>> we don't want to keep singing that song. >> unh-uh, keep them on. >> clear skies, a live look in walnut creek as you get ready to step out the door. 62 degrees at 7:00 and going from 62 to 82. today we warm it up a few more degrees but tomorrow where we really feel the heat. we'll talk more about that in just a few minutes. vianey has been tracking the roads and looks like it's friday light. >> friday light. it's 6:00 a.m. and the roads are building in terms of traffic, but chp reports are showing no big accidents or minor accidents that were on earlier are now cleared out. that's always good. south bay drive times let's look at that. northbound 101 from highway 85 looking at 22 minutes. northbound 85 from highway 101 only 20 minutes and take a live look at an area that is always pretty busy, these metering lights came on at 5:20, you can see we've got the backups and the delays really starting on

the bay bridge toll plaza. i'll have another update coming up shortly. >> thank you very much. well, this weekend extreme heat. summer sizzler as kari has been telling us, many bay area cities will surpass the century mark over the weekend and this morning, authorities are actually sending a very strong message as well. "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us live in livermore this morning. always a hot spot, especially this weekend. >> reporter: it was hot yesterday, and we expect that bank temperature sign behind me that says 60 degrees right now, expect to register another 30 today, mitting the low 90s in livermore, the low to mid-90s in the tri-valley. head north to contra costa county, brentwood could hit 100 degrees. the national weather service issued a heat watch tomorrow through sunday evening, near record temps ranging from 95 to 105 based on where you live. that's the forecast for this

weekend. this means heat exhaustion and heat stroke are likely among children, the elderly, and those with chronic ailments. you want to watch your time outside, stay cool, stay hydrated. this high heat is not good news for firefighters as they try to protect us from the wildfires. we're really into the wildfire season as you're well aware. last year in contra costa county, firefighters fought two fires a day, most of them caused by man, and they predicted this season is going to be worse. they predicted they'll fight up to 25% more wildfires this year. part of the reason, the late rainy season. it might have intensified the conditions, and pg&e's 24-hour wildfire safety operations center is now up and running. the utility says it plans to have at least 600 weather stations and 100 high definition cameras in high fire danger areas. no public safety power shutoff events are planned but that could change with the changing weather conditions. reporting live here in livermore, bob redell, "today in

spending. >> this budget deal i think supports that and helps that so i will vote for it. >> reporter: a big thank you from president trump to the house for approving the deal on their way out the door. most republicans voted against it. >> this will add substantially to our already $22 trillion, that's twelve zeros, dollar budget. >> reporter: left over from special counsel robert mueller's testimony election security. mueller testified russia is still trying to influence our elections, but the senate rejected giving states $1 billion to deal with the threats. >> that's a disgrace. that is, it would be as if we said we don't need a military. >> it's just a highly partisan bill from the same folks who spent two years hyping up a conspiracy theory about president trump and russia. >> reporter: after the break, democrats will continue their push to gecopies of president trump's tax returns.

and then there's impeachments, democrats are leaving with no consensus on whether to deal with it now or whether to deal with it later. marcus? laura? >> all right, thank you, tracie potts, from washington. a scandal still unfolding in contra costa county. happening today, assessor gus kramer is expected to be arraigned. he is accused of making unwanted sexual remarks and racially disparaging comments dating back to 2013. kramer says three separate investigations exonerated him. last week his lawyer said he plans to file a motion asking for the district attorney to bow out of the case. he's not saying why. if that happens, the state attorney general could take over the case. a livermore couple who argued roundup weed killer gave them cancer is now getting a lower award for their recent legal victory. in may, an oakland jury awarded $2 billion to alva and alberta pilliard. they determined it caused their

nonhodgkins lymphoma. a judge upheld the verdict but now has reduced the damages to $87 million. she says the original judgment was higher than limits set by the supreme court. this is the latest in the series of reduced awards tied to roundup cases. bayer the owner of monsanto is planning to appeal all of them. >> 6:07. the new effort to keep b.a.r.t. elevators clean is expanding. the transit agency's board voted to expand the program to embarcadero and montgomery stations. attendants from a nonprofit organization actually stand inside elevators to greet passengers. b.a.r.t. said it helped reduce riders relieving themselves at powell and civic center stations since the program started in april. the decision comes with the same meeting b.a.r.t. named robert powell as their new general manager. this morning a small pet trying to break into show business on the peninsula.

throughout the morning, a little bit of the peeks of sunshine poking out own upper 60s. today is the best day to get to the gilroy garlic festival before we hit those triple-digits tomorrow. we'll start out this morning at about 70 degrees at 10:00, as the festival really starts to kick off and going into the afternoon, some low 90s, so not too bad. won't feel that bad in the shade. if you're just getting out the door, you want to head to work this morning, santa clara will see temperatures in the low 60s and up to about 82 at 1:00 today. vianey tracking the roads this morning and it seems so friday-light. >> it is. i hope the ac works in your car. if not, grab the old school fan and keep it in the car, keep it moving. we've got no big accidents to report but i have noticed building traffic along westbound 80, headed toward the bay bridge. you are looking at about 17 minutes. the metering lights are on, westbound 92 toward the san mateo bridge only 13 minutes. i'll have a closer look at how the mass transit is doing about any delays coming up throughout

good friday morning. coming up on 6:1. as we check out our live view in palo alto, a few clouds and cool, nice refreshing air to start out this friday morning, as we go throughout the day, it will start to warm up, and this will be nothing compared to what's headed our way for the weekend and some of the inland valleys. we'll look at all of the numbers and the full forecast in less than five minutes. and a live look in oakland. you can see we're starting to notice some slowing along southbound 808. eastbound lanes showing some slowing and the morning commute is building. how your drive times and your mass transit is doing, coming up. and a very good morning, very happy friday to you as well. tariffs, trade war a big part of the slowing gdp. twitter reported profits moments ago said the number of daily

user s was way up. shares in tesla plunged both on the news i told you about yesterday before the bell and sudden departure of another important executive. livongo health, the mountain view company traded shares for the first time after its ipo. another successful market debut for a silicon valley company. livongo works with apple watch to monitor your health, high blood pressure, diabetes. that kind of things. they wore their lucky socks when they went to the nasdaq to ring the opening bell. the socks with the company logo on him. it worked. shares rose 36%. really surprising news out of detroit, and sacramento this morning, california made a secret deal that we're just now learning about with car companies that goes around donald trump. the white house likely furious. trump wanted to lower fuel efficiency standards set by president obama, but california said no, we would keep our state standards high. a number of other states joined

us in refusing. that would have forced car companies to make two different kinds of cars, basically one for red states and one for blue states. but the "new york times" reports california had secret meetings with the big four car companies and said california will lower its fuel efficiency standards a little bit and car companies agreed to keep them higher than what donald trump wanted. bottom line is, sacramento pulled a fast one on washington. also we get better cars. and laura and marcus, i just word that softbank raised another fund to spend on high-tech companies. $108 billion. softbank is not a household word, neither it its leader mashiosi-san, but entrepreneurs in silicon valley do because he's a money man. >> he needs a top hat. >> he brings in money by the dump truck into silicon valley.

many companies are funded by this money and he gives way more than they were asking for. this is good and bad, but another $108 billion in the hopper. >> wow. >> all right. >> thanks, scott. tell me what you think about this. the trick-or-treaters that come no matter what the day, halloween falls on, trending this morning, kids of all ages, parents as well probably can relate to this, what's worse than waking up early for school or work the morning after halloween? kind of screams for saturday holiday. one group wants to do exactly that, making halloween the last saturday of october instead of traditional october last, october 31st. leaders say their change.org petition is now nearing its goal of 75,000 signatures at which point they'll send it to the white house. supporters say halloween may even become a safer tradition and everybody will know and it is tough, i have to admit on this shift, we get up so early

in the morning, taking the kids out and everybody's late. the sugar highs. >> was there ever a reason why it had to be on the 31st or was that a random day? >> st. howling day. >> actually it is and followed by all saints day november 1st. >> i wonder if they'll change all the holidays, you going to change all of the holidays? let's put them owl all on the weekend. >> where do i sign? >> let's have an extended weekend. it will be a hot one. >> it will be a hot weekend. we're trying to find cool things to do as you get ready to head out the door friday morning, we're enjoying cool air now. let me show you why the coast won't be heating up this weekend. there you see it, there is that fog over san francisco right now. the golden gate bridge we'll see that linger throughout much of the day. as we get a look at our hour by hour forecast, it does show that cloud cover that is moving through the coastline and going to keep those temperatures there in the 60s and low 70s while the inland valleys will be warming

up. as you make plans maybe you want to go out and be active this morning, if you have to work outside or if you want to go for a run in pleasanton, it's best to get it done early as well as much of the tri-valley and the inland east bay. we start out with some low 60s. at 10:00 we're at 74 degrees and after that, you'll probably just want to take it easy with some mid 80s going into the early afternoon. our south bay high temperature in east san jose headed up to 92 degrees, and in milpitas a high of 89 degrees. even though it's going to be hot today, it's going to be even hotter tomorrow. that's going to be the big story, the hot weather for the weekend as concord tops out at 93 degrees. hayward will reach up to 80 degrees, and it stays cool in half moon bay, in fact i don't think we'll see much clearing for this afternoon. palo alto sees highs in the low 80s and some upper 60s in san francisco. so we will have an excessive heat watch in effect, this is where areas will reach from 95 to 105 degrees. we've also had a surge in

monsoonal moisture that sparked a couple of lightning strikes and quite a bit of rain just across parts of the sierra. so this weekend, drink lots of water, take breaks and if you can, keep a cool towel on your neck. the car inside a vehicle can be anywhere from 30 to 50 degrees hotter, so never leave kids or pets inside the car. look at how hot it's going to be, up to 102 degrees inland and 101 degrees for sunday, and then we'll
