area yesterday to check on things. they say they are reassured by what they saw. >> i saw yesterday when it started at 2:30. i knew it was going to be bad. they evacuated us. this is much better. yesterday was really bad. >> it moved across the bay area yesterday. we don't know how this particular fire started firefighters had a busy night in san francisco after a grass fire near candlestick point. no structures were in danger.

we don't know how many acres were burned. they are telling people avoid the area. panic at six flags magic mountain. this is video posted on social media showing people rushing away from a huge cloud of smoke. the fire started around noon yesterday in valencia, northwest of los angeles. the fire quickly spread to about 40 acres. park officials decided that the smoke was just too thick for visitors to continue on to magic mountain and hurricane harbor water park. so they closed everything down for the rest of the day. the parks were not damaged. and with another scorcher expected today and what could be a busy fire season ahead, this is a great time to download our free nbc bay area app. go there, download it and get the information as the weather heads towards your area. be on the know of what's going on. 4:36.

baseball star david ortiz said to be in stable condition and out of danger this morning after being ambushed by gunman in the anyone can republic. a warning here. we are about to show you new video from overnight showing you the moment ortiz was shot. this actually video from the game. but he was shot there. a suspect got off a motorcycle and walked into a club shooting ortiz point-blank from behind. it passed through ortiz but did not hit a vital organ. bystanders caught up with him, beat him severely. the suspect is also in the hospital. >> scary. just four days left until the end of the school year in the new haven district. teachers in uncity and hayward are expected to finally return to their classrooms today. they ratified the deal reached

good morning. i'm rahel solomon at cnbc headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. the markets are coming off the best week of the year. the dow showed a five-day winning streak, the longest stretch since january. reports on inflation, import prices, retail sales, production and consumer sentiment. american airlines extended cancellations of boeing 737 max

flights through september 3rd, which works out to 115 flights per day. american had previously canceled flights through mid-august. boeing has yet to complete a certification test flight. and also submit a software upgrade and new training procedures for approval. american says it will work closely with customers impacted by the cancellations. prices at the pump continue to fall. the average price dropping 90s cents to $2.84 a gallon. 17 cents lower than it was a year ago. analysts say the decline is due to lower oil prices which right now are hovering $54 a barrel. sorry to say gas is much higher in the bay area, averaging close to $4 a gallon. but you guys already knew that. >> yeah. pay for it every day. thank you very much. alert for the next 24 hours. for the north bay, smoke there. moderate air quality. inland east bay. it kind of gets tracked in the low-lying areas especially with not much wind. and also excessive heat. we have the heat advisory in effect for the inland parts of the bay. and for the central valley, you have excessive heat going on there. and for us, we're looking at temperatures up to 105 degrees. so be prepared for that as you make your way out the door this morning. on your way to the warm springs bart station. it already feels very warm. upper 60s stepping out the door. normally we're right at about 55 degrees. so this does feel warm. and going into the rest of the day. we see our temperatures quickly rising. it doesn't stop there. here's a look at our highs for today. up to 102 in east san jose. gilroy reaching 102. up to 105 in pittsburg, antioch,

concord. really hot today as well as the tri-valley. livermore reaching 105. in hayward today, 93 degrees. it will be warm with half moon bay reaching 82. 98 in palo alto. san francisco, up to 87 on the embarcadero. santa rosa, 101. 100 today in napa. going through the forecast, we will see this dangerous heat backing off. but it is still going to be hot tomorrow. we go from 103 today to 97 tomorrow. we'll still have that high fire danger with very low humidity and breezy winds. the weekend is looking nicer. warm, in the mid to upper 80s. san francisco cools off significantly. we'll see that fog returning to the coast. mike, you're concerned about an issue on the bay bridge. . >> i am, kari. we had an issue with the disabled big rig across the bridge itself. it just cleared, in fact.

on live camera, traffic starting to flow. it was right inside the tunnel there. traffic flowing in, doing the ripple back. the accordian. ease onto the act accelerator. that is the recovery across the bay bridge right now. it has caused the cash lanes to back up. over here, we're looking at the issue in the north bay. we continue to track this deadly crash. this is southbound 101 atom price drive. on-ramp is closed pause of the activity on the right lanes. three right lanes. it took the life of one person there. the activity is causing the slowdown. waiting for another tow truck. that is south of the folks coming off the richmond to san rafael bridge. you don't see much slowing on the sensors. the off-ramp is open, by the

way. anywhere south of there does move very smoothly. crash in san mateo. not a problem. heading north away from the bay bridge, we have a disabled big rig that should hopeful live get cleared very quickly. pack to you. all right. thank you very much. 4:51. heads-up if you commute in the south bay. this is what the roadway looked like at san felipe last night. both directions were closed yesterday after a car knocked down a power pole. firefighters say the crash trapped the driver, who is now in the hospital. pg&e crews are stretched thin because of the heat. so the repairs might not be complete until 8:00 this morning. later this morning, the judge in the ghost ship warehouse fire trial is expected to make a key ruling on potential testimony. the defense wants jurors to hear from a witness who claims she overheard a group of men claiming they started the deadly 2016 fire in oakland. defense attorneys plan to start presenting their case today.

derrick almena and max harris face 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter, one for each person who died in the fire. happening tonight, palo alto creating a certain area for rv parking and restricting it everywhere else. they are looking at an area where the water treatment once sat on san antonio road. they want to clear people who are parking on el qcamino real. he said it is too expensive to live in the area. >> i'm trying to improve myself and keep this clean. it's just the one way i can stay at this moment of the life. i had a parking ticket for $68. >> leaders approved a similar
