congress nbc's gabe gutierrez is in clint, texas he is at the border patrol station visited by members of congress on monday it's one of the dozens of facilities along the southwest border gabe, good morning to you. >> reporter: craig, good morning. this is the border patrol station that has drawn international attention. when we visited last week, border patrol agents here pushed back hard on the idea that they were mistreating migrants, but now some members of congress are seizing on it as we learn about new disturbing comments on a private facebook page. this morning the battle at the border is heating up anti-immigrant protesters outside the troubled border patrol station in clint, texas, and members of the congressional hispanic caucus, all democrats touring several migrant detention centers tweeting out this picture and video, even though they were told not to bring in phones. congresswoman alexandria ocasio-cortez calling conditions unconscionab unconscionable she heard from a woman that

border agents told her to drink from a toilet. >> this is them on their best behavior, and they put them in a room with no running water and these women were being told by cbp officers to drink out of the toilet >> border officials later pushing back calling the accusations completely untrue adding there are ample supplies. the latest flash point in the immigration debate, a bomb she report by propublica detailing a private border patrol facebook group making crude jokes about throwing burritos at members of congress and a meme depicting sex acts involving migrants. nbc news has not independently verified this facebook group and has not seen the facebook posts. >> that was a vulgar, disgusting and vile page. >> reporter: in a written statement, customs and border protection calls the posts completely inappropriate, adding any employees found to have violated our standards of conduct will be held accountable. >> i don't know what they're saying about members of congress i know that the border patrol is

not happy with the democrats in congress the republicans do want border security. >> reporter: cbp has been under fire for allegations of overcrowding and unsanitary conditions, which it has disputed. >> unsubstantiated allegations created a sensation. >> but an internal watchdog report obtained by nbc news reveals conditions at an unnamed el paso border patrol station were so bad border agents were arming themselves for possible riots. we visited this shelter in juarez, mexico and met this man from el salvador who says he's already spent two months here waiting for asylum, a crisis with no end in sight >> gabe, an eye opening report there. any protests -- are you hearing about any protests being planned against the alleged conditions at these facilities? >> reporter: yeah, craig, as we just mentioned, this is a crisis with in no end in sight and a fierce debate going on right now.

more protests are planned at congressional offices across the country for later today calling for the closure of migrant detention centers. craig. >> gabe gutierrez along the border in clint, texas, thank you. ntsb investigators are on the scene of that deadly plane crash near dallas trying to determine why the small private aircraft went down in a fire ball moments after takeoff nbc's ga dee schwartz is here with the latest on the investigation. >> those investigators sifting through what's left of that turbo prop plane, but they're faced with a huge obstacle, much of the evidence was incinerated upon impact. >> this morning ntsb investigators are combing through charred wreckage searching for clues that could explain what caused a small plane to crash right after takeoff and burst into flames. all ten people on board were killed, two pilots and eight passengers when the plane hit a hangar sunday morning in addison, texas, near dallas. investigators describe the final

moments of the twin engine beach craft as seen in this nbc news animation saying after it became airborne it veered to the left of the runway and started rolling over before slamming into the hangar. airport security cameras captured it all, but the ntsb says what went wrong is still a mystery. >> the communication seemed to be completely normal in other words, the pilots were cleared for takeoff. they acknowledged takeoff, and at this point we are not aware of any further communication between the crew and air traffic control. >> reporter: witness david snell, a pilot himself says he knew immediately something wasn't right. >> it just appeared as though it was flying too slow and not making enough power, and the friend that was with me, we're both pilots and have been for years, and we looked at each other like something's wrong. >> reporter: officials releasing the names of several of those who perished nlkding the managing director of a prominent real estate company, and a family of four, restaurant owner brian ellard and his wife and two teenagers and one of the

pilots matthew palmer. investigators hope it might reveal any conversations between the pilot and co-pilot and any communication with air traffic control, and they may have little else from the plane to examine. >> this airplane was not equipped with a flight data recorder. >> reporter: the 2-year-old plane nearly incinerated making other evidence hard to recover. >> gadi you talked about the cockpit voice recorder, what else are investigators looking at >> right now investigators are looking into the pilot's training and experience, maintenance records and interviewing a long line of witnesses. the ntsb says it hopes to have initial findings from the cockpit voice recorder as early as today. >> thank you. we turn now to some devastating news in the world of sports los angeles angels' pitcher tyler skaggs died monday he was just 27 years old the angels were in town to face the texas rangers when skaggs was found unresponsive in a texas hotel room nbc national correspondent miguel almaguer has the details. miguel, good morning.

>> good morning, to his teammates, tyler skaggs was much more than a talented big league pitcher. he also had a big heart and was incredibly popular on the team now an investigation is underway to determine why a beloved player is gone far too soon. >> this morning a young baseball play player's tragic passing reverberating through the major leagues. >> he is arriving on scene now. >> reporter: los angeles angels pitcher tyler skaggs found dead monday in a texas hotel room the 27-year-old found unresponsive at this hilton. authorities say there were no signs of foul play in town to face the texas ran r range rangers, skaggs' final social media post over the weekend included this photo of the player and his teammates dressed up like cowboys writing, howdy y'all, and #texasroadtrip. monday's game between the two teams postponed as those who knew skaggs remembered a popular

military flyovers and of course those remarks from president trump. i'm told by a source familiar with the speech that it is not intended to be political but critics worry the president is taking the focus away from patriotism and putting it on partisansh partisanship >> reporter: it's a holiday salute to american military might. >> it will be like no other, it will be special, and i hope a lot of people come. >> reporter: ask the president promising a spectacle even in the face of criticism. >> we're going to have planes going overhead, the best fighter jets in the world, and other planes too, we're going to have some tanks stationed outside got to be pretty careful with the tanks because the roads have a tendency not to like to carry heavy tanks. >> reporter: besides the tanks, the festivities will feature flyovers by the navy blue angels and pilots showing off the f 35, the offspring, even probably air force one according to a source familiar with the planning the stands now set near the lincoln memorial where the president will deliver his

tournaments and playing a lot of golf, and i was constantly playing sports so without them, you know, i wouldn't be sitting here today that's for sure. >> nate, how do you deal with so much loss and keep going and go on to do what you do this weekend? >> you know, i just kept pushing myself, just tried to stay positive at times, which was not easy to do for a lot of years, but you know, i felt like i kept getting better and better at golf and i knew i could get out here and compete on the pga tour, so i just kept my, you know, head down to the grind and kept at it >> i mean, golf is such a mental game i'm wondering what your mind-set was, because you found out the day before this tournament that you were the alternate, so i mean, how do you get your mind right to all of a sudden go in and play as well as you did? >> you know, getting in as an alternate was a relief really. you know, i thought i might end up being first alternate and kind of finding out late tuesday and wednesday of getting the call to guarantee that i was in

the event, it was a big relief getting in and i was just happy to be in the tournament. i was playing well, so going in i thought i could play well. my goal was to finish -- >> playing well is an understatement i'm here -- let's break down the golf for a second here, all right? >> all right >> nate, you were less than ten feet from the hole on 22 out of 28 of your birdies over the weekend. you also have the best par 4 performance in the pga tour this year you were 14 under on the par 4s. your iron play is incredible this isn't just a great emotional story. this about a great golfer emerging on tour you've never been in new york, you're here now. you've never been in europe, you're going there in two weeks. are you going into that, a i'm just happy to be there b i just want to make the cut, or c, i can win this thing >> well, i mean, really i'm just going to go into it, i want to play well. you know, you try not to think about winning. i'm just going to try to keep it the same way i took last week and take it one shot at a time and see what happens at the end of the week.
