forecast so i'll talk more about that in justrake lights are on at the peninsula. >> the traffic stopped and shifted. we were down to one lane. the road, the construction crews, the road crew over there are opening up lanes northbound university. bottom of the screen headed up toward willow. southbound a break approaching marsh and willow as well. it's right in front of our camera so we can see an example of the hard work going around the many spots around the bay and the reason why you have to watch out, the cone crews actually have people on the road, be careful. nice driveon county, headed to alameda by the maze. you have a top story in this same area. new overnight a 22-year-old man is dead after a shooting in san pablo, this happened on stanton avenue around 9:20 last night. police say that man was found shot inside his car. investigators believe that victim was targeted. so far no arrests have been made.

"today in the bay's" bob redell is heading to the scene and he will have a live report for us coming up at 5:00. a tourist's visit to san francisco takes an incredibly violent turn and he's now recovering in the hospital. >> this all started when the victim happened to catch two men in the act of breaking into his car. "today in the bay's" jean elle has more. >> reporter: a car break-in turns violent. emergency crews take the victim to the hospital with head and collarbone injuries. he wasn't hurt when the burglar broke his car window. police say he was hurt when the thieves hit him with their getaway car, driving at him, when the two men spotted him taking pictures of them breaking into his car. >> a victim of the car burglary was attempting to take photographs of the suspects and the suspect vehicle, at which time the suspect vehicle struck the victim, causing severe talking to medices as

minutes later, another car crashed into a patrol car there. we're tolder minor kaiser mental health workers in san francisco plan to walk off the job in a one-day strike, upset about staffing leflds, crowded group therapy sessions and extended wait times at the caser on gary boulevard. kaiser recently told "the examiner" that its therapists are some of the best compensated anywhere in california and mental health services are facing challenges for all health care providers. for the first time a death is blamed for the recent violent shaking in the mojave desert. this is video of an area one hour west of las vegas. deputies discovered the body of the man pinned under his truck after it fell off of its jacks. investigators say that man was last seen july 3rd, the day before the first big quake, that 6.4 in ridgecrest. as for the shaking in ridgecrest, seismologists warn

us it will likely not stop any time soon. inspectors are combing through primary areas of the impacted zone about 130 miles east of bakersfield, evaluating building safety. scientists are predicting more than 30,000 aftershocks during the next six months. that hardly makes things easier for many of the people who have been dealing with the aftershocks. >> there's more damage here than what people see, and even if it's not catastrophic, it's hard on people. >> i've been in 4s and 5s, but that 7.1, i thought it was the end of the game. >> relief for the quake victims is expected to arrive soon. the white house yesterday approving governor newsom's request for an emergency declaration. a follow-up to a story we brought you yesterday on "today in the bay." new insight into the chemical exposure for firefighters who were battling the deadly tubbs wildfire in santa rosa. the san francisco firefighter cancer prevention foundation conducted that study.

researchers took samples from firefighters on the front lines in the days after the fire in 2017, and many showed higher than normal levels of cancer-causing chemicals in their system. san francisco's fire chief says that urban wildfires are commonly the most hazardous. >> they don't wear a bottle on their back with oxygen, with air that they're breathing, because they need to be mobile. >> chief jeannie nicholson says firefighters across the nation are dying from cancer at higher rates than ever before. an update and possibly the last update really to a long name change saga for one north bay school district. for years, people wanted to change the name of the san rafael dixie school district due to its obvious confederacy ties. dixie will now give way for the new miller creek elementary school district. board members last night voted on the name change. the new name becomes official next month.

but the south bay seven-day forecast is already up at the bottom of the screen. yeah, c op o the door in antioc this morning, it is going to feel nice and cool. a lot ofe low 60s and as we go through the day, a slow warmup in our temperatures. expect some mid-70s by 11:00. so we start out with some clouds and coastal fog with our south bay high temperatures very much like yesterday. maybe just a couple degrees warmer in a few spots like gilroy. we're going to see the high there up to 84 degrees and east san jose reaching 80 degrees so still not bad at all, considering this is early july. pittsburg reaches up to 85, while oakland will see a high today of 71 degrees, and for the peninsula, half moon bay staying cool at 61, while palo alto tops out at 79 degrees. san francisco staying in the 60s and still very windy. times of sun trying to peek out from behind those clouds and the north bay, santa rosa reaching

80 degrees this afternoon. so we do still have this storm system moving across the pacific northwest, and that's produced some cooler weather for us, as that storm system moves quickly we'll see our winds start to shift direction, going into the weekend. high pressure builds across the desert southwest, and causes some hotter temperatures for us, and we get more of an upshore wind flow, so we see our temperatures going up fairly quickly from day to day. we're up to 83 degrees today for many of our inland areas, but then 90s in the forecast for the weekend. we will start to see things cooling off by the middle of next week, so our temperature spike doesn't last that long, and mike, you're starting out with the oakland meter. >> called the bay bridge. it's building over the course of your report. until that point, we saw a smooth ease drive. i don't know if you can hear the rattle, that's my ear piece, if it's a problem, let me know in the control room. i hope no one has issues, the

new details on a state plan to give college students better access to food. lawmakers in sacramento passed the student food insecurity bill and it will provide subsidies to tens of thousands of california students through the cal fresh program and streamline the application process so they have better access to the bill heads to the governor's desk for approval. in emeryville, the city council is weighing weather to keep the highest minimum wage in the country and so far, no word yet on what came out of last night's meeting. the council could decide to put this on the ballot and let voters decide. the minimum wage right now is 16.30 an hour, the result of a wage ordinance passed four years ago. it required an increase every year but now small businesses say they just can't afford it. new this morning, no surprise here, if you're looking to buy a home for the first time, the bay area really one of the worst places to do so, according to a new study by a website wallethub. it finds berkeley was the worst
