microclimates coming up in a few minutes. vianey, you're seeing out there on the roads that everything's flowing smoothly so far? >> typically we're normally very quiet around this time but chp is reporting a crash and this is in the hayward area. looks like we've got a crash along northbound 880 side at whipple road. the right-hand shoulder is blocked and there's debris in the lane so this could start causing ully it is very early s there are no slowdowns on the speed sensors. everywhere else looking good. dublin both sides moving fine but the traffic tends to build around this area so head out the door now. back to you. >> thank you, vianey. another future housing spot in oakland up in flames. investigators want to know if someone set it on purpose. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos live in oakland this morning. do investigators have any clues to go on this morning? >> reporter: good morning to you, guys. no clues from those investigators this morning. in fact, we got oakland fire

officials here on the scene, not too long ago on this, in this area in oakland. as we talk about yet another under construction structure fire here in the east bay. this structure is right ond/emy this area. as we have fire officials here on the ground, i want to show you some of the cell phone video of that fire that was captured there. according to oakland fire, the structure fire began around 10:00 p.m. on the 900 block of stanford avenue. there was smoke and fire coming from the front of the structure, three-day structure family dwelling under construction. the fire danger didn't stop there. >> at approximately 20 to 25 minutes into the incident, it was reported embers from 919 stanford had made adjacent structures in the area and we had two other immediate

area. so we called for a second alarm. a second alarm unit went to os and assisted with the fire suppression there. >> reporter: so all together we're talking about three fires that were eventually put out by crews, but we also know there were no injuries to firefighters or civilians in the area. as we take you back out here live to the 900 block of stanford avenue in oakland, there's no word if this is an arson situation at this time but we know that atf will be on scene later for their investigation. we're live here in oakland, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> all right, pete, thank you. 4:33. continuing coverage of a bust at southern california's camp pendleton. 16 marines are accused of being involved in illegal activity, including human smuggling and drug-related offenses. military leaders say the arrests came after they gathered information tied to a human smuggling investigation.

>> if this is true, then we as an institution need to work together to fix it. >> the marines are all considered low-ranking in one case two of them were reportedly paid $8,000 mexican citizens. 4:34. another large aftershock rattled the same area in southern california where a 6.4 and a 7.1 quake struck in early july. a little bit before 6:00 last night a 4.7 shook near ridgecrest in the mojave desert. since then, there's been more than a dozen small aftershocks. the twin quakes three weeks ago caused a lot of damage and believed to have caused one death. deputies in hayward are investigating the shooting outside a liquor store, this happened last night at "a" street and princeton, not far from burbank elementary school. deputies say the victim was shot multiple times after some altercation that may have started inside the store. that victim is expected to

survive. new details in an early morning high speed crash in san francisco that left a car split in two. we reported all morning long on "today in the bay." four passengers, all young people, sent to the hospital with broken bones. later, police revealed the driver left the scene and has not yet been found. the crash happened on third street in the bay view district. police say they still have a lot of unanswered questions. >> this is a very tragic event. traffic is the thing that's killing most of the people, right, so we want to make sure that these things don't happen. we want to know what happened. >> investigators say speed played at least some role in that crash, but they want the driver to turn himself in, and explain what happened. don't expect higher travel costs to go away any time soon, according to experts who say flyers are getting squeezed from several directions, that includes southwest yesterday saying that it will extend the grounding of its 727 max jets at least through the end of the year. some travelers have already seen

a difference. >> and it's really an inconvenience that we may look at other airlines but for right now, i mean, i think it sounds like they're doing something safe and i'd like to try and stay with them for being careful. >> fewer planes, also likely mean higher ticket prices. travel experts say that you should start looking at fares now for the winter holidays and if you see a deal, grab it before it goes away. a follow-up now, b.a.r.t. has a new general member. board members voted robert powers into the role yesterday. he worked for the transit agency for seven years and recently served as deputy general manager. he has quite a job in front of him with growing complaints about b.a.r.t. safety and declining ridership. he plans to do a listening tour at different b.a.r.t. stations to get a better idea of what to focus on first. how is this for adding insult to injury? despite having their car tires swiped, one san francisco couple says traffic cops left them a nice fat ticket on the

welcome back, everyone, to this friday morning. taking a live look outside to dublin this morning. a lot of places inland like dublin will be hot this weekend. i was going to say warm but it's going to be hot. we'll check the full forecast with kari in moments. a hollywood actress battling multiple sclerosis gave a brave statement on instagram. selma blair is now bald due to side effects from treatment she'll be receiving for the next three months. days earlier she posted a photo of her son cutting her hair. she had to miss her son's 9th birthday but got through the treatment "brilliantly." she's been very brave since she was diagnosed, talking about it and expressing the difficulty of talking having multiple sclerosis. >> the fact she's sharing makes people who are dealing with that know that they're not alone in that situation. >> not alone.

very nice. >> 4:45 for us this morning. one thing that a lot of o figure out h they'reut are going to deal with those temperatures that we're expecting to weekehis weekend. >> it's going to be a hot weekend. that's the thing we need to keep top of mind. emeryville toward san francisco as we look at the bay bridge. a lot of people headed out already going to work on this friday morning. check out the seven-day forecast. it's already up at the bottom of the screen as you head out the door. we have temperatures now in the upper 50s so at least we have theta o today. it will be heating up fast in spots like brentwood, you get ready to head out the door to temperatures in the mid-60s. we'll see it go from 65 to 72 at 9:00 and whatever you have to do outside today, try to get it done before noon, then we'll see the temperatures reaching into the mid-90s today, so our microclimate forecast shows that we will once again reach back into the upper 70s for oakland, san francisco in the upper 60s

and low 70s. but i wanted to show you this. we will have a heat advisory in effect for solano county and parts of the central valley. they've already had weather very hot like this, so for parts of the east bay, we have an excessive heat watch because this may be the first time we've seen widespread triple-digit temperatures in parts of coco county, alameda county and also in the hills in santa clara county. as we look at what's happening here, we've seen also still that monsoonal moisture causing it to feel more humid. we are going to watch out for the potential of some of that lightning to continue over the next couple of hours, but it looks like this activity will start to taper off. so this weekend, as you make plans, make sure you drink plenty of water, you're taking frequent breaks if you have to work outside and keep a cool towel on your neck that, will help out, too, and never leave any pets or children inside of a car. you get anywhere from 30 to 50 degrees hotter and the pets need extra water this week and bring them in to the air conditioning.

we'll see temperatures today reaching into the low 90s in the inland areas, and then we're up to 102 degrees tomorrow. still in the triple digits on sunday, and then coming down early next week, while san francisco will see the highs this weekend in the mid-70s. vianey tracking the roads this morning, any issues this early? >> we have a couple of issues, it's starting to affect our speed is ensource. i'll start with an overall look at the bay area, you get a good idea, the south bay, doing okay. the peninsula is doing fine, but we do have a bit of a road hazard to tell you about a. chp right now is reporting what appears to be some sort of metal pieces that are blocking the middle lanes, and you can see it's affecting already kind of a stretch of this backed up from richmond to san pablo. you can see the red and the yellow hues that means slowing. they're working to clear that out, hopefully everybody's slowing it down out there. remember we still have that crash and this is along northbound 880 at whipple road. the right-hand shoulder remains

blocked because there's debris in lanes as well. i'm not noticing slowing in any of the major lanes but it looks like it could still be a bit of a hazard. westbound 580 toward richmond bridge six minutes. westbound 80 toward the bay bridge nine minutes and westbound 92 toward the san mateo bridge, 11 minutes. other than that, we're seeing a friday-like commute. back to you. >> thank you, vianey. a follow-up on the brush fire that threatened homes earlier this week in the east san jose foothills. it is now completely out. flames did destroy a barn but firefighters say two nearby homes. the fire burned 80 acres. a new measles case in southern california, the 16th confirmed case in l.a. county this year involves a resident who traveled outside the united states but later visited some locations across the. now congresswoman tulsi gooe of tre unfairly. >> a lawsuit says following the first democratic debate last month the search engine suspended her campaign ads, that

affected fund-raising along with exposure to potential voters. google says the suspension was due to the company's automated fraud detection system which flags unusual activity. gabbert was the most searched-for candidate on that site following the first democratic debate. in the meantime, another democratic presidential candidate taking on climate change, california democrat tom steyer released his plan yesterday. it includes pressing congress to pass a green new deal and treating eco-friendly jobs and sets a goal of net zero emissions associated with climate change by 2045. steyer says he would declare climate change a national emergency his first day in office. talk about really earning a five-star rating, one womanr fo helping her get her and her sister to her aunt's 100th birthday. >> you know that's a big deal. that trip was 400 miles away. bad weather stranded ther o
