step out the door. live look in san jose and mostly clear skies and heading over to east san jose and temperature. we get a look at that and the weekend forecast and vianey has a look at that morning commute. >> the chp right now, pretty quiet. no big accidents we did have overnight and not impacting your morning commute. however, we do have some slow spots and i'm probably thinking the likely culprit is construction. now, westbound 80 from highway 4 to the bay bridge, 20 minutes. so far the rest of the bay area is doing pretty good. >> thank you, vianey. breaking news. two people rescued from the south bay river now we're working to find out their conditions. >> "today in the bay" bob redell at that scene in south san jose. what have you been able to find out? >> i know this happened in the guadeloupe river behind me here

in south san jose. san jose police were called out here because a possible drowning victim. they went down a very steep embankment here to get down to the river and they found this man and pulled him out and they began to pull cpr. when we saw him being put into the ambulance he was not being helped any more. a second man came up on his own and he appears to be fine. reporting live in san jose, bob redell, "today in the thank yo this morning, america is mulling over the most highly anticipated testimony in years. former special counsel robert mueller explained why he couldn't decide whether to charge president trump with obstruction of justice. tracie potts has more of this in washington.

become the battleground on immigration. a federal judge is expected to hear arguments that the trump administration is failing to follow through on allowing people from muslim majority countries into the u.s. the trump administration said waivers would be granted on an individual basis. the class action lawsuit is on behalf of 34 people who say their waivers were denied or stalled. a hearing comes following a blow to the trump administration on a key immigration issue. san francisco judge blocked a new order, experts say, would have prevented every migrant coming through the southern border by applying for asylum. they would have to pursue safe haven on the way to the u.s. a judge's ruling will prevent the ban from taking effect while the case makes its way through the federal court. developing right now, big change under way in puerto rico after the governor announces his

resignation. he made the announcement last night on social media in the wake of mass protests. are rossello said he always puts his country first and therefore will step down one week from tomorrow. justice secretary vazquez will become the new governor. a pittsburg teen was shot in the neck. they were playing with a handgun when it went off yesterday afternoon. the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. police are now investigating. federal judge is giving two-week deadline to determine who will seize control of pg&e and pull the utility out of bankruptcy. filed court papers saying the company owes them $20 billion for wildfire claims. they submitted a reorganization claim that will give them

majority stock in the company. company bond holders have offered their own proposal. p pg&e has until september 26th to submit its reorganization plan. ice cream history, in fact, is set to finally melt into the sunset. >> the location of the dreyer's grand ice cream parlor is set to close tomorrow. employees found out about the closure on monday. it was founded in oakland in 1928 and went under nestle's control in 2003. the company claims it created rocky road ice cream. sign in the window promises, quote, something big is coming in our place. no word on what that is. we will be watching. >> have you ever had garlic ice cream? a lot of people love it. garlic lovers get ready. the annual gilroy garlic if estival starts tomorrow and more than 100,000 people will attend

one of a kind festival all things garlic. pasta, ice cream as i mentioned and a whole lot more. all that scampi. there is also live music and lots of activities for the kids. this year, in fact, marks 40 years since gilroy first hosted its garlic festival. i was down in the area yesterday, oh, my. the kids were like, what is that smell. >> we know what it is. >> they are cooking it up already. >> hope they have the mint ice cream with it. >> very strong. >> it is very strong and as you're out there this weekend, you'll want to find some shade under one of those big trees or get in the tent. sometimes they have the little misting stations. and, also, it's going to be really hot during the middle of the day. you will want to take it easy and drink lots of water along with eating that garlic. you'll see those temperatures reach into the low 90s. let's get out the door this morning and get a look at the microclimates with temperatures starting out in the lower 60s and it's going to heat

and the valleys we're up to 85 degrees in danville. that isn jose 85 degrees and we'll see the 90s today with concord at 93 degrees at 4:00 and 92 at morgan hill where a lot of people will be getting ready to head home. at least we get more of a breeze today. i'll talk about the weekend coming up and vianey has a look at the morning commute coming up in a couple spots. >> slowing down especially considering still thursday and we're about to make it to friday. overall look, no big accidents to report any minor fender benders clear out overnight and the bay bridge toll plaza getting busy this morning. look at that. obviously, the fast lanes are moving along a little bit quicker and let's look at the drive times for the rest of your bridges, as well. 580 towards richmond bridge and towards the bay bridge, this is where we're starting to notice the building traffic about ten minutes. back to you.

good thursday morning. we're coming up on 5:12 and as you start out in martinez it's already warm. you're feeling that humidity at that end with temperatures in the upper 80s and another hot day. we'll talk about that. a slight chance of some thunderstorms and also a look at that hot weekend forecast. that's in less than five minutes. our morning commute has been doing good pretty good so far. bridge drive times and 80 towards the bay bridge, starting to get a little busy. you're only looking at seven minutes. a look throughout the entire bay area, coming up. and good morning and a very good thursday to you, as well. boeing pulled the dow lower on wednesday. y. the stock is not going to have green arrows today. pretrading puts it about 11%

lower. the company said, once again, it lost money and probably would break even next quarter, despite promises from elon musk the company would regularly make profit. sales of the model 3 are very strong, but tesla continues to have very high operating costs. facebook shares should be under pressure but apparently nothing can trip facebook up. it's going to pay a $5 billion fine to the ftc for violating your privacy, but many, including some on the ftc think facebook got off easy. part of the deal included essentially a pardon. the ftc won't look into any other possible ways facebookou past. they will have to set up a privacy board and the government says it will hold officers responsible for any future violations. and based on facebook's past, future violations are well within imagination. on top of that, facebook announced it was part of an

anti-trust investigation the government revealed on tuesday. we've shown you this scoreboard before. all the different agencies looking into the behavior of high-tech companies. samsung says its galaxy fold will be available this september. you may recall they were hoping to release it a lot earlier, but they started to break after they were handed out to journalists for review. and this fellow won that lunch with billionaire warren buffett and then canceled. justin sun posted this video to the internet that he was ill and rescheduled the lunch that he won by being the highest bidder and behind there you can see justin appears to be in san francisco. this is where the story stopped. no big deal, the guy wasn't feeling well, too mad. face detn back to china linked to his business in crypto currency. a different outlet says he's in china that he never

got to leave. this is all very mysterious. the causes behind it, even where he is, i, obviously, reached out to mr. sun starting out with, where are you? it looks like he's in san francisco, according to the video he posted. >> because you can see the skyline in the background. >> yeah. >> okay. all right. we'll continue to follow that. in the meantime, a 3-year-old boy is in the hospital he got on to the baggage conveyer belt at the atlanta airport. this is security video footage of that incident. actually happened on monday. he actually made it all the way into the bag room before a tsa agent spotted him eventually pulling him there to safety. they were scrambling. the boy did manage to injure his hand. the 3-year-old mother told police she sent him down at one of the spirit airlines kiosk to print her boarding pass. the child was able to access that baggage belt through a

look at this beautiful shot. as the sun rises over san francisco, hang on this all day because as the sun comes up, we're going to see mostly clear skies and then some hot temperatures in the inland areas. as we check out that seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen coming over and taking a look at it. as you get out the door heading to oakland. it's going to be in the low 660 and temperatures reaching into the low 70s with a mix of sun and clouds and nothing compared to what we are going to feel in the south county top ay today. reaching 94 degrees in gilroy as they're setting up for the garlic festival this weekend and in danville and oakland 79 and h hayward reaching 74 degrees and degrees. the marina district at 65 and more sunshine, breezy winds and that breeze will start to kick

in later today and still reach into the low 90s in napa and santa rosa up to 89. a nice day to head to the beach. if you can make it to santa cruz, you'll enjoy highs in the mid-70s there and mostly sunny skies. let me show you all the activity that has been going on. parts of southern california this surge of monsoonal moisture really firing up those thunderstorms yesterday. those were all live lightning strikes that we had during the afternoon. and as we go into tonight, as well as tomorrow morning, we will have to see if some of this energy could make its way across the central valley into the bay area and only a very slight chance that we could start out this time of year as the monsoonal moisture fires up. if they could see some lightning here at least along with more clouds and some very warm and muggy air. so, we're feeling the humidity now and it stays with us for a couple more days before it dries out and then those temperatures

just get really hot. look at these high temperatures in the valleys reaching over 100 degrees for bothoming back down the mid-80s and san francisco will also heat up this weekend with more sunshine, highs in the low to mid-70s. vianey, you have been tracking the roads. any issues out there? >> reports of a crash. a new crash. chp, i'll get right to that. first, let me start with an overall look. no major issues in the south bay and doing good along the peninsula. if you're traveling to the east bay, though, we do have a couple issues there and mainly overnight construction. this is the crash we want to tell you about. right near 880 and 23rd avenue the right lane isjust up ahead hazard pop up and maybe something unrelated and something similar that it is causing delays and both sides northbound and southbound side of 880 are starting to notice delays. want to head out now and take

will stand trial. they arrested asap rocky shortly after his performance at a hip-hop festival there. video posted on social media showed two men following him and two others. later there is a violent altercation. since then, president trump has been among many calling for asap's release. after reviewing the evidence swedish authorities this morning indicated asap rocky and the two men with him stand trial on assault charges. it is 5:25 right now. billionaire hedge fund manager jeffrey epstein is recovering this morning after being found injured in his new york jail cell. he was found semi conscious and in the fetal position. he had marked on his neck, but t attacked or tried to hurt himself. he is on suicide watch. all this week, we're supporting our schools. >> and we are hoping to help at least 5,000 kids to get their

well. over at the dumbn so much for starting your day with us. >> i'm marcus we want to get another look. look at it with me. just beautiful this is where we want to be today. san francisco is one of the places and kind of cool. >> kind of cool compared to what we will see inland. the fog can warm up the temperatures even in the inland valleys. let's head out the door and it already feels a little warm out there with some mid-60s to start out the day. normally we're at about 55 degrees. we're above that and we will have the temperatures heating up pretty fast and at noon 84 degrees and we'll talk about the weekend coming up. vianey, you were starting to see slow downs in the east bay. >> we have a hot spot. the rest of the bay area is okay. i want to get to this stretch

because we have not one, not two, but three issues to deal with. several lanes are blocked and appears to be a crash also involving a big rig and it looks like the way the crash ishree lane. they'reon wor out. we also have a second crash and this is along the southbound side of880 r a built of a hazard on the right-hand shoulder and this appears to be a single car crash and just enough to get the people slowing down. also, we called about this fire along northbound 880 near coliseum way and some traffic delays and crews are on scene, possible grass fire and so far we're noticing the slowing. east bay right there, take the surface streets, guys. back to you. >> thank you so much. happening right now, brush fire is still burning near homes in the east san jose foothills. it started yesterday and as of last night, it was 50% contained. the flames did destroy a barn, but firefighters stopped it yards away from two separate

houses. right now we're still trying to learn how that fire started. and in a matter of hours, b.a.r.t. will decide on its next leader following the retirement of the general manager a few months ago. >> live from the orindab.a.r.t. station with details. pete? >> good morning, guys. b.a.r.t.'s board of director will decide on their next general manager later this morning. the retirement of the previous general manager came as a surprise. that general manager was grace cunican and decided to retire back in april. it wasn't a surprise to some folks on the board. she did serve in that position for eight years with b.a.r.t. crunican did not provide any reasons for why she was leaving or what her next career move will be. the next general manager has plenty of work ahead. the expansion of b.a.r.t. stations and the expansion in antioch and a proposed site at irvingten near the fremont

b.a.r.t. stop and b.a.r.t. is still dealing with the fare evasion by installing new gates to hope to dissway folks and it does cost the agency millions of dollars per year. and our investigative unit uncovered news recently that b.a.r.t. is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on legal fees to challenge the public utility commission authority to punish b.a.r.t. for the death of that cost $850 to date.in 2013 after the vote for the next general manager, that will take place later this morning at 9:00 a.m. reporting live, pete saratos. >> the next gm has a task at hand. thank you. two violent carjacking suspects now in custody after a manhunt. one peninsula neighborhood on lockdown for hours. the arrests happened last night two hours after daly city police officers spotted two men matching the suspect's descriptions. police say that the suspects

crashed their car near west more high school during the chase and that's when the suspects took off running. neighbors were told to shelter in place. >> the carjacking in san francisco last evening was an armed carjacking with a gun. we don't know if the suspects fled with that same weapon. we have to assume they are armed. >> police say the initial incident, the driver was struck with a metal object while sitting in the car in the engelside district. one of them, those suspects, pulled a gun on the victim's wife as she tried to help before striking her and stealing her purse. 5:34. a man accused of groping three women near the uc berkeley campuses in custody this morning. berkeley police say they spotted powell riding his bike downtown and said he matched the description of a man wanted in those cases. powell is now facing sexual battery charges. new this morning richmond city manager is being fired. less than a year on the job. city council members voted to

end carlos martinez's contract earlier this week. the council's decision comes after union leaders to call for martinez's unfair labor practices. he accepted the council's decision but not comment on the executives from juul will get a grilling on capitol hill. wrapping up a two-day hearing. yesterday lawmakers heard from experts in addiction and even marketing. among those testifying today, one of juul's co-founder along with its chief administrative officer. in a statement, they share congressional concerns about safety. governor gavin newsom just signed off a new plan to clean up california's drinking water. the bill redirects $130 million of state money from a fund designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions over the next decade. the governor's office says more than a million people in the state don't have access to clean

puppies? >> he's little himself. >> right. that's my little guy. he's just getting jealous because he knows i have that new puppy, that i might want to adopt another one. >> clear the shelters is coming up in august. >> a good event to get a new little brother for him. >> a couple issues, guys, unfortunately out in the east bay. we have a good stretch. a bit of a hot spot. so, no other issues anywhere else. normal morning slowing. but i want to get to this one because this one appears to be affecting our speed sensors. northbound 880 near 23rd avenue. several lanes are blocked because of an earlier crash. we're definitely noticing some slowing through there and in addition to the northbound side we have a crash on the southbound side of 880. this one near 16th avenue and this is more of a road side hazard and the car seems to be a single car crash on the right-hand shoulder and people slow down any time there is an accident or possible debris on the road that they're working to

clear. crews are working what appears to be a grass fire near exit 38 coliseum way. that is starting to cause some delays and you can see that in our speed sensors right now and transit times from westbound 80 from highway 4 to bay bridge and the one that is slowing down northbound 880 and then your tri-valley drive times starting to get slow around this time of the hour. head out the door. the east bay definitely the hot spot this weekend. >> the weekend the hot spot across the bay area. look at the sunrise behind us. >> gorgeous. >> beautiful. >> it's nice and we have a lot more humidity. i think that is giving us more the hues in the sky this morning. >> that, too. >> and the huge hair. >> take a look at these numbers for the weekend forecast. this is a look at saturday. yeah, it's going to be up to 100 degrees. i had to put it on there and the bay will be in the upper 80s while the coast will warm up to the mid-70s. and then for sunday, it's going to be even hotter.

reaching 101 in the inland valleys and 91 for the bay. now, if you're planning to head to the gilroy garlic festival it is going to be hot there. this is a look saturday's forecast where we reach up to 93 degrees and under that sunshine the garlic lofting through the air, it will be really hot. let's head over to oakland for saturday. the art and soul fest and it will reach up to 78 degrees in the middle of the day. little bit cooler there in oakland as we enjoy some time outside. that's a live look at squaw valley this morning as the sun rises. it's going to be warm even in the sierra and our thunderstorm chances will be going down. we won't see that as we go into the weekend. if you're out hiking, low 80s and bring plenty of 80s and really hot in the tri-valley as we top out in the upper 90s. up to 99 degrees on both saturday and on sunday. and then if you want some cooler
