an excessive heat warning in effect for the areas shaded in pink. everywhere else we have a heat advisory. notice today it does not include san francisco, which yesterday had its hottest day ever in june, reaching 100 at sfo. so it will be slightly cooler there today. but still a hot one. as we go throughout the day, temperatures quickly ramping up, especially in the inland valleys. at 11:00, we are seeing 90s. reaching into the triple digits by early afternoon. that's where we will stay in concord, livermore, danville, antioch into the rest of the afternoon. so i'll have more details, an hour-by-hour outlook, and cooling in the forecast. mike, things seem to be clear on the roads right now. >> emeryville toward san francisco. beautiful clear view because of the temperatures, the fleece jacket sales probably weren't as good yesterday. a smooth drive over toward san

francisco. no delays on the approach. great deal for contra costa county. construction crews scattered around the bay. nimitz, construction heading down past the coliseum. so far speeds are green. breaking news overnight, two small earthquakes you might have felt on opposite sides of the bay. one was 3 phone 5, 20 miles south of gillry a little before midnight. the other one struck at the same time near the guyseeysers. the shaking was man made and not an active fault. we will be watching for the big one. the transbay transit center apparently now as the green light to reopen. the opening may still be a few weeks away.

independent panel of engineers met last night and determined the repairs are sound. this comes eight months after two cracked steel beams first shut down the terminal. recent inspections uncovered new problems with cracked chrome beam steel. the overnight board said last week it was waiting for a peer review panel to give its approval. it may take up to four weeks to prepare for a reopening. pete suratos is looking into this story and will have a live report. >> a live look at oracle where warriors are said to have one final dance with everything on the line in what is soon to be their former home.

good morning. i'm rahel solomon at cnbc headquarters. wall street is set for a higher open this morning. stocks rose yesterday. trade tensions between the u.s. and mexico at ease. concerns remain between the u.s. and china. the dow notching the six-day winning streak. that's its longest since may of last year. amazon is launching a credit card for people with bad or no credit.

it offers people who may not otherwise be eligible for an amazon rewards card. the so-called secured card has no annual fee and offers 5% cash back. customers do have to put down a security deposit. that becomes their line of credit. the card can only be used for things from amazon or amazon pay. digital may soon replace physical wallets. half the world's population, or roughly 4 billion people, will be using digital wallets in the next five years. the strongest growth from online purchases. and spending is expected to jump to $6,400 by 2024. consumers are becoming more comfortable as security features improved. . >> and we get more forgettable. >> you know what, rahel and kris. it was asking me to put the

it is 4:46 right now. you can't tell from this picture how warm it is outside. this is going to be another day of dangerous heat. kari is tracking that. we're watching for fire danger as well. make sure you get yourself ready before you head out the door with your sunscreen and maybe an extra water bottle this morning. all right. it is graduation season. we're at full swing. and this family has a lot of gifts to buy. this is jake, lexi, hannah and rachel jones. they are quad rupe lets who all graduated from randolph-macon college. two of them have the same major. they all lived in adjoining dorms. what makes it more incredible, they spent a month in intensive care when they were firstborn. the parents's smiles have to be even bigger. >> and their bank accounts are getting bigger after this. >> you're off the payroll. >> congratulations to all of them. all right.

so today we're going to be dealing with it yet again. the hot weather out there. >> yeah. wonder if there's still graduations going on around the bay area and still having to deal with that heat. that's on going to be the issue. here's a live look outside at walnut creek as the sun starts to rise. it is already a clear start. we had a few high-level clouds rolling by. as we check out our temperature trend, at 5:00, we're at 70 degrees. and it cools down just a little bit armed sunrise. that's the only break we get. it is going to be hot once again. look at 11:00. we're at 89 degrees. and this is the way we start out the day in san jose. and still dealing with some drifts of smoke. we know that that gives us some colorful sunrises. it is harmful to breathe in. inland parts of the east bay, as well as the santa clara valley, will have the most unhealthy air quality today due to the nearby smoke that's been drifting in from wildfires and brush fires.

our high temperatures still reaching into the upper 90s today. but it's only coming down a degree or two from where we were yesterday. so it is still going to be unbearably hot. we set records everywhere except for livermore and san jose. so i think we'll be very close again today. antioch reaching 103 degrees. and half moon bay, we are seeing temperatures coming down just a bit. we will reach up to 76. still 93 in redwood city. 84 in the mission district. it doesn't look like we will be as hot as yesterday in san francisco. while the north bay still reaching into the upper 90s, near 100. very hot high pressure overhead right now. as we go into tomorrow, that moves off to the east and will allow for a stronger ocean breeze to at least help give the coastal area some relief. it does stay hot inland. more hot weather on the way for the weekend as high pressure builds once again. sunday we will start to feel it.

as we look at our seven-day forecast, 100 degrees inland today. look at the dropoff. 90 tomorrow. 86 on thursday. by friday, we're up to 84. and the coolest day will be saturday. 82 degrees. but still above normal. but a huge improvement from the way we started this week, mike. and the road crews, are they on the move? >> they are. over here, 101, we had everybody over for the right lane just before the commercial. if you can make out the flashing light, that's the embarcadero. that is one area where the crews are on the move. we see a little slowing pop up through oakland as well. we'll talk about that in just a second. fremont, southbound 880, right around alvarado and the dumbarton bridge. the crew called for a traffic break. a little slowing there. no major problems getting to the bay bridge. south from the bay bridge, oakland, past the coliseum, we

had construction as well as a crash at 66 just about right here. i don't see slowing, so it may have completely moved to the shoulder. a good volume there. cash lanes starting to fill in. we have one cash lane on the left and one on the right that is not yet open. the transit agencies all open for service. no delays for bart. back to you. all right. thanks, mike. well, new overnight, firefighters are investigating a late night fire. this is in san leandro. they posted this video of the fire. it started a little before 11:00 last night on marina boulevard. no one was injured. firefighters said it once housed a poultry company. it has been a homeless encampment. new this morning in eastern contra costa county, one person is in the hospital. it happened near empire and hemlock.

this is new video showing that mangled car that struck a pole there. rescuers had to use the jaws of life on the driver, who was then airlifted to the hospital. a second person in the car also was injured but had minor injuries. according to police, witnesses saw the car racing along the street when the crash happened. while the video does show a beer bottle inside the car, police have not said whether the driver was impaired. a look at sfo. if you're hoping to get champagne or sandwich on your next flight, you're going to have to pack your own. 2,100 airline food workers will decide today whether or not to go on strike. employees in 20 other cities are expected to cast similar ballots the next two weeks. talks are at a stand still. no word when a strike would happen. sonoma county supervisors face a tough decision with nearly 100 county jobs on the

line. those positions might be eliminated to achieve a balance budget. right now there is a $14 million gap in what is being proposed to funding requests and available revenue. the health department may see the most significant cuts with 44 jobs at stake. >> coming up here on "today in the bay", lgbtq center vandalized in the south bay during pride month. and it's not the first time. what investigators are saying happened there two weeks ago. and happening now, international tensions are rising as russia says it intercepted u.s. and swedish recon planes over the baltic scene. russia scrambled the jets to escort the spy planes back over the russian border. we are waiting to see how the white house will respond.

a southern californian man survives an attack from a wild bear and her cub. the man encountered a mama bear and her cub in his backyard. the small dog question after it and mama bear attacked the dog. he kicked the bear and the bear slashed him. bear attacks are extremely rare in that area. the man was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. >> look how bitty that cub is. san jose police say there
