go from the mid-60s to the lower 60s and we'll talk about what else is going on today, coming up. vianey, what's up with those couple of crashes? >> you know, kari, the one that still is causing the heaviest delays is the one on the dumbarton bridge, and we also have that crash down through the south bay, but i want to get to the dumbarton bridge one, because this is going to take a little bit longer to clear. we still have the number one lane blocked and this is right after quarry road. so if you're driving into east palo alto and this is your normal commute, expect some heavy delays. we're starting to see this get backed up possibly all the way through the interchange along 84 as well as through fremont. head out the door now for extra time. the rest of the bridges the metering lights are on at the bay bridge so westbound 80 towards the bay bridge looking at about 12 minutes. i'll have another update coming up shortly. back to you. >> thanks. right now the search is still on for the shooter who gunned down two people inside san bruno's tanforan mall, just ahead of the last night rush hour.

"today in the bay's" pete suratos is live in san bruno this morning. learn anything new? >> reporter: you know it's still no update from san bruno police as we stand in front of the san bruno police department, but we want to show our viewers those scary moments following that mall shooting yesterday afternoon. san bruno police responding to the shooting yesterday afternoon in san bruno. they don't believe the shooting was random, as they continue to search for the two suspects. we know two victims were hurt, one is in critical condition. the other in serious condition. the mall was put on lockdown as a result of the shooting as expected but the issue extended to b.a.r.t., which is actually right next to the mall here where we're standing. police saying one of the suspects fled on a b.a.r.t. train across the bay to oakland. so b.a.r.t. had to close down the san bruno station and also shut down the 12th street station in oakland, where police

washington. people everywhere are getting ready for tomorrow's fourth of july celebrations but the fear of fires started by illegal fireworks is building. fire crews in contra costa county held a demonstration to alert neighbors of the danger of using illegal fireworks just how quickly fires can start. people are being given a simple stern warning. if you're caught with the fireworks you could face some hefty fines and possible prison time. >> fireworks are illegal everywhere in contra costa county, every type of firework. we believe there's no such thing as a safe and sane firework. >> very few allow safe and sane fireworks. a judge will now reconsider the recent $80 million award to a bay area man in a lawsuit tied to the weed killer roundup. jurors in march ruled monsanto

must pay edwin hardman that much in damages. he used roundup on his property for years before he was diagnosed with nonhodgkins lymphoma. the judge will reduce the award by as much as half or even more. hundreds of similar lawsuits have also been filed. in a separate case last year, a judge dramatically cut the award for a vallejo man. monsanto remains confident roundup does not cause cancer. >> 6:07. the family of an elderly woman found dead in a san francisco hospital stairwell is now filing suit against the city. in may of 2018, 75-year-old ruby anderson left a care facility at zuckerberg general hospital and never returned. 11 days later, a worker discovered her body. "the examiner" reports family members claimed the center "did nothing to protect her, despite knowing she had dementia." anderson is not the first person to die in a stairwell at the hospital. in 2013, another patient was found weeks after disappearing. her family later reached a multimillion-dollar settlement.

new this morning a win for the beverage industry and soda lovers. the bill that would require health warning labels on sugary drinks has died in the california legislature. it would have required labels warning of obesity, diabetes and tooth decay for drinks with added sweeteners containing 75 calories or more. this is the fifth time the same kind of bill has failed to get enough votes. happening today, get ready to gorge. it's that time of the year for nathan's famous hotdog eating contest. san jose's joey chestnut appears to be set to defend that title once again. chestnut and other contestants will be weighed later today for tomorrow's big event. last year, chestnut ate 74 hotdogs in ten minutes. if you're keeping score at home, that was a new record. the defending women's champion, miki souto ate 37 hotdogs in last year's event. what would it take for you to enter an eating contest? what kind of food is what i mean? >> ribs. >> wow, you go.

part in this program. it could eventually open the door to waymo offering a taxi service similar to the one it operates in the phoenix area. uber eats has a new option for people who like the ambience of a restaurant but hate waiting. it's unveiled a dine-in feature in some cities, including dallas, austin and san diego, where customers can pre-order their food on the app and then go and eat in the restaurant. the driver and the courier completely cut out of this situation so there's no delivery or service fee. diners arrange their own transportation, they pay through the uber eats app, they can even add a tip. for uber, this an easy way to make cash from restaurants it partners with and for restaurants a way to fill their empty tables. marcus and laura, back over to you. >> hmm. first have to get an open table, go to uber eats. can't i just go to the restaurant and order? >> just order through uber eats. >> really? what if i change my mind? >> you paid for it, so you have to go. can i get that to go?

>> there you go. thanks, frank. new video shows an unusual situation in las vegas, have you seen this? a nevada highway patrol trooper pulls over a van for illegally driving in hov lane. turns out the black vehicle they considered it a mortuary van and its driver was trying to claim the corpse he was transporting was his passenger. the trooper laughed when asked whether the body in the back counted. >> i noticed the inside was equipped like a hearse, it has some bars system and a gurney and there's a body bag laying on the gurney strapped in. >> oh my. he responded saying, "he's not with us anymore." then issued the driver a warning before letting him go. >> it's good he got a warning. >> yeah. that's interesting cargo. in a mini van. >> i think they should start

sunny and cool weather does start to warm up, and we'll be up to 8 4 degrees at 2:00 today in pittsburg with those winds starting to increase. then if you want to enjoy some time-out side, checking out some free fireworks tonight, head over to richmond with the waterfront family festival happening there, and it's going to start at 5:00. temperatures in the upper 60s, but you will need some long sleeves, maybe a jacket for this evening. and here is a look at all of our high temperatures today. we're up to 83 degrees in santa rosa, with san francisco reaching 64. antioch today up to 84 degrees and 79 in livermore. san jose up to 78 degrees, and as we get a look at our outlook for tomorrow, we're starting to make plans where are we going to go? there will still be a marine layer at the coast that keeps it foggy at times. the bay will have mostly clear skies and mild temperatures in the inland valleys with mild temperatures and we're going to see some changes as we get closer to the weekend.

high pressure starts to build in a little bit more. we'll see our winds shifting offshore, which is going to cause our temperatures to come up a few more degrees, but we'll cool off again early next week. so here is the outlook for the next seven days for the inland areas, going from the low 80s today to the upper 80s on saturday and back to the upper 70s early next week. vianey, you've had a couple of ishs, issues, a couple of crashes to report. >> a couple of fender benders in the south bay. this popped up as i was making my way over here. i'll check those out but i'm happy to say it looks like we're noticing an improvement along westbound 84 on the dumbarton bridge right after quarry road. the number one lane is still blocked but looks like now they're finally starting to mover that out of the way to clear for the roads. a live look right now in san jose overall we have had no huge issues in the south bay, but the tri-valley is slowing down significantly in some spots including westbound 580 from grant line road to 680. there was a fender bender there

deal in iran. the country's president is warning the country will increase its enrichment of uranium closer to weapons grade level this sunday. that is if europe does not offer a new deal. president trump the pulled the u.s. from iran's nuclear deal last year. earlier this week iran broke a uranium stockpile limit placed by the deal. a follow up in southern california, where a navy s.e.a.l. has been found not guilty in the murder of an isis prisoner. a military jury yesterday acquitted chief edward gallagher on all but one of seven counts. the 19-year veteran was accused of multiple war crimes. gallagher says that he is relieved. >> yes, happy and thankful. >> i was feeling like we're finally vindicated after being terrorized by the government that my husband fought for, for two decades in the war on terror. >> gallagher was found guilty of posing with a human casualty, which is a violation of the uniform code military justice. he's expected to be sentenced for that today.

health leaders in seattle are dealing with a deadly mold outbreak at a children's hospital. one patient died and five others infected by the airborne mold infestation. the mold was first detected in may but the outbreak has caused the hospital tclose and completely disinfect all 14 of its operating rooms because it can cause severe infection during surgery. divers are expected to be back in the waters of the rio grande this morning looking for a 2-year-old brirmigrant from brazil. border and customs agents say she disappeared monday while her family was trying to cross the river near del rio, texas. teams used an underwater vehicle, a dive team and boats to search the river. this comes little more than a week after a salvadorean father and daughter drawned trying to cross the rio grande near brownville, texas. los angeles players say they felt the presence of their late

"today in the bay's" bob redell is live with the new numbers and with what the thieves are determined to look for. >> reporter: marcus the santa clara police department has seen the number of vehicle break-ins sky rocket this year according to a report published by "the silicon valley voice." look at the numbers on your tv screen, break-ins are up over 120% this year, from january through may of 2019 compared to the same time period last year. a lot of the people who are

committing these crimes, they're professional. they work in auto burglary crews. they usually strike between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 at night, monday through friday, and target large parking lots near freeways so it's easier for way to get out. they're especially after laptop computers. "the voice" reports the bad guys use apps that search for your computers' bluetooth signal and indicates whether the laptop is stored in the cab of the car or the trunk, making it easier for the thieves to figure out how to steal it. police say they drive like maniacs, i'm quoting there, during their escape, because they know officers aren't going to pursue them if that puts the public at risk. "the voice" also reports the state is providing about $3.75 million to the city of santa clara in addition to the cies of san jose, milpitas, fremont and newark to fight the rise in crime. santa clara plans to use that money to install surveillance cameras and signs to warn people to beware. reporting live here in santa clara, bob redell, "today in the bay."

>> certainly a lot to take in there. we're learn being two arrests at the sf pride festivities over the weekend. both had to deal with illegal firearms. "sf chronicle" reports on saturday at a festival in civic center plaza officers with the gang task force recognized 22-year-old ivanta bailey with a felony warrant. officers found a loaded handgun in his waistband and the same festival officers arrested a man with a loaded gun inside a backpack. an update to the deadly accident on monday at sfo, when an suv struck three people outside the international terminal, killing one of them. the other two were critically injured. police arrested the suv driver. originally police said the driver cooperated at the scene and was not impaired. investigators now say he was driving at an unsafe speed. he's now facing vehicular manslaughter charges. that man who died is identified as 33-year-old jedidiah cruz. from seattle.

6:35 right now. pet owners in one south bay neighborhood may want to think twice about leaving their pets outside at night. there is an apparent rise in coyote sightings. >> people who live near carlton >> people who live near carlton elementary school along the san jose/los gatos border say they're seeing more coyotes. some posting photos on nextdoor, or putting up handwritten signs. wildlife experts say the number of sightings this year is about average. >> it was bigger than i expected. seeing it in person, like the eyes, you see and glistens, and not expecting to see that. >> numbers about the same as the past few years. what's changed really is people's perception. >> experts say it's really the combination in more sur violence and the rise in social media that gives the sightings more attention. generally coyotes stay away from people. an update now on amazon's alexa and the recordings amazon admits it stores. amazon says it will save recordings forever unless you delete them according to a business insider.

the data kept includes a record of requests to access outside services like uber, and stores some data surrounding reoccurring requests including anniversary reminders. >> hmm, interesting. >> remind me of my wedding anniversary. >> right now i hope that you didn't wake up late, if you're going to be traveling along this area in the east bay. listen up. southbound 880 at tennison road there is a sig alert crash, all lanes are actively blocked and there was a little bit of a slowing on the side but a lot of folks if you can, jump off right before you even get to that area, and take his hesperian boulevard. there is a sig alert crash, there's no telling how long it will take to clear that out so again, if you're traveling along southbound 880 at tennison road this morning, in the east bay, it's going to be a tough commute. also significant slowing along northbound 880, and this is near broadway.

there's some debris in the lanes due to an earlier crash right along the embarcadero and you can see there's some slowing behind that as well. so we've got a lot going on now. looks like things have picked up and unfortunately the area along westbound 84 after quarry road the number three lane remains blocked and again there is a new crash reported just as you approach the toll plaza, so it's getting busy out there for the east bay drive times. look at that, northbound 880 from 238 to the bay bridge, i saw this go up by about 15 minutes within the past ten minutes and that's because of the crash so head out the door now, guys. >> or stick around, be a little late, stay around for our weekend forecast. wait until 7:00. >> let me kick off your weekend today. there is just so much going on, and you might want to head over to el cerrito and check out the word one festival, doing a preview party, the big festival is tomorrow along with the fooifr works and it's going to be nice out there, enjoy some live muse you can, mid-70s, sunshine and cooling off this evening into the mid-60s.

tomorrow morning wake up, head over to danville at 9:00, we've got the parade going on. it starts out with some upper 50s and probably at about 57 as you make your spot along the parade route, but it does become a lot more comfortable by late morning, with some mid-60s there. here is a look ahead to what we're expecting for fireworks weather tomorrow night. it's still going to be at times cloudy and foggy in san francisco, and along the coast, at about 9:30, with temperatures at 58 degrees. the bay will be mostly clear and 63 degrees, and our inland areas all clear at about 66 degrees. now as we head out for our weekend, the coast still in the mid-60s, while the bay starts to warm up on saturday, up to 81 degrees, and by sunday, we're also going to have a little bit of a cooldown, with low 80s in the inland valleys, while the coast stays steady in the mid-60s. if you're planning to hit the road, heading to yosemite this weekend, perfect. low 70s by sunday, but it will

conditions inside of migrant detention facility and detestable behavior by agents at the border. nbc's gabe gutierrez reports from texas. >> reporter: we are tracking the latest developments in the border battle. protests erupting across the country demanding the closure of migrant detention facilities, this as we're seeing new images from inside some of the facilities from an internal watch dog report that shows dozens of migrants being held inside cells and one official referring to the situation as "a ticking time bomb." also according to a new bhs document we're learning the number of unaccompanied migrant children in custody has dropped dramatically, less than 300, suggesting that the situation might be improving. i'm gabe gutierrez in el paso, texas. we'll have the latest on the developing story coming up on "today." >> protesters took their frustration to the streets in response to the detention center photos. walnut creek there were demonstrations on the corner of

ignatio valley road and north civic drive yesterday and one of the biggest protests in the nation happened in san francisco where thousands of demonstrators marched from dianne feinstein's office to house speaker nancy pelosi's office. demonstrators read letters from detained children and called for immediate action. >> children's cries are going unheard. it's inhumane, it's cruel and it should never happen here. we should be setting the standards for morality and wear we are not. we are failing humanity. >> in a letter, house speaker nancy pelosi called on preside trump to ensure better conditions at the detention centers. new this morning, a california lawmaker is proposing a ban on deep fake videos depicting politicians ahead of the 2020 election. this comes ahead of the 2020 elections, and following the recent doctored video of speaker of the house nancy pelosi surfaced on facebook causing a lot of outrage. some experts say the proposal to ban deep fakes all together would face serious constitutional challenges.

6:45 for you right now. a huge break in a high-profile southern california shooting that killed an oakland councilmember's son. lapd announcing the arrest of the march shooting of 21-year-old victor mcelhaney. he is the son of oakland councilmember lynn mcelhaney. 23-year-old ivan hernandez made his first court appearance yesterday after officers arrested him last week. authorities say he is a gang member and mcelhaney believes typifies the cycle of violence. >> they tell me he's 23. he should have been in college. he should have been -- he should have been believed in, and invested in. >> victor mcelhaney was a student at usc and accomplished jazz percussionist. two more suspects are on the loose. hernandez is held without bail.

gender pay equality, a pledge led by governor gavin newsom's wife. intel, cisco and uber joining a list of 27 other companies vowing to conduct an annual pay analysis and review their hiring and promotion practices. women in the state make about 89 cents for every dollar a man makes. it's never too late to return an overdue book. one man who borrowed a cookbook from a honolulu library finally returned it after nearly five decades. patrick powers delivered the hawaii cookbook to the library last week while on vacation on the island. powers said he found the book in a storage box and he decided he should finally return it. he had borrowed it 47 years ago and even moved with it to california. powers expected a hefty fine but there was no penalty. he gave the library a newer copy to replace his old damaged one.

we know sometimes we have sizzling temperatures. we're not seeing that this time around. a live look outside in walnut creek, we're seeing a few clouds rolling in the distance, but mostly clear skies. we start out with sunshine, temperatures in the upper 50s, and it will warm up into the low 80s, still some nice cool weather but not really hot. here is a place where you can cool off, at the a's game, dollar night, it's going to be nice, breezy winds, temperatures in the mid-60s, and make sure you're wearing a jacket, because it will be cooling down quickly tonight. also at the alameda county fair upper 70s at 3:00 and if you get there early, get a discount on the admissions and later on tonight, we're going to see those temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. here is a look at our high temperatures for today, reaching up to 84 in antioch. napa today up to 82 degrees. san francisco staying in the low 60s, and san jose up to 78

degrees. we get ready for the rotary fireworks tomorrow in san jose, and discovery meadow or anywhere in the south bay you'll be able to see the fireworks for the fourth of july. it's going to be in the low 60s and cooling down into the upper 50s, with mostly clear skies. we have a weather pattern that's set up, bringing us onshore wind flow that's keeping it cool, as we go into the weekend, that high pressure nudges in just a little bit more, our winds turn more from the north and we get more of a north offshore wind flow, a northerly wind flow that's going to heat us up. going into next week we'll see a weather system approaching the pacific northwest and we're going to cool off again. looking at the seven-day forecast, some low 80s for today and tomorrow, upper 80s for saturday, and then the warmup in temperatures doesn't last that long. we'll be in the low 80s by early next week. but staying steady in san francisco with some low 60s, and vianey, now you have that traffic alert. >> unfortunately we are talking about a deadly crash, but i want

to get right to it, because this is going to affect you if your commute involves southbound 880. this happened near tennison road. four lanes remain blocked. one lane with a slow and go going by. heavy delays expected because it say deadly crash, the chp has requested a coroner, it's a sad situation out there. we're making some phone calls to try to get more info as far as how many vehicles were involved. for now, your best bet would be to take hesperian boulevard, take the surface streets and avoid the area as they work to resolve that out. we hope everyone else in the other vehicle was also okay. i'm noticing delays because of this. southbound 880 from 238 to highway 84, you're looking at 31 minutes and that went up about 20 minutes as soon as that crash was declared a sig alert. northbound side noticing delays from 238 to the bay bridge looking at about 36 minutes. the reason for that is because typically people on the opposite side tend to slow down and look

francisco hospital stairwell is now filing suit against the city. in may of 2018, 75-year-old ruby anderson left a care facility at zuckerberg general hospital and never returned. 11 days later, a worker discovered her body.
