see right here, ruby orman, she's battling alzheimer's and dementia. she walked away from the hospital around 4:00 p.m., last seen wearing a multicolor head scarf and if you have any information, you are asked to call police. defendant derick almena is expected to return to the courtroom today. he and max harris face 36 charges of manslaughter. almena told jurors he's mostly isolated in his jail cell over the last two years and he feels morally and spiritually responsible for the 2016 tragedy. here is his attorney later outside the courtroom. >> when you put on a client, it's kind of like having a baby. you don't know, you know, what's going to happen. we're hoping that, you know, he will redeem himself with his testimony. >> almena puts the blame on the

building's owner. he claims theam to make the necessary renovations and he decided to make the upgrades on his own. a lot of people are sleeping under the stars in southern california after that pair of powerful earthquakes shook the area. homes like this one that went up in flames are still in shambles this morning. as help starts pouring in to the hardest hit towns people are struggling to find a way to get back to normal. >> "today in the bay's" cheryl hurd is in ridgecrest with a look at the cleanup. >> reporter: take a look at this home. it burned down during the 7.1 earthquake. everyone got out alive, good news for a community struggling to get back on its feet, but help is here. we tagged along with the red cross as they delivered food and water to many people living in the remote areas of this earthquake region. we caught up with a lot of people assessing the damage in their homes, and we talked to many people who feel safer afra.

earthquake damage. if the big one hits san francisco, some believe the city would not be adequately prepared and with disaster planning now front and center, they hope adjustments are being made, specifically talking about ambulance staffing tageses. the firefighters union questioning what might happen in a major disaster. but a recent budget hearing, san francisco's fire chief said staffing shortages are common. she says normal response times are impacted by the growing population, and the increase in call volume. >> it's been a huge challenge for us. we run at level zero on a daily basis and level zero is when there are no ambulances available. >> if it were up to me we'd have 40 additional ambulance drivers. >> fire commissioner joe veranese says increasing staffing levels is critical but city leaders say a staffing boost is not in the cards. mevie minimum wage in the country, but that could be about to change. as of july 1st the minimum wage

rogers at cnbc . headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. wall street could see more loss this is morning as investors rethink their expectations for that i big rate from the federal reserve this month. stocks fell yesterday with the dow and nasdaq and s&p 500 posting back-to-back losses. a federal judge has blocked the trump administration from requiring drug companies to disclose prices in tv ads, that rule, which was proposed in may, was set to go into effect today. wholesale or list prices wou dr

good morning to you. we are looking live at walnut creek and over that traffic, you see a couple of stray clouds there in the distance, we have cooler temperatures, nice sleeping weather so hopefully you are waking up refreshed this morning. so we all know that rising rents are a growing problem here in the bay area but listen to this. amazon is now offering a solution. the online retail giant is selling an array of build it yourself tiny homes. smaller kits start at $5,000. three-bedroom kits cost $19,000. those homes come in three big packages, shipped to the customer's door or possibly the property that you just bought. >> they have to build the door.

and for danville, if you're headed out early for a jog, it's going to be cool and still at 9:00, we're at 60 degrees, rising into the upper 60s at 11:00. let's get a look at our high temperatures for today. for the south bay, cupertino topping out at 78 degrees. 81 in gilroy today. there will be a few spots slightly warmer compared to yesterday like the inland east bay, with antioch reaching 82, martinez reaching up to 76 degrees, and for the peninsula, we're going to see a high of 75 in redwoodciwer 60s, and still gusty winds kicking up today as ll awe in the north bay, it's going to stay breezy with some upper 70s, so that's that storm system that we are seeing, and it still will be across the area through the middle of the week, but then after that, high pressure starts to build across the desert southwest, and that's going to give us a boost in our temperatures, causing the winds to flow offshore, and we are

going to have with that offshore wind much warmer temperatures. take a look at where we go from here. we'll be in the upper 70s today. low 80s tomorrow, then some upper 80s by friday. looks like saturday we top out at90 degrees and it stays warm into next week. >> kari, an accident not very good but shouldn't last too long. green sensors everywhere. the north bay also looks clear right now but getting out of san francisco south 101 jammed up right at the 280 connector, heard about a crash, sounds like that crash leaves the vehicle sideways on the connector from 101 to he connector is currently closed. maybe another 15 minutes. that was the original estimate lasting for another 15 minutes or less. we'll track that closely. if you are leaving the house now, watching us on tv, you shouldn't have a problem getting over there for most of your

commutes through the area. 280 is clear if you leave the city via that route. we showed you a backup for the cash lanes for the toll plaza at the bay bridge, they should sort out over the next ten minutes. walnut creek interchange, highway 4 through the north bay and richmond-san rafael bridge an easy look at that almost clear drive. one car coming. there is a crew that should be clearing os iver the westbound direction. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. 4:48 now. look at your screen, this house cat. people in san mateo may be a little unnerved after a mountain lion sighting two blocks from city hall. this is home security video from about 4:00 yesterday so this is a fresh sighting. the big cat cruising the walk on 22nd and isabela avenue. police later went looking for it. new details on a story that could have been a lot worse for one family in southern california. a 4-year-old girl was run over

by a life guard truck, it happened yesterday on coronado beach in san diego. the life guard was on patrol and rescue crews say the girl happened to be crouched in the sand. hospital staff did not reveal her exact injuries but say she is in good condition. a fire heavily damaged a condo unit in newark yesterday afternoon. this near newark memorial high school. a family of four died and four condos are damaged or destroyed. no word on the cause. 4:49 for you right now. a new suit claimsty punished a y on campus despite lack of evidence. >> the suit was filed by the alpha omega house corporation, it seasons stanford's sigma chi house. several students claim they were drugged at a house party by the fraternity. stanford said the fraternity violated aohitreleased a

shocking mistake. >> it really is. one woman says an ivf mixup led to her giving birth to another couple's babies. the cha clinic is based in los angeles and a federal lawsuit filed by an unnamed new york couple says the clinic act with reckless disregard. fertility doctors say not associated with the lawsuit say most ivf clinics have ways to avoid errors just like this one. >> youfeguards for checking, double-checking, rechecking, triple-checking and then tha it doesn't happen. >> two other clinics came under fire when a liquid nitrogen tank failed, possibly impacting thousands of eggs and embryos for 400 patients. the cha clinic has not responded to nbc news' request for comment. the baseball world is saying hello, cleveland. >> the sports fans are there for tonight's all-star game. talk about starting things off

with a bang, last night they held the home run derby which was a special night for the oakland a's 'matt chapman. he had his dad pitch for him. he used to dream about that when he was in high school, to have his dad pitch for him. unfortunately, chapman did not make it to the finalrk mets roor guerrero, jr. coming up on "today in the bay" we want to look at the forecast as you head out the door this morning. >> looking pretty great, although a few clouds. a live look in fremont this morning as you get ready to drive on 880 or heading out to work, it's going to be in the mid-50s, and then warming up to the upper 60s by 11:00. we'll talk about all of our microclimates coming up next. and tail lights on our view of the san mateo bridge, leaving from 880 toward 101, where we track a crash going on, getting out of san francisco. this span is smooth. the departure from the city, we'll see how that's shaping up.

mike you're taking us back to sf. >> that's right because of the crash. green sensors over most of the bay, a little slowing out of the altamont, you expect that and road crews moving around, temporary slowing as well for those areas. now we do see speed sensors improving south 101 connector to 280 reported closed by chpt b t shown speed sensors move in the higher speed directions so i think they reopened that connector, as they anticipated. we'll track that again south bae
