"today in the bay" continues right now. good friday morning. it is friday. thanks for starting your morning with us. i am marcus washington. >> and i'm anoushah rasta in for laura garcia. if you're going out to the pride parade or any other events, festivities this weekend, it's not going to be a difficult one. >> it's going to be a great weekend, a lot of sunshine, comfortable temperatures that all continues. a little bit cool in san francisco, as we head inland to dublin, a lot of people already up and out the door for work this morning. if you're headed to the b.a.r.t. station, it's going to be mostly cloudy, upper 50s to start. low 70s at lunch time today. we'll get a look at all of our

microclimates coming up and it was looking a little dark in palo alto, mike. >> it was for about three or four minutes, there was no traffic going northbound up toward university. folks, we know that means they're clearing the crews between embarcadero and coming up into the area, so all lanes are now open over the last few. crews continue to clear up over the next hour in spots. commute directions about non-commute directions a little bit later like the commute direction here for west 580 getting through oakland, past the warren freeway that shows the red sensors as crews clear there and i've seen speeds improve for highway 4 arched bailey, another crew there. back to you. >> all right, thanks so much, mike. now to decision 2020 and the presidential race, face-off, its first democratic debate, former vice president joe biden is visiting the bay area today, attending three fund-raisers, bell ve belvederer and san francisco, and tomorrow at home in lost altos. this morning voters have a clearer picture of 209

all right, what the president said is "don't meddle in upcoming election." the russian leader then nodded his head and laughed. the mueller report confirmed that russia did interfere and influenced the 2016 presidential election. >> 5:06. and pride is set to take over san francisco, more than 1 million people are expected to celebrate over the next two days and there are several things you need to know about, even if you don't plan on attending the parade. "today in the bay's" pete suratos is live for us near u.n. plaza with the details. pete? >> reporter: good morning to you, marcus. the big pride event, the main event that pride parade taking place on sunday. plenty of festivities taking place over the weekend and we're standing here in downtown san francisco, in fact we're at the corner of polk and grove. some of the streets are already blocked off, as we expect to see a lot of security here as we're expecting big crowds for the pride events. now the annual event brings up about a million people to the city of san francisco, with the main celebrations taking place

where we just showed you in the civic center plaza, beginning tomorrow. as i mentioned, plenty of security will be on hand, attendees can expect to pass through metal detectors before entering the celebration. bags will also be searched. want to point out bags larger than 18x18 inches are not permitted. alcohol will not be allowed into the venue in front of here as civic center plaza or on city streets. as i mentioned t say weekend of pride festivities all around san francisco. a visible part of this weekend is shaping up today. as volunteers plan to install a huge pink triangle on twin peaks, pink triangle badges were a way to identify gay people sent to nazi concentration camps, the tradition started 24 years ago. but the main event is on sunday, in fact here is a map of the pride parade route. it will run along market street from beale to 8th street. the parade begins at 11:00 a.m. but the festivities continue

until 6:00 p.m. live in san francisco, pete suratos for "today in the bay." oakland schools are called out in a new grand jury report. according to the "east bay times" the findings say its budget problems is largely due to millions of dollars spent on non-classroom costs like administrative staff. the spending was about $95 million more than the, more last year than 37 bay area school districts. the alameda county grand jury recommends cutting the amount and criticizes the district for having a lack of urgency moving forward. in a statement to the paper, school officials say in part that they plan to use that report to improve how it operates. a woman at the center of the theranos scandal is expected in court today. elizabeth homes and president rahani are accused of a multimillion-dollar scheme to defraud investors, doctors and patients. both pleaded not guilty to the

charges and are out on bail. they're due in court today for a status hearing, with a former palo alto based company went bankrupt when the truth emerged about the edison devise. holmes claimed the machine could run tests on a single drop of blood, but the device never worked. team usa hits the quarterfinals in the women's world cup today, taking on host nation france. this is video from their game this week against spain. sioux bierman park in san francisco and avaya stadium in san jose are holding watch parties at noon today. you must rsvp if you want to attend the stadium event. our favorite lady today is kari hall with the great news and the great weather and it's friday and all-around great. >> it's going to be beautiful out there for the watch parties today, and also whatever you plan to do across the bay area. even just getting to work, headed home. we right now start out with temperatures in the low 60s, in the north bay, low 50s i should say but it's 61 now in oakland, as you head out.

now, if you're about to step out the door in cupertino we will see clouds, low 60s throughout the morning, and then at noon, we're at 71. we'll still have the passing clouds every now and then, the sun peeking out. mid-70s today and for the giants game get free ice cream, meet our own mike inouye that is going to be out there and also going to have our team giving out ice cream from 4:00 to 7:00. beautiful weather there as well. we'll talk about what else is going on for the weekend and mike, you're tracking two fires. >> i am. but thank you for that shout out about the ice cream. that's in san francisco. sensors all around this part of the bay, this is fine. traffic is moving relatively smoothly as crews start to clear their overnight construction. the fires we're talking about, yes, plural, both in the north bay, and they appear to be completely unrelated. one is a car fire, highway 12 at red top road. shouting it out because this will block a lane for a short period of time as crews arife. it's just off i-80, and up here

good friday morning, right now at 5:14, we're seeing some clouds rolling over the south bay as the sun rises this morning, but looking at a beautiful sky this morning, and we'll keep it mostly cloudy, with temperatures slow to warm up, at noon we're at 68 degrees, 71 at 1:00. we'll get to some sun today and talk about that and the weekend forecast in less than five minutes. >> a smooth drive, westbound headlights through dublin. i want to catch a glimpse of the beautiful sunrise at the top of

the screen. we'll show you how things are shaping up. i'll have more updates for the north bay fires. good morning. i'm rahel solomon at cnbc headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. wall street is set to open higher this morning. it was a mixed day for stocks yesterday, the dow posting its first three-day losing streak since march. the dow, nasdaq, and s&p 500 are on track for their best month since january, the dow having its best june since 1938. on today's watch list, reports on personal income and consumer sentiment. boeing 737 max is expected to stay grounded even longer. company officials saying it will take until september to fix a new software flaw discovered in simulator tests last week. this means the plane isn't likely to resume flying until october because the faa has to review the fix and the results of a certification test flight. southwest airlines said it needs a month after the faa signs off before it can resume flights.

the man responsible for every major renovation at apple over the past 25 years is leaving the company. johnny ibe is stepping down as chief design officer to start his own business, with apple as a client. ibe joined apple in 1992 and is considered one of the most important people at the company. he's had a hand in the design and feel of the ipod, the iphone, the ipad and the mac and also overseen apple's ios software. marcus and anoushah? i'll send it back over to you. >> yeah but they're still working together so it's not like a total separation. >> yes and i have a feeling apple's going to be just fine. >> i think so. >> all right, rahel, thank you. >> yes. after a string of tourist deaths, delta airlines is waiving flight change fees for travelers worried about vacationing in the dominican republic. the airline is allowing passengers flying to punta cana to cancel or rebook their flights at no charge. at last count, at least ten people have died at several resorts. authorities have said they can't

find a smoking gun, but drinks from hotel mini bars are among the things being investigated. some good news for san francisco commuters, at long last, the trans bay transit center is finally reopening. the trans bay authority made the official announcement yesterday. starting at 6:00 a.m. on monday, both the sales force transit center and sales force park will be accessible to the public, but bus service to and from the center will not resume right away. that's set to start at least one or two weeks after reopening and nearly ten months after the center was first closed due to cracked beams. all right, calling all cookie dough lovers. nestle tollhouse is unveiling tubs of cookie dough that are totally safe to eat raw or maybe put in your ice cream. anyway, they do come in two flavors, the first one is chocolate chip edible cookie dough based on the famous chocolate chip cookie and the second one is peanut butter chocolate chip monster cookie

dough. the new products will go on sale in stores next month. that won't give us cellulite at all. >> but it's safe. >> that means it's safe for everything. >> safe to put on a bathing suit after. >> yeah. looks good, though. >> fun to eat. >> speaking of bathing suits, might be a good time to put one on and get out this weekend. >> it will be slightly warmer, also our first full week of summer. we're thinking about that and san francisco starting out a beautiful sunrise and you can see the clouds reaching across the city right now. if you're about to head out the door in antioch, it is mostly cloudy, and we'll see temperatures in the low 60s, and then as we go throughout the day, some low 70s by late morning, and at noon at 77 degrees. it will be a little bit warmer than it was yesterday but still nice, reaching 81 in concord. 78 in napa. 83 in santa rosa. san francisco reaching 65 and palo alto up to 74 degrees. if you want to check out some

live music, something free to do in redwood city, a little music in the square starts at 6:00 and goes on until 8:00. it will be in the upper 60s, and it's also going to be a nice day. so we still have this weather set up with this slow moving area of low pressure across the pacific northwest, and a pretty decent ocean breeze, as we go into the weekend, we start to see that area of low pressure kind of retreating to the north a little bit, and high pressure nudging in. so that's going to give us a slight boost in our temperatures not only for the weekend but continuing into early next week, but these numbers are right where we should be for the start of july, reaching into the lower 80s for the inland valleys, and no big spike in our temperatures, headed even into the end of next week. for san francisco staying cool rv, at times the clouds and the fog moving into the city and more sunshine as temperatures come up a couple of degrees next tuesday and wednesday. and mike, you're saying it's a smooth drive around the bay.

>> pretty smooth around most of the bay. i got a couple of crashes that show up on the grid, i'll talk about that near the maze, but look south bay, tri-valley, peninsula, all in the green zone for the speed sensors. i take you back up to the north bay, a little more detail, started with a car fire, suisun valley road closer to twin sisters. there was a fire and it jumped into the bushes in the area, and it caught brush fire on both sides of the roadway. suisun valley road is closed at twin sisters. this is not affecting the freeway, not too far from there and farther from another car fire highway 12 at red top road. you see the sensors slowing into the area, and we'll let you know if we have any official closures. there has to be some effect on the roadways. south across the carquinez bridge and benicia bridges, everything is smooth. crashes 980 and 580 are off to the shoulder as you head through the maze. watch nor flashing lights.

new details are emerging about a shark attack in the bahamas that killed a southern california woman. >> 21-year-old jordan lindsey died wednesday after a tiger shark atag while she was snorkeling. someone got an image of the shark taken just before the attack. that's the picture of it right there. family members say they saw the shark and tried to warn her. lindsey is originally from torrance. a professor of hers at loyola merrymount university says the communications major was passionate about animals. >> it's not a surprise she would be in nature doing the thing she loved to do. >> some families veiacationing the bahamas say it will not interrupt their plans to go snorkeling in the same spot as

the shark attack. new video this morning that we already have heard the reports that vaping can be dangerous for your health but apparently also dangerous for your vehicle. take a look at this. a michigan woman says a vape pen charger sparked a fire that destroyed her suv. she says when she took the batteries out of her vape charger, sparks started flying, and then started fast-moving, the fire, right there, and she and her 5-year-old son got out in time but by the time firefighters arrived the suv was completely engulfed and a total loss. school security takes the spotlight during a hearing this morning in san francisco. it's focused on arrested made on and off school grounds, and when parents should be notified. the committee of supervisors and education leaders from all levels will attend. dinosaur enthuse yapss are buzz being a newly discovered species unearthed in brazil that roamed the earth 09 million years ago. >> researchers found the fossil what have they're calling a

cloud cov contra costa county. bob redell is live at the scene. what are police saying about all of this, this morning? >> reporter: well, good morning to you, marcus. pleasant hill police are saying the man who drove his pickup into the sweet tomatoes restaurant had been drinking and driving. when they arrived on the scene the truck was half way into the front entrance of the restaurant with the tires still spinning and the driver behind the wheel. law enforcement was able to get him safely out of the vehicle. they checked to make sure he wasn't hurt and then they administered a field sobriety test, which they say he failed. the man who is 23 years old and from fresno was arrested on suspicion of dui. the collision as you come back out here live destroyed the front windows and front doors, no, one set of front windows here and the facade but they are finghat right now and we did speak with the restaurant. they will be open in time for their 11:00 a.m. opening here,

"today in the bay's" damian trujillo takes a closer look at last night's heated exchanges. >> in this campaign we've also heard and i'm going to direct this at vice president biden, i do not believe you are a racist. >> reporter: that was the start of what most people say was the most significant moment, senator kamala harris accusing vice president joe biden of working with and praising segregationists during his long congressional career.

>> this as a community tries to make sense of what happened. ♪ i once was lost but now i'm found ♪ >> hundreds gathered last night at a nearby downtown amphitheater to remember the two victims, police say the gunman, steven leet shot xavier souto at gunpoint range shortly after being fired. investigators are calling the other victim, brian light a hero for trying to wrestle the gun away. >> i feel like in that situation that's something anyone would try to do. you can't think, you go off your actions, trying to survive. >> many people are saying this week's tragedy has brought an already tight-knit community even closer. a high speed police chase leads to an arrest in the north bay. san rafael police are showing off a mask and a gun they say officers found inside a car driven by 29-year-old adam workman of benicia. he was wanted in connection to an armed robbery in concord, and

police say he led officers on a chase along interstate 580 yesterday afternoon. he's also accused of jumping from his car to try to carjack another vehicle but officers tackled him and arrested him. new details, pg&e under new orders to create a mobile app so the public can report issues with power lines. this comes as the california public utilities commission considers fines and penalties against the utility for the deadly 2017 wine country fires. cal fire blamed pg&e's equipment for starting at least 17 wildfires. last week, the company announced it's shutting down the transmission line responsible for starting the deadly camp fire in butte county. independence day is less than a week away and fire season is already in full swing. in eastern contra costa county, leaders are asking you to turn in any illegal fireworks. east contra costa fire protection district is hosting its first ever fireworks amnesty program, that means you can turn in your fireworks without any

penalty. fire marshal says this year, there will be no leniency for anyone caught lighting fireworks. >> you may light it, and think it's not working, but it's actually the fuse is burning and you go to relight it, and it explodes. >> reporter: you've seen people after the fact? >> i've responded to calls where we're finding fingers a good distance away from the individual. >> you can turn them in through the fourth of july at several locations in contra costa county. new this morning, oakland museum showing the queer california untold story right now. >> it's new artwork from the lgbtq community. among the displays a prototype of the original eight-color rainbow flag and power images. >> the photographs of people's faces of those moments in san francisco where people were on the streets advocating for the right to be themselves in the world, the time line at the back of this exhibition is an eye opener. >> the exhibition runs through august 11th. i was able to go to that and it

was pretty cool, very enlightening. >> very nice. >> i love that museum. it's hidden in the middle of oakland. everybody knows it's there. >> that was my first time visiting. >> if we don't, you'll get us there. let's show you the entire area. we have a smooth drive around the bay. i did see that incident pop up for the disabled vehicle in the south bay but all the green sensors, that is great. green means go. talking about the traffic signals the crash, the disabled vehicle south 880 at baskham mall is out of the roadway. we see slowing north 101 on schedule, your first burst through san jose up by 680. a live look shows you that san jose shot. no problem, why the speed sensors are turning to yellow, north of the interchange with 680 and 280, a small section with slowing and nice drive fremont 880 on the east bay. later on today, after we're done here, we'll get a little break. i'm taking a nap and then headed up into san francisco and try to make the scream for ice cream.

tracking in the north bay. as the humanitarian crisis worsens at the southern border the senate passes a bare of bills to ease the problem. craig boswell is live with more on the vote and what's next. craig? >> marcus, good morning. actually a lot happening on capitol hill today. the senate began very early this morning, holding an unusually early vote on requiring the president to get congressional approval for strikes against iran and if he doesn't seek that approval, they will withhold money. they're holding this vote open today for a very long time, so senators attending the democratic debate last night can come and vote on this today. as you mentioned, the house now has approved a $4.6 billion aid package to ease the suffering at the southern border. it didn't come easy. that vote did not come easy. the house was forced to take up the senate bill which democrats in the house did not want to do but time was running out and they had to vote on what they

beautiful sunrise, all around the bay area. this is a live look outside, hey, there's the zipper truck, mike, it's moving those lanes there at the golden gate bridge, and we can see the clouds that are moving across the sky. let's head inland and not so pretty in walnut creek. it's mostly cloudy, and we will see those clouds rolling by at times today, heading out the door in pleasant hill, on your way to the b.a.r.t. station, it's going to be right at about 60 degrees. so you may still need that jacket for the early hours, and then as the day goes along, feels more comfortable. you'll be more comfortable wearing some short sleeves today, and it will be slightly warmer in the inland areas, in spots like antioch, we're headed up to 82 degrees. 78 in napa, 71 in oakland, and san jose we'll see a high of 76 degrees, all of this cooler than normal and those breezy winds still picking up. check out music in the square tonight, in redwood city, that's a nice event to take in the sunshine, and the nice weather, with some upper 60s at the time that it starts.

it will be cooling off into the lower 60s by the time that band wraps up. we'll see an area of low pressure still lingering across the pacific northwest. it's bringing us that onshore wind flow, but that's going to start to ease up, move a little bit farther to the north over the next few days, a high pressure nudging in that's going to change our wind direction just slightly, and so our temperatures will be coming up a few more degrees, not only for the weekend but going into the july 4th, fourth of july holiday so we're going to see our high temperatures coming up a few more degrees, but other than that, nothing major happening here. looks pretty nice throughout the next seven days, at times some clouds moving by, and checking out san francisco, fog near the coast and highs staying in the 60s. mike, your timing may be a little bit different today. >> kari you know this, traffic is lighter early in the commute, which is when our show of course is on. we try to tell people if you have to get out to the san mateo bridge or alter your path, you don't have to.

"the mercury news" reports the district still plans to build a school there, but now it's a little less certain that this will eventually house students from bulles charter school. earlier the district reached an agreement to move the school there once a campus is built, but parents voiced heated opposition to the plan, and it was put on hold. moms and dads, a new type of vending machine debuted that may make your life easier. check this out.
