good morning to you on this thursday, august 1st. take a look out at san mateo bridge. let's check the forecast for today. foggy in some parts? >> yeah, foggy along the coast and cooler temperatures for the inland valleys today. we are getting ready for another nice one and as we take a look outside in palo alto, as you get ready to head out the door we have upper 50s. south bay high temperatures in the lower 80s this afternoon.

whatever overnight crashes happened, the sensors are green. it could be the overnight construction that tends to happen while most folks are sleeping. along 101 in san jose, plenty of headlights but again so far no accidents to report. >> yeah, breaking news to tell you about this morning. tense moments overnight in san francisco's financial district as dozens of people clash with police. >> is there still police presence there? >> reporter: yeah, you can see the police behind my right shoulder, but they did break up

the i.c.e. protests. we still have police here. i want to show you video from when the protest was taking place and police were clearing the scene. you can see the police clearing out the demonstrators on sampson street. this has been going on since july 30th. the protests were regarding the situation at the border, and you can see some protesters in the area. we'll have more in the next hour. >> we'll check back with you throughout the morning, pete. police in antioch are

investigating a police shooting. this is in our news room, and it happened near 18th and kau sraeu yo road. the man that died is in his 20s. right now it's not clear what led to the shooting, and we did checking overnight and this is antioch's sixth homicide, and that's five more than last year. and then a large candlelight vigil planned for downtown gilroy today. last night there was a prayer service. earlier in the day we spoke with two teenage sisters in line buying the now popular gilroy strong t-shirts, and -- >> he said her, you are going to be okay. you are going to be okay -- sorry. and then he was like, we have to

help her, and everybody was just running. >> outside last night's prayer service, some wrote cards for the victims of the mass shooting. happening today there will be added security measures in place when the santa clara county fair begins. yesterday the santa clara county sheriff's office reassured everybody safety will be a top priority. added security measures are in place, and there are two bay area do area county fairs opening up today. 4:34. jury deliberations continue in the ghost ship trial.

good morning. here are today's top business headlines. the federal reserve cut the interest rate in more than a decade, and the markets have been pricing in up to three cuts this year. and the federal trade commission is advising consumers to

welcome back, everyone. it's thursday morning and traffic is picking up as we look outside, and looks like a lot of people heading out the door and maybe getting a jump on the weekend already. the forecast is coming up in a few moments. trending this morning, at least for the truly adventurous eater, how about grasshoppers? the owner of the place called evil pie, the restaurant says they sold out of the pizza yesterday. we should add it contains grasshoppers. >> had them imported from mexico. >> looks like they are just falling from the ceiling. >> i don't know if i want to eat

that. >> maybe for those looking to add protein into their diet. let's get ready for this thursday morning. the first day of august and starting out with our foggest, that's going to lead us into a cooler day. out the door in brentwood we have low 60s. we will stay in the low 60s until about 7:00 and then start to warm things up as we make it into 11:00. we will be at 76 degrees. we will have a nice day ahead. let's look at all our high temperatures that are going to be normal as we reach into the low 80s in east san jose, and we will see up to 85 in concord, and 82 in martinez, and 71 in oakland. for the peninsula, reaching 61

in half moon bay. redwood city topping out at 75. low 60s for san francisco. still pretty breezy and foggy throughout much of the day. the north bay, anywhere from 62 to 82, and napa reaching 81 degrees. we are kicking off the santa clara county fair today in san jose. it's going to be a nice one. we will reach into the upper 70s there, but if you are heading out, enjoy the sunshine. as we go through the weekend, we have seen cooler weather because of the storm system to the north and a lot of fog near the coast. going into the weekend there will be slight warming as high temperature starts to nudge its way closer to the bay area. that will warm it up for the inland areas, and you probably see it at the bottom of the screen. going into next week, we will come back down to our seasonable weather. it will take a little while, up until about wednesday, we will see the temperatures coming back to the lower 80s.

look how warm it will be this weekend, reaching up to 93 on saturday and then 90 on sunday. we're still going to be in the low 90s on monday in some of the hotter spots inland. san francisco staying mainly in the 60s as the fog continues to stay near that coastline. vianey, you have been tracking the roads and looks like so far it's a great commute. very great commute, quiet, and no accidents. fender-benders overnight cleared up. green sensors mean no big slow spots. let's get to drive times, 580 towards the richmond bridge, eight minutes, and a quick check of the peninsula drive times as well, southbound 101 from van ness avenue, just a short drive.

a shooting happened about 10:30 last night in the parking lot in the outer mission and mission cesar chavez. one person said he just got off the bus when he heard what he thought were firecrackers. >> they need to stop having guns in the city because people are getting hurt and hurt and are losing their lives. >> investigators are asking anybody who may have seen something or has video that could help to call sfpd. a navy fighter crash injured a tourist on the ground close to where the plane went down in death valley park. the pilot so far has not been found even though rescuers went late into the night searching. last night they were not giving up hope.

>> we are looking for an aviator out there, hoping for the best. i am always optimisic, but we are currently running the procedures right now. >> the people on the ground were treated at the scene. the crash happened at a routine training mission but now still no known cause. and offering new clues into a possible shooting at a synagogue in southern california. the suspect has since pleaded not guilty, and documents indicate he may have been inspired by the mosque massacre in new zealand that happened weeks before.

it's 4:50 right now. a vandal attack in the east bay has convinced one family they are victims of a hate crime, and what is in disputable is somebody spray-painted the n-word on threw homes, and rocks were thrown at two of the homes. when they heard the broken glass she ran outside and saw the spray paint on the trailer. >> we looked and saw the vulgar word on the trailer and something that appears to be something like a swastika, it's planned and calculated, and it's a target of black neighbors. >> some neighbors believe a personal dispute may be behind what happened. the contra costa county sheriff's office released a statement that at this point

they are not calling it a hate crime but it's vandalism. and at one point this driver was going more than 130 miles per hour yesterday in orange county, and that car eventually crashed into other cars, and a man exited the vehicle and surrendered, and a woman took off running jumping a fence and going into a home and officers arrested her a short time later. another fight over a school name, and the reason why the district wants to rename cesar chavez academy, and how you can chime in today. puerto rico looking to choose a new leader. outgoing governor says tomorrow he's leaving and this week made a controversial choice for his replacement. if nothing else the appointment will set up a battle today with the leaders who are not sold on

officers had earlier responded to a holmberg law recall where a witness provided a description of the thieves and their car. officers located the car later and pulled it over and found items from three other recent holmbe holmbe home burglaries. yesterday, scooter was traded ahead of the deadline. the giants won with three home runs in the fifth inning by a score of 5-1. and the giants held on to madison bumgarner rather than trade him at the deadline. >> and the a's loss to the brewers 4-2. the a's required a pitcher from the reds in exchange for a minor leaguer. look at that thursday forecast coming up. >> looks good again today.
