patterson on the other side of mount hamilton. you see photos here. started last night and exploded to 500 acres overnight with zero percent cent containment. our reporter is heading there now and will join us in about 30 minutes. a disgruntled employee shot and killed two people before turning the gun on himself. this happened as a ford dealership in morgan hill. >> that left the town shaking this morning. live with what pliolice are telling us at this hour. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. a heartbreaking story. police spent the night investigating here at this ford dealership in morgan hill. a tow truck cull pulled up this morning pap crime scene investigators on-scene as well. we're hoping to learn more about the investigation this morning. here's what we know so far. shots fired around night inside this service center

and when the first officers got here they found a man on the ground who apparently shot himself. he had a gun in his hand. inside the dealership they found two other men dead. police sources told us the shooter is a former employee who was fired yesterday. you can imagine, a frightening scene with people running from the building. we spoke to one witness who said one of the possible victims was a great guy who leaves behind a family. really heartbreaking to hear that. you'll hear from that witness coming up in the next half hour, and we'll keep you updated on the investigation throughout the morning. reporting live in morgan hill this morning, ali wolff for "today in the bay." >> a tragedy. thank you. 5:02 now. the 2020 presidential race heats up tonight in miami. here's a live look at 20 democrats who qualifiedened divided over two nights. calling on lawmakers to consider a bill for penalizing priests for not telling about those who confess being child molesters during confession. >> reporter: and two california lawmakers basically saying this bill is unjust and even hinted at the possibility of potential lawsuits if the bill is passed. go ahead and talk about this bill. it would penalize priests who don't come forward with information regarding sexual abuse of minors if told to them through confessional by a co-worker or another priest. while the catholic league believes priests should be held accountable for actions they vow it would violate the sacrament of the catholic church. a $6.8 million settlement was reached just yesterday.

that is affiliated with the santa rosa diocese. as of may the diocese paid out hefty amount of settlements, more than $30 million for clergy abuse. >> thanks for that report. right now pail oh auto police are searching for a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault that happened monday night just after 9:00. officers say a man jumped out of his car grabbed a woman inappropriately several times. the victim says she tried to chase the suspect but he ran back to his audi and drove away. new this morning, california is ending its use of out of state prisons. the final 33 inmates were just transferred back to the state from a private prison in arizona. during last month, several months, hundreds of inmates were redirected to california facilities. governor gavin newsom made the pledge to make the change during his campaign. and fear weather is sweeping

today. it's all because of a strong onshore wind bringing in cool ocean breezes as we go throughout the day. one place where you can go and enjoy the time outside and the cooler temperatures, the alameda county fair today is free. all you have to do, bring in canned goods and also doing some good by feeding the needy today. as you make plans, it's also going to be windy out there. our winds will be picking up at about 15 to 20 miles per hour throughout the day, and so it's going to be gusting along with those clear skies, and this is the weather pattern we're going to see for quite a while. some gusty winds, but cooler temperatures, and that does extend into early next week. so here's the seven-day forecast. looking at mid-70s throughout the next several days. low 80s for the weekend. then we bring you back down a few more degrees heading closer to the fourth of mike, spotted something in the east bay. >> i did, kari. look at the map. you see green.

and a ghost ship hairhouse trial absorbing compelling testimony from the wife of one of the defendants. micah allison took to the stand. she is married to master tenant derick almena and testified yesterday she previously saw one oakland arson investigator walking through the warehouse following a separate incident in 2014. that same fire inspector testified she had never set foot in the warehouse. prosecutors later tried to frame alison allison's testimony as unreliable. and soon history after a vote last night by the san francisco school board. the chronicle reports members voted unanimously to remove the muir that sits in the lobby at george washington high school and dates back to the 1930s. some people say they were offended by the murals depiction of dead native americans and

images of washington's slaves. some argued it should stay to provide an important history lesson. while the board voted to paint over the mural they left the door open for it to be covered with panels instead. that section option will only take effect in legal challenges prevent its full removal. oakland may soon be the latest bay area city to ban facial recognition technology. the city counsell committee approved the proposal yesterday, meaning it can move forward. saying it can interfere were you human rights and others said the technology can be a tool in fighting crime. last month san francisco became the first city in the country to ban public agencies from using it. and happening now, summer is in full swing and so are summer meal programs. >> helping make sure kids don't go hungry. just because school cafeterias are closed. contra costa eight libraries expect to serve up to 6,000 or more meals during the summer months. according to the u.s. department

afternoon on ignacio valley road. nbc bay area sky ranger captured video of the fire. the good news, firefighters prevented those flames from burning any home. no word on a cause. developing news. three people are dead in morgan hill. this is after police say a man shot and killed two people at a car dealership before turning the gun on himself. sources tell us that that gunman was a disgruntled employee. "today in the bay's" ali wolff is live for us. that news shaking up the community there in morgan hill. >> reporter: yeah, marcus. really heartbreaking news for the community here in morgan hill, and for the people who were at this ford dealership behind me when the shots were fired. we do know police spent the night investigating here inside the service tow truck arrive and then minutes ago we want to show you on-scene as this tow truck was taken away. this car was taken away from the scene on that tow truck. it is a gray ford focus. as of now, it's unknown who that

a controversy new homeless shelter on the embarcadero officially has the green light.r approved the 200-bed navigation center night and rejected and appeal from opponents who claim the san francisco port commission did not adequately gather public input or perform a thorough enough environmental review. an attorney for the group says neighbors plan to file a legal challenge. president trump once again tweeted presidential harassment. >> this is happening now that robert mueller will testify to congress. >> the worst possible outcome for the president. mueller agreed to testify. though in the past the special counsel said he would stick to his report and nothing more. >> there has been discussion about an appearance before congress. any testimony from this office would not go beyond our report. it contains our findings and analysis and the reasons for the decisions we made.

patterson. and that fire exploded overnight. hearing about 1,000 acres so far scorched. what have you been able to see since getting there? >> reporter: we just heard from calfire who said, yes. officially headed out here, 1,000 acres. 15% contained. not familiar with the area, we are over a lot'smont, west of patterson. the town of patterson. this road here behind me known as highway 30. if you're driving on this road another 25 miles, you would hit mount hamilton. of course, won't get there because of the fire. you can see in the hills behind me it's scorched a number of acres already there. we drove up from our location two, three we saw large flames climbing up the walls of the canyon. this within the past 30 minutes. calfire named this the rock fire because of rocks along the road. i mentioned now, 1,000 acres, 15% contained. burning through ranch land. no homes or structures that are

out here. it would have to travel miles to threaten any neighborhoods. there's about 150 firefighters out on the lines including hand crews, engines and dozers. overnight laid down fire lines to establish a perimeter and expecting winds to pick up later as they always do. calling in more firefighters, air support. the point of today is to get more perimeter and containment on the fire. what they expect to happen, at night the winds turn back on to the fire which would be bad, because then coming in this direction. trying to obviously establish nor containment. right now, 1,000 acres. 15% contained here at the rock fire in stanislav county.imef y kari. fire danger. windy conditions. hot. >> it's windy and we are also going to know as we go throughout the day that we are going to see those winds shifting, and that's going to affect our air quality here in the bay area.
