it have the first time i hit a fan. >> foul ball fears. another fan injured at a baseball game. this time in california. we're talking to the giants and the a's about whether teams will raise protective netting. >> and baby formula recall. new this morning, the products some parents need to throw away right now. we'll have all the details coming up. today in the bay continues right now. >> good morning to you. thank you for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. first, we want to start with meteorologist kari hall. people are still recovering from yesterday. it was hot. >> wake iing up this morning ti and dealing with the heat from the weekend. it's going to feel a little bit better today. let's get a look out there as we start out from san jose. we're going to get a look at our temperature trend in campbell. we'll see a few clouds moving by. it will be hot.

normal to about 80 degrees. water going to go about 5 degrees above that. we have big cooling changes in the forecast for the end of the week. more on that in a few minutes. the issue is north come iing in the area. we have this big jam. we have two crashes. it means there will be a half hour to clear the crash just about in north main. that will be issue. now it means in lafayette, they are seeing a lighter flow of traffic. breaking news out of the south bay. four people and a suspect are

dead after a tense standoff in san jose. it's a story that took a quick turn overnight. >> we check in with you about 30 minutes ago. anything new now? >> we're see inging a lot of the neighbors come out and take a look. you can see with the daylight how intense this got with the armored vehicle here. one neighbor tells me that the suspect jumped the fence and ran into his home to escape the shooting. now two people and the suspect are dead inside the home. you can hear the flash bang and shots that followed a tense standoff that started a at 8:30 last night. this happened on the 500 block. shots fired in the area and saw two people walking out of the home suffering gunshot wounds.

two people died at the hospital. s.w.a.t. members negotiated with the suspect inside the home, but as you saw and heard in the video, there was a flash bang and gunshots and police tell us now the situation is over. we're told that this is an apparent murder-suicide, but we're still waiting to hear from the the public information officer. >> thank you for the latest from the scene. it's 6:03 right now. happening today, the man accused of kill iing two men in rural s mateo county is expected in h r court. he killed the taxi driver last week. we brought it to you as breaking news here on today in the bay. it happened on sky line boulevard. last monday he allegedly killed the taxi driver after getting a a ride. then on tuesday police say he called specialty towing for

help. family stabbed and killed the employee. the motive has not been relieved. >> another fan is hit by a foul ball. this is during major league baseball game. this time in l.a. and if the ballparks are doing enough to keep fans safe. >> good morning, we reached out to see if they plan on addressing the netting issue. we might hear from them later, but let's talk about this latest incident in los angeles. this one taking place at dodgers stadium. in this situation, a fan was hit in the head by a foul ball.

there's photos of her being hit. she appeared to be okay after being treated. there have been a series of clutch incidents as of late. last year a 79-year-old woman was hit by a foul ball again at dodgers stadium. and died in the hospital a few days later. and a young girl was hit during a a line drive. here's what bellinger had to say about the issue. >> that would be a smart decision. just to protect the people in the front row that don't have enough reaction time. i'm over at first base and you have to be ready. so maybe. that's a scary situation. >> in response to the the incidents some teams are taking matters into their own hands with three teams deciding to ex-tend the net iting.

putting the squeeze on iran's economy. the u.s. is expected to announce a new round of sanctions today. leave iing the door open to shutting down iran's nuclear program. >> you want to talk about it, good. otherwise you can live in a shattered economy for a long time to come. shooting down a a drone. democrats agree it was the right move, but urge caution. >> it ought to be an international response. it shouldn't be the u.s. acting alone. secretary of state mike pompeo is in the middle east this week trying to drum up support. >> i hope that the iranians will understand that the world won't tolerate this. >> iran is blaming the u.s. pill tear experts fear we could be inch iing towards war. >> my biggest concern is the president is running out of room, running out of options. >> reporter: perhaps running out of time.

iran already announced that they will have more enriched uranium than the nuclear deal allows them to. even though the u.s. pulled out, the europeans are still try ing to enforce it. back to you. >> certainly one to watch. thank you so much. san francisco's big clusterfest comedy festival was anything but smooth. many fans aren't laughing because most spent time waiting in long lines. >> the troubles stemmed from fans not leaving venues when the time was up. that created a backup for the next group of tingt holders. it landed several big names of headliners including amy poehler. the festival recreated comedy shows in tepts like "seinfeld" and the office. in the end it appears the festival is a victim of its own success. they tweeted out, overall yesterday was a day of amazing

sunrise in san francisco so i wanted to take you above the low clouds and the fog right now with a view from the mountains. as you get ready to head out the door, the skies are already clear. we'll be in the mid-60s as we start out today and quickly warming up to the 80s. eventually reaching 90 degrees in antioch with liver more. morgan hill at 89. san francisco staying in the 60s with some mid-80s in partings of the north bay. now you have a traffic alert. >> it's not a new crash, but it's a new status. traffic alert. that means they will take a half hour. southbound 242 out of concorde, because traffic held us. that's an issue for us.

minutes. right now, we're looking at a slowdown here in walnut creek. southbound 680 and the traffic alert caused north main. >> good morning, happy monday to you as well. negative numbers on my board. these are from friday. they don't tell the true tale of the stock market, which is really doing well overall lately. a judge says a lawsuit against facebook can go forward. a lawsuit over botching user privacy. slack is the latest high-tech company to go public. really it's underperformed. it saw its market debut thursday. by friday it was trading slower. they had a direct listing. good for employees, but lousy for anybody that bought stock on the open market. president trump told chuck todd he never wanted to hire the head of the federal reserve.

this morning the president tweeting the fed doesn't know what it's doing. "wall street journal" reports the trump administration thinking about banning all c chinese technology from 5g networks. that's the new higher speed cell phone networks roll iing out around america. there are already prohibitions for using technologies from huawei. that's expanded to all chinese technology as a proposal. there's a limit to how much you can ban. the honor of hosting the northern california entrepreneur of the year awards on friday. these are the oscars of business. top winners are almost always high-tech. it is after all northern california. but this year finalists included a tequila company. >> for me it was about selling tequila out of the trunk of my car 22 years ago.

we're in for warm temperatures, but we have a cool start. we'll be in the 60s at 7:00. then we're at 8 degrees. let's help you make plans through our time line at 11:00. postally 60s and 70s. a a few spots will reach into the 80s. so it's going to be heating up and continuing to heat up throughout the day. we'll hit 90 degrees while san francisco stays in the 60s. and going in to sunset we'll see it cooling off quickly. so that's going to be the trend throughout the week. and it's going to keep us cool in the inland valleys.

high pressure backing off and that's going to continue to push away from the bay area allowing for us to get cooler than normal weather. we start at 85. and it's still looking pretty comfortable with some 70s inland and 60s continuing in san francisco. now you have two sides of the traffic alert. >> the benefit shs this is what's weird. i'm showing you the red over here. but over here at the bay bridge, we're sewing a little benefit. lighter traffic because of the folks held back over here. southbound 242 down to the traffic alert. it's causing a backup on highway 4. this portion of the trooif, which is typically our relief trooif thanks are moving

the ntsb says part of the investigation is looking into repairs into the incident. after the tail spin and the pilot managed to regain control and land safely, none of the sky divers were hurt. just shaken when they reached the ground. the friday crash in oahu involved the same plane. all 11 people on board died. witnesses say the plane flipped over twice before plunging knno first into the ground. a hot air balloon knocks people to the ground in missouri. it was caught on video. it happened on saturday when the balloon tried to land in windy conditions. several people were knocked to the ground by the basket alone. the little girl suffered minor injuries and one woman cut her hand. no one was seriously hurt. imagine falling asleep on your flight only to wake up alone in a cold, dark empty plane. that's the nightmare one woman woke up to. now the airline is looking into

good morning. welcome to today in the bay. it's june 24th. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. a busy day ahead and wooesh working two stories for you. in the south bay, five people are dead including the gunman. this is after a standoff in san jose. what werth learning about the people inside. >> and in fremont, authority res vealed what might have led up to a fire that burned in the hills. there could be criminal charges. before we get to those story, let's help you plan your day. how is the weather looking

today, kari? >> slightly cooler today. we're starting out up wither 50s. as you get ready to head out the toor with some sunshine and as you make plans, a cool morning leads to a milder afternoon with the skies still partly cloudy into the rest of the day. all of the bay area microclimates spreading out with some upper 60s. 91 today. we'll take a look ahead to some cooler air in the forecast. you're look iing at two tough spots for commuters. >> which are getting a little better. it's slow iing right now. whatever was going on, it has cleared. things are improving there. we have seen speeds start to show that action as it crash cleared. no problems on any of the live

cameras. but i see the backups moving better. the dunbar bridge a much easier drive. a clearer drive and around most of the bay. that's right on schedule. i'll change that back to blue. still slow. much more traffic. back to the breaking news we were telling you about in the south bay. four people and a a suspect dead. this is after a tense standoff in san jose. developing story. >> we are live near the scene this morning. you have been out this all morning long. anything new from investigators at this point? >> reporter: >> we're having trouble with sharon's audio out there. what i can tell you is this happened at a cul-de-sac. those are are some of the flash

bangs that police set off. it happened overnight. and there were concerns that the suspect was held up inside of that house. some tense negotiations were going on. you can see all the crews out there at the scene. the tactical units brought in there as well. what we know so far this morning is five people killed, that included the gunman inside. we'll check in with sharon a a little bit later in the newscast to see if we can clear up the microphone issues. but the investigation is continuing this morning. 6:33 right now. also in this morning, we're finding out an overnight brush fire in the foothills was deliverly set. >> investigators giving us the update an hour ago. bob redell is live for us at the scene. this really could have been a bad situation out there. >> reporter: fremont fire tells us overnight that the fire is suspicious. they believe it was arson. possibly set as the result of an

altercation. this fire taking place in the hillside behind me. we're at the foothills here not far from mission boulevard. it was sparked around 10:00 last night. it was a two-alarm fire involving the firefighters from fremont fire, alameda county and cal fire. it was a dangerous situation in terms of the amount of fuel. it burned through 15 acres. authorities did evacuate residents initially. fire was knocked down by 1:30 this morning. they want to make sure there was someone there to protect the surrounding homes. just north of antioch, there was another brush fire. this was just three acres. the challenge there was the fire was burning through thick, dry marsh which meant access was

difficult. they kept it contained and were able to protect the boats in dry storage nearby. firefighters battled. fire here in fremont. reporting live, bob redell, today in the bay. >> thank you. 6:35 right now. in the south bay, fire danger and hot weather prompting action in san jose. no open flames will be allowed inside the park today. rangers taking no chances on another hot day. >> the man charged with the shooting and killing of a police officer is expected in court. he's expected to enter a plea. he's accused of killing officer

z sullivan who was responding to a domestic violence call. in the meantime last night family and friends and colleagues had held a vigil in her honor. new this morning, a floating device used to catch plastic in the ocean is relaunching. this marks the second attempt to clean up waters between california and hawaii. a very polluted part of the pacific as part of the ocean clean up project. the device is used to trap some of the 1.8 pieces of plafi plas that patch. >> technology could make traffic more bearable when paris hosts the olympics in 2024. airbus and paris transport authority are exploring the use of self-flying taxis to carry visitors from the airport into the city. taxis would take off every few minutes. the plan is is already in motion

as the airport has to pick a site for flying taxi hubs by t end of the year. could be ready within 18 months. talking about clearing the roads for a better commute, what a great way. we should think about that here in the bay area. >> we have smaller airports. have a lot of nice high quality drones. some folks would like to skip over the bridge website. there was one report of a disabled vehicle. i want to get back to snap here and point out over here. i'm hearing about a crash on the radio. they are talking about a crash on city streets. so chp does not have the information, but it sounds like a serious crash there making their approach out of the area toward the golden gate bridge. everything else moves pretty predictedly. there's the slowing across the san mateo. it's starting to recover.

everything south of there is looking great as well. cooler today? >> yesterday was really hot. as we look ahead to the weekend, it's going to be nicer. so as we take a look at the seven-day forecast, check out saturday's forecast. get out there. 76 degrees and some low 80s on sunday. and san francisco keeping the clouds and the fog. just a few peeks of sunshine. as you make plans, it's going to be beautiful reaching the low 80s. and we'll see some mid-80s toward the end of the weekend. the fair continues and it's going to be great whether you're going out to the vineyards and are restaurants. upper 70s and 80s throughout the weekend. and in caramel valley, it's going to be comfortable with highs in the 70s. just a few mixes of clouds and sun. but overall we're looking at a great weekend. as we talk about today, it's still pretty warm.

it's a clear start. many of the inland areas will be heating up today. air-conditioning comes become on. we'll have cooler air in the forecast. we'll look at that coming up in five minutes. a little cooling right here and a lower visibility across the golden gate bridge. not a major surprise for folks in the area. what is the surprise may be the jam from san francisco towards the golden gate. we'll talk about that coming up. some of the top stories, another baseball fan is hit by a foul ball during a major league baseball game. this time in l.a.

the incident is is shining a light on fan safety. here's the latest incident that took place yesterday. during a game at dodgers stadium in l.a. between the dodgers and rockies, a fan is hit in the head by a foul ball from l.a. dodgers star cody bellinger. the fan appeared to be okay after being treated. here's what bellinger had to say about yesterday's incident. >> assume that would be a smart decision. just to protect the people in the front row that don't have enough reaction time. i'm over at first base. they have to be ready. ten feet over from the end. it's a scary situation. >> it happened several times as it stands. the commissioner opportunity plan to make any league wide

changes. this morning the major honor for rap artist nipsey hustle who was shot and killed back in march. >> he received the humanitarian award in los angeles. family members came on stage to receive the award along with his fiance. >> i just want to thank you guys for the love and support and the marathon continues. john legend helped lead a performance to honor nipsey. mary j. blige achieved the lifetime achievement award. that performance was amazing. san jose police chief and mayor are addressing the growing concerns about the president's planned immigration sweeps. the president is delaying that operation for two weeks a the

request of nancy pelosi. as for san jose leaders, they are trying to calm fears. >> the message has been that we are here to protect our law-abiding immigrants. >> recently voted to continue not cooperating with i.c.e. when it come s s to notifying authorities about undocumented inmates with a history of violent crime. a woman was killed by an undocumented immigrant earlier this year. the county will stick to the sanctuary policy. 6:46. we're counting down the days until the first democratic debate for the 2020 elections. >> in a field of 25 democratic candidates, another candidate

threw his hat into the ring full of hats over the weekend. general joe sestak. you're right the latest nbc "wall street journal" poll shows there are five candidates getting attention from potential voters a at this point in this order. biden, sanders, warren, boout judge and kamala harris. biden is far out in front. on this side of the race, they trade the positions in the poll fairly often. first debate is wednesday. warren will be the highest polling name in that debate. biden debates on thursday. that one has buttigieg and harris and sanders. the best strategy mooigt not be to win, but not to lose. he's far in front, but he's often the candidate that most often stumbles. president trump called off the roundup of immigrants over the weekend. this would have been people already ordered by u.s. courts to leave the united states, but

didn't. the president says he delayed that at the request of democrats, but we're seeing this often from the president. this brinkmanship. he threaten nud tariffs from mexico. he announced and cancelled the raids. and nbc vorts the attack on iran was called off with planes in the air. our president told chuck todd that was not correct. >> were planes in the air? >> they were about ready to fwo. no, but they would have been pretty soon. things would have happened where you wouldn't turn back. so they said we're ready to go. we'd like a decision. >> we expect there will be new sanctions announced against iran this morning. we'll be tweeting about that. you can follow me on twitter. >> tnk you so much. 6:48. happening today, two hours from now, disneyland opens, visitors may be able to reach the galaxy's edge a little easier. that's because the land reservation process is ending.

it's still going to be warm today. and whatever you have to do, try to get out early. low 60s to start and then quickly we're in the 70s to 80s. and mid-80s by the middle of the day. but that's a little bit better than yesterday's high temperatures. we're still going to see a few low 90s in spots like antioch. but mostly system 80s for the interior valleys. in oakland today, expect a high of 72. and upper 60s in san francisco. so we have this cooling trend jo underway. we look at this area to the north. there's a counterclockwise wind flow. that means an on shore wind and that's going to bring back our natural air-conditioning. we're going to feel that starting tomorrow continuing into wednesday. even into the weekend. as that low pressure will be slow to move and that high pressure that really makes it hot kind of backs away and stays over the pacific. here's a look at our temperature trend throughout the week.

it looks nice. still warm today. but look at the cooling that we'll see heading into wednesday, thursday and friday. just slightly warmer with highs in the 80s. not seeing too much of a change. we'll keep the marine layer each day. heading over to mike, you're tracking a few spots. >> a couple spots with unusually heavy drives. the south bay shows a typical pattern. san jose to 237, but that's a good build for this time. we're approaching 7:00. a smooth flow for most of the rest of the bay. with the early backup for the san mateo, we had folks heading towards the bridge.

there's a hot of police activity trying to get confirmation on the specifics. i definitely see the slowing in both directions. we don't have any official word from pd who has jurisdiction in the area. big delays if it's the approach. try to use one of the alternate ways to get around it. out of oakland, a smooth drive. a backup at the toll plaza. it shows you the left approach lighter. it does move smoothly. back to you. it is 6:52. happening now, we're finding out a tenth american is dead while vacationing in the dominican

escaped. two people died at the hospital. we're hearing s.w.a.t. members negotiated with the suspect inside the home. but after that, there was a flash bang and gunshots. police say the situation is is now over. several neighbors had to be e c evacuated overnight. a live look in fremont when neighbors are being allowed to return home after a late night grass fire. it was set on purpose. it started at 10:00 p.m. in the foothills above the way on mission boulevard. it burned 15 acres. they believe someone may have started it following an alter kargs. they are still on the scene now. this is one of the series of grass fires over the past 36 hours in the bay area. another one on bethel island burned three acres of dry marsh land. this is last night. another fire burned about 40 acres outside brentwood. this is one that started about 1:00 a.m. near the valley.
