degre degrees. concord is hot there today, by 9:00, we're already at 70 degrees, headed into the upper 80s. you can see the temperatures updating there. so once again, hot temperatures near 90 in some of our valleys. more in a few minutes. mike, you're starting out with a delay and commuters through fremont. >> it's great to see the real time updates for the traffic and weather systems. the live look shows you traffic flowing smoothly for the nimitz freeway, through fremont. t toake the freeway instead of the b.a.r.t. system. ten-minute delays reported between fremont and warm springs along this portion of the line. some sort of equipment issue t if that builds. the rest of the system going through this portion of the bay moves smoothly and on time from what i understand. the drive we have this delay for south 680, coming into fremont, from the northern part of the tri-valley. a slower drive, a crash reportedly on the shoulder at

andrade but i see that build out of pleasanton toward sunol. the rest of the east bay looks great, so does contra costa county, in toward the bay bridge, where the metering lights are on. we have issue for alameda county. back to you. >> that's right, that's our breaking news we're following this morning. new information just coming in to our newsroom. police are looking for a suspect, after an officer-involved shooting in hayward, led to a chase and heavy police presence, this is near the oakland and san leandro border. >> "today in the bay's" sharon katsuda is live from the scene, following this since we came on air. what is the latest, sharon? >> reporter: laura and marcus we've seen a lot of activity within the past half hour during our last live shot you saw, hayward police just arriving and out of those two trucks that you see there, the hayward police department trucks, the black one and the white one, about 30 officers came out. you can see some of them still here on the street, dressed in camouflage attire. now the rest of the officers progressed down the street

there, about 30 of them, and we do see some near the buildings down the street. this all took place it looks like they are looking for a suspect right now in this area. we hear there was an d earlier . roads were closed off near wynton and cabot. we hear the suspect vehicle ended up at bancroft and 106th avenue in the oakland area a couple houshz ars ago. police arrested one suspect so far and behind me, they are moving in on possibly another suspect. reporting live in oakland, i'm sharon katsuda, "today in the bay." >> thanks for the latest, sharon. more breaking news to tell you about, a homicide investigation is under way in san mateo county. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos joins us live near that scene. what can you tell us, pete? >> reporter: yes, good morning to you, laura and marcus. it's an active scene, the homicide investigation along skyline boulevard before you hit reed's roost road, incorporating

part of san mateo county. you see an active scene here, guys, as we're still gathering morels, we stay here on the scene. according to the sheriff's office, they say roughly around 11:00 p.m. a sheriff's deputy spotted a body on the side of skyline boulevard southbound before you hit reed's roost road, a deceased male victim. that's why we have this homicide investigation that we just showed you guys moments ago. here is a lieutenant with the sheriff's department explaining the discovery of this body in a bit more detail. >> a deputy who was in the area responding to a completely unrelated non-emergency call happens to see a person lying close to the side of the road, and went to investigate >> reporter: the sheriff's office doesn't have much of a description for the victim outside of it being a male victim. no information on any potential suspect or suspects at this time but clearly a homicide investigation. as we take you back out here live to the scene, no word on

when these roads will reopen. any information anyone has to help with this case, contact the sheriff's office. we're live here in san mateo county, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> pete, thanks so much for that update. back to more breaking news, this a deadly shooting on 680 in the south bay, but the lanes have opened up. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez live for us at chp headquarters in san jose. kris? >> reporter: hi there. like you said, the roadway did reopen just around 4:00 this morning, and the chp tells us that the man who was shot and killed on the freeway, it appears that that was an isolated incident. what we know at this point is that the man was found in his car, in the center median in 680, on 680 near the landis avenue exit in milpitas. the driver could not be by paramedics, and his name will not be released until his family is notified. that was just before 11:00 last night. at that point, chp shut down the highway to look for clues south of the scene and you see in the

video, officers sweeping the scene there between landis avenue, down south to capital avenue for nearly four hours. at this point chp officer ross lee says the shooting appears to be a random incident. the roadway did reopen just before 4:00 this morning. the chp says they don't have a suspect description at this point nor a suspect vehicle description at this point, but if you were in the area of 680 northbound near landis avenue, right around the 10:00 to 11:00 hour and you saw something out of the ordinary, they would like to hear from you. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> all right, kris, thank you. 6:05 for you right now. it's an historic first of its kind vote set for later today. san francisco supervisors will consider banning the sale of ecigarettes. if approved, the city would be the first in the country to do so. supporters say the ecigarette companies aggressively target kids. they say it's a gateway for teens to start picking up the habit. however, some people we spoke with who use ecigarettes say

that it's having the opposite effect for them. >> the big problem is that our young people are targeted. we've had researchers and people in the medical field go out to schools and collect dozens up to hundreds of ecigarettes around our middle schools and our high schools. >> i've been off of cigarettes for over a year now, and i have not picked up another cigarette. i've been vaping. my lungs cleared up, no more phlegm coming out. >> after today's vote, the ban must go before a second reading before the board. it will take about six months for any type of ban to go into effect. >> it is 6:06 right now. this morning, b.a.r.t. is launching a new parking feature that lets riders from carpool to certain stations pay for parking spots through the transit agency's app. the stations include dublin pleasanton, orinda, antioch and warm springs. it is testing it out before rolling it out to more later this year. the new details of concerns from b.a.r

specifically these seats at the macarthur station in oakland. you can see the metal strips sticking out of the seats. we reached out to b.a.r.t. who says they're all in an effort to declutter the plaza while as an armrest and minimizes the ability for one person to take over the entire bench. the strips are made of galvanized steel which reduces vandalism, deters skateboarding and allows for easy cleaning. >> 6:07 for you right now. contra costa county could soon see a buildin happening today, supervisors are set to vote on a new accessory dwelling unit incentive program, adus are better known as granny units. that measure will not only benefit knewly built units but it will waive all penalty fees if the owner already built the units without permits. san francisco and san jose have also taken similar steps to promote the granny units. and somed so news, the tree that inspired the

famous children's story "the lorax" is gone forever. it fell overnight last week outside of dr. seuss' home in la jolla. that tree was healthy at the time. the city plans to plant a new tree and hopes to repurpose the trunk. >> no more tree for you and me. >> but yet, we can see kari has the forecast that we can smile and make us glee. i don't know, i tried and it just went down. >> we had it going. we had it going. >> at the top, it was pretty good. >> thank you. >> all right, this morning as we're getting up and out the door, here's a live look in fremont. we start out with nice temperostles clear skies here, but it is cloudy and cooler along the coast and that's going to keep our temperatures from getting too hot but we're still warming it up in fremont, reaching into the low 80s by early afternoon and so if you're on your way out to the warm springs b.a.r.t. station once again, some 80s in the forecast today, as we head into the upper 80s for many of

us in the inner bay, and then low 90s inland. more in a few minutes. mike getting out the door, just a couple of issues as you head out. >> one is the fremont and warm springs line there. you're talking about the great temperatures at the warm springs station, that's good news, because b.a.r.t. is still reporting possibly ten minute delays along the stretch between fremont and warm springs. that's the only delay for that system or any of the transit system. great option to avoid the backup at the bay bridge. the metering lights are on. a little build through concord out of pittsburg and bay point, nothing unusual about that pattern. being a tuesday, we expect heavier volume than yesterday, that's what we see. we see it over 680, both they meet because it's just before the crash, which really bogging down toward where continues over on the shoulder at andrade. all the reports i find say and confirm the report of trash on the shoulder is accurate, but look at that, it's a

happy it is 6:13, and it's a clear start inland. in martinez we're getting ready for a day that's a little bit hotter than yesterday. we do start outit temperatures and comfortable through at least about noon, and then after that, all bets are off. it does stay very hot throughout much of the afternoon. we'll talk about what's ahead with a slight cooldown in the forecast coming up in less than five minutes. horrible travel time right now for south 680 and for west 84 as we showed you on the maps, that crash just south of there at andrade, 680 is causing an issue. lanes reported clear over the last few minutes. a smoother drive after we saw some slowing on the san mateo bridge.

moon bay, reaching 62 today, because of that fog lingering just off the coast. while we keep it warm in palo alto, reaching 83, we're going to stay in the 60s in san francisco, with a brisk westerly wind, and in the north bay, we are going to see some slightly warmer temperatures especially in ukiah today reaching 97 degrees. one place where you can cool off and take the kids to the game tonight, the a's first pitch at 7:07. it's going to be at about 66 degrees. you will need a jacket. it's going to be breezy and cool out there. we've had just enough of an onshore wind flow to keep san francisco and the coastal areas cool, while the inland areas are going to heat up. the high pressure backs off a bit, we'll see some slightly cooler temperatures over the next several days but then that high pressure builds once again and makes itlose in time for the weekend. we're going to be heating up as we get more of a northerly wind and not that onshore ocean breeze. we're in the last few days of

spring. summer officially begins this friday, and 8:58 a.m. as we go into the weekend, it's going to we'll keep it cooler in h upp san francisco, most of us in the 60s. mike, you have a slow drive through the tri-valley. >> i do -- i don't, i am a sympathize we are folks who drive through the tri-valley. green pretty much everywhere, orange bits for the hayward drive as well as across the san mateo bridge but the big deal is right here for southbound 680, we are still seeing a slow drive as you approach the merge with 84 westbound. speeds are starting to improve a tad bit. a crash there at andrade is over on the shoulder but i found out late details, there was some activity in lanes for a good 15 minutes, that caused the big backup as we had the build. partners at waze timed out a few options. the purple route here saves you 20 minutes from being on the main 680 route that does jog oust off the freeway to give y local routes wherever you go.

a major announcement from facebook many say is determined to shake up the world's financial system and compete with bitcoin. the social media giant will soon roll out a new digital currency. nbc's tom costello has more. >> reporter: good morning. good morning everybody out there in the bay area and one of your big brothers in the backyard, facebook is launching this huge digital currency effort. the bottom line here is while this company dominates the world in terms of social media, 2.4 billion monthly users, it wants to create an online digital currency that will dominate the world's currency, and it will all be on your phone so for example much like apple pay, when you click a button and you can pay virtually or digitally, the whole idea would be you would do the exact same thing with a new currency called libra, but the currency would be backed up by the dollar, euro and swiss franc so hopefully more stable than bitcoin. wait a minute, my dollar and credit card works fine and by the way my apple pay works just

fine. why do we need a global currency? facebook clearly wants to compete in the amazon marketplace. they want to try to take a bite out of amazon. but in addition, facebook believes that there is a place now for a single global currency that's digital, no cash, no coins, and it will go across borders without transaction fees, without having to pay an extra fee because you're trading money. one single currency the world over. the question this morning really is, given all of their security and privacy issues, would you trust facebook with your money? that's the issue that most security analysts are asking this morning. but it's got the world talking. guys, back to you in san francisco. >> thanks, tom. 6:25. new today in the dominican republic the death of another american tourist at a resort is raising additional concerns. 55-year-old joseph allen was found dead in his room last thursday. the new jersey man is at least the ninth american tourist to die under mysterious

circumstances while visiting the caribbean country. at least half of them falling violently ill after reportedly drinking from their room's mini bar. the fbi is assisting dominican authorities with toxicology exams for the american victims. their deaths have not been connected. in just a few hours, phoenix police and the city's mayor will hold a community meeting about the incident surrounding a graphic arrest of a pregnant woman and her fiance. officers release new surveillance video inside the dollar store taken moments before the incident, shows the couple's child taking a doll from the store, which they say is what led employees to notify police. moments later, video showing officers appearing to punch or push and kick a handcuffed man believed to be the child's father. police are also shown handcuffing the pregnant mother. the couple is suing the city for $10 million alleging the officers violated their civil rights. coming up on "today in the

compared to the rest of the bay it's the worst drive we do have. south bay just starts that build for san jose. the rest of silicon valley great. hayward across the san mateo bridge west 92 shows a little more slowing and a crash in hercules west interstate 80 around highway 4, that is blocking one lane w tracking that coming off the carquinez bridge. back to you. breaking news in alameda county, police are looking for a suspect involved in an officer-involved shooting in hayward. this is a heavy police presence near oakland and the san leandro border. >> sharon katsuda is live at the scene. what can you tell us? >> reporter: about 30 police officers with the hayward police department is out here and san leandro police departments helping out. you can see with the k-t9 unit, they just put a vest on that dog. they're looking for a suspect somewhere in this neighborhood.

you can see hayward police officers dressed in camouflage gear. they marched together down several blocks. we confirmed there was an officer-involved shooting in hayward earlier this morning. roads were closed off near wynton and cabot. the suspect ended up here at ban cold front and 106th avenue. police confirmed they did arrest one suspect durntly looking for another suspect in this neighborhood. reporting live bay more breaking news, a deadly shooting overnight shutting down 068 in milpitas for an hour. the roadway is open but the investigation itself is getting started. >> kris sanchez joins us live this morning. what have you been able to find out, kris? >> reporter: we know that there appears to be no danger to the driving public this morning, as you head out the door on your way to work or school. at this point, the chp says that it seems to be a random attack.

we do know that that driver was found unresponsive in his car in the center median of northbound 680 near landis avenue. this is in milpitas. the driver could not be revived by paramedics, and his name will not be released until his family is notified that he died there. that was just before 11:00 last night. chp shut down the highway to chp four ross lee says the shooting seems to be an isolated incident. >> we don't have any information so we'd be reluctant to say that we have anything that would be an immediate danger. as you said, we are processing, we have completed processing the scene at this time. investigators are working backward to see if we can identify a suspect. >> reporter: the chp processed the scene, reopened the highway just before 4:00 this morning. at this point, they say they don't have a suspect description nor a description for the vehicle that might have been involved.

chat room will planning a shooting at a synagogue. he is due back in court later this month. 6:34 right now. in a few hours one of the defendants in the ghost ship warehouse fire trial is set to resume testimony. >> max harris is one of two people facing 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter, one 2016 fire. on the stand yesterday, harris admitted to lying to a police officer claiming that no one lived inside of the oakland warehouse. he said he feared he would be kicked out. harris also said he manageto live there rent free in exchange for doing work for the building's owner. he also testified the party was planned by other tenants. new video of a mountain lion spotted just west of morgan hill. you can see it crossing in front of this porch of a home. this was early sunday morning on armsby lane. the homeowner installed cameras a few months ago, never expecting to see that mountain

a passenger said the plastic on the meals touched the oven, causing an odor. he posted this photo on twitter of the fire crew on board once the plane landed back in paris. we've just learned the flight is going to have to stop at chicago's o'hare airport to switch crews. it's an historic first of its kind vote set for later today. san francisco supervisors will consider banning the sale of ecigarettes. if approved, the city would be the first in the country to do so. supporters say the ecigarette companies aggressively target kids. however, some people we spoke with who use ecigarettes say that it's having the opposite effect for them. >> the big problem is that our young people are targeted. we've had researchers and people in the medical field go out to schools and collect dozens up to hundreds of ecigarettes around our middle schools and our high schools. >> i've been off of cigarettes for over a year now, and i have not picked up another cigarette. i've been vaping. my lungs cleared up, no more phlegm coming out.

>> after today's vote, the ban must go before a second reading before the board. it will take about six months for any type of ban to go into effect. >> it is 6:44. now to capitol hill. president trump making a new immigration, tweeting that i.c.e. will remove millions of immigrants next week. the president writing "they will be removed as fast as they come in. mexico, using their strong immigration laws, is doing a very good job of stopping people." he went on to add "long before they get to our southern border, guatemala is getting ready to sign a safe third agreement. the only ones who don't do anything are democrats in congress." oakland mayor libby schaaf was quick to reply, tweeted "if you continue to threaten, target and terrorize families in my community and if we receive credible information, you already know what our values are in oakland, and we will unapologetically stand up for those values." the topic of immigration is sure to be highlighted as president trump officially kicks off his 2020 campaign tonight.

coat. we'll have a wide range in temperatures da sutro tower camera. a nice layer of low clouds 2,000 feet from san francisco out to the areas along the beaches and the coast inland areas all clear. our t out with low 60s and we'll see those temperatures warming up pretty0 lunch time. we need to get out, do whatever you have to do in the valleys and some of our inland areas, early in the day, especially if you have to work outside, trying to get some yard work done, you want to go for a run. before noon is the best time before it starts to heat up out there. high temperatures head into the upper 80s in the south bay, low 90s in the tri-valley, and inland parts of the east bay as well as the delta. for the north bay, we're up to 87 in napa, 97 in ukiah today.

half moon bay stays in the lower 60s. so it's going to be cool there for the coast. if you're is time to break out the summer gear. sleeveless shirt and shorts, you'll need that today and also a jacket if you're going to be out there today at the a's game. something nice to do with the kids if you're out on summer break. it will be 66 degrees at first pitch, and then dropping down into the lower 60s by the end of the game. our forecast this week, last few days of spring, summer officially begins on friday at 8:58, and we'll be in one of the cooler days of the week, because we will have a slightly hotter weekend headed our way, but you can tell there's no big jump in our temperatures for the inland areas, and san francisco we're going to keep it cool there with some upper 60s through the rest of the week. mike, you were checking out that commute through fremont. >> that's right, the first live shot the traffic flow 880 past the truck scales, just behind me, that would be tesla. traffic flows smoothly there both directions.

b.a.r.t. lines may be delayed if you're taking the warm springs line between warm springs and fremont stations, you may have a delay up to ten minutes. reports early on about some equipment problems and we've had no real updates since then but we still hold with the ten-minute possibility. the drive is easy, on the freeways there, san jose shows a little slowing northbound, continuing to build a bit. the rest of silicon valley looks great as far as the drive in toward the peninsula. slowing remains south 680 slow from 580 past vernal, and eases up toward andrade with the crash. i think all the activity is about cleared from the shoulder, which caused the original backup. walnut creek we now see the interchange a little slower so west 24 off of 680 in toward lafayette, more slowing there and we're holding steady with the slowing through san pablo and richmond, a nice drive toward the bay bridge, where the backup of course is at the toll plaza. headed into the northbound one large truck trying to change

surrounding a building in that area, an within the past hour we've seen a lot of activity. police confirmed they arrested one suspect, but they were moving in on another suspect. no officers were hurt in the shooting, and we'll continue to follow this and have more in our midday newscast. we continue to follow breaking news for you, this the chp is investigating a deadly shooting on i-680, this happened near landis avenue in milpitas. troopers found that driver unresponsive in his car, in the center median, just before 11:00 last night. that driver could not be revived by paramedics. several lanes were closed for hours, but reopened about 3:45 this morning. at this point, an investigator says that shooting seems to be an isolated incident. also breaking, a homicide investigation under way in san mateo county, happened just before 1:00 this morning on skyline boulevard, and bear gulch road, west woodside. the area is blocked off right now. san mateo county sheriff's department tells deputies they found the victim's body.

and a major announcement from facebook for you, the social media giant officially saying that it will soon roll out a new digital currency. it's called the currency will be on your phone, similar to apple pay. it is being backed by dollar euro and swiss franc, so the idea here is that it would be more stable than bitcoin. dozens of companies signed on, even though it's not expected to debut until at least next year. tech analysts say there's still a fair amount of reserve on whether or not the new currency will catch on. >> now on the dollar, "in god we rust" and this is in cryptocurrency do we trust facebook? that's really the question. >> the "today" show will have more on facebook's big announcement coming up at 7:30. google and sanofi are the companies will use analytics pre health care. to better understand disease and how patients respond to

careful because the whale might still be somewhere else in the san francisco bay. this morning, b.a.r.t. is launching a new parking feature that allows riders who carpool to certain situations to pay for parking spots through the transit agency's app. those stations include dublin pleasanton, orinda, antioch and warm springs. b.a.r.t. is testing the new program at those fourons before rolling out a little later this year. and now to new details over concerns from b.a.r.t. passengers specifically these seats at the macarthur station in oakland. metal strips are sticking out of the seats. we reached out to b.a.r.t. who says that these are all in an effort to declutter the plaza while it's under construction. it says the strips work as an armrest and minimizes the ability for one person to take over the entire bench. the strips are made up of galvanized steel which reduces
