welcome to friday morning. a live look from the east bay. good morning walnut creek, good morning, bay area, if you're up early, getting a jump on your weekend plans, i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. the weather outside, kari? >> it was great yesterday. it was really nice and comfortable. today just a little bit warmer but not much. and we're about to wrap up spring here in the next four hours. this is a look at the cloudy skies over san jose and campbell will start out with upper 50s and normally we're reaching 80 degrees. weovehat today and hotter tomorrow. we'll look ahead to our weekend forecast. tracking the delay for the east bay.

>> those are wrapping up as well. hopefully less th hours. overnight roadwork for one of your westbound bores for the caldecott. they should be clear in the next few minutes. it looks like a crash is out of the lanes and no slowing, the counter commute. westbound lanes should be open by the time we're done with this report. westbound 580 coming out through castro valley out of dublin off the grade, we move down to one lane overnight as well. i'll check with caltrans to make sure there are no delays. a new video of the massive inferno, the fireball was the result of an explosion that happened at a south philadelphia oil refinerynd thick plume of smoke that followed could be seen from far away, homes as far as south new jersey were knocked

by explosions. it is the largest refinery on the east coast. so far, no reports of injuries. we'll monitor the scene from fill till to see how firefighters will manage to battle this one. the plant makes gasoline, jet fuel and petro. iran is taking issue with the u.s.'s version of events after a military drone was shot down. iran's foreign minister tweeting out his country retrieved sections of the aircraft in their territorial waters. the country is insisting the drone violated iranian air space. the u.s. says it was flying over international waters. a u.s. official was preparing to have a military strike in retaliation, that mission was abruptly called off. a live look from the u.s. capitol this morning, we are tracking the international tensions all morning long. we'll have a live report at

5:00. new detailsct link to on skyline boulevard on the peninsula, officially being a 26-year-old is held at the san mateo county jail, charged in connection to the stabbing death of john ceoni pekipaki and taxi cab driver abdul karem mashur. it's a story we've covered all week on "today in the bay." one of the homicides happened monday night, the second happened tuesday in the remote area. the alameda county sheriff's office says there is clear evidence the president of the toronto raptors. >> bob redell, what does the video show? >> reporter: our security camera footage inside oracle arena and c from the deputy shows the toronto's president using both his fists in avi in is according to sergeant

ray can see in our exclusive video shows the aftermath. mathai the team executive being separated from the deputy, after the alleged altercation took place. we confirmed "the globe" and "mail" newspaper in toronto has seen the video images and verifies what sergeant kelly is describing. the deputy was just doing his job, checking for proper credentials for people, trying to enter the basketball court after the raptors beat the warriors to win the nba championship. >> he tried to forcibly pass our deputy. our deputy did his job the way he's supposed to, to protect the court especially at a high-profile event of national security significance, and he did his job and did it correctly. mr. najiri then came back and, in a very aggressive manner, confronted our deputy and at that point, using both his fists

in a shoving motion, struck our deputy in the jaw. >> sergeant kelly also said the deputy suffered a concussion and is now getting death threats. the sheriff was recommending charges be filed against najiri. that decision will be made by the district attorney. reporting live in oakland, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thanks, bob. a hate crime investigation sunday way in fremont. police say this man threw a large rock at a man wearing a muslim cap wednesday night. the transient allegedly yelled that the man "didn't belong there" and threatened the victim and his friend with a large wooden stick. another person said the same man threw an object at him. he was also wearing a muslim head gear. police arrested john motta on several charges. first a swastika and now protesters. people gathered to demand the

neighbor remove the giant swastika in his front yard. steve johnson said he's a proud american putting landscape in his yard. he called it a native american symbol for peace and many people say it is clearly a swastika and a universal sign of hate. >> whether or not he's actually a white nationalist, whether or not he's a nazi or a white supremacist isn't so much the issue. that symbol is a symbol of vile hatred. >> johnson says he will take it down if he's refunded the money it cost to put it in. will public restrooms open 24/7 lead to cleaner streets in san francisco? that's what the city leaders are wanting to find out. the new three-month pilot program is coming to the public bathroom at golden gate and high. it will be open and staffed around the clock. city officials hope to expand the pit stop program which has been around for five years now. there are 25 public restrooms in

the city but they're staffed and open only in the daytime hours. last night, hundreds crowded downtown san jose to relight the pig sign. you may recognize the neon pig danlsed for decades outside of stephen's meat products near the shark tank. the preservation action council spent the past couple of years raising nearly $35,000 to restore it. >> it was an important piece of san jose's development, an important piece of, something that differentiates us from other cities. >> we got the pig. they are having sign doesn't return to its dilapidated state. 4:37 for you right now. coming up on "today in the bay," a rumble with robo calls. the recent bipartisan move from the house that will help reduce

headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. wall street could pull back slightly this morning following yesterday's big rally. the dow jumping nearly 250 points closing at its highest level since last october. the s&p 500 index hitting a new all-time high sparked by the federal reserve signaling this week that an interest rate cut may be coming later this year. oil prices continue to move higher today. gasoline prices are higher this morning, with a big refinery fire here on the east coast. the house of representatives

is jumping into the fight against robo calls. lawmakers introducing a bipartisan bill yesterday, it would require carriers to validate caller i.d. numbers, eliminate fake calls that appear to be coming from your area, they call that spoofing and offering call blocking services for free, and it would authorize the obo calls. the bill now g high-tech looking at robots themselves, trying to speed up the time from when you order and receive your food. the "wall street journal" says mcdonald's is testing voice recognition software at the drive-thru window at one location in the chicago suburbs. what happens is when you order inside, a robot would toss the fried foods like chicken, fish and fries into the deep fryer. mcdonald's is working to streamline operations as it faces more competition from smaller burger chains and an overall drop in fast food traffic. i got to tell you, marcus and laura, this distresses me because my first job was at

and good morning to you. a live look at dublin this ough that morning commute, coming up in just a bit. 4:46 for you right now. new video shows astronauts could always use a little help with chores. nasa sent a few astrobees to the international space station, they're cube bots that can operate on their own. they will help with things like

keeping inventory of supplies. the bots are called bumble and honey and of course there is the queen. they were developed at nasa ames research facility in mountain view. kind of cool, right? >> it is. interesting. that's all i can say. interesting. >> the queen is in charge? >> i guess. speaking of bees, spring is officially ending today? >> yes, today is the first day of summer, and so we are going to kick that off right at 8:54 this morning. >> oh, we're having a party. >> right after the show. in san o, a nice clear start to the y. there, and we know that means warmer temperatures, so if you're heading out the door on your way to the dublin b.a.r.t. station, it will be in the mid-50s. a little bit cooler for the inland areas at least to start today and then a slow warmup in our temperatures at 11:00, we're at 73 degrees, with mostly sunny skies. although we are seeing some

clouds over the south bay, as you're getting dressed this morning. you do need some long sleeves or a sweater for the early hours, but then a t-shirt for the rest of the day, and we're also going to have a wide range in temperatures, so make sure you're prepared for all of the cool weather we'll have near the coast and the warm weather in the valleys. check out the seven-day forecast already up at the bottom of the screen, as we look at our high temperatures for today. in east san jose degrees, while reaches 82. we'll see some upper 80s, we're seeing more of those today in the east bay, in pittsburg expect a high of 87 and vallejo will see a high of 78 degrees. half moon bay only 61 today and in palo alto a high of 82. we're staying in the 60s in san francisco and a little bit more breezy with the north bay reaching mainly into the 80s this afternoon. a lot of tree pollen still looking at some moderate amounts of grass and weed pollen, and mostly ragweed right now.

it's really causing a lot of people to sneeze. as we go into the next couple of days, this area of low pressure that provided us a change in the winds and onshore wind flow will be moving away, and we'll start to see high pressure building and so it's going to be heating up especially in the valleys, and our winds continuing to shift, but there will be an even check out the seven-day forecast, we are going to have a hot weekend, low 90s in the valleys, but look at next week, it's going to be cooling off significantly after monday. we'll be in the 70s all across the bay area, with some 60s in san francisco and we will see some more sunshine in the city and along the coast for the weekend. mike, you're tracking a lot of lights in palo alto. >> that's right, but there should be improvement, fewer lights as traffic flows smoothly right here in the bright spot right there, that's one truck, c caltrans truck backing up removing the cones blocking off all but the right lane. traffic let loose just north

past university. southbound there's avecle aroun use that off-ramp. otherwise 101 is moving fine. most of the rest of the bay is great. el camino and santa clara one section stands out because everything else pretty much green. west 580 the speed sensors recovered but caltrans did not completely clear the overnight roadwork. i think westbound should be fine between dublin and castro valley and the caldecott tunnel did reopen so all bores both directions are open for flow between walnut creek and the maze. back to you. >> thank you, mike. new details for you this morning, the search is on for a lawn killer in one willow glen neighborhood in san jose. seven front yards are damaged. all the neighbors know it happened sunday night. >> as "today in the bay's" ian cull reports, one homeowner has filed a police report. >> reporter: tom harrington first saw it monday night coming

home from work. >> it's a clear pattern and i looked up and noticed the other neighbors across the street also. >> reporter: the same for richard alexander. >> come home and you see this. look at this. it's unbelievable. >> reporter: seven lawns on this little quiet block of artist drive were the target of vandals. normally lush lawns now partially dried up and dead. >> i have no idea why anybody would do this, but it's pretty irritating. >> reporter: no one knows who it was or what spray was used to do it, grassilier can or bleach. >> at first i thought what did we do? what's going on? it's the whole neighborhood. >> reporter: this friendly street isn't laughing. >> it's not funny, not at all. >> reporter: it appears the vandals stopped at this home clearly marked as having surveillance, nothing was caught on camera. the affected neighbors say replacement grass could cost thousands and whoever's responsible they ask stay off their lawn. >> if i could just say to the people that did t don't do it
