you, july 8th. taking a live look outside at the golden gate bridge, the cars are already on the road. where are you going this morning? if you're at home, stick around. we have a lot coming up on "today in the bay." thanks for starting your morning here with us. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. eight days into july already and it's hard to believe, and it doesn't quite feel like july. >> no, it does not. it's been amazing, and so we're going to have another really nice day. a few clouds roll by this morning. that's going to help keep us cool as it gradually clears out throut willow glen will be in the upper 50s as you head out the door and 67 degrees at noon. here is a look at our temperatures going hour by hour, where by 10:30/11:00/noon we're

still in the 60s and 70s. mike, it's a clear drive across the bay. >> as most would expect. we'll see more traffic building throughout the day and throughout the week. right now twwestbound across th bay a clear drive. the view from time to time the low clouds do come through our view there. that may be a factor. we'll track that and kari has a more detailed forecast coming up throughout the morning. right now looking at contra costa county with no major problems. little blips showing up here and there. palo alto no slowing up around university which is what it typically does this time of morning. >> we are following breaking news out of san francisco. a homicide investigation is under way, this is near 24th and capp street. this is brand new video in to our newsroom. police informing us a minute ago that a man is dead. the area is shut down as

officers investigate. we are working out to find more details around the shooting. "today in the bay's" pete suratos will have a live report with the findings coming up at 5:00. it's been almost a full four days since the shaking first began in southern california town of ere are more restless t ever. >> with the 7.1 quake that followed a strong and violent quake, a lot of families are too afraid to go back into their homes. "today in the bay's" cheryl hurd is in ridgecrest with the latest. >> reporter: the city's hospital is open this morning, and public transportation resumes today, signs that things are slowly getting back to normal. as you can see, some people prefer to be tside becaushaking. for many people who live through these back-to-back earthquakes, it's hard to sleep at night, and it's even tougher during the day. about 100 people checked in to the red cross shelter sunday night, this after two powerful earthquakes shook ridgecrest and the surrounding community.

surprisingly, no one was injured but a lot of people displaced. the aftershocks are overwhelming and this community is struggling to get back to normal. >> it's scary, and now you are wandering around going, should we put anything up? wait, should we sleep in our bed or sit on the couch? you really don't know. >> as far as back to normal goes, i don't know what their version of normal is but my version of normal is not having to worry, and i don't see that happening any time soon. >> reporter: later today the red cross will be traveling through communities taking food and water. this recovery effort is urdor "today in the bay." all that shaking is causing a lot of problems for roadways around ridgecrest. crews are already busy with road repairs there, and this is drone video showing some of those efforts. in this case, heavy equipment is being used to fix the roadway that cracked and buckled during friday's 7.1 quake. you it see through-traffic

someone held against their will. eightrs a woman inside walked out. police are not saying who will be charged. happening today house speaker nancy pelosi will address the issue of election security, ahead of the 2020 presidential race. pelosi is holding a news conference this morning in san francisco with other lawmakers. they'll also discuss the recent passage of the securing america's election act. the bill aims to protect u.s. elections from future foreign interference. recently special counsel robert mueller's report determined russia meddled in the 2016 presidential election. new details now, a san francisco man is among three people who were gored in spain during the running of the bulls. it happened yesterday and that 46-year-old man is now in what's called grave condition after undergoing emergency draws 1 mi dare devils from around the world every year. so how was your sunday? just think, you could have been

there is a new way to return items to amazon, without having to go to the post office or to schedule a pickup. starting today, kohl's will start accepting amazon returns at all of its stores nationwide. kohl's tested the program earlier this year in chicago, los angeles and milwaukee. customers just have to go to amazon's online return center, pick the kohl's drop-off option and get a special bar code, bring the items to a kohl's store and kohl's will pack them, label them and ship them all back for free. and google could soon add a play and a pause button to its chrome browser, that could make it possible to play or pause video from any tabn browser. the feature may be handy for stopping videos from auto playing or controlling a youtube video if you switch to another tab. the option is still in the testing phase but you can check it out by downloading a beta version of ogle's new ka nair

good morning to you. it's quarter to 5:00 right now and you see old glory waving there in the distance, because it's a littlerng, and if you op the window, you will feel that it is a little cool outside as well. kari's jazzed about that forecast. we'll have that in a minute. squaw valley final ski day was yesterday and video from the resorthows people skiing in jeans and t-shirts. the tahoe ski resort opened in november with almost entirely

manmade snow but then as we know the weather took a quick turn in the winter and snowstorms made for the third largest snow season in the resort's history. a total 719 inches, which of course led to this post fourth of july skiing. i wonder if anybody was like, man, let's go one more day. >> my brother was up there. we were up in reno, tahoe area as well on separate trips. we were fishing in shorts and flip-flops. my brother with his daughter caught over 17 fish total. >> w >> my brother caught -- i was thinking, i wonder if he went skiing, too. >> one of our photographers, robby bissom was skiing on the morning and on the water in the evening, in the afternoon. it was wild. >> that's tahoe for you. look, whether you were in tahoe or bay area, it was beautiful all around. >> it was a great weekend taken

started to cool off a little bit yesterday. we're going to have even more cooling today. this is a liv in peoe already out the door, heading back to work, maybe after a long holiday weekend and the seven-day forecast is coming up at the bottom of the screen. check it out because we will have some changes going into the next few days but at least we can still enjoy the cool weather now brentwood in the low 60s as you head out the door, and we'll stay there through about 7:00. a lot of sunshine, warming temperatures, but the warmup will be slow. at 11:00 we're at 71 degrees. for our south bay, highay we're 79 in morgan hill, and milpitas reaching 74 degrees. for the east bay we'll see some some really nice weather, so our temperatures in the upper 70s in areas, a lot of clouds and fog, degreend t coastal and half moon bay reaching 60 degrees with some low 70s in redwood city and the embarcadero reaching 63 degrees and the north bay in the upper 70s and lower 80s, and that's that live

look outside in san jose, a few clouds. do you need some long sleeves, maybe a sweater to start out the day, but the rest of the day, a t-shirt will be comfortable, and then the next couple of days we have some brief cooling, and the coastal clouds and the drizzle sticks around. by the middle of the week there will be a storm system tracking to our north. that's going to keep it milder but quickly high pressure build even though we start out the time for the weekend. week cool, we are going to have some morer in the forecast, going from 75 in the inland valleys today to the upper 80s by the end of the a big cver the next several days. mike, you're taking a peek at palo alto. >> we typically have a road crew that causes slowing but this morning no road crew and no slowing. a lot of crews have been off since the holiday and they'll resume work overnight tonight. we'll see that tomorrow morning when we wake all green all over the bay, a great drive through the area. north of the benicia bridge eastbound 80 we did have a crash

coming through american canyon. we'll check on that and the update because when chp gets on scene they give us a change in direction. no slowing shows up i-80 through that area there. i-80 at the bay bridge it does. we showed you the richmond-san rafael bridge earlier before the break and talked about how things are different at the bay bridge. cash lanes are backed up. this is not a surprise, but this is an early build for that volume. cash lanes open in the next few minutes and see how much of that commute returned from the holiday weekend.a.r.t. avoid that. for folks on vacation last week, starting july 1st, ace train no longer has wifi service. plan on doing work on the internet while riding to work, then bring your own hot spot. back to you. >> thanks, mike. 4:49 right now. some neighbors say they have had it with a san jose home in a location where four people were shot saturday night. all four are expected to survive. police apparently have not made

an arrest. that shooting happened near a home on hillsdale avenue and manda drive. neighbors say it's been rented out as a short term rental since the fourth of july weekend and say it's been the scene of a lot of rowdiness. >> i know for sure somebody shot bullets and that was probably the 12th party in least 50 people were partying at that home, when that shooting took place. police are now hoping surveillance video from nearby homes can help provide some leads. >> that's a too, not a party neighborhood. this morning, two families are out of their homes after a fire ripped through two houses in contra costa county, this happened on rogers ranch court in pleasant hill yesterday. firefighters say the fire started between the two homes and then quickly spread in both directions, so they don't know what sparked those flames. neighbors watched nervously, hoping that that fire would not spread, and they are relieved that the families are safe.

>> from like a little tiny fire to like in minutes. >> so we knew we were working against the clock when we got here. >> firefighters say at this point t looks like both homes are a total loss. while the families are okay, one firefighter was sent to the hospital with an ankle injury. chp is investigating what caused a car to smash into two mobile homes, briefly sparking a nearby grass fire in contra costa county. this happened last night at the rancho diablo mobile home park in pacheco. a man who lives in one of the homes said we to rescue a woman and a child from the car after life-threatening. firefighters say the car took out a nearby electrical box, sparking that fire. it could be the final chapter in the effort to change the name of one north bay school district. earlier marin school district members voted to change the name

because of ties to confederacy. they have narrowed down nearly 90 submissions for new names and tomorrow the board will hold a public hearing and likely a vote. the name change is supposed to take effect at the end of next month. trending this morning. this is all me. a croc man action figure is going viral after a twitter user from the uk tweeted this photo, dozens of other users went on the platform saying they're terrified and disturbed. croc man is actually an official croc merchandise item. that picture got more than 150,000 likes and retweets. >> we've been teasing you about your crocs on the fourth of july. >> i'm still going to wear them. i love them. >> you should. >> i'm not going to wear them out and about. >> why not? people want to see them, my friend at the grocery store, our favoritedu a cashier guy. >> i remember him. >> he was impressed you were wearing crocs. he was cracking up. >> he knows i'm a good man because i wear the crocs.

coming up on "today in the bay," it is a grande sized controversy for starbucks this morning. six officers say they are outraged after employees refused to serve them. it's a decision that has a lot of folks talking on social media this morning and we'll show you the steps the company is taking now. but first, happening nogeorgia shf' i dead and a manhunt is under way for the suspects. the hall county sheriff's deputy was shot and killed last night following a stolen car crash. the deputies watin stop a stolen car they believe was involved in several weekend burglaries. when the car was chasing crashed police continued to chase on foot. police exchanged gunfire, and that's when the deputy was shot. we'll be right back.

4:56 for you right now. starbucks leaders are personally turning down the heat after an exchange in arizona involving a barista and police officers. >> the company yesterday issued angy after six tempe police officers were told to move from where they were standing in a tempe barista tol was uncomfortable with their presence. >> there's no apparent problem they were causing, so nobody should be asked to leave if all they're doing is just having a cup of to do there. >> in the apology, starbucks says the barista's actions were completely unacceptable. the police chief met yesterday with top executives and says more meetings are happening today. coming up here on "today in the bay," a look at the weather
