right now at 4:30, two breaking stories developing. first in the south bay, lanes of 680 back open, after a shooting on the freeway. and police activity in the east bay, we are tracking a search for a suspect. a very busy tuesday morning. first want to say good morning to you and thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. we'll get to all those breaking stories in just a moment. first we want to get to meteorologist kari hall looking at the forecast for today. another nice one? >> a nice but very warm day compared to a cooldown we'll have later on in the week. as we start out this morning, mostly clear skies. that's a live look outside over san jose. as we head over to campbell, we'll be at 60 degrees stepping out the dood

reaching the today and even some low 90s in some of our east bay forecast and the cooldown coming up. mike, you're looking at oakland. >> a beautiful look, the nimitz past the coliseum northbound 880 at high street. a road crew cleared a few minutes ago and there will be patches with crews for the nimitz as well as 24. the sensors are blocked out again. i cleared them. the crew that was scheduled to be there for a while cleared a few minutes early so i'll give that the all clear. ignore the red there. through the rest of the bay, green speed sensors all over the tri-valley with a little slowing out of the altamont, typical. this area of 068 as we mentioned is opened and moving smoothly but we h of big news overnight and for the details and breaking news, we hand it back to you. that is the breaking news we're following, thank you, mike. a deadly shooting shutting down interstate 680 in started. >> "today in the bay's" kris

sanchez is live there now. i know the road is back open but what about a lingering threat for the drivers in that area? >> reporter: well, hi there. we drove right through that stretch of interstate that was shut down for about five hours overnight, and we do know that the person who was in that vehicle did die on the scene there. what we don't know is who shot that person or whether that person was targeted. i do have officer ross lee here, chp. you're processing the information you found at the scene. is there anything that indicates an immediate danger to the public? >> not at this time. we don't have any information so we'd be reluctant to say that we have anything that would be an immediate danger. as you said, we are processing, we have completed processing the scene at this time. investigators are working backward to see if we can identify a suspect. >> reporter: do we know if the person was shot on the freeway, othat?they were driving >> the preliminary information we have at this time suggests that this incident did occur on

the freeway. we do not have concreteinrmatio incident or shooting. the information is still progressing and were taking that information in and gathering what we can. >> reporter: all right, so you saw that processing there at the scene. what we know is the freeway was shut down by capitol and landis. officer lee told me the vehicle was found closer to the landis avenue exit. they shut is down south of there to try to find any available clues. when the officer and chp has a description of that the is or that vehicle, we will pass that along to you. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> thank you, kris. we'll continue to check back with you. at 4:33, also breaking news just in to our newsroom, a homicide investigation under way in san mateo county,tear gulch road west of wood side. the area is blocked off san mateo county was killed.ay t the scene and he'll join u at 5:00 a.m. we're also following breaking news in alameda county

where there's a large amount of police acactivity, this is new video just into our newsroom. there are two different scenes here. the first near 106th and bancroft, near the san leandro and oakland border. the second is near wynton and shabott and hayward. "today in the bay's" sharon katsuda is headed to the scene and will have a live report at 5:00. a united flight from paris was supposed to land at sfo overnight but it's still not here. about 30 minutes into that flight, that plane was rerouted back to paris. a passenger said plastic on a meal touched the oven and caused an odor. he posted a photo on twitter of a fire crew on board once the plane landed back in paris. no word yet on when the flight will arrive in san francisco. breaking news you saw last ils night at 11:00.

deputies are revealing more about a devastating explosion in the east bay. two containers ignited inside a home along elizabeth way in union city. a bomb squad had to be called to clear the scene. two men were hurt and taken to the hospital. one was released. the other still in a burn unit at last check. no word on his condition. the family living inside plan to move into a trailer. police say no criminal activity is suspected. video of a mountain lie yoen lion is putting neighbors in morgan hill on alert. those images not the only sightings in the south bay the past week. >> "today in the bay's" ian is tracking the big cat this morning. >> reporter: the mountain lion was seen walking along this path here and took a turn and disappeared into the night. the homeowner kurt layman knew the animals are around. he just never wanted to see one outside his front door. the mountain lion was caught on camera and caught the attention of the homeowner. >> sunday morning when we

checked it out, we noticed we had a visitor. >> reporter: kurt layman has lived in this area west of morgan hill for 22 years and just had the cameras installed all over his house a few months ago. >> we know just down below ten minutes before he showed up. >> reporter: he sent the video to neighbors who told him they saw one several times recently in this remote area. >> there's been, you know, deer ock but yeah, first time r for us to see it. >> reporter: one week before in east los gatos layla artune took this video of a mountain lion, she claims it's the same one that tried chasing her dog three months ago. morgan hill police said if you encounter a mountain lion, don't run, try to appear larger and face the animal, make eye kt contact, and pick up small children. technology enables us to see what we couldn't before, and the

ough, did y see the moon glowing bright orange and yellow. it is called the strawberry moon, named from the old farmer's almanac. some native american tribes believed it indicated the best time of the year to gather wild strawberries. you know who has a garden of strawberries? kari hall. i do, too, but. >> miniature strawberries. >> little bitty. >> how are they looking now? >> pretty good. >> are you keeping the birds away? >> i did. i got a tip on that. so far they're not pecking at it and i've got some tomatoes, too. >> i saw that. >> a harvest at your house coming. >> harvest time. it's really warm so everything's popping in the garden, as you're heading out this morning and getting the day started. we have all clear skies. it's going to be another hot day, but san francisco keeps it cool with a very weak ocean breeze. inland areas are heating up.

heading over to brentwood the temperatures in the mid-60s. at 8:00 at 71 degrees and low 80s already at 11:00, it will be hot. high temperatures for today reaching 87 in cupertino. up to 88 in morgan hill. some low 90s for the east bay, as you head over toward pittsburgh, antioch, livermore, some low 90s there. hayward stays in the upper 70s. this is a different weather setup than last week. we have enough of a westerly wind flow that keeps the coastal areas cool and it wouldn't be as hot. we're still talking about 80s and 90s, while san francisco stays in the 60s for today. we'll also see 60s in point reyes but the valleys will make it into the mid 80s today and some upper 90s again today in ukiah. this is a live look over the south bay, as you're getting dressed, it's a day for wearing

the summer gear especially in the valleys, maybe a sleeveless shirt and shorts. because of the cool start, grab a jacket to start out. it's all about the layers. so we're sg it's giving us that weak onshore flow, but the basic dominant wind pattern for the inland areas is blowing farther to the south and southwest. as we go throughout the next couple of days, our winds will shift. we'll get a stronger ocean breeze, that onshore wind flow, and so that's going to make it feel a little bit more comfortable on thursday into friday, but the high pressure does build once again, and it heats up our temperatures as we go into the weekend. and summer officially begins this friday, so we're in the last few days of spring. it's going to feel more like the middle of summer, though, with some low 90s inland and reaching into the mid 80s by the end of the week, and then back up into the upper 80s for the weekend. not much of a change there, but a very nice forecast, and mike, crere starting out on the of a

north of willow amootndy. southbound you can't see the cars behind the trees there but looks like a temporary traffic break toward university because they're doing some work in the center divide. they're releasing a couple of cars. you'll see a little slowing on the sensors in this area on both directions, there you go. over here the continued investigation so highway 35 is closed at bear gulch, it's relatively remote compared to the rest of the commute. we'll have follow-ups. pete is out there right now. as we look at the rest of the bay, a smooth flow of traffic. 680 did reopen after the deadly incident over there as well overnight. we continue to follow that with kris, and a smooth drive through contra costa county, with just a little blip here and there for highway 4 out of antioch. back to you. >> thanks, mike. 4:49. this morning a humpback whale that drew big crowds in the lagoon off of alameda is gone. allie the whale showed up a few

weeks ago. scientists believe she was resting in the lagoon because she was malnourished. the fact that she swam away might be a sign that allie is stronger and feeling better. be careful because the whale might be somewhere else in the san francisco bay. president trump is making a new immigration threat. >> he's tweeting that i.c.e. will remove millions of undocumented immigrants next week. the president writing "they will be removed as fast as they come in. mexico, using their strong immigration laws, is doing a very good job of stopping people." >> he went on to add "long before they get to our southern border, guatemala is getting ready to sign a safe third agreement. the only ones who don't do anything are democrats in congress." >> oakland mayor libby schaaf was quick to reply, tweeted "if you continue to threaten, target and terrorize families in my community and if we receive credible information, you already know what our values are

and good morning to you on this tuesday, taking a live look out in san jose. look at that. i love the way it's just lit up. hmm. makes me want to go back to bed, but we can't. 4:54 for you right now. this morning, a self-proclaimed nazi sympathizer from concord arrested for threatening to commit a mass shooting, she's out on bail. police releasing this booking photo of ross barka, pleaded not guilty to making criminal threats about planning a shooting at a synagogue. he is due back in court later this month. in a few hours one of the defendants in the ghost ship warehouse fire trial is set to resume testimony. >> max harris is one of two people facing 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter, one for each person who died in the

2016 fire. harris admitted to lying to a police officer claiming that no one was inside. he said he feared he would be kicked out. harris also said he managed to live there rent free in exchange for doing work for the building's owner. he also testified the party was planned by other tenants. this morning, the dmv is working to recover after a string of computer problems. for at least the eighth time in the last 18 months, computer problems caused huge delays at offices up and down the state yesterday. at one point in san francisco, the line wrapped all the way arou tmars are calling for admv. a nearly $1 billion change is coming to the oakland skyline. kaiser is building what is expected to be the tallest office building in this city, building a new high-rise on telegraph avenue near the paramount theater. it will be 28 stories.
