danger to the driving public. maybe you're headed out the door right now. chp says this seems to be an isolated incident, but what we don't know is why that person was shot and whether that person was targeted on purpose. what we do know is that the chp found the driver in his car unresponsive in the center median of 680 near landis avenue in milpitas. the driver could not be revived by paramedics. his name will not be released until his family is notified. that was just before 11:00 last night. that's when chp shut down the highway to look for clues south of the scene, so between landis avenue and capital avenue to the south for nearly five hours, four hours. at this point, chp officer ross lee says the shooting does seem to be an isolated incident. >> we don't have any information, so we'd be reluctant to say that we have anything that would be an immediate danger. as you said, we are processing, we have completed processing the scene at this time, and now
5:02 am
investigators are going to start working backward to see if we can identify a suspect. >> reporter: so the roadway just reopened about 4:00 this morning. at this point, the chp says the officers are processing those clues from the scene. they're not ready to release a suspect description or a vehicle description at this point. they don't have any cameras in the area that they operate, so they will be looking to see if there are any other cameras in the area they might be able to access, but in the meantime, they say that if you were in the area, 680 northbound near capital avenue, and you saw something suspicious around 10:00 last night, that you should give them a call. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> all right, kris, thank you. we have more breaking news to tell you about at 5:02 this morning. a homicide investigation is under way in san mateo county. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos joins us live near that scene. what can you tell us? >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, laura and marcus. we just got this update from the san mateo county sheriff's department. they're saying that a sheriff's deputy was responding to a

5:32 am
in this case here on 106th avenue and bancroft avenue. this is where the suspect vehicle we're told crashed. now, let's take a look at some of the video. we hear there was an officer-involved shooting in hayward earlier this morning. roads were closed off near wynton and cabot. we hear the suspect vehicle ended up at bancroft and 106th avenue in the oakland area a couple hours ago. we're not told of any injuries so far, but we are still trying to confirm all of these details with the oakland and hayward police departments. reporting live in oakland, i'm sharon katsuda, "today in the bay." >> certainly still active there, sharon, thank you. and more breaking news, this tuesday morning, a deadly shooting overnight shutting down interstate 068 in milpitas for hours. the roadway is now open but the investigation is just getting started. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us live from there right now. the road is back open but is there a lingering threat for those drivers in that area or do we know if this was a targeted incident?
5:33 am
>> reporter: it has to be a nerve-racking morning if you are a commuter who takes 680 northbound through milpitas. all clues point to the fact this was a random incident and isolated to this one incident. let's show you what we know. the chp found a driver, a young man unresponsive in his car in the center median of 680 near the landis avenue exit in milpitas. the driver could not be revived by paramedics. he died at the scene. his name will not be released until his family is notified. that was just before 11:00 last night. the chp shut down the highway to look for clues south of that scene, between landis avenue, south at capitol avenue, for nearly four hours. at this point, chp officer ross lee says the shooting appears to be isolated. >> we don't have any information so we'd be reluctant to say that we have anything that would be an immediate danger. as you said, we are processing,
5:34 am
we have completed processing the scene at this time. investigators are working backward to see if we can identify a suspect. >> reporter: the roadway reopened just before 4:00 this morning. at this point, the chp tells us that officers are processing clues from the scene and they are not ready to release a description of the suspect nor the suspect vehicle. if you were in the area between 10:00 and 11:00 last night, and you saw something that was out of the ordinary, the chp would like for you to give them a call. i did post details and specific locations in my twitter feed if you want to check that out first. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." also breaking, a homicide investigation is under way in san mateo county. this happened just before 1:00 this morning on skyline boulevard near bear gulch road. this is west of woodside. that area is blocked off right now. the san mateo county sheriff's department telling us that a man was killed. we're working to find out more details.
5:35 am
"today in the bay's" pete suratos is at that scene. we'll have a live report for him coming up at 6:00. in the meantime a search is on for a suspect wanted in connection to a shooting in the caldecott tunnel. the chp says someone shot a driver in the head sunday night. a bullet grazed the passenger, but he's going to be okay. the tunnel of course connects highway 24 from oakland to orinda. so far, there's no update on the condition of the driver. this morning, a self-proclaimed nazi sympathizer from concord who was arrested for threatening to commit a mass shoot something out on bail. police releasing that booking photo there of ross barka. he pleaded not guilty to making criminal threats in an online chat room will planning a shooting at a synagogue. he is due back in court later this month. in a few hours one of the defendants in the ghost ship warehouse fire trial is set to resume testimony. max harris is one of two people facing 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter, one for each person who died in the 2016 fire.

5:37 am
a woman took this video of that mountain lion, on her property on june 9th. >> such big cats out there. >> meow. this morning a humpback whale that drew big crowds in the lagoon off of alameda is gone. they nicknamed her allie. show showed up at the shoreline about three weeks ago. scientists believe she was resting in the lagoon because she was malnourished. researchers at the marine mammal center say the fact that she swam away might be a sign that allie is stronger and feeling better. but they are warning ships to be careful because the whale might be somewhere else in the san francisco bay. a united airlines plane is out of service today after it got an unexpected passenger, we're talking about those ants, yeah. turns out those ants spilled out of an overhead bag. who would carry ants with them on a plane? >> i don't know, honey. get it? >> the creepy crawlers were

5:39 am
the good news i think that only affects one section of that line. the bad news out of the gate, equipment problems starting with a 20-minute delay out of this section. that may send a few more folks onto the roadway, 808 and 680, moving smoothly so we should be okay. look at the green around the bay, a smooth drive all around. at approaches toward the bay bridge great but a new crash reported on the approach around grand avenue. speed sensors not slowing and don't see anything in our live camera. there may be another incident highway 24. despite the fact we don't see the crash there, we see the big backup and you have to wait. >> all right, can't wait until the weekend, getting closer. >> we are getting closer. we made it past monday. a lot of kids out of school and yes the first week of summer, weekend of summer. starts on friday, and then look at how warm it's going to be. very much like today, so we're headed into the upper 80s in the inland areas, and so we're going to keep that on sunday as well.
