>> thank you for getting up early. >> thanks for making it worthwhile. we have a look at your forecast. the microclimate in san francisco right now is fog. >> right. it's foggy. you saw that shot from above. this is what it looks like from below. there is the golden gate bridge. any low visibility, remember to use your regular lights or your low beams if you have them, not your high beams because it reflects off the fog. i want to show you the range in temperatures that we will have this afternoon. if you're looking for a cooler spot, head over to the coastline. it will be in the upper 50s and low 60s. it will be a good mix of sun and clouds that will clear by 3:00 p.m. if you're looking for a warmup, head to the south bay. by 12:00, in the upper 80s. we will stick with the upper 80s in san jose and the south bay.

if you like the heat, head into areas like concord because we're climbing into the 90s. >> i love this pick your own temperature. >> exactly. >> if you want 50s, you know where to go. just get in the car and go. you can find the right temperatures. thank you very much. we begin this morning with video of vice president mike pence touring an immigration detention facility on the texas border where several hundred detainees are being held. some people laying on the ground covered in solar blankets. others crowded close to the fence to get the attention of the visitors. there have been reports detailing inhumane conditions at these detention centers. the vice president tweeted the scene here was part of what he witnessed and women and children were better in another part of the facility. speaking of the immigration crisis, there is fear in some bay area communities about what the next 48 hours could bring. president trump says he will

begin i.c.e. raids in ten cities, including san francisco, tomorrow. the call to treat undocumented immigrants with dignity is getting louder in the bay area. hundreds of people attending protests last night with the i.c.e. raids expected tomorrow and protesters say the need to act feels urgent. in san francisco hundreds gathered to demand to close detention camps and stop i.c.e. from arresting 2,000 people with deportation orders. pediatricians state the current policies have long-term impacts. >> we see kids who have been detained who are coming in after detention who are physically and mentally ill because of that. >> if it weren't for the current rules happening, i wouldn't be standing here a doctor in front of you. >> the aclu has filed a federal lawsuit to protect people taken into custody this weekend. it argues that immigrants must have a court hearing before a judge before they are deported. across the bay, hundreds

gathering in concord for a candlelight vigil. lights for liberty helping to organize this protest to end conditions at detention centers at the border. >> no human is illegal and the people who are illegal create the laws that produce the conditions for humans to exist worse than animals in our time and we have to stand up and do something about it. >> during the vigil, letters were read from children who said they were taken from their parents while sick without extra clothing or food. i.c.e. agents are expected to target about 2,000 people across the country who have been ordered deported. ten cities will be targeted, including san francisco, but activists believe this operation could happen in any part of the bay area. president trump says he has a responsibility to order these raids, but he didn't answer directly when asked if advanced

word of the raid endangers the agents carrying them out. >> people come into our country illegally. we're taking them out legally. it's very simple. it's not something i like doing. >> democrats claim the raids are political. of the ten cities targeted this weekend only one has a republican mayor and that is miami. the immigration raids are our top story on our home page. in it you will find articles explaining your rights if you get a knock on the door tomorrow morning and there are phone numbers for the rapid response hotline. now to our other big story this morning, bracing for barry. the tropical storm is moving closer to making landfall in louisiana. parts of the area have received several inches of rain. life threatening floods are expected. people have been told to stay inside and shelter in place. president trump has declared a federal emergency for the state

of louisiana. >> nobody should take this storm lightly because it's supposed to be a category one when it makes landfall. >> back at home, new details about that hit and run that left a toddler in critical condition in santa rosa. police released this mug shot of the man behind the wheel. they say he was driving drunk when he hit a 2-year-old girl with his white van and drove off thursday afternoon. the crash happened in front of the mall. the girl remains in critical condition, but is expected to survive. we have more information about that semi automatic rifle that was stolen from an fbi agent's car. someone walked up to the car at a shopping center and they stole the weapon, and an fbi jacket. the fbi isn't commenting how the weapon was stored.

the fbi is offering $5,000 to whoever can find that weapon. a follow up now to the dog flu outbreak in the east bay. it's spreading to the south bay. we told you about the outbreak in late june. if not treated properly, it could be deadly. at the time it was limited, though, to the east bay with one shelter reporting 55 cases. now dogs in san jose are getting sick too. veterinarians say there is a way to prevent the flu from spreading, vaccinate your dogs. >> please bring your dog in and have it vaccinated. it's a duty to do that. >> symptoms of the flu will include sneezing, running noses and coughing. muni service will be back in operation today. the $2.2 billion center closed last september six weeks after it opened. inspectors discovered a crack in a beam.

suspects are facing questions over the murder of the american scientist. her body will be returned to germany where she lived leaving behind an investigation that has shocked the greek island. police sources say they are looking for a knife believed to be used in the attack. eaton was killed by suffocation. detectives say her body was hidden in a cave after her death. the 59-year-old woman was last seen playing piano at her hotel. her family believed she had gone for a run. her passport, wallet, phone and cash left behind, only her running shoes missing. her husband and children have flown to the island to identify her. in a statement this week her son calling her a remarkable woman and brilliant scientist. police say samples from under

sfo is your live picture. a hawaiian airlines plane heading out of frame right there. united states airlines will continue to ground the boeing fleet. they will ground the planes until november after the max was involved in two deadly crashes. the new schedule means more than 8,000 flights will be cancelled. the airline plans to reschedule flights on different aircraft. if you go the a ticket for running a red light, you might be getting your money back. the city is ending its red light camera program. nearly 1,000 drivers were ticketed, but it turned out the timing for the yellow light at that intersection was off. the city is reaching out to anyone ticketed at that intersection between december 4th and may 20th. if you were ticketed anywhere else in the city at any other time, unfortunately you're still on the hook.

the case of a missing tomb stone we told you about earlier this week is now partially solved. a man found the marble slab dating back to 1881 leaning against a telephone pole. with the help of experts, he located the grave where the headstone belonged. yesterday it was reinstalled in the mountain view cemetery. the man says he was doing the right thing. >> it took a lot of research, a lot of time and energy. once we got ahold of the data, we had information with regards to dr. hughes. >> dr. hughes immigrated from whales and earned his medical degree in san francisco. he died in 1881. he was only 31 years old. why his tomb stone was moved and by whom, that is still a mystery. forget whale watching. people are kicking it up a notch

and going on shark tours. charter boats have added shark encounters to their list of tours. they've seen an increase in shark sightings. people who went on the tour say the sharks are really curious and they swim right over to the boat to look at the people. >> i thought there was going to be one or two. there was like ten. >> experts believe some of the sharks were born nearby and othe othe others came from southern california. this is time lapsed video of timb timber cove. the snow pack is still melting and the water has to go somewhere. that means a much higher water level. sometime this weekend the lake could reach its maximum limit of 6,200 feet above sea level. since the drought three years ago, the surface has risen 8 feet. when you think about how big

lake tahoe is and you think about 8 feet of water, that is a lot of water. >> it is super impressive. the snow pack really helps with our water intake here. a lot of people don't realize that because you turn on your facet and the water comes out and you don't have to worry about it, but whenever we are dealing with drought conditions, those are things that need to come to mind. it's a good sight to see that we're doing okay in the water department thanks to the snow pack. if you are heading up to lake tahoe, i have your forecast, but here is how we're looking now. in the peninsula, it's nice and cool. 59 for the south bay. clear up to san francisco. very foggy for now. it will burn off eventually and we'll get sunshine. let's look at how the bay area is looking throughout. half moon bay 54 degrees. you can see it's certainly cloudy. your temperature trend for the coast, this is one of our coolest spots.

if you are heading out to any beaches throughout the bay area, expect upper 50s and low 60s. by 3:00 we'll get some good clearing from all of that cloud cover making way for sunshine. this is a live look right now in lake tahoe. you can see a lot of snow has finally started to melt. i know a lot of people managed to get a good ski session in about two weeks ago during the summer, which was very impressive. as we head into the afternoon in lake tahoe through tomorrow, look at the temperatures. 78 degrees by 12:00. climbing into the 80s by 3:00 and this is similar to the forecast tomorrow. whether you're heading out there today or tomorrow, it's going to be a beautiful weekend to be up in lake tahoe. if you're heading up to napa, maybe you're going wine tasting, 1:00, 79 degrees. ladies, wear your sun hat because we will be enjoying plenty of sunshine with warmer temperatures up to 85 degrees. if you're going to stay local, you have a choice of what kind

of temperature you would like to enjoy today. san francisco climbing into the upper 60s and low 70s. in through concord, 94 degrees. half moon bay, 62. once that fog burns off, we'll get the sunshine. you'll notice by about 3:00, it will be mostly clear and right around 7:00, we get the return of those allow clouds rolling through the coastline and that's going to stick around through tomorrow morning. we'll get a similar picture on sunday morning and it burns off and we get the fog once again sunday night into monday. over the next seven days we have a good weather pattern going on. this weekend is the warmest of the weeks so far in san francisco. 70s today and upper sir60s and upper 60s. these upper 80s and low 90s are normal this time of year. we had cooler temperatures earlier in the work week, but 92 today and 90 tomorrow, it's good

donating blood for more than 50 years, since his freshman year in college. >> that's where i started doing my donations when i was going to the university of washington. i looked two days ago and i found my blood donor card for king county blood and i didn't know i had it. >> reporter: david has been a regular at the blood center since the 1980s, a place where they keep track of their most prolific donors. >> they put up a board that showed how many gallons people are doing and so i'm a highly competitive person and so it's like, okay, i'm going to get on the board. >> reporter: david kept going. he got his picture in the paper for his 300th donation and the cameras are back now because it's twice that. david's 600th donation. you know what? that's not the most exciting

part of it for david. it's that young woman across the lab. >> it pinches a little. >> reporter: sitting down for her first donation. ava is david's 16-year-old granddaughter. the two are very close, having spent many after school afternoons together. ava regularly seeing the bandage on his arm so she vowed when old enough to do it with him. >> part of it was i knew it was something important to you and i wanted to try it at least once. >> reporter: david hopes this is the first of many donations for ava and his other grandchildren. it is, he will tell you, one of the best and simplest ways to do something good for someone else, not to mention a good way to show your grandfather that his good example is being followed. >> yeah, i think so.

concord is one of the warmer spots today. similar to what we saw yesterday. it will be breezy along the coastline. i'll have a look at how long these 90s will stick around and a look ahead at your monday forecast coming up in 15 minutes. >> the microclimates make it challenging to predict the weather here in the bay area, but i'm sure your colleagues say you predicted the temperatures between 50 and 90. >> exactly. pick your temperature. >> thanks so much. a rare violent crime in a quiet south bay neighborhood. police are searching for suspects and answers. an 84-year-old grandfather is dead after what appears to be a home invasion burglary. today in the bay has the latest developments. >> reporter: this busy street remained closed through the evening. police arrived at this neighborhood after reports that someone broke into a house here. this woman got frantic texts from her family.

>> they said that the police is in the backyard and i think that the canine dog was running into the garage. >> reporter: as officers searched the area, a dispatcher broadcast this urgent message. >> it looks like it's possible that an elderly grandfather might be inside the residence. they're trying to confirm. >> reporter: officers entered the house and found an 84-year-old man inside. word spread to neighbors. >> we heard it was a burgly and there was an old gentleman there and he has passed away. >> reporter: police have not confirmed how the man died and shared details about who they're looking for. a team of homocide detectives stayed on scene most of the day. residents returning home got bits and pieces of information about the crime scene from their na neighbors. >> i arrived to find a lot of cars on the street and i was inquiring about what happened. >> reporter: nbc bay area news. turning now this morning to

let's look at how it looks outside right now over san jose. we have the cloud cover. look at the temperature trend. by 10:00 a.m. notice the clearing shines through and the sun will poke out at 79 degrees around 11:00 a.m. and then climb into the upper 80s for the south bay. one of the warmer spots this afternoon will be concord. expect our warmest today to be today. 90s by 2:00. 93 by 3:00. remember to be mindful of your neighbors. drink a lot of water. stay hydrated. i would not suggest a hike in through the afternoon. this is probably your best time to do so now. get it out of the way early and look out for your pets as well. a good location to get away from the heat will be the coastline. a live look at the coast. it's 58 degrees. we're going to keep the cloud cover for the coastline, but look at the temperatures. we're going to be in the 60s in

pacifica. any of the coastal areas will be in the upper 50s and low 60s and well get clearing by 3:00. lake tahoe is going to be spectacular. 42 degrees now. by 1:00, 80s degrees and we're going to remain in this weather pattern through tomorrow as well. if you have plans to head out early tomorrow morning, you don't have to worry about rain or snow. go out there and enjoy the lake. your highs throughout the entire bay area, this is a good reference. 62 degrees, oakland at 74 and san jose 86. those microclimates are in full force today. we have a high pressure still dominating keep ing us in the 90s. once that fog clears, we get a nice afternoon. by 6:00, notice the return of the marine layer. hanging on tight overnight and tomorrow morning at about
