8:01 pm
big plays as we had dick ebersoll in the booth. the broncos have it at the 38 yard line. let's start with a one-yard run here by david williams. >> cris: here we go. jones here out of ohio state, 8 1/2 sacks a season ago for the buckeyes. plays exactly like this. pass rushing presence here inside that they really hope they can find this season. when von miller and bradley chubb on the outside. if they get that pressure inside you will see big plays from these defensive backs down the field. >> al: a couple of defensive stops for jones. second down and nine. throws high but it is hauled in
8:02 pm
for a short gain. played his college ball with at one-time. >> cris: we will get back to dremont jones. out of cleveland. he knows. he could be their malik jackson, the guy that gives the interior rush and could really make a difference for the team. >> al: a little over four minutes here left in regulation. here is a sack back at the 39 yard line. jermaine grace takes him down there and it will be fourth down. >> cris: well, it is so difficult, right, when you are down to this part of the game. this is one of my favorite parts of the whole football season. you have people out there like grace who are playing their guts out. you know this is their one opportunity to impress.
8:03 pm
as the preseason goes along they get to play less and less and less. you see some of the greatest efforts that you see all season long at this point in the game. >> al: that took them out of field goal range. fourth and ten. they will go for it. rypien hangs in there, fires, tipped and incomplete. but a flag is down. what else is new? >> pass experience number 32, defense. automatic first down at the spot of the foul. >> al: indeed it is with 3:10 left. >> cris: go to work, baby. >> this will be up to coach quinn to decide is it clear and obvious that his defender does not significantly hinder the receiver. from the shots that i have seen i do not see clear and obvious video evidence to prove that.
8:04 pm
this last shot he has got an arm on the shoulder. probably would not have been reversed. does not look like he will challenge. >> al: he doesn't. the first down. gives the ball off to muhammad. a replay in 1986. it was to correct the egregiously incorrect calls. >> pass interference is the most highly subjective calls in football. on the field you are looking at real time with the naked eye. now you are going to judge it with slow motion hd replay and it will make it a more technical standard down the road. >> al: no doubt. second down and eight from the 22 yard line. flips it out here to muhammad. he breaks free and takes it for a first down to the 11 yard line.
8:05 pm
>> cris: dan quinn has to be going crazy over that call. we used to call that really good defense. they did. you know, everybody was allowed to battle on the football field. >> he needs a comfort level that he is going to win it. >> cris: i am not saying he should have challenged that or whatever. >> al: hey, it's preseason. >> i don't think it is a foul. leave it at that. >> al: meanwhile, two-minute warning. we can tell you five weeks from tonight we will be in soldier field where all of these calls will matter. packers and the bears to open up the 100th season of the national football league. there is the display they had made for us. very nice there in canton. the hall of fame. five weeks from tonight. on we go. >> cris: you know, that is really like the perfect game for the 100th year kickoff game for the season.
8:06 pm
i am really looking forward to it. >> al: the first sunday night game on sunday night that week will be pittsburgh at the world champion patriots. >> cris: that is a perfect game too. >> al: looking ahead to week two, we have the philadelphia eagles going down to atlanta to play these falcons. >> cris: i will tell you, these falcons are going to be young and new players on that offensive line. and they are going to open up against minnesota's pass rushers. they come back to philadelphia's pass rushers. >> al: first down from the 111 yard line. 11 yard line. rypien is 3 out of 7 for 20 yards. throws it to the end zone and broken up. broken up. benson the intended receiver. second down and ten. >> cris: well, i feel fairly
8:07 pm
safe in saying -- >> al: yes. >> cris: that if you have a kidney stone that is still in there you are probably going for it on any fourth downs. i think we are in four-down territory here at the end of the hall of fame game. maybe i am wrong. >> al: i think you are right. i hope you are right. second and ten from the 11. to the outside. devontae jackson will be rushed out of bounds by jermaine grace. that will make it third down. >> cris: well, we have seen jermaine grace sort of all over the field here. he has some of that quickness and speed on the defensive side that they just love. i am not going to compare him to deion jones, one of the great cover three guys, but he is that sort of style of player. >> al: first-year player.
8:08 pm
played his college ball at miami. third down and ten. 1:45 remaining in the fourth quarter. >> cris: if they throw incomplete you will probably have to kick the field goal here. they could make a defensive stand, get the ball back and win the game. >> al: i guess. third and ten. pass over the middle is caught and taken to the 5 yard line by muhammad. now you have a fourth down and four. >> cris: yeah. now you go for it. >> al: we talked about dick e ebersoll and the rozelle award.

8:10 pm
the ruling on the field, the ball was caught at the half yard line which would have been enough for a first down. >> walt anderson says give me that negative back. >> cris: here we go. >> cris: in the on the mix again. it was hard to see whether he was grabbing. the officials behind had the angle. >> al: it is fourth and 14 now. you can get a first down without getting a touchdown. rypien. to the end zone again and it is going to be deflected and caught for the touchdown. juwann winfree, sixth round rookie.
8:11 pm
played his college ball at colorado on a deflected pass comes down with it. gives them the lead with 1:26 to play. >> cris: spectacular play by winfree to go up and stay focused on the ball. the key to it is that he was able to stay on his feet while he was battling for the football and the first guy down on the ground and settled and finds the football. there it was. that was the difference. winfree had so many injuries in college, he went all the way back to the sixth round. they think he could really be a special player, pretty good way to start. >> al: makes the catch. gets the toes down. extra point is good. and denver leads 14-10. brett rypien, the rookie out of boise state to the rookie out of colorado for the store. >> cris: give rypien some credit.
8:12 pm
he understood in that situation you need to give your guy a chance. get it up high and that is a heads up football play. you have to love it. i mean for winfree, who knows what his moment could be. rypien, who knows what his future moments will be. they will remember what they hope is the game-winner for a long time. >> al: flacco on the sideline. enjoying the moment for the rookie. then you have kevin hogan. we saw him. drew lock. obviously figures to make the team as the number two draft choice. do you keep two. do you keep three. what chance does rypien have. does he wind up with someone else? >> it is sunday night. >> al: thursday night. sunday night. >> cris: i used to work on thursday nights.
