well, welcome to wednesday morning. this is yul july 31st. a live picture of the bay bridge toll plaza. friends are up with us as well. vianey is in nor mike, welcome to the team. >> hopefully it's not too busy. it's only 4:30. >> good morning, i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. let's look at what we can expect with the weather today. yesterday was nice. hoping for at least a repeat. >> it will be a repeat today. just a little bit warmer in some of the inland east bay valleys but as we take a live look in fremont starting out with mostly clear skies, temperatures nice and cool.

we'll drop down to 56 degrees and then start to warm up going throughout the day. in the south bay, our high temperatures headed into the upper 70s in downtown san jose. i'll talk more about that and the rest of the forecast. vianey has a look at our morning commute. >> as i mentioned it's only 4:30. there were a couple of overnight fender benders but not affecting anything now. look at our speed sensors. we have a lot of green which means no major slow spots to report at this hour. let's take a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. now i am starting to notice some slowing. it's a little too early for those metering lights to be on, so i'll check out the chp report and see what's going on. they may just have some delays or some maybe closed lanes as well. let me check out what that's about. for now we have slowing at the bay bridge toll plaza. i'll let you know what that's about in a bit. two days after the horrific shooting at the gilroy garlic festival the community is coming together. last night the two youngest victims of the gilroy shooting

were remembered, stephen romero and keyla salah zha. >> cheryl hurd has more. >> we think it's important that the community knows who keyla is and how important she is for us. >> keyla's family standing together in front of her old school showing support for one another at a time when they are overwhelmed with grief. her mother expressing herself through a statement, read by her sister. >> keyla was a beautiful children that really cared for other people and she cared about animals and she was our motivation. >> reporter: their motivation gunned down by a man at the gilroy garlic festival on sunday. >> she was a smart, beautiful, vibrant young woman. >> reporter: who just graduated from eighth in power academy. she was loved by everyone who knew her. >> she was described as sunshine, somebody who was always smiling, making jokes and

quizzing them with her questions. >> as the salazar family tries to cope with their grief, the romero family was doing the same at a memorial across town at a private ceremony to honor 6-year-old stephen, who was also gunned down by gunfire. no one had the proper words to explain their sorrow. >> and i'm worried about my kids. >> i couldn't stay at home. i had to come out. this was again, like it was too close to home. it's too close to home. >> reporter: cheryl hurd, "today in the bay." investigators are looking into the possibility the victims in the garlic tragedy may have been struck by officers or not struck by officer's gunfire. santa clara county district attorney -- >> it's certainly something we have been looking at in terms of what bullets killed the individuals other than the shooter. >> claire county district attorney jeff rosen who has launched that investigation.

cement behind a building where no one could see. the 911 call came in a report of a woman and two newborns behind a strip mall. police officers arrived to find the twins but no sign of the mother. >> the officer got here, he recognized both infants appeared to be in distress. he started life-saving efforts with one of the infants and turned care over to our fire department and that infant was subsequently transported to a local hospital. >> reporter: the other infant was already dead. a short time later reports of a woman in bad shape not far away lying on a sidewalk. >> it is apparent based off her condition she did recently give birth and that female has been taken over to the hospital to be checked on. >> reporter: the mother was no stranger to the strip mall. the owner of the pizza parlor here had heard about her from his employees. >> they had seen her the last few weeks. she come in to use the restroom, she was sitting out here and they noticed she was pregnant. >> reporter: some people say she appeared homeless and at times possibly to be dealing with

mental issues. police will allow the mother to get proper medical care before determining if she will face any charges. terry mcsweeney, "today in the bay." >> there are safe havens for children out there. a new yale university study faults san francisco's juul for not informing users about chemicals in its products. toxic chemicals not listed on its labels could cause lung damage. the research says when heated those ingredients can combust and create a dangerous by-product. juul issued a response to the study saying in part "the study failed to take into account real world conditions, including realistic human exposure" to its products. lots of bay area tennis fans probably saying the latest bay area appearance by venus williams didn't last long enough. >> unfortunately it was one and done for williams at mubadala silicon valley ohm. she won the first set of her

good morning. i'm dominic chu at cnbc global headquarters. here are your top business headlines today. wall street is set to open modestly higher this morning. stocks did fall slightly yesterday as investors await that big decision from the federal reserve bank this afternoon. the fed is expected to cut interest rates for the first time since the financial crisis. what it's aiming to do is head off any potential slowdown in the u.s. economy. now an interest rate cut could result in lower borrowing costs for consumers and businesses on all types of loans but might also mean lower rates on your savings accounts as well. shares of apple are higher after the company reported earnings that beat wall street forecasts even as sales of the iphone continue to slow down. in fact, it is the first time since 2013 that the iphone did not account for a majority of apple's overall sales, but the company has offset that weakness

with growth in just about everywhere else, growth in ipads, macs and services, which includes, by the way, the app store and apple pay as well. apple also announcing it there launch its new credit card with goldman sachs sometime in august. and comcast has rolled out a new parental control feature to help you manage your kids' wifi access. if you are an xfinity wifi user or xfi user you can set time limits for all your kids devices at once. when they reach the limits xfi will boot them and their gadgets off the network. previously that cut off everyone in the house as well. comcast is the parent company of nbc universal and marcus, laura, as a parent of a 2-year-old, she is already using the ipad. i hope i can get some of those controls on my wifi network as well. back over to you. >> dominic, i have triplets, so imagine how golden what you just told me is. >> that's a lot of wifi, a lot

one flight attendant literally crawling from the overhead bin. this was on a flight from nashville to philadelphia. the passenger reportedly later claimed the flight attendant stayed in the overhead bin for about ten minutes. southwest issued a response. the airline chalked it up to the flight attendant's whacky sense of humor but southwest also says it's not your normal procedure and safety is always a top priority. >> it's fun to joke. >> but it's southwest. you know when you land somewhere and they're like, welcome to denver. you're like wait a minute, i'm in san francisco. she probably was just up there like making a passenger look at them and go, hey. >> exactly. let's get started this morning, as we get ready to head out the door, we have some cool weather for you starting out with some mid-50s in livermore, 60 in palo alto and in oakland and 58 in napa. if you're going to be outside headed to the park, enjoying this beautiful day around lafayette, it's going to be at

about 57 degrees at 7:00, just a few clouds this start, and then 67 degrees overall a pleasant day. it's going to be mild at noontime if you're headed out there for lunch and just want to spend some extra time out there just taking in some fresh air and some sunshine. it will be 75 degrees, with some low 80s during the early part of the day. as we check out our high temperature, cupertino headed up to 79 degrees, and then some low 80s for morgan hill today. for the east bay we're up to 84 degrees so the temperatures very much like yesterday. maybe just a couple of degrees warmer in spots like antioch and concord. we're up to 82 today in martinez. for the peninsula, we'll see a high of 77 in redwood city today and also still really nice in san francisco, still pretty windy though, and for the north bay expect santa rosa to reach up to 81 degrees. we're also up to 81 in napa. a lot of pollen still and it's mostly tree pollen. everything else is low, and so

it's pretty good though as you get ready to head out and maybe spend some extra time in the comfortable weather. i wanted to show you what's happening out there in the pacific. we have two storms now, erick is a category 4 behind but behind that is flossie a category 1 hurricane. erick looks to stay south of hawaii but will turn up waves. flossie is expected to strengthen and move a little bit closer to the big island so that may be an issue for monday into tuesday. we'll continue to monitor that. as we look at our forecast here for the inland areas, looking at some low to mid 80s through the end of the week, and then some low 90s for the weekend. just a slight increase in temperatures, but not heating up too much, and for san francisco, we're staying in the 60s, that is the fog and the clouds will linger through the next several days. vianey tracking the roads and it seems to be flowing well so far. >> it's flowing nicely, moving along. we've got our speed sensors

showing a little bit of slowing down in the south bay along 101 but aside from that, we had a couple of accidents overnight that have already cleared out. but i want to show you this, because we're making a couple of phone calls to see if maybe there's some construction or something going on, because it's just a little too early to see this much slowing at the bay bridge toll plaza but the chp reports aren't showing any accidents so again, we're making some phone calls. there might just be some construction that's starting to cause some delays but we'll keep a close eye on that for you. let's look at the bridge drive times. westbound 80 to the bay bridge nine minutes and, 92 toward the san mateo bridge 11 minutes. a quick check of your tri-valley drive times we're starting to see slowing from westbound 84 from vallecitos road to 680. you're looking at about ten minutes so that is going to start to get heavier as we inch closer to the 5:00 a.m. hour. tri-valley commuters time to head out the door. back to you. >> thank you, vianey.

new, a dramatic effort by passengers on a b.a.r.t. train to help another passenger in danger. it unfolded before midnight last night at the west oakland b.a.r.t. station. barth police say a man pulled a knife on another passenger on an antioch bound train. other passengers stepped in. one person pepper sprayed at tacker, enough to stop him. police later arrested the suspect. in contra costa county, a new mental health facility is reportedly getting the green light to move forward. the "east bay times" says the contra costa supervisors approved a plan to replace an elderly care facility on tice valley boulevard in unincorporated walnut creek. opponents are trying to block the plan, arguing the new mental health facility would threaten safety and lower property values. as soon as today, jury deliberations may begin in the ghost ship warehouse fire trial. the defense is wrapping up its closing arguments yesterday. attorneys accuse prosecutors are using the defendants as scapegoats for parties that brought dozens of people to the warehouse on the night of the

fire. derek almena's attorney urged a jury is not allow their emotions to get in the way of the decision. prosecutors today will give their final rebuttal at which time deliberations will begin. 4:51 right now. new this morning in san diego, the parents of a toddler who died after getting e. coli at the county fair are filing a claim against the fair operator. 2-year-old jebediah cabazuela died last month. two other families who contracted the disease are part of the claim. it says there were no warning at the fair's petting zoo about the possible presence of e. coli. the claim also alleges handwashing stations were not accessible to kids. 11 confirmed or probable cases of e. coli have been linked to the san diego county fair's petting zoo. 4:51 and if president trump wants to be on california's primary ballot in march, he'll have to show his tax forms. governor newsom signed that requirement into law taking effect immediately.
